[Q] CWR Daf files? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

So guys I'm using CWR and I want to try Af143's newest DHD ROM but it's not a .zip file? It's like it's all just files that you would see when you're flashing a ROM through MAGLDR. They aren't just zips you copy to SD card. How do I do it? Thanks.

There is a way to convert normal nand roms, to make them CWM-compatible.

im not sure i understand.. are you sure the .zip youre trying to flash is on the root of your sd card? youre sure the .zip youre trying to flash is not in any folder on the sd card?
I downloaded the file from xda. All I did was take the folder and drop it in my sd card, but it's like it doesn't read any zip file

not sure what recovery you use, but try to place the .zips on the root of your sdcard, not in any folder.

[Q] DAF or CWM for T-Mobile HD2

I have T-Mobile HD2 with stock microSD 16GB class2. Currently using imilka's DesireZ ROM (DAF) and mostly happy. But ...
There are many ROMs which are CWR, many are marked ZIP (not sure about difference). I did not look much into CWR, but got the idea that it requires some special partitioning. But I also read that those ROMs are better for backup. At the same time I really like DAF installation for simplicity.
I guess if CWR gives better performance or battery life or any other long-term advantage over DAF I'll have to look into CWR installation details. If not, why bother ?
So ... what are YOUR pros/cons for using DAF vs CWR vs ZIP ?

FYI, zip are the files you install using cwm.
I use cwm since it is easier to manipulate. Partition? What partition? I don't have partition on mine.

When I read CWR manual ...
For new user;
1. download one of the partition files, if you don't know which one you need, use the 250M one or check with rom developer.

Or it is just kind of config file ?

It is a config file. Just like installing windows, you can divide you drives during installation.

DAF and CWR is just different ways of flashing the rom onto your HD2, it does not effect your battery life.
Personally I am like you, I like DAF for the simplicity but since the chef of the build I am currently using is hinting to only go exclusively CWR, then I installed CWR in order to prepare for the future updates. I am currently using Cmylxgo's v1.0.7n build. There are some advantages with the backup and restore features of CWR and the quick way it can flash a zip file to load a different build onto your phone. Battery life is exactly that same either way you go. If your chef is using DAF and not wanting to go to CWR, then I wouldn't change anything you are doing. If you are very happy with the build you are using and your chef will be supporting in the future with DAF, then there really isn't much of a reason for you to change in my opinion. Others may say having CWR available helps to future-proof your phone to easily change the build and back it up if something went wrong.

Unless cwm is installed then update.zip can't be installed.

Hi,
I think Rom Manager is only for NAND,and specifically only for cLK.
Which sd ROM are you using?
I am using the Americanandroid sd version. I think so to, that's only for nand versions, but maybe there is a solution for sd versions.

There is none.

You can't use any sort of cwm for SD builds, if you want this you will need to install magldr and then install cwm partition and boot via magldr.

Need assistance on installing an Android rom on HTC HD2

Hi,
I am a complete newb to HTC and know hardly anything about installing a NAND rom on my HTC HD2.
I bought the phone recently on Ebay, it was running windows 6.5 but I wanted to change it to the latest Android rom. I just want it to be Android, run smooth and fast, be able to access android store and get latest apps, have wifi, 3GS and all the features that the phone can handle.
Basically I am stuck on the MAGDLR V1.12 main screen after following mskip's guide on flashing a HD2. I installed HARDSPL 2.08 and flashed MAGDLR 1.13.
I then followed 'langthang's' guide on installing his latest rom updated on 31 Jan by 'flashing Recovery with edit' then done a partition recovery v1.13 150MB ( this is where I think I may have chosen to little). This is where I am stuck at and do not know what to do next on installing a rom.
I know this may seem very 'newb' to many of you but I would be grateful for your guidance on just installing a good rom.
Thanks
When I go to AD Recovery it says in red ERROR: Invalid boot image header. And on startup something about kernel open failed.
i am completely confused and need help!!
install cwm recovery (latest is 5.0.x.x) again with correct partition size required by the rom. you need to edit flash.cfg and enter the correct size e.g.150 or 200 etc..
I have installed CWM 5.0.2.6 with a 200 partition size and can go to the AD recovery menu now. How do I edit the flash.cfg and actually go about putting the rom on the sd card using MAGDLR, I amconfused on that aswell do I extract the rom to my desktop or just put the rom zip file straight on the SD??
Thanks
Put rom zip without tampering with it if don't know wat to do...then get into cwm recovery ... install froM SD card n choose the zip...
Flash.cfg can be opened in notepad

