Maybe someone could find this interesting...
While I find cumbersome to find out the (for instance) IP addresses assigned to the device, or frustrating when Internet Explorer cannot find any web page because the current connection is the WRONG one...
... I ended up writing my own Today Screen plugin to display more information on the active connection. Yeah, I know this is not quite a "common" requirement, but maybe someone finds it useful... or even can suggest further improvements - that will be of course welcome!
I've attached some screenshots of it running on both a WM5 emulator and my real Hermes running WM6 - thanks Schap!
Please, feel free to use it, redistribute it, add to a ROM kitchen, or cook it into any ROM...
Updated August, 13th...
More changes with the 1.3 version. Now localization has been added. I'm currently shipping this version with English (native) and Spanish languages. I've also added a ZIP file with a little document where you can find instructions to localize/translate ConnState to your preferred language and a template localization file for English.
Hasta la vista!!!!
Version History:
V1.0
First version released.
V1.1
VGA screen support added (enough to make it usable)
V1.2
Completed VGA screen support.
Added expand/collapse button - per popular request
V1.3
Localization support. ConnState currently ships in English and Spanish languages.
Thanks!!! Good work.
Thanks, PPCNUT... now let's see if someone likes it!!

Of course... in fact, why didn't I think about that in first place? :$ I was thinking about leaving the plugin "collapsed" (the size of "no connection") and add a right-hand minibutton that expands the thing up to its size... And even allow tapping you on it to open another window with full details on the connection...
This weekend will be fun
Thanks alot for your comments!!!
This is actually very nice work and I would use it, once you were able to condense it into a smaller amount of space.
Dont work in VGA screen (
(tested on Universal WM6)
Hope you fix it soon.
Nice. I would definitely use this if it was 'shorter'
Totally not for noobs but if you are are a road warrior, or on the road a lot sniffing WiFi hotspots then this is really a great add on!
thanks a lot.

Sorry, man... As I wrote it for myself, I tend to "hardcode" certain things Now, version 1.1 supports VGA screens.
Check first post for updates - and thanks!

To all of you that took the time to try this little toy, I have just released version 1.2. Take a look at the first post with the new CAB and screenshots.
Thanks all for your comments and suggestions!
Cheers!
improvement suggestion
would it be possible to display the proxy info? this would be very useful for the Cingular users (pie does not work via cell connection without proxy and wifi does not work with proxy). thanks

Nice one, @dpduser - that's staying on my Today screen!!!
As it's a today screen plugin, can you make the Options button in the today screen configuration give us access to the things we wanna see displayed in the plugin?? I'm thinking of having the MAC addresss displayed, but wouldn't necessarily want it all the time - same goes for the connection being used; if I'm at home, then I'm usually using Wi-Fi.....you catch my drift??
Sorry if I'm talking out of turn, just my $0.02 You can probably tell, I'm not a programmer, just a netadmin with a deathwish
Mark.
VGA rocks!!!
It would be nice to have localization support in 1.3 release.
Please confirm it

Feedback & ongoing work
First, thanks to all of you that took the time to play with ConnState!!
For the "improvements" part, and as I have read from your feedback:
- Regarding an "Options" dialog to configure somewhat more "advanced" features, yes, I'm working on it - It just takes a little longer than expected because now I'm trying to do a more compatible component, that must support QVGA & VGA screens and has to do so both in portrait and landscape orientations (if you do it, do it right, isn't it? ) BTW... anyone out there with a SQUARE screen device?
- MAC addresses? Yeah, I guess it's feasible... I'll try to add both MAC & PAN addresses. Not obvious, somewhat tricky but absolutely feasible!
- Show proxy information: regarding this, I was amazed at how tricky it is to discover the current proxy configuration for a connection! In first place I have to deal with WM's Provisioning and do that in XML (so an XML parser has to be placed in!)
- Localization!! Of course YES!!! Now I have two options to do it: one could be to maintain a single .DLL with embedded resources in a variety of languages or I could build a number of different DLLs each one built for a language... Hmmmm... Currently deciding on it!! I can do both Spanish and English versions... What languages are required? Would you, nice people, help me localizing this?

I'm Vietnamese so that I like to see my mother language display on my PPC.
In addition, it'd be cool if I could translate the localization file by Notepad without creating a DLL file (just like Spb does).

If you need translator (in Vietnamese of course ), feel free to write me. I will help you with pleasure.
Keep up the Good work!
Thanks

Installed, working great on Hermes, except the today plug-in isn't activated by default after install. Maybe this is because of the variety of devices enabling the today-plugins, i don't know.
What does CorrentDTPTNetwork mean?
We can scroll through your photo list by sliding your finger along the picture by full screen. If anyone can make it. It's so great.
I see "icontact" & iMedia Player" is the great job of PPC. We have enough experience to do it. I think the "iPhoto" is not the problem.
Hope it will some soon.

