No Hands On Reviews? - Xoom General

Outside of the Wirefly unboxing video, I'm surprised that that none of the tech blogs (i.e. Phandroid, Gizmodo, Engadget, etc..) have been sent units for review prior to launch. I'm curious if this to avoid any potentially negative reviews?

I can't help but wonder if this is due to the fact that development is really coming down to the wire. It looks like the hardware has been done for a while, but both Honeycomb and Flash seem to be coming down to the last moment, and it looks like Flash was booted. I'm guessing that review units weren't sent to reviewers earlier was because the software wasn't as finalized as everyone wanted.
The Atrix, on the other hand, not only made it to reviewers early, but it was released early as well, so I don't think that Motorola is afraid of the media.

It could be that, or it could be because Motorola is trying to get this thing out the door the INSTANT it is ready to get some initial sales in before the iPad2 is announced March 2.

You're not very smart if you think review sites haven't had the xoom for at least a week or more.
The release is tomorrow...expect the nda to expire tonight or tomorrow and reviews to pop up immediately after that.

I agree and since the full Android 3.0 SDK has been released I think review units are on the way or soon on the way. I doubt the reviews have anything to do with Ipad2 coming up. I think the wifi model will probably be the answer and thats why I think that moto is holding out.

Im a part of the media base. Motorola's PR team told me that they don't have any review units yet. This has to be a first.

With regards to the last minute stuff, that's more or less what I was thinking. I suppose there is a chance we will some some reviews later this afternoon / this evening.
This whole launch really has been a debacle. Too many leaks and last minute omissions(no Flash)...just so much uncertainty and not in a positive way. Although the unlocked bootloader news is HUGE.
1 more day...1 more day.

Wouldn't you want positive reviews out a few days before to stir up buzz and jump start sales? As was mentioned above with the Atrix. Most tech stuff gets reviewed a few days before to generate positive headlines. Even Apple products get rerviewed early by Wall Mosspuppet and David Pogue...

Not exactly where you would expect initial reviews to come from, lol. You'd think it would be from one of the big boys.

And looks it like it starts...

Haven't heard of them but I'll check. I haven't spoken with Motorola Mobility since Mon, I would contact them mow but what's the point?

Apps will probably be a deciding factor for a few months. Since android has taken off, app development has boomed and with how Apple is handling in-app subscriptions, I think we will see devs heading towards other platforms.

i got to use a xoom for about 15 min today
ill give you my initial impressions
size is good, right where a tablet should be
it is heavy, enough to notice it
meaning the battery is good, it was on for almost two hours and at 77%
android 3.0 is awesome how its laid out
there is button on the left for tabs of running apps
on the right is any control / notification, much better than the shade
there is the redesigned market that is like the web version, so its much better
i use chrome on the computer, and it is now like that on 3.0 +++
and google video chat did work over 3G
it did degrade quality based on speeds but overall good
using it basically solidified me buying it tomorrow.

My GTablet get 10hrs of battery life easy. I would be shocked if the Xoom didn't as well.

I wonder how fast heavy websites render compared to the iPad? I hate how slow it takes the iPad to fully load up a regular website like say, Engadget.. atleast 20-30 seconds! I'm hoping the Xoom feels more like a netbook, with a bit more snap and rendering speed. That would make web browser so much more fun and entertaining.

yeah it's the most important thing of a tablet.
my main use would be browsing the web too...
when i used it, i had 5 tabs open and could easily jump between them quickly (and other apps)

Xoom @ COSTCO

Anyone that is looking to get the XOOM, i just find out today that COSTCO will be carrying them at the cell phone booth. They had the samsung tab for $100 less then everyone else, so might want to check it out if you plan to get one. The email said live displays would start arriving in stores the 22nd, and display banners/signs would start arriving the 24th. It did not say when the units would go on sale or for how much.
No show today
Checked with Costco this am 22nd, and the fellow told me they will not have anything until Thurs.--he knew nothing about price etc.
I doubt it'll be cheaper than verizons on contract price of 600.
even then, people said the apple ipad was to expensive at 499, but the xoom with no flash support(i know yet, but it will, maybe, its motorola who locks there stuff down tight, ask anyone with a Moto X, so who knows. lol) is going for 800?!
I will wait for an HTC tablet with Honeycomb. It will be much better IMHO

Why is that? Motorola has competed with HTC pretty well in the smartphone realm, why are you automatically assuming that HTC will be better in the tablet realm?
The HTC tablet announced at WMC is a joke compared to the Xoom IMHO.

