Is there a custom ROM in development to accomplish this? The Leo looks to be phenominal - just no due dates in the US.
TIA
I bought at expansys-usa.com.
Unlocked.
Regards.
Right on. Ty for the reply. So I should just be able to load up a custom Leo ROM, stuff in my simcard, and use all the AT&T contract features I currently use on my AT&T Tilt 2?
TY again!
Well, just keep in mind, the model being sold at expansys-usa is the Euro model, meaning no 3G service in the US. However, you can still place calls over GSM network (both ATT and T-Mobile) and use EDGE data connection.
Cheers,
S.
instead of rushing on getting one like i did you can wait till tmobile releases their's sometime around march(rumor) and get it unlock for att. This phone would be a lot better with 3g.
Thanks for all the info ya'll!
T-Mo and AT&T do not use same bands !!!
Please note that while AT&T uses 850Mhz band T-Mo uses the 1700Mhz. What will happen, if the T-Mo version will be 1700/2100 as I suspect, is that if it will be unlocked, even if it will show on screen it is on a 3G network, it will be for uploading only, and will not download a thing.
If the advise is to wait, I would wait until Telstra in Australia will start selling HD2, and import it from there, as their 'NextG' network is 850Mhz.
I know cause I just did the same with my HD. Got an aussie unit, and unlocked it. (internet buy)
As for myself, based on my 6 months experiance with the HD, I will get tomorrow my EU version. Yes, will not have 3G, but quite frankly, the 3G is almost useless for me because at leat on the HD it drained my 1350mAh battery pretty quick, being on 3G. I had to install WMlonglife and has been on a 2G network most of the time. Another thing - It is pretty easy to be on Wi Fi at home, at office, at starbucks, etc.. lots of free access points. For emails/SMS the 2G is good enough regardless.. So - I went with the EU version. BTW- I know expansys sells it for $784, but check www.networkingrus.com (hope I do not violate a forum rule, if I do, I appologise) but they sell for far less, and I have purchased 3 phones from them already, got great service and when I was over seas and my phone broke, I purchased one from them , and they shipped it to me there, it got stuck in customs, they got it back, and re-shipped to my other location while I was travelling. Very honest, and price is good.
Would i wait 3 moths? I would say yes if it was rock solid date, and guaranteed to work on the AT&T band. I decided not to wait any more, when SSPL already works (I am a 28014 addict)
Hope i helped here..

I agree....mine is an unlocked euro version too, and I am using mine on AT&T with no problems! It is even pretty fast on the Edge data network..... in addition, I use mine with my Verizon mifi modem for wifi, and it is blazing fast.....I am falling madly in love with my HD2 now that there are some custom roms available.....LOL
Later.....
BTW, I too got mine there.......they are great people to deal with!

Dang! I did not know of that place. I bought mine on ebay. It came with everything and a 8GB memory card instead of 2GB. Bought it for $764 + 8% cashback.
Also using mine on AT&T no prob
I bought a Euro model as well, using it in the US on T-Mo and not regretting a thing: IN fact, I had a HD the year before. No 3G, don't care.
On top of that, I got my wife a TP2 through T-Mo. She used it 10 days, finding the 3G to be disappointing. I didn't do a head to head between the T-Mo 3G and my EDGE, that would just be silly.
My concern about a T-Mo version of Leo, assuming the rumors are correct, is what happens to the T-Mo specific functions, and can it be flashed by one of the magnificent custom ROM's available here on XDA? The only T-Mo specific feature I can come up with is 5 fav.....but I'm not sure that's even offered anymore.
The question is.....just for laughs.....can a T-Mo branded Leo be flashed with a custom ROM?
Agreed with pretty much everyone who went and got their HD2 and using it on ATT or TMobile. I bought mine a week after ATT released the Tilt2. I sold my Tilt2 few days after I got the HD2. I never looked back and the device is sexy as hell. Enjoying it even more now because with custom ROMs the internal storage is sweet (as good as the TP2/Tilt2).
I purchased my Leo in Hong Kong knowing full well that it would not work on the 3G with AT&T. That was not my main concern. It works very well. Love it especially with some of the mods to have 20 shortcuts instead of 9.

unlocked phone is custom ROM ready..

