Newbie having problems opening mass storage - Epic 4G General

Hi I just got this phone last week and just can't seam to open mass storage. That option just does not appear when I plug in the usb cable on my laptop. I have usb debugged mode turned off and even updated to 2.2 .....I too would like to enjoy to import files straight thru my phone u.U

Do you have the samsung drivers installed. Get from sgs site.

I know the feeling I'm just worryd about not being able to root my phone since windows isn't detecting anything. This is my 2nd epic u.u

Turn usb debugging on and let it install and then try?

There is no fix for this, it works when it wants to on win 7 64bit. I can't get mine to work until I try every usb port on a small hub I got. I've tried offical drivers, unoffical, viper team drivers it just sucks. Only time I've had it work at go was when I braught odin and the one click to the campus and did it on a vista machine. All I can say is, reinstall the driver buy a small usb hub and plug and pray

Just spoke wit a rep they said I have to go into a store. Seams to be a hardware issue. Hopefully they give me a new one since the replacement they gave me was refurbished.

Big problem with Epic 4G! New UPDATE I/O device error.

This is when I put my phone into mass storage.
My phone is taking forever to be recognized by my Windows 7 computer, my laptop recognizes it right away, I am using my front USB ports and have tried the back one even. Also, I have installed drivers and un-installed them, I have also done everything under the sun to try and get it to sync better. But alas it takes a while for my desktop to recognize that I have put my phone into mass storage. It is really bugging me, I am also using the stock cable that came with the phone and have even installed the official drivers. But to no avail.
My windows 7 laptop recognizes it fine

Maybe its ur usb port then if ur laptop picks it up fine. U can't blame it on the phone

I am not blaming the phone at all. I am just trying to understand why this phone doesn't mount and my Hero did fine and does fine on the same port. How can I not say maybe its the phone...
Lol well maybe its the usb like I was saying. Or maybe it just doesn't like the micro usb??

Very very possible my good sir. I will keep trying different ports!
EDIIITTT AND UPDATE!
I AM GETTING AN I/O device error.
Try reformatting the card... Use a card reader to pull your data off first..
You could also have a defect on your device, but I'd test it in a different computer before concluding its the phone..

It is definatetly not a device defect for I have a samsung laptop with Windows 7 home premium 64 bit and it recognizes right away. Also, I find that if I enable mass storage the computer reads it (my desktop) but it just takes a while to. I will jsut have to be patient I guess. lol
I'm having the same problem...I've tried both sets of drivers.

Very few defects exist across ALL the epic phones.. I was suggesting it could be a defect with that specific phone, but that conclusion should only be reached after further testing..
I had trouble with my Win 7 64bit laptop when I first tried to connect it. I switched to the usb port on the other side of the lappie and it recognized instantly. There seems to be a bug in Win 7 and how it recognizes the Epic on certain ports. My Blackberry worked fine in all ports. I did install the 64 bit drivers and still had problems with that port.

Odin finds one vibrant but not another?

ANy idea why this might be happening>?
Let me consult my tea leaves...
Nope. Sorry, I don't see anything there.
Could you provide a little more information?
Let's assume that both phones are in Download mode.
Let's also assume that you've restarted Odin each time a separate phone is plugged into the USB cable, instead of having the same Odin process try to talk to the 2 separate phones.
Let's assume it's the same USB cable, same port, same computer, and same drivers.
All you assumed is correct and I still cannot connect the other phone to odin. It won't recognise it. It does see mine right away though

Start simple, Windows sees both phones when you plug them into the USB cable?
I do one at a time

I do the same steps i did with the first one. At no point in time are they connected at the same time

I was able to fix my bricked phone through Adb. Thanks for trying to help though.

how to install eb01modem.tar without odin...

Can't get my pc to recognize my phone. So I was wondering if there was a way to install the modem file?
Thanks for any and all help!
Nope. Either search for instructions on getting your phone to be recognized or post to the general forum to have people try to troubleshoot the issue.
Odin is the only way. Make sure you have the latest drivers, and try different USB ports. Many people have found that Odin is particular about which USB ports it likes. You could also try another PC.

I've tried every workaround that I have found. Nothing works. Pc.will not recognize my phone. And my phone never gives me the usb "triangle" in the notification bar. My wife's phone hooks up fine.

I had some trouble like that too. Use the cable that came with the phone. I had a few that would charge mine but not work for DATA transfer
Odin is very sensative with USB ports.... I had to actually go buy new USB drivers once
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Wait triangle in notification bar? Phone needs to be off with battery out, connected to computer. Then hold the down volume button to put it into download mode. No wonder odin wasn't detecting it! Good luck

Is that it or are u in download mode but Odin wont recognize as a com port?

Silly man. That is funny if that's all it was

Thread moved to General.
No, it was in download mode when I tried odin. (I'm not that slow lol)
The triangle I'm talking about is when you hook up the phone to usb to transfer files. Can't get it to recognize my phone.

I appreciate all the feed back. And I thank u all for the obvious questions, because sometimes that's all it is. And it still may be just that, but I haven't come across it as if yet. Lol

I wish my solution was obvious. Ha.
You guys may want to check out my thread I started in the general section. Hopefully we can find a solution to this.

Curious... Did Odin work for you with the old cord? Or transferring files to the sd card? I ask because ADB doesn't work for me since upgrading from Win 7 32 to 64. I can get a little bit of logcat to run sometimes and it hangs but Odin works flawlessly. Have tried several cords (that also work on an old Windows XP machine I have) with no luck. I guess I could try a new cord but that doesn't make sense to me

That's one way of fixing it. I also had the same issue, resolved first removing all the drivers for the phone, updated chipset drivers, reboot, re-installed the phone drivers, reboot then plugging in the phone.
Just in case someone else has the same issue and doesn't want to re-install windows
System was a dell latitude e6410

My phone its not pushing drivers to computer.

Does any body knows why my phone wont push drivers to my computer? It just does it ones in a blue moon. Im on Icerom deodex, i think, because it was unlock which broke the usb drivers command.. i try different roms, port, and usb cable i event reset my computer and install lg divers but it will still not work. The computer doesn't even make a connection sound, and my phone say its charging.

mine's been doing this for a month, :/
my buddy's also has this problem. He's on Malladus and I'm on GreenDevil's unofficial CM 11.
We're both on VS980
I've been using Airdroid to transfer ROMS to my phone. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid
I have several different drivers, on my Win 7 laptop and Win 8 desktop and nothing has worked. I've tried different cables too. it's also not recognized in ADB at all ever.
I would LOOVE an answer to this. I have no idea what is happening. It's baffling.
OK so I think not sure(something got burn cause I left my phone charging in recovery mode and I felt to sleep and when I woke up in was burning hot?) So I'm wondering if that was the problem ? I'm freaking out cause I'm paying for insurance and I don't wanna brick my phone and not fix it. At least lg tool was able to reset the root counter so I can return it for a new one but now I can't! Now what ?