Agreed - HTC seems to be pushing too much sense and not really promoting the android aspect of it. Yeah they update their phones relatively timely manner but they're doing with sense what apple did with unix - keeping it limited to only what they want and that's whats irritating.
I think the Flyer would have been nicer with vanilla honeycomb and not all the extra fluff of sense. Its the main reason why Moto, Samsung, AND LG are keeping with the vanilla version - they finally realize they'll get more people on board if they put out a standard tab the way apple did with the ipad
I might get the xoom after it is rooted, and bootloader unlocked, cm8 tab edition ftw
i am loving every aspect of it, but the only thing stopping me is there are no good apps and games for Android. I won't be playing games, but there will be time when i will want to and there are no good games. I can't justify myself spending $800 and not having a Complete product.

Mm I don't think I ma get it seems too expensive, probably get an ipad it has been almost a year since it came out and it really has some nice apps (brother has one ).maybe wait for ipad 2
About the flyer truth HTC adds a lot stuff to their phones that not a lot people that are into deveplomet (like people at this forum) wants but to the regular consumer it does look really nice, is impresive what they did with android os (not honeycomb ) and is easy to use, plus 7 inch sounds like a good size I didn't get the sansumg tablet cause bad experience with sansumg in the past but anyone with open mind should read this article (link below), and most it to me sounds correct, android seems to be rushing to it just like gingerbread, they said in the past the gingerbread was going to have a better UI but it looks the same to me (just some new stuff here and there ) while HTC have been more advance to what google is doing, we can just put a simple example like facebook integration with HTC is better then google integration (after you download the app) so I have to give it up to HTC for taking a risky approach, and of course google for.bringing android

You obviously haven't played with the iPad enough. Well, lucky for you, I have (I have owned one since its launch). And I'll tell you that the lack of Flash support alone is reason not to get one. That, by itself, makes this tablet inferior to any Android-based one. Trust me on this! You'd be surprised how many sites that you visit rely on Flash.
Also, another thing that really limits the iPad is the fact that apps are not flexible in its code to accurately extrapolate the pixel density, leading you to have iPhone/iPod apps and iPad (HD) apps. Not the case in Android. All apps work in all devices. Regardless of its resolution. This means that all apps in the Android Market are also available to its tablet users. Not the case with the App Store. I'd say about half of the apps on my iPad are iPhone apps that are 2x scaled over, making it painfully pixelated.

Sorry for the crappy picture but here you go.
I am just going to wait for the $600 WiFi only version. I spoke with mobile guy at Costco and he said there is a WiFi only version in their system that will come out 30 days after the 3G Xoom is released (Feb 24). I have a Costco AMEX card and will just use that as Costco has a better return policy than BB. I also have a BB card that has nothing on it and interest free for 18 months sound good as well. I guess I will cross that bridge when the WiFi only model gets released.
The twitter about the unlocked bootloader totally changed me....now I waiting for the wifi only xoom...if it's available on Costco even the better.
ipad fans: hows that usb, flash, and camera support coming along? oh, my bad, you'll never have those...

I can't be the only one

Are there really that many of you out there happy with your Xoom purchase? I am an Android fanatic through and through but I can't even get the most basic built in widgets to launch, I am already 3 minutes deep into typing this because buttons on the keyboard randomly stop registering at all. I have no idea what Honeycomb is even like as everything I try to open FC's before it even launches. I am literally in awe of how big of a piece of **** this thing is. Less than 24 hours and this thing is going back to best buy. **** my galaxy tab ran froyo flawless and I am now really bummed I sold it to get this worthless pos. I hate apple with every inch of my being but I know the ipad will function exactly how it is supposed to our of the box instead of this less than half baked **** I am attempting to use now.

I've had my Xoom since Wednesday and I'm 100% happy. I have experienced only a few FC's. The only widget I have found that doesn't work is Facebook. The only time I have experienced keyboard lag is in the browser.
Have you tried a factory reset? Maybe that will clear things up?
Do yourself a favor and return it for another one because something is wrong with the one you got. The xoom is my first android device and i'm amazed. Everything runs great. The odd time it will take a few minutes for my CNN and accuweather widget to load. Get another so you can give it a real chance. That's all I'm try'n to say

It's amazing to me that people knowingly assume the role of early adoptor, and don't expect issues. It's part of the process. You can gather from these boards what the general experience is: a pleasant work in progress that needs some apps and a little polish. If your experience is wildly different, it's either a faulty Xoom or you shouldn't buy the flagship device for a very new OS. You also might not know how to get the most out of this thing.
Nobody makes an issue out of the Facebook widget because.... it's a Facebook widget. If you that falls into "things you can't live without it until 3.01", then take the Xoom back.

the price of the device has nothing to do with whether a third party widget designed for a phone should work or not. if this is your only problem, i'd say the xoom's a winner.
To the OP, my biggest problems are FC's of the browser. It used to crash every 5 minutes. I rebooted, and for me, that solved the problem. knock on wood, but no FC of the browser in a day.