Don't worry, if you get a T-MO leo when it is offered, you can always unlock it and put a cooked ROM on it, BUT, don't ever try to get serviced after, because they will deny any warranty repairs. Even for obvious malfunation you will be blamed it was a result of flashing..
I never buy the hardware from the service provider. as an AT&T customer i was dumb enough to get an iphone to my daughter, paid $199 for it, and got locked for two years with a monstrous 2 year contact of $43/month (text, broadband, $10 family line). Guess what - phone was broken (screen shattered) after 3 months. they say warranty does not cover screen. $200 repair, 2 years clock started again, phone got nroken again (this POS breaks when you give it a look !) so now I am locked with $43/month plan, and no iphone. yes, AT&T will not let you go even when they know you do not have an iphone any more. My daughter runs a LG vue and pays the $43 until 2011 !!! that has taught me the lesson... I get my phone for real hard cash and never lock myself with contracts... PS: $43 x 24 +199 = $1,231. Boy was i dumb, or what? My new HD2 was $717 +shipping...

Hi all.
I am traveling to the UK and Europe for 8 weeks with my Telecom XT (New Zealand) Nexus One (From AT&T 850/1900mhz).
Does anyone know what the best network to go on would be? I will be using the phone mostly for data connections for maps, email, booking accommodation etc and also as a wi-fi hot spot for my laptop. I will send no more then 5 txts per day and maybe 1 call a day tops.
I had a look around the forums but couldn't find any info since around 2008. I figure its going to be a bit of a pain because I will be roaming.
If anyone from the UK or who has knowledge of their networks could help it would be much appreciated.
My apologies for putting this in General rather then Q&A. I cannot figure out how to delete or move this either...
Do you absolutely need your NZ number? Or else you should just buy a pay as you go sim in the few countries where you will stay for a while. You can roam for a few days between longer stops and buy another once you get somewhere else. Only takes a few minutes in the uk.
With data you can call out on skype. So you can use that also.
Hi, Thanks for the reply. I have no need to use my New Zealand Number.
I was hoping I would be able to buy a sim on a network over there that would allow me to use data in the UK and several countries around Europe (EU). For the Europe part of the Journey we are only spending up to 4 days in each country so I don't particularly want to but 7 sim cards. Is there a network that offers a sim that will work in all of Europe without charging roaming rates? That way I could I just have another on for in the UK?
I think you could be right about having one Sim for the Uk and then buying another one in every few countries in the Europe.
I was hoping a UK carrier might have a data that allowed roaming but it doesn't look like that.
Is there a prepaid sim that would work in EU countries without charging roaming in between them?

Almost all the carriers have agreements with each other. A uk sim will roam in most if not all of europe. The problem with having a sim from one country is that you might not be able to top it up in another country. I have a tmo uk sim but ive never tried adding money from somewhere else. You might be able to do it with a credit card online but im not sure if that will work 100%.
Roaming with data is a complete ripoff! For 5 pounds a month in the uk i get 1gb. If you pay 30 pounds you only get 50mb abroad so I would definitely try stopping quickly at a phone store if youre data hungry. I dont know any where you can use anywhere
On the other hand there are some euro travel plans on tmo/orange/o2 that give you 200/300 minutes abroad per month at a discounted rate and recieve for free.
plans from uk:
http://www.o2international.co.uk/callingfromoverseas/myeurope_extra.aspx
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/boosters/
http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?c=OUKPage&cid=1044131837837&pagename=PersonalIR#ET
FYI you recieve txts for FREE in europe
Yeah. Looks like I should just get A prepaid sim for the UK while I'm there and get another pre paid sim in a couple of European countries.
It looks like I can get 50 Mb £40 that will last for 30 days in Europe with Orange. I doubt 50mb will be enough.
Vodafone Uk looks the best with Vodafone Data Traveller that gives you 25MB in selected European countries for 2pounds per day. It doesn't say if its 25MB per day or per month but I assume it is per day.
Still a complete rip off like you said.
I was hoping there was going to be a network that would cover all UK and Europe so that's a shame.
Ill just have to hope I don't lose all my sim cards I will be carrying.
Cheers for your help.
Ill post back here if I find a particularly cheap way to use data on my phone while in multiple countries in Europe.
I bought a pre-paid Orange SIM when I was in the UK a few months ago. Came with 100MB which I managed to make last the whole two weeks (ran out on my last day). However, that was being very careful with mobile data and using Wifi as much as possible.
Here is a quite useful overview:
http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/roaming/tariffs/in_ms/index_en.htm
Just select the country where you bought your prepaid SIM, then select "data pre-paid" and you will see the costs in your destination country.
The prices are very similar because they are limited by european regulations recently introduced.
"3" prepaid sim is dirt cheap for data. Buy in the UK and you can use your data allocation in UK, Ireland, Italy and Sweden without any roaming charges at all.
I've used my "3 Ireland" sim over in Italy and it worked a threat.
€4.99 for 500MB/month so it won't cost an arm and a leg. You can buy as many data addons as you need and when one expires then it automatically starts using the next one. So if 1Gb required just buy 2 data addons for €9.98
3 UK will have different pricing and offers, but data roaming will still work for the above mentioned countries.
See here for more info http://www.three.co.uk/
Just drop into one of their stores when you're in the UK and get it all sorted there.
HTH.
I can confirm what cpm says. I'm on 3 Ireland with a free add-on of 500MB data per month that I can use in Denmark while roaming on the Danish 3 network. The same applies when I'm in Sweden, UK, and Italy.
+1 for three
they even give you free skype (over gsm... not crappy data connection)

