Off subject but cancer free - EVO 4G General

I know this is off subject but I've been a part of xda for about a year now mostly in the hero forum. Also learned how to make my first apps that are in the market now from this site. I recently got an evolution and love it.
For the past six months I have been battling testicular cancer that spread to my lungs and abdomen. I just got home from doctor a few minutes ago and am happy to say the cancer is inactive and most tumors are gone or are shrinking and body will absorb. Just had to tell someone.

PS. My name is HondaCop and I approve this message.

Congrats man, this is awesome news! My father has been battling cancer for years now so I know first hand what a toll it can take on the afflicted individual and those closest to them. It is not something I would wish upon my enemies. I hope you live out the rest of your life happy, healthy, and most of all, cancer free.
Cheers!

Good news! My mom recently just won her fight against breast cancer. Its always nice to tell someone good news!

[ATTN][UPDATE 2.20.11] Senior Member DADDIEDIESEL Lives

ATTN ALL MODERATORS... PLEASE DO NOT DELETE/LOCK/MOVE THIS THREAD. I POSTED THE ORIGINAL IN XDA'S GENERAL-OFF TOPIC THREAD SECTION. BUT I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS COVERAGE. AND BECAUSE HE IS AN EVO GUY... CAN YOU PLEASE JUST LET THIS SLIDE IF CONSIDERED OFF TOPIC? THANK YOU.
One of our senior members, DaddieDiesel is in the hospital and has sustained some very serious injuries as of last night. I received a PM from his sister, as many of you may have, that he and his daughter were on a Daddy Daughter Valentine's Day date. They were walking across the road and were hit by a car. He shielded his little girl, and she isn't hurt too bad. When he took the blow for her, he took it hard. Many broken bones, a punctured lung, and a serious blow to the head when he hit the pavement. His condition is unknown, and he is currently unconscious in the ICU.
I don't know how many of you know him, but he's my friend. He has been there for me through all of my recent sadness... miscarriage and breakup of my long term relationship... calling and texting everyday just to make me laugh so that I don't fall apart. And even though I havent known him long... I feel like I've known him forever. He's my ChiTown, and I'm his ChuckTown. He's my friend, and I'm asking that you all please keep him, his little girl, and his entire family in your thoughts. Until he wakes up... I don't know what I'm gonna do without his daily calls, texts, and retarded ass picture mails he always sends just to make me smile. I'm not normally big on prayer... but I am now. For him.
UPDATE: FURTHER AND MORE DETAILED INFO FROM FAMILY ON DADDYDIESEL'S CONDITION
Dan sustained dislocations to his right hip and shoulder. 4broken ribs. Of which punctured his lung. Shattered his knee cap. Swelling in his brain from his head hitting so hard that it busted it open. His hand is badly swollen because he held his daughters head from also hitting the concrete. But after this mornings surgery we had a better outlook. He awoke for a bit confused at first because he didnt know where he was, but after we calmed him he immiediatly asked for his daughter.
Thank you for your kind words and let everyone know that he is doing better but not out of the woods yet. Still has a ton of swelling and it is still a concern.
Thank you for the prayers and either my sister or I will let you know more information as we can.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY 2.16.11:Dan has been awake for longer periods. He still is unable to speak due to his breathing tube. When he does wake
he continues to be very confused and angry. It takes him a bit but he does realize where he is and seems to understand.
The first thing he does do is ask about his daughter by pointing to his tattoo of her. Which the doctors say is a good sign.
When we(dan's other sister and I)left this afternoon the doctors were hoping to remove his breathing tube later today.
The lingering concern is still the swelling but if you know my brother not much is gonna keep him down.
We have had great support from a couple of his rugby friends, his biker friends, and co-workers even to the fact of
taking time off work and picking my sister from the airport when she arrived.
For many years we all looked down on Dan for the things he did but we never realized how much he gave up of himself