I think some people expect way to much. Everyone on this forum should know the meaning of "early adopter" (**** look at the nexus on and still that is the best phone I have ever owned). Not just that but all I hear is a bunch of *****ing and moaning over the Xoom. It either costs too much or some other whining. I addressed you in another thread but would like to use this thread since you started it to gather data. Would you kindly provide a list of the apps/widgets that FC when you try to use them? I would like to install one or two here and see if the same results happen. The next step of that process is to contact those developers and ask them if they would be willing to update their software to support the 3.0 Framework.
Agreed, I love my Xoom. It does everything I need it to do and then some. I travel frequently and just the fact that I no longer have to use my laptop while sitting in airports or coffee shops justifies my purchase. I think many people came in with expectations that were waaay too high for this class of device. Excellent battery life, email and web browsing on the go plus all of my ebooks in one place for easy access are all that I asked for. Video could be better but not as bad as ppl are making it out to be. Could Gingerbread and the Xoom both be better? Absolutely, but neither is bad by any stretch of the imagination. I think alot of people were expecting netbook power and functionality in tablet form, but you certainly don't get that with any of the other competing tablets out there so why hold the Xoom to such a high standard? I'll be keeping mine until the quad core processors are out and we see a major jump in screen resolution, but for now, I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. I think the Xoom is amazing considering it has the processing power of full size laptops out only a few short years ago...

well put sir
@theahlenius I was waiting for someone to say something along these lines. It is fair to say that for the average consumer this device is not fully ready to be put out. The norm is to only put a device on the market after it is fully ready to be released, welcome to the world of beta (the device is further than beta but still just like beta there can be quirks with a new os and lack of app support.) But I do have a few things that I want to say, 1) it was known that there was going to be things not working, ie the sdcard, flash, and that 4g was upgradeable( the lte network is still new they are still running tests on the thing with real world traffic use, give it time. you realize the crap that could go wrong releaseing a device like this on to a new network without testing its capabilities first *shivers*). Then there are people complaining about apps not working, ITS A NEW OS, The sdk that enables dev's to optimize their apps for tablets hasn't been out that long. Again it takes time, and the dev's haven't had time to make changes and fix any issues. I as well am getting the issue with the facebook app, thats about the only one, its expected though as it was built on 2.2 sdk and not 3.0 or 2.3.3. Guys really if you dont expect issues being a early release adopter return your Xoom and go get a controlled experience where Apple will hold your hand iPad.
I love my Xoom & I take it with me everywhere so I can show it off too & people are in awe of it...I know no tablet that can compare to it.too my dell streak 7 back & got this & so glad I did. This thing just works with no lags!! My ipod collects a lot of dust too now.

the xoom isn't perfect but yes we are early adopters. just like the nexus one and now the nexus s when they first came out, there are sure to be problems.
be patient, keep up to date on these forums, and the fixes and patches should roll out via google/moto or here on xda.
aside from all the problems that my xoom is having (random force closes, lag here and there), i'm enjoying this device. just rooted it and not sure if i want to take the plunge in to overclocking. don't feel as safe in doing it vs. my nexus s and dell streak since i dished out a crapload of money on it lol.

