Progress on CM7 - Droid X General

Progress report on CM7 for the Droid X posted by cvps yesterday on Twitter:
"To all my DX friends, no boot anim yet but CM7 is booting enough to get into adb!"

Hopefully he gets that working i have always wanted Cyanogen because of all the extra features he implements, like the TV off Animation

If I get CM7 on my DX I foresee it being my last rom... well, at least until CM8 is out!!! lol

I think the appropriate response is..."if I get CyanogenMod on my DX then my head will explode"
I finally got a chance to play with CM7 on my wife's DInc last week and *MAN* is that a highly polished ROM...I'm trying to get her to ditch Sense (it's running Redemptive rEVOlution atm) and go ASOP just so I can keep playing it

That is awesome news!

Whats his twitter? I can't find it anywhere

@cvpcs should be it

Yesterday's Twitter updates from @cvps:
"CM7 booted on the DX? well i'll be... the new from-source sensors *mostly* work, boot process needs to be refined and usb service rewritten"
"that's just the start of things, but good things are happening "
"DX release should be expected in just a couple "when it's ready"s "
"my irc is #cvpcs on irc.freenode.net for those interested."

Thank You (but one last request)

Unfortunately, last week my Vogue finally broke after dropping it for the umpteenth time. I was looking around at some new phones but couldn't help to lose my beloved Android anymore, so I decided to get an HTC Hero
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has been working on the Vogue Android project right from the start. Martin, zenulator, msmission, Vilord and everyone else, really, thank you
I remember when the project first started, with the really old alpha Android builds, with the vertical app menu and mysterious GPS that kept blipping you on a freeway in California I enjoyed the project very much and will miss this.
That said, I do have one last request for you guys I was wondering if anyone could dump the wallpapers included in the recent 1.6 builds that zenulator had brewed up. I'm not sure if they are stock to 1.6 or maybe to Droid, but I would really like to get them on my Hero if possible
Thanks again everyone!

Wouldn't the wall papers be the ones from the Media folder in the base files? That's where I grabbed the ones I have in the build I use so I can have the same background in WM, and android.

Hey, how's it going?
Regarding JCXP, I don't have clue as to what happened to it or when (if) it's coming back, unfortunately.

There were some wallpapers included in the media folder, but those aren't the ones I'm looking for. I'm looking for the ones that were included right in the ROM. I know the default wallpaper was from the Droid (the grungy looking one), but the rest I'm not sure about.
There was the Droid background, an orange "bubbly" one, one that looked like a closeup of a plant, one of a bunch of water droplets, and so on...
Aha, found what I was looking for!

Is there a froyo port?

Hey guys,
I have been kind of out of the loop with the whole froyo port for the incredible. Is there one(a rom) currently being developed for this?
same here was coming to post the same thing any info?
no. but there is a search button! its super sweet.
Ill just wait for some one more informative to tell me.
Not yet.. Keep an eye on the dev section. Don't ask questions about it, but as soon as its out it will be all over the place.

Well...technically..
Cyanogenmod 6 is in the works currently. If you check their website they do make mention of the Incredible, though it doesn't exactly sound like the most promising thing ever. However, I believe since Koush ported 5.0.8 over to the DInc, it's fairly likely that he might port 6 over as well.
Cyanogenmod 6 is FroYo and since they opened the FroYo branch of the AOSP, things are looking good.
Check their website if you want to read all the juicy details for yourselves.

CM6?

While idling in #cyanogenmod, someone linked me to this: home.thisisnotajoke.com/CM6.zip
They said it was CM6 for nexus one.
Can someone verify this and possibly port it?
Thanks.
I can verify it. Cyanogenmod 6 is a cyanogen version of froyo, and was released as an alpha version for the N1.
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/home/cyanogenmod-6-progress
me and conap have had it for a few days already
i caught it the day it came out
we are working on a vendor tree though
A Cyanogen based Froyo Rom? *Drool* The version Kaos is working on is already quick, so is this one going to be telepathic or something? Seems new exciting things have been popping up more recently than they have in the past couple of few weeks. I can't wait!
sweet.....
can't wait for a full release FroYoCM +1,000,000 to first dev/team complete for eris =)

No Cyanogen on Droid X yet...I'm surprised.