i have t-mobile N1 from USA.
i was in london 2 months ago and at heathrow, i got a t-mobile sim chip out of a vending machine ( 10 to 15 pounds ) and had seamless experience as local customer on the new number. The only hard part was figuring out that i needed to 'top-off' the pay-go account and finally went to a t-mobile store in order to pay 15 or 20 pounds at a time to get necessary credit on the pay-go account.
I have a US tmo nexus, and used orange in the UK for a few weeks earlier this year. Loved the fact that you can top up by going into virtually any store and buying a top up voucher, then just enter the voucher PIN into your phone...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Don't forget that you can also top-up your Pay As You Go data online also (unless you need a UK credit card?). Useful when you already have your first data package in place.
If you go with 3 though, you shouldn't need to top-up your data plan too often
I am going to be in Japan for at least an year from September and am wondering if there is a way of getting a data plan on a pay as you go SIM card (I have a rooted Desire with stock Gingerbread I'd like to keep using). With DoCoMo and Softbank out of the question and AU being CDMA, what is the situation with the smaller players (Willcom, eMobile, etc)?

PAYG available using Docomo's network with the MVNO "bmobile".
The interesting plan is "Fair", SIM initially costs 9000 yen and good for 4mo/1gb (whichever comes first). Recharges available for about 8000 for the 4mo/1gb option, or 3100 for 1mo/1gb.
You can add a (postpaid) optional voice service for 1200/mo, 1 year fixed commitment, but you must be a resident for the voice service. Oh, they're credit card only too. Japanese language only customer support.
Willcom went bankrupt last year, the smoldering remnants were picked up by Softbank.
I'm going to the UK at the end of the week and I want to buy a SIM for my Canadian Note 4 (N910W8). If I buy a SIM with O2, should I get the 3G or the 4G version? I am not sure if the 4G will work on this phone or not.
Alternatively, if any UK members can recommend something other than O2, I'm all ears. (I don't care that much about minutes, but SMS would be nice, data the priority).
Thanks.
Hi,
EE or Vodafone look like your best shot at using 4G here in the UK. Details of the bands the different operators use can be found here:

I got the phone band specs from here:

If you're only here for a short period of time, you might want to try GiffGaff (https://giffgaff.com/). They use the O2 infrastructure, but have better packages for short term use (they call them 'goodybags'). Not sure if they've got 4G available as yet, but 3G is generally quite good from what recent users have told me.
Hi all!
I'm going on a 2 month trip to Canada. I'm starting out in the Ontario area and will then decide on where to go exactly.. I've got a european Note 3 (from Switzerland where I live) and I want to know, if I can get any 3G or 4G connectivity?
Additionally, what provider do you recommend? I'm searching for a pre-paid one for simple telephony and texting, but it would be nice if some data usage is included.
Can any Canadians help me out here? I'd love to use my phablet there aswell, not only in Wifi areas

I'm pretty sure your european note 3 is region locked. You must unlock your phone to get it working in Canada. I would recommend Chatr for pay per use $20 u get unlimited calls and text. Here take a look http://www.chatrwireless.com/web/content/payperuse

The region lock is deactivated after you make 5 minutes of calls on it. for the specific procedure, google.
