Safest, easiest method to go back to stock? - Fascinate General

So far all I've done is rooted, red cwm,and flashed the eb01 modem. I'm not ready and would like to go back to ea28. How is the easiest, and safest method? Is there a DI01 or EA28 modem I can flash over EB01? Or should I use adryn's DI01 All in One Odin package? Thanks

Just Odin the All in one package, easiest one for stock.

How do you flash a kernal?

Let's say I were to flash Eugene's new 2.2 rom, how would I reflash the stock kernal in order to downgrade?

Your post confuses me. What are you downgrading/to? There are two ways (that I know of) to flash a kernel. One is to flash it through recovery. Two is the flash it through odin; which I am not familiar with and do not prefer.

Where exactly is this so called "list" you speak of?

Odin is one way (my preferred). Only have problems if I disconnect the phone (oops) or package something wrong.
Turn phone off.
Start Odin.
Load tarred zImage in a tar file (IMPORTANT: tarred with --format=ustar) into CSC section in Odin.
Plug in usb cable to computer and phone.
Get into download mode.
Wait for "COM" port to light up on Odin.
Click start.
CSC section? you sure?

best way to revert from obsidian?

i have a nandroid of ji6. do i just apply that and flash a ji6 kernal? can someone link me to one if so? if not, can someone explain how to do it? thanks.
I believe you have to ODIN the official JI6 release (you can find it in the dev forum). Then you have to root, install ROM Manager, and nandroid your way back to where you were.
The key is to Odin a Rom, any Rom, that has the JI6 kernel.
Odin JI6 and then nandroid.
Nandroid doesn't install the kernel, so you would end up with a "brick" if you tried to nandroid on a 2.2 rom.
thanks guys! loving obsidian so far, but i think i need the signal strength boost from ji6.
Nope, I was on Obsidian and just flashed straight back to Bionic Fusion through clockworkmod recovery (straight, not through ROM Manager), and then Core kernel on top of that. I'm running perfect apart from slow market downloads (mostly my fault I think--accidentally deleted some system apparently and then restored; downloads work, but fussy)

that's because bionix flashes the kernal along with the rom. nandroid doesn't. that is why i asked if i could just flash the ji6 kernel after restoring my nandroid.
ATTN: Don't give advice if you don't know what you're talking about.
On to the post:
You can feel free to nandroid or flash to/from anything. However, if your Obsidian install is like many other peoples, you probably can't do crap in recovery. In that case, you need to Odin. However, if your recovery does work, just flash the rom and the kernel (or just the rom, if the kernel is included)
OK ill give it a shot if I decide I don't like obsidian. Thanks.

By can't do crap do you mean can't flash or can't access clockwork mod? (I can boot into clockworkmod just fine)

Ah, sorry. I thought the issue was whether you have to ODIN back to stock in order to roll back from Froyo.
For me the safest was to ODIN JFD, then flash JI6.

[Q] FULL EB13 Odin MD5/Tar update?(Not DI18 add-on)

Is someone making a FULL EB13 Odin update that don't require DI18 and can be applied from scratch?Clean imstall is better than over DI18 update.
And is someone making a deodexed EB13 Clockwork zip?So we can mod the stock rom and remove/add some things.
Samsung actually made it. It's the .exe file. People say it works great.

Best rooting method/Favorite ROM?

Currently running kernel 2.6.32.9 and firmware SCH-I500.EA01.
What's the best/safest rooting method?
What's your current favorite rom?
Do you have to reactivate your phone every time a new ROM is flashed (Verizon)?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT - rooted by follow the CM wiki using adb. I can't boot into clockwork right now, it just goes to regular. It was flashed using ROM manager.
Easiest rooting method I've found is Odin a custom rom that's already rooted. I like PWGB or tsmpoolparty. Using poolparty right now. I returned phone to stock. Download rom. Odin cwr (clockwork recovery) and flash it. If you go with PWGB you don't have to flash in cwr. For most others you do.
You can find the pwgb in the android dev section, it's a pure Odin file.

Go with the pwgb odin file, its a one file deal (+cwm)

[Q] Unrooting Method for MJA?

Noob question here but has anyone developed an unroot method for MJA? May need to take the device back to Sprint soon and would like to get everything back to stock.
Thanks in advanced.

Here is a link where you can find the tar file to Odin. This will take you to full stock and unrooted.

That link only works if you pay to download though. The file is too big for the free download option.
Thanks, guys. I have come across an issue though. The .tar file seems to cause Odin to crash... Any ideas?

Had the same problem, you are probably on MJA (eg. 4.3) and you can't Odin back to 4.2.2 (thats what samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SPH-L720 firmware links are); rwilco12 has the stock MJA firmware that you can flash over modem to get back to stock.
Rwilco stock MJA: rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung%20Galaxy%20S4%20%28SPH-L720%29/Stock%20ROMs/MJA/Original%20TAR
So just flash with Odin PC and the mja tar too fully revert back to stock? I'm currently running cm10.2 mja