for us. To this day all he says he did what he had to.Thank god our brother was so well organized as we were able to
get his passwords to his email and his account on the wonderful community you both belong to,and contact you and
his other friends.
It seems that you and Dan have a very special relationship and my sister and i decided to let you know a bit
about Dan. We snuck in Dan's laptop in and read to him his messages and the responses to the posting you started and
he was very moved. He also tapped your picture and put his hand to his lips. Thank you again and let everyone know that
have everyone who has prayed for our brother in our prayers as well.A Special thank you to the gentleman know as
Slayer69 as his messages were very kind. And too a very special thanks thank you for being such a beautiful person
and your wonderful support. We will let you know more as we know. thank you.
_______________
UPDATE 2.17.11:
Dan had his breathing tube removed. He cant speak all that well and ended up
losing a molar. He has to try and write alot of what he wants to say.
But still a great sign. Tomorrow the plan on moving
him hopefully out of ICU. Also plan on getting him some movement
via therapy for his knee so it doesnt atrophy. We got his old
phone and will try to sneek it into him as he wants to get his messages, and make a few calls.
Its Dan being himself and nothing is gonna slow that guy down. He thinks he will be
out in time for his birthday next week. You know my brother
not much is gonna slow him down, apperantly not even getting hit by a car.
We all have our fingers crossed and know that all the prayers from everyone
on the website you and Dan belong to have helped. Thank you again from our
entire family. Dan sends his love to you especially.
UPDATE 2.18.11: Guess who just got a very personal update from the man himself? Me!! That's whassup. DaddieDiesel just called a few minutes ago and talked as long as he could before the meds started kicking in. He sounds like he got hit by a car! See... we can laugh about it now... lol. Got to, right? He is going to be fine, but in alot of pain as you can imagine. It was so good to hear his voice. When I saw "ChiTown" pop up on my caller ID... I almost cried. But enough about me... He says to tell ALL of you, "Thank you for all of your thoughts and support. I'm no hero, I'm just a Daddy. I do what I gotta do."
NOTE: Aight we gotta switch it up... flip the script right here since everything looks good for him now. Everyone here knows Dan's username here on XDA is DaddieDiesel. Fabulous. Call him what you will... DaddieDiesel, Dan, Double D... it's all good (except maybe that last one, he probably won't be feeling that one... lol) But I started this thread, and if you've read through all the updates... you've heard me call him ChiTown. So from here on out, all updates from ME specifically will be addressing him as such. Roll with it.
UPDATE 2.20.11:So where's whats new with this bad ass HERO named ChiTown. Most recent news from his equally bad ass sisters: His days are long, his nights are longer. Today will be his third day going through very, very painful physical therapy. He is pissy, they say... alot of swearing! But trust me... that's nothing new with ChiTown... lmao. The man has a mouth ALOST as dirty as mine. Tomorrow will be the one week mark since the accident. He hates hospitals more than most people who hate hospitals. His doctor continues to say its nothing short of a miracle that his head didn't split completely open when he hit the pavement. Yesterday's MRI results were looking good, which is awesome. And the doctors are happy with the way everything continues to be improving so rapidly. Now if he'd just get over this big ass knot on his head and grow some hair back where it had to be shaved to put him back together... then maybe he'd let this ChuckTown girl jack a plane and come say whassup...
Wow, what a hero. My prayers are with him and his family. Thank you for taking the time to let us know. I really feel close to this community beyond the device it revolves around.
I don't think I know him but even so, my thoughts are with him and his family. That was a very brave thing he did, and I'm glad that his daughter is ok and his injuries weren't in vain. He's a hero, no question about that. Please keep us posted on how his recovery is going.
My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family, I have no doubt he will make a full recovery. He indeed is a hero. Keep us posted.