Some sad news on XOOM

So Koush on twitter just announced he is returning his xoom.
which ****en sucks, i hope he is kind enough to give us RM when the sdcard is supported.
and also reports all over the net today say the motorola will stop production on xooms in June...OF THIS YEAR
this all kinda sucks in the eyes of consumers (me + you) for software developers and even accessories. I dont know, maybe im kinda freaking but, it looks as though the motorola xoom is the nexus one of android tablets....i just hope it stays that way in the dev world.
Today seems to be a dark day for the Xoom community as well. All these bad news about the end of production, people canceling Xoom orders for the new G-Tab, now Koush leaving. But life goes on and I love my Xoom! After all, the Xoom is just the vessel for Honeycomb, isn't it? And as long as the bee lives we'll be supported by great developers
Hey Honestly,
Koush is a cool guy and he holds a ton of weight in the android community and I personally respect him and his talent, that being said I could give 2 ****s about what he or anyone else buys, never buys, or returns, and so should everyone else.
Personally the Xoom does what I need it to, and I like it. Some people will feel the same way about the Ipad 2, some people feel the same way about the galaxy tab, and some people feel the same way about Cheese. Out of all of us whos right? Every single one
If you like the Xoom be happy with it, if not return it. Simple as that. My only request is you dont post on here about how awsome your new device is because honestly you can go post that in the forum of the new device and it will not make people angry or sound like your gloating
The Xoom is the Nexus One of the Tab community, because with all of these new devices coming out who knows how much bloat ware or sense or blur or other crap they will have on them. Samsung for one does a totally steller job of providing updates for their devices (thats sarcasm) so I wouldn’t buy anything from them, but again this is my opinion, and someone may totally love their devices and want to catch them all (just like the pokemon) .
As for Motorola, what they’re doing is pretty standard. Think about it they probably have been producing units since Jan possibly even December for a early march release, a 6 month production run in a market where every week a newer shinnier toy comes out I feel is pretty standard.
Thats all just my opinion hope it makes you feel a little better tho And in the great words of Bob Marley, dont worry be happy

Honestly, I doubt this is completely true. It just says that they are stepping down production, and with good reason.
Things like this happen all the time in industry. You build 1 million devices, and then you use your manufacturing capabilities to build other things while you sell down the inventory, then you start pushing out units again once you get to another level.
All this means is that they are selling alot less than they are making, which may or may not change when the wifi version is released.

Wifi will give a price point that more people can agree with.
I'm anxiously awaiting my Wifi order to ship from Amazon.
Motorola showed us in the past that if they don't make money with their device, they quickly stop to support it.
Knowing the Xoom is running on an early version of Honeycomb, this doesn't look good at all...Makes me want to cancel my preorder actually...

I really don't care what koush buys, he bought and sold the galaxy tab 7" in the same amount of time.
If he really cared about the xda community his bootloader would be open source...if he stops making it someone will step in and make one.
Edit: I know he does open source the code, but I'm unsure if the xoom support is in there.

I just got my xoom for the GPS maps and the turn by turn directions. It works good for that so Im keeping mine!
This is really one of the major downsides of the Internet. It used to be that somebody could have a knee-jerk reaction to something, but by the time it filtered through editors, producers, etc., and into the print and publication media it had already been toned down and made far more realistic.
Nowadays, somebody misunderstands or misquotes something, and five minutes later it's believed as fact by the majority of the population, which has been conditioned to get information in tiny little chunks without any appreciation for context.

This development might put the remaing xooms in high demand. Whatever happens I bet they will sell out FAST!. I am glad I allready have 2 of them in my home!. You know what they say..... a bird in the hand is worth 2 xooms on pre order at Amazon! LOL
i FREAKING LOVE my xoom. I have an ipad that also and I never touch it. Go android!!!
android ftw yo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTUwqxHpXMY
i love my xoom too and im pretty content with it. i sold my ipad, two weeks before the announcement of the ipad 2 (robbed the dude on craigslist)
my main concern at this point, and i think its to a certain degree, paranoia, that the pushing up updates, dev community mods and improvements all together will be few and far between.
after typing that i realize thats nonsense, motorola sliced off at least 1-2months of shipping delays by delaying adobe, the sdcard and the 4g...just to be ahead of the pack.
whether that option was smart in the longrun is a question for the finance people. but as a android geek im good with that, just as long as developers (like koush) still have at it.
Thank god Moto priced the Xoom so high that I(and other sane people) got the ipad 2. At least I know that Apple wont just drop their product like that less than 6 months after release.

Not Quite the Experience I Had Hoped For...

