As far as I can tell, the built-in camera app only lets you use the front facing camera to take still photos, and not to record videos. (Seems odd since the front facing camera is presumably designed to support video for video real time video calls...) Anyone know how you can record video with the front facing camera?
you'll probably need a 3rd party software to use that camera for Self video blogging.
Unless they add it later down the track.
Fring allows you to use that camera for video calls. But yes, Its just a matter of someone developing a app.
has anyone found or made a app for this yet?
I wouldnt bother to be honest it is a pile of wank. But anyways there is an app ive seen before that can record via the normal camera and records you through the front camera as you record.

Do you remember what the app is called, because I have a Galaxy Tab and my theory is: if it works for Galaxy S, it will work for the Tab.
is called quick video mail
I just tried searching the forum to see if Skype video chat is possible with a D2. I didn't have any success and I am sorry if this question has already been answered!
It looks like my phone has a front facing camera but when I log in to Skype, video chat is not an option. Is it possible?
Thanks for your help!
D2 doesn't have a front facing camera.

What he said. What you're thinking is a front facing camera is probably the ambient light sensor in the upper right hand corner.

The Skype app, contrary to what most people would obviously assume, does not feature any kind of video chatting/calling feature. You are also most likely confusing the notification LED with a front-facing camera.
There is a free app on the Market, though, that provides video chatting capability; it's called Tango. I've tried it several times, and while it's a bit awkward video chatting with cameras on the back of both phones, it still works well enough that I can both see and hear the person I'm calling. The only annoyance I've had with the app so far is the noticeable sound delay, and it has some mixed overall reviews, but it's the only video calling app that seems to be viable.
Tango works alright. Try using it while standing in front of a mirror and it works pretty well on D2
does anyone use online banking apps that allow you to make a deposit simply
by taking a picture of the check? it works perfectly on my phone(Galaxy Nexus)
and tablet(Samsung Galaxy Tab 2), both running official ICS, not rooted.
I just snap a picture, click okay, and then the image of check gets uploaded to
the bank... the check gets deposited the next day, usually.
however, I have been trying to get it to work using just the front-facing camera
on my Nexus 7. Sometimes the app just won't allow me to use the camera,
or keeps telling me to re-take the picture again. I assume this is because the
front camera's resolution is too low? Or is it because the apps are not 100%
compatible with Jelly Bean?
I don't want this to sound like an endorsement or advertisement for the bank,
so I'm not mentioning the name of these banks. One is a big bank and the
name starts with C. The other one is my credit union.
Normally, this wouldn't be an issue, because I would just do it on my Galaxy Nexus.
However, I accidentally left my phone in the office today, so I had to drive to
the bank and deposit the actual checks.
Are you using this app?

I can take pictures... but the quality is so low that the banking app wouldn't
allow it to be uploaded. (not to mention that it's not easy trying to hold
the check in front of the screen)
Use your phone.
The camera in the N7 was designed for video conferencing, nothing else. It was not designed to take photos.

lol, this was the exact phrase that came to mind when I saw the topic title.
I got the phone on launch day at Verizon and really like it. The speed, screen and still camera have all really impressed me. However there are 3 issues that have me considering exchanging it.
1) Screeching during phone calls. I don't use my phone for voice calls that much, but when I do, it's extremely distracting with the digital screeching that happens every few seconds. It does it worse sometimes but I rarely complete a call screech free. Is everyone on Verizon experiencing the same thing? Should I exchange mine for another? Can/Will a software fix this?
2) Touchscreen issues. Often when I double click to zoom in on a webpage, the phone starts registering phantom touches and is basically impossible to use until it's rebooted.
3) Autofocus issue on video recording. This absolutely ruins videos for me. I can't believe they'd ship a phone with this bad of an issue and I can't believe the reviews didn't make a bigger deal out of it. Is there anyway a custom video recording app could fix it? Even if LG is working on a fix, Verizon wouldn't roll it out for months I'm sure.
Any help on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated.
1 - I'm not experiencing any screeching on Verizon calls. An update with newer radio firmware might fix this sort of thing, but that might be a ways away and I haven't seen any other reports of this.
2 - Sounds like a pretty serious problem, show a vzw rep and you should be able to swap it out after they try soft resets and whatever other troubleshooting they wanna do.
3 - I'm experiencing this as well, not often, but it made for a crappy 5 second span in a video of my cat rolling around in the laundry
1. Are you OTA either VZN or flashed in a custom rom?
2. I stopped doing it this way because of knock on. I just use pinch zoom now.
3. I haven't had the issue as long add I didn't try to take videos like I was filming Blair witch. Aka stand still. And if you video tape things getting closer and farther away it's going to refocus. I did start using manual focus on pictures though....1000x better. Many more keepers.