I have requested updates from the family... and with their permission, will continue to post them here. Thank you for all your thoughts. I know he'll pull through. Because I honestly can't believe there could be any other outcome in store for someone as sweet as him.
My prayers are with him and his family, God Bless.
I'm not sure if I've crossed paths with him, but I'm still very sorry to hear about it. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
I haven't heard of him either, but I wish him and his family well.
wow, I remember reading that last night somewhere... I hope the best for him and his daughter
I'll pray for him, seriously. What a hero. That's truely amazing. I hope he makes a speedy recovery. God bless his whole family and thanks for having the heart to make this thread.

I've seen him post around here and there, I hope he's okay. Prayers for him and his family.
Keep us updated.
He and his family will be in my prayers. This is truly and act of selflessness. As many have already said, this man is a true hero. Thanks for sharing this story and I hope that everything turns out well for him and his family. Thank God the daughter didn't sustain any serious injuries.

Members here who have children like I do certainly understand that once you have children they become the most important thing in your life. NOTHING stands in the way of protecting them, and NOTHING is as important to you. When a tragedy like this occurs it will make you realize how petty most of our problems truly are.

Thank you, Rob! (ptfdmedic)

The following is crossposted from the midNIGHT ROM threads.
I'm not sure if Rob posted anywhere here yet, but as per his Twitter feed, he's having to make some sacrifices as a parent and is selling his Epic and extras on eBay. Unfortunately, this also means that he will no longer be developing for right now.
On behalf of myself, all of ACS, and the userbase at large, I'd like to thank Rob (ptfdmedic) for everything he's contributed to the Epic community, and all of the time and effort he's put in, in his already busy schedule and hectic life. Our very best wishes are with he and his family.
I and ACS fully support Rob's mission to spread autism awareness. I would like to encourage everyone who has not yet added an awareness banner to your signature to do so now, whether Rob's version, or the version in my signature, by ZHkilla.
But don't just toss up a banner and call it a day - if Rob has taught us anything, it's that autism is a disease that we the public really must understand better. Read the Wikipedia article, read Rob's blog, and keep in mind the challenges that parents of autistic children, and autistic individuals themselves face. Understand that those on the spectrum are people first and foremost, and that while they may be a little different, they deserve all the respect that any decent human beings deserve.
Once again, thank you Rob, for your generous donation of time and effort to making our phones run better, making this community more harmonious, and raising autism awareness. I didn't mean to steal your thunder if you were planning on making an announcement here as well as Twitter... but I wanted to say a few words anyway.
+1000...Thank you!
Thank's Rob.
Rob, thank you for everything you have done here for all of us and for always doing it with class and a huge heart. All the best to you and your family.
I read your blog a while back on The Man with Bare Hands and it really touched me. I never got around to posting a banner but will do so when I get home tonight. Best wishes.
Man that really sucks. I don't post here often but I check in on xda every time I have a free minute. You guys are all great at developing but ptfmedic has always stood out to me not just because of his roms but because he always seems to be very helpful and very patient with the questions around here. Genuinely seems like a great guy. I have also followed his blog on many occasions and yes a lot of it is vey touching. If he has to go I'm sure he will be missed by many.
My question is (without knowing any details about his situation) Is there enough members in the Epic forums to make a one time say $5 or $10 donation to a save ptfmedics Epic fund. Seems like he goes through a lot on a daily basis and that phone could be his only outlet. I hope I am not out of line even suggesting this but I hate to see such a valued member of this community have to leave.

A sad day for XDA
Rob,
Thank you for everything you've done for my phone and things you have taught me about life while reading your blog. I wish you and your family all the best.
THANK YOU
Thanks, k0nane
I also started the same type of thread over at ppcgeeks as well.
If k0nane still needs a phone maybe everyone could donate to a "buy Rob's phone for him" fund and kill two birds with one stone.

Read his blog. It will give you a huge insight into his life and the daily battles he goes through. I've been lucky enough to be on his beta test team since version 2.6. In that time I got to know him as a person and not just as a member of the forums and rom chef, and for that I feel like I've been very lucky.
Thank you Rob.
Rob... your a really inspiring guy, you like too please everyone and use your free time to do this for us when you already do so much for your family... I never knew much about autism untill you opened my eyes and when I read your blog I see how much stress you go through and your about the nicest guy I've talked to... hope to see you around when you can get a new phone, thanks for all the work you've done for this community (this post probably doesn't have that great grammar, sorry)

Thanks and my thoughts on donations!

I've added a donate button to my signature, someone recently brought up doations and my wife is always hounding me about if I get paid for this lol.
I lostmy job about June 18th and have been a stay at home dad since, economy sucks but I get more time with my family. This is not a thread about "give me donations". But a thread to state anything I do will never require a donation, I will never ask for them but I won't turn them down either lol. Being a stay at home dad for 5 kids doesn't leave me a lot of time to theme much but I do what I can when I can. I want to thank my friend Paul for pushing me into the theme pool as I have come to enjoy it very much! Shane thanks for all the help when I need it! Qb thanks for everything you do also! Dreams thanks for your help also! If I forgot to name you let me know and I will thank you here also! And thanks to all the other friends I will soon come to make!
So with that if you feel the need to help buy my kids diapers feel free but don't EVER feel that you have to!
Thanks again everyone!

I can definately empathize with your current situation Zigg. I have 6 kids and my wife has been outta work for several months now. Fortunately she gets to be a Full-Time Mom and help out her parents as well ( her dad just recently had quadriple by-pass surgery and can't get outta the house yet so she's running around for them ). I have a decent job that pays better than minimum wage , but we've learned to do without alot of the extra things we liked to do when she was working as well. I can't help you out financially at the moment but my prayers are with you and your family.