Hey guys,
I posted this in response to another forum post, but I wanted to get other people's opinions, as well:
Unfortunately, I am returning my Atrix tonight as well - day 27 of purchase. This is my first Android phone but I feel like I'm missing out on some of the best aspects of the XDA community and features of Android, in general. I like the Atrix, but not enough to keep it for two years on contract with most likely very meager updating by Motorola in the future. I also have some gripes about the hardware.
I consider this my introductory Android experience and absolutely love the OS. I love it so much, that I want to be able to experience more of it!
Since I sold my iPhone 4 (for a nice profit!), I will be using an old school Razr until something of interest comes along. The Inspire does not seem to warrant the use of my upgrade eligibility.
Also debating jumping ship altogether from AT&T. This whole HSPA thing, while not a deal breaker, certainly left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I have recently found AT&T store reps to be uninformed and fairly rude, especially on the phone. I have been a loyal customer since 2000.
I hope that the current locking trend we've seen from HTC and Motorola is not a sure sign of the future of Android. One of the main reasons I left my iPhone behind was because I enjoy tinkering with my phone a lot, and the Android OS is so well suited for it!
It seems like developer support is a key factor in ensuring the longevity of a device, far after the hardware company has moved on. I don't like to buy phones continuously off contract and I would like to ensure that my phone stays developmentally relevant for the duration off my contract.
This may not be the proper forum for this response, but I just felt the need to vent and am interested in hearing what you guys have to say. Not trying to bad-mouth the Atrix for those who like it, it's just not quite the Android experience I hoped for.
See you guys around XDA!!!
I'll second that
About the only thing the Atrix has going for it is the dual-core Tegra2. (being rant) Other than that, it's a piece of junk compared to cheaper phones, and what software even uses the dual-core feature? Faster browsing my a**! My iPhone 3gs had smoother and faster browsing! The screen sucks--yeah, it's got qHD, but with zig-zagged subpixels and a crappy response time, not to mention the darkest it gets is too bright and the brightest it gets is too dark. Bugs everywhere, if I leave the phone on for a day I stop getting text messages or data. I've never been able to get a google voice voicemail to play on my phone. I can't decline an update, I've been keeping the WiFi off for the last few days just to avoid it. I agree totally that Android is a nice OS, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for Motorola to give me something better than 2.2. (end rant)

How dare you make me defend my statements! ;-) So, regarding the browsing, I'm sure you've noticed that when you scroll with several images on the page the images lag begind the text. As far as loading is concerned, it's hard for me to say that it's not my network conditions, but my 3gs definitely seemed faster. After a little bit of research, I've found that other people complained of this too, but apparently you can change flash to "on-demand" to make general browsing lag-free (haven't confirmed this personally)
As far as the zig-zagged subpixels are concerned, it's a well known fact that Motorola used a pentile pixel matrix to cut costs. It's harder to tell with black on white, but look at any blue hyperlink on a white background, especially when zoomed out (image originally referenced from here).
The display response time has been noticed by others. I couldn't find any official specs to confirm this, but if I'm right that it's a problem then the lack of published response time specs wouldn't be surprising.
Data dropping out is also a well known issue. There's also a post on Motorola's support forum.
The brightness issue is subjective, but I've read a few places that the screen doesn't do to well in daylight. I'm not going to bother referencing this or my google voice problem, their just straws on the camel's back.
Finally, I'm not going to use some rumor that 2.3 is coming soon (how soon?) to push me past my 30-day return limit. Too arbitrary.
So, maybe you don't agree with everything I say, but I hope I just made it really hard for you to say you don't agree with anything I say while keeping a straight face

I am actually a little unclear with what issues you have with the phone, most of this post just seems like you talking about liking the OS but not liking the AT&T service, HTC and motorola. You said very little about the phone itself.
to me it sounds like the best thing you should do is indeed jump ship from AT&T and go to verizon or something. As far as the "locking trend" from motorola and HTC.. i am assuming you are talking about the restrictions on sideloading and such. I may be wrong but i feel like this is an AT&T issue not motorola. Other providers that have HTC and Motorola dont seem to have as much issue (please correct me if i am wrong, i do not have too much experience with other providers) So dont worry this is not a sign of the future of android.
Sorry to hear you are not keeping the atrix, i have not had mine as long as you have but i love mine so far. Thanks for the input tho
I wasnt trying to write a post about my specific gripes with the Atrix, moreso I was trying to explain what I feel like I may be missing out on, with regards to Android.

I gotcha. Didn't mean to change the mood of your thread, just felt like ranting since I wish I could tell myself to keep the Atrix. I'm going to return my Atrix and hold out for six months at least to see what else comes out. I'm hoping the Galaxy S II will hit AT&T, but I am a bit jealous of my friend who gets 5mb+ on his Verizon iPhone4.

I think threads like this should be moderated and closed.
To complain about little things like a bit of browser lag, etc - pretty much anything not related to the Atrix itself, is like WTF? Take it up with your carrier, don't blame the handset.
Who really cares if you want to take your Atrix back. Just do it, no need to tell the world about it..
For the record, I've had my Bell Canada Atrix now for a week, and I can't fault it. The last 3 phones I've owned have been HTC Desire HD, iPhone 4 and Nexus S - and other than the Nexus S's gorgeous SAMOLED screen, the Atrix kicks all of others hands down.