No screeching here either, but I havent made many calls, and none of them have been that long (this phone can really make calls too? I figured it was just a gaming and texting machine )
I find my touchscreen is very sensitive in the fact that I dont even have to TOUCH it to press a button, sometimes. Just hovering my finger close enough to the screen causes a touch.....this may not be unique to this phone, Ive just never noticed it on others. Doesnt worry me too much. There is a place to calibrate it in the settings, have you tried running that procedure?
The video thing is apparently common for LG phones. I believe a previous Optimus phone had the same problem and it was fixed via an update. I would expect the same to happen for the G2, eventually (or a third party dev fixes it for them )

havent had the first 2 problems but the third i have every time i record with my camera. for a phone that has optical image stabilization, you shouldnt have to be perfectly still to get the camera to focus. the OIS on this camera is not very good if it cant have alot of light coming in. so recording this like inside of a building where the lighting is not as bright as outside will result in a blurred video if you move. this is a big downside to the camera to me. it would have been alot better if they would have atleast made the video camera tap to focus. but there is not 1 focus settings when in video mode. you dont always get to be still especially when videoing things like your kids. it gets annoying real fast and i end up having to redo the video.

You CAN tap to focus in videos. It will even continue to track the object you tap on if it moves.

not on the Verizon version. when you tap the screen, it does absolutely nothing. the only tracking thing is that tracking zoom which is pointless.
you can't manually choose what to focus on in the video app

on my at&t lg g2 when in video mode you can not tap to focus. you can in picture mode but my original post was not talking about picture mode.
I think you can tap to focus on the korean variant. Sadly, I think the korean variant is much more powerful than the international one.

this is kinda why i made a thread a while ago that died, asking if someone with the international version could upload the camera APK and port it to ours.

Really?? That's the version I have too. When I tap while recording video, it puts 2 blue brackets around the object. If I move in, that brackets grow larger and keep tracking the object. Vice versa too.
I did flash CleanROM, but I wasn't aware of any camera changes. I thought it worked like this even as stock.

Update there is,i will use it now and let you know.It might also be in yours and you dont know it ....like i didnt.
If you have set the 60fps video the feature doesnt work,it only works with the 30fps.Try it.It will work after you start the recording not before.

Yep, this is how mine is too. AT&T version. If you go into video mode, then options, then hit Reset, it should work after you start recording.

in 30 fps mode it has a tap to focus after you start recording, but in 60 fps it does not. this is what i also said in my original post. i was talking about 60 fps mode. why would you not have tap to focus in the best mode for the camera? they allow me to control other aspects in 60 fps mode but not focusing? that's something i dont understand. 60 fps mode is much smoother than 30 fps mode yet the camera doesnt have something as easy as any kind of focusing in 60 fps mode.

The new Google Now update enables our baby to take pictures and record videos with our voice commandment...one of the scenarios I can think of is that while driving and the X is docked on windshield...and it is sunset out there. Without shaking the phone, a picture is captured :victory:

I tried it but it only opens the camera app. Is there a specific command to get it to take a picture too?

Sadly no...I was over-excited. Sorry about that. It is just I have seen so many things that I wanted to record while driving before...and both of my hands had to be on the wheel (chicago snowy days). And I thought this might do the trick...can autovoice do it..just curious?
At least this new command saves me from shaking the phone...all I need to do now is just a quick touch.
Since they put the camera in the play store and can issue updates via gapps, I think they should integrate voice commands in the camera app like other phones. For instance have a settings for it to turn it on and use Google now to open up camera app and be able to say "cheese, capture, record, etc"

Was pretty excited when I saw this thread and then was quickly disappointed when I tried it and the only thing it did was open the app. I still had to interact with the cera to actually take the picture or record the video. It'll be pretty cool if/when it actually does though.