Developers and contributors deserve just as much income if not more than people who make money from publishing apps to the Market. Five or ten dollars to the guy who makes a game you're lucky to get two hours out of or the guy who makes it so your keyboard no longer misses keys or gets your GPS working?

And I am also sorry to hear about the probles you are having Zigg, I have serious problems, but I sorta feel bad even talking about them on here, I just don't want to be looked at like I'm trying to get money. I guess I have to much pride. There was one moment I did mention the fact that I was out of work for one week when the snow hit ATL (we can't handle snow down here lol), and several good friends donated, I felt bad/happy the whole month. But now I'm lucky if I get 16-20 hours a week......... ok enough of that, I'm starting to feel bad already...

He is super helpful to all of the Dev's as well answering questions about their particular roms. If one could get nominated for a forum moderator or forum assistant or whatever, he would be a shoe in. Thanks evo4gnoob.

Well, we all have different skill sets; you and other people have made guides. I won't make one because I feel there are just enough guides already made, even though no one is stopping me. So kudos to you as well.

And kudos of course to you as well... Surprised they haven't put you in charge of xda yet
Dark Souls is the bane of my existence... I hated that Taurus demon at the beginning but it became easier after that. Until I killed all of the important NPCs, limiting my skills and equipment are at beginner level.... *sigh*

Lol I'm sure there are people out there that don't like me and would oppose it vehemently
And he was annoying...and was it the guy right at firelink shrine? I had to make a new game cuz I tried killing him and he raped my face off...and I'm only at the Great Wolf Sif battle, though I haven't approached him yet.

I killed the human knight in the beginning, EVERYONE in the shrine, the giant blacksmith and the merchant in the Undead Berg (he had an annoying laugh). Easiest way to kill them was to lead them to an edge and try to bounce them off with your shield. You may die, but they die too because they follow off the edge.
Could gun for leadership over on Android Passions... Small community but peaceful, involved admins and mods. Of course I'm staying here, just something to supplement here
He's a lot nicer than me. I'm an angry little elf....

I've been wary not to kill too many people; I'm a theif, so I can't go mass kill with attack..and the undead merchant's laugh is annoying. Good strategy...I'll keep it in mind.
And I've never heard of it, and I doubt they'd like promoting an outsider. lol Though I'm staying here as well.

my thread will never die

Hello and OT thread

My wife just surprised me with a sgs3, for my bday. Anyways just wanted to introduce myself because you will see me posting. I will have a lot of questions, after i read of course. I came from the Desire HD and Sensation so i'm familiar with android and rooting but now i'm dealing with a beast and this is my first samsung phone. Anyways, i'm glad to be apart of a new community.

Lets give this idea a try, make sure to read this post

You know what, let's go with this idea.
As long as you guys can keep this friendly, lets make this the SGS3, hello and chat thread.
A few ground rules:
1) I am relying on everyone to report and ignore any trollish posts rather than respond to them
2) If this goes downhill, I will not hesitate to close it
That said, enjoy :good:

Lol you guys are a much tougher crowd than the HTC guys. This is my 3rd android phone and have been a member of xda since last november. I know the routine but goodlooking out.

Yes, I discovered that too when I switched from HTC to Samsung.. But then again I think more idots use samsung devices so patience runs thin with more senior guys. hahhaha
welcome...
2 rules to follow
1.read
2.read
if you are coming from HTC, you will catch up fast. SAmsung phones are usually "development friendly". Very easy to tinker with their phones (VZN Locked bootloader exempt)

This kinda thread actually isn't a bad idea, well what I mean is to have ONE thread to introduce ourselves in, we all know each others user names but maybe we would have a better community if we said a bit about ourselves and our first names or something.
Just a thought.
Tom, 27, software dev student, I enjoy electronic music, cars, the outdoors and of course gadgets of all kinds!
I hope other people get involved or else I've just made a right tit of myself

Nice, I've actually been thinking of getting into day trading. My friend started doing it when he got laid off and now he just trades stocks in his basement all day.. He makes very good money and has no boss to answer to. But he does have a high risk of losing everything he has if something he had his $ in crashed

Trading stocks is very risky business. Learn everything you can about stocks trading and then unlearn. Ironically, I make money only by not knowing too much about stock
Anyway, good luck to you and your friend.

netarchy, I thought you were a porno-holic?

That's the essence of a forum, we are all equal and no one judges anyone. We all share the same desire and that is our tech.