It may so hard for PPC because PPC can't make 2 fingers actions at the same time

no need for 2 finger actions. you'll do them separate... bottom up change pic, sideways zoom in...
it's being used on the touch flow cube...
as for picsel browser.... looks very nice... ill try it and report!

Hey Guys, Byka is working on a PictureViewer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdvxqk7bNMU
I use this one on my touch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323674&highlight=picture
Not sure if it will works with other PPC's but I really like it.
I started writing something exactly like you're describing, but I haven't finished it. I've been busy trying to finish up this job and find a new job and haven't had as much free time for programming. I'll do a little more work on it when I get a chance and see what you guys think.
picsel is ultra slow at loading...
bika's still in dev... though it looks awesome!
pictureviewer 1.6 didn't work for me... I'm guessing there's a problem in the cfnet version?

I just tested in WM5. It works. But I don't like the design.
Byka's PictureViewer is good design. I have some idea.
1) In photo list mode, we can scroll (left or right) pictures in the list one by one.
2) Double click the photo to enlarge the photo to full screen.
3) In full screen mode, have a zoom & move function.
4) double click the screen to back to photo list mode.
Base on our current technology, it should not be hard to do. I am shameful that I don't know the programming so much.
SIMPLE IS THE BEST

simple, yet works, but still early in development. it does most of what you ask, except to zoom, you tap the screen.
Hope someone find it interesting

Just tried this and its surprising easy to use and does exactly what it says on the tin!!
Very handy if you want a quick screenshot!
EDIT
I have since noticed that when my phone automatically syncs every now and again ShakeandSave takes a screenshot, but I didn't shake phone. Possibly a few bugs with this software.
Once screenshot is taken you have option to exit program or continue using it. If you select to exit program, above bug obviously won't happen
It's nice to see imaginative new software but, personally, I struggle to see quite how useful this is.
There are other, more interesting ideas out there IMO - like Shoogle for example.
Thanks for the useful app. Can you make adjustment of location for screenshots storage? (For example, value in the register)
It is desirable to keep also other options in the register:
- Image Format
- Agree
- Unload after screenshot is taken
And command line parameter "start" - quick start, don't show the setting screen

I really like this apps. It is much better than the others which, on my Touch Pro, rely on a timer, which seems to always be too short or too long. Now, with your great app, I can just shake my TP when I am ready.
I would like to second the request to add a way to specify the location for the screenshot. Personally, I would rather have them stored on my storage card, than in my main device memory.

quite like that
the use of it for a battery indicator is very good
This is nothing special, but I was searching for it and couldnt find it, so I threw it together.
It is simply a wrapper for the Myspace Mobile site (m.myspace.com) and should render in all resolutions.
It makes use of the widget capabilities of Windows 6.5, and thus is ONLY FOR 6.5. This is not a ".cab" file it is a ".wgt" file.
Extract the ".wgt" and click to install it!
The only know bug is when installing some users may get the "There is no application associated with Myspace. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application" error depending on how the ".wgt" association is setup . To fix it, install Themuzz's solution which sets the association to open the Widget Installer.
works good so for, nice job.

It is a Windows Mobile "Widget"
MSDN Reference: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd721906.aspx
this is pretty sweet. too bad I almost dont use MySpace anymore.
running on my tilt, I had an issue; fonts are TOO big; and there is an issue that it does not take up all of the available screen like the other widgets do. the scroll bars are useless in winmo6.5.
great thing though. works very quick and loads images quickly too. it would be nice to be able to save images in it (for contacts) but that is probably asking too much. lol.
thanks. this will stay.

Do you guys know if there is a screen shot/capture feature on this phone. Im certain there is because I have accidently taken screen shots of web pages when I have been surfing using opera. Havent been able to work out how I did it though.
look up shakeandsave
or - if you're connected to a pc - just use mymobiler
BsB Tweaks also offer this functionality!
Isnt there built in functionality for that? There must be since I somehow managed to do it by accident.
Not that I'm aware of.
I have however stumbled upon a couple of screenshots, mostly used for thumbnails though. Dunno if that's the case?

do you use a custom-rom? maybe the romcooker added this functionality by himself?
BSB Tweaks has this functionality built in and it works flawlessly (even captures video screenshots).

No sir. Just the standard ROM.
Im 99% certain that its possible. 1% doubt as it only tends to capture the opera browser. Still, it proves that the functionality is definitely available.