Ok.
I do not get the Flash.cfg part at all, what do I edit and copy? I am using the HDToolkit4 2.01 to partition it now.
Also do I have to put the rom on the SD card to extract it from cwm recovery, not by going into USB mass storage mode??

I would suggest installing notepad++, you open the CWM folder you download and right click the flash.cfg file. Then you can edit the recovery size there.
I would suggest that you do not use MAGLDR to transfer a rom to your sdcard as there is a good chance it will corrupt, file transfer is still unstable. Just flash the correct recovery size, then boot into recovery from MAGLDR and transfer the rom to your sdcard there.
Do not extract the rom zip by the way, just place the whole zip on your sd and flash that.
What do I exactly edit?? Where is the CWM folder?? I still do not get this part at all, can someone guide me through it..
I flashed the recovery size through the HDToolKit...
Also, when putting the ROM on the SD Card, Do I have to take out the SD and put the ROM on that way with a adapter on my PC, OR can I just boot into recovery from MAGLDR and then connect my phone via USB with the SD inside and transfer it that way??
*****bump

If you look at the flash.cfg in Langthang's thread, yours should look exactly like that when opened (make sure to open flash.cfg, not flash.cfg.txt) in notepad++ or whatever notepad type thing (not MS Word) and just change yours to look the same as the example one then save it. You should only have to change the numbers. Flash the new recovery then copy the ROM as a zipped folder onto your sd card using a card reader if possible. Boot into recovery then select install zip from SD card, select your file and there you go, one working HD2 with Android

Ok I attached the recovery that I use with Team Blue Droid (credits to Dansta for porting it for us)
Open that .7z file and extract the folder to somewhere on your computer. Open the folder and inside you will see a bunch of files (one of which is the flash.cfg).
Now right click that and edit it with either notepad or notepad++ and adjust the recovery size as need for the rom of your choice. Save it and then while booting into MAGLDR connect your phohne to your PC.
Select the Daf.exe file and let it run, once completed you will have successfully flashed your recovery. Just boot into recovery from MAGLDR and then select mount usb (I believe that is the option). Then you can mount your sdcard and copy the rom that way. Once done just flash the rom with the install zip from sdcard option.
Post if you have more questions
HI,
First I've written a guide to magldr and clk, so if you want a little extra info it may help.
Second, I would recommend the program called "HD2 Toolkit" Their is a link to it also in my guide.
You need to consider updating to magldr 1.13 if you are going to use magldr, things will just work better with the latest version. Also unless you have a very good idea of what you're doing, the new clk1.5 rc1 is probably your best bet, it makes everything so much simpler.
But back to your magldr problem and the hd2 toolkit program, this program is an automatic flasher for the hd2, magldr clk and cwm.
OK thanks. What Roms do u reckon I download?? I want all the general features and Appstore..

You know it really depends on your preference as there is a wide range. There are Sense roms (2.1-3.5) AOSP roms, CM7 roms, MIUI roms, and CM9/ICS roms. The choice is really up to you
OK thanks alot for the help guys, learnt alot. Managed to sort it all out and installed this Rom on it, everything looks to be working fine.
Thank You!

Yes you Can.
in Magldr go to #8 AD recovery & if you have CWM you ca install Android in NAND, after that just copy an SD ROM to you SD & each time you boot you can direct which one to boot from. try the link below it might help

In his sig. Essentially, you flash NAND Android, then copy over the SD build to your SD card (with MAGLDR files if they're not included in the ROM). Then in MAGLDR go to services>boot settings>AD SD Dir and select the folder with your SD ROM in it. Then just boot AD SD and violá