Im thinking if AT&T gets the Galaxy S II, i might have to switch just cuz the Super AMOLED is AMAZING.

To Xoom or not to Xoom

Hi guys my wife just got me a Wifi Xoom from Costco for my birthday. I want to see how everybody feels about their Xoom and if I should return it and wait for a newer tablet. I already have a rooted Evo 4g so I don't need the 3g version of the Xoom.
I'd great appreciate some feedback.
Thanks

I've had my Xoom for a little over a week and think it's the best thing I've ever owned. My iPad doesn't even compare and ended up giving it to my kids. Love the form factor, great screen and Honeycomb rocks. I highly recommend keeping it if you like Android.
On the other hand, the iPad is much more "dummy proof" and much better for someone not very technical.

I think the question is, what are you planning to use the tablet for? The Xoom still has some features that are a little better than some tablets, and is also missing features compared to some others. Also if cost is a concern, you are almost guaranteed to be better off in 3-6 months since the newer series will be out by then and you'll see discounted clearance prices.
SO, tell us what you think you're going to do, and how comfortable you are in waiting, and I think we can better answer your question.

Ill mostly use it for reading and surfing the net. Also ill be doing the usually nerdy stuff by trying out new ROMs and such.
I wasn't considering an iPad, I was more curious about if the performance isn't up to par, and if I should wait for a better honeycomb tablet.

If you don't like the question dude then don't read it. The subject made it pretty obvious what the question was.
Back to the question: I've had the Xoom since Feb 24 and like it a lot. I use it primarily for web browsing, news reading (RSS), email and FB, and the occasional game. I had an iPad for 8 months and was sick of the iOS limitations so happily gave it up.
The only thing I don't like about the Xoom is the rear facing speakers. When watching a video on the web or doing a video chat, to hear the sound good I either have to really crank the volume up, or cup the speakers to get the sound to come forward.
Thanks for the feedback. I've been playing with it all morning. I'm still trying figure out the best way to type on it though. Browsing isn't as smooth as I would like and it is a little heavier than I would like. My kindle spoiled me there. Everything else seems work pretty well. Email, tapatalk, google reader work well on the tablet.
Still trying to find useful 'tablet' apps though.

Right now its not a great deal having a xoom. For me its been kind of a dissapointment the apps support. Not even google have updated theyre own apps! they work but are not for tablet and low awful. The apps from big company names like facebook, twitter, etc havent even bother to upgrade to honeycomb. Maybe in 5 month we will find more than 20 apps for tablet (if you are from other country other than us. you cant install many honeycomb apps), but by that time xoom will be obsolete and there will be xoom 2 or whatever

Most of all - Allow your Wife to feel good about her decision then root it and enjoy things yet to come.

You do realize that the Honeycomb/tablet interface 3.0 is a mere 9 weeks old? Apple's IOS for tablets had already been out for roughly 55 weeks and had the the advantage of using existing iphone apps from June of 2007?
I believe Android didn't come around until November of 2009.
It took Apple quite some time to deliver apps and polish the software to where it is today.
It does take time and I would think Google is prepared to put up a hell of a fight.
interesting discussion guys, I am about to decide whether to buy xoom or ipad 32GB wifi.
Simple user, prefer a stable and trouble free tablet for daily use. Occasional movie, email, light gaming and some ebook reading. Wont be experimenting much. Almost decided on xoom, any last moment advise?
I love my Xoom. My only concern is the lack of apps. I think 6 months from now it won't be an issue.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
The XOOM is waiting for one or more important software updates. The XOOM was the first HC tablet and has been out the longest. I have also yet to see these other tablets advertised (as) much. Which one will get the most app / accessory support? My bet is on the XOOM regardless of which tablet ends up being technically superior later in the year. When things don't end up working as well other tablets (even though they perhaps should) as the XOOM, I'll be mostly unaffected.
The LG G-Slate has a smaller screen and lacks a SD Card Slot. The newer Samsung Galaxy Tab lacks a built-in HDMI port. The HTC Flyer may have their Sense UI Skin on it, I personally dislike manufacturer skins. The ASUS Transformer's build quality is not as good IMO but it can be had cheaper and supports mouse usage with optional dock. The Toshiba Tablet will have a full SD Card size card slot. Rea search the differences, decide what is important to you.