Why haven't you guys got a CM7 port yet? I don't own a DX, but I got a cousin and I put that new GB rom on his DX a couple days ago. Anyways...have none of you heard of 2nd init? The Defy and..a couple other phones..have this boot menu made for them. One of the features in it it 2nd init. It has enabled full Cyanogen 7 Android 2.3.4 on it, and MIUI.
Cyanogen mod on the Defy is here and the 2nd init bootmenu is here. Porting of this shouldn't be that hard. Little changes to the scripts I would guess. I would look into it if you are wanting Cyanogen, MIUI, or any other roms that you can't flash without having an unlocked bootloader, or 2nd init.
To learn more about 2nd init, go here
Hmmm if I knew how to go about this I would definitely try it out. @aliasxerog on twitter has tried something like this before. Could you get in contact with him and see what he could do with this? Thank you for posting this and I really hope something could be done with this
I wish there were a cyanogen mod for the X, my son's cyanogen modded Optimus runs a Linpack (MFLOPS) score twice mine and he's got an ARM11 processor! at 800 MHz.
I also like the menu/screen better.

I don't disagree that in general what Cyanogen does is bring only the Google part of Android over and it shouldn't be that hard...but it seems to be.
Most of the ROMs out here do work 85% or more, but they are all a little buggy, camera doesn't work right or WiFi doesn't work or no GPS or phone reboots or can't shut off or SOMETHING....I know it's just a patch, but often it's a patch that never gets addressed. Cyanogen seems to address all of the issues - no hate on those building ROM's, but Cyanogen finishes the job. It may not be the best build with the most bling, but it's mostly raw Google with no bloat.
After removing the bloatware and giving the user a generic Android experience, the processor has more juice for other applications. Example, my sons Optimus runs 8.5 MFLOPS stock @ 600 MHz, the processor is an ARM11 processor which is actually built to 800 MHz so he upped the clock to 800 MHz and loaded cyanogen and he now has >30 MFLOPS...on an older CPU than my Droid X that only gives me 13.5 MFLOPS.
So while I agree in theory that Cyanogen isn't magic, I agree with the original poster that Cyanogen does a complete job and is worth getting.

1st.) Koush didn't make cynogen. Cynogen did. Koush made clockworkmod recovery
2nd.) To my knowledge, you are a relatively new developer. Cynogen has written a large amount of code in every aosp rom. If his rom sucks, why don't you compare download amounts?
I think maybe the great developers already moved on to a new phone? :/ Who knows.

That is very true. For example drod who made rubix has gone on to the thunderbolt like many others
cvcps was working on CM4DX, but it doesn't look as though he will finish since the build is for froyo. He mentioned it was somewhat of a long shot since gb is about to be released.
What would it take to get Cyanogenmod working with our DROIDX kernel?

What was the last ROM you made that was community maintained and supported 20+ devices? It's pretty special in that regard!
Pain-in-the-ass bootloader. I'm not surprised in the least. He works on putting his ROM onto way too many different devices to spend an inordinate amount of time on one device, with how fast new phones come out nowadays. It makes sense that Cyanogen never came to the DX.
I honestly think a CM7 could be in the works - but they're waiting on a final GB release.

It is and has been for a long time. It is being done by @cvps
The locked bootloader has made CM to the Droid X a huge hassle and CVPS has seen some success but nothing to get excited over

Do you guys want an updated ICS build, what kind?

Exactly what the thread title says...
As most of you should already be aware I have a gingerbread build that I try to provide something close to a monthly update on (plus or minus a few days). What I would like to know tonight is if y'all would like something similar with ICS?
Just like the gingerbread builds this won't have a lot of progression and I won't be trying to really create anything so much as compile y'all something (hopefully stable) to use if you so choose.
Assuming the answer to the first question is yes, do y'all have a preference for the build (cm9, aokp, etc)?
A release candidate of CM9 would be nice or if there's an ICS rom of ParanoidAndroid, then that would be great as well, I like having proper tablet UI for apps.
Has hash already updated his CM9 kernel?
ice cold sandwich by Lord Clocken From the HTC dhd trend is an aokp ice cold sandwich ,it has great features like kill all back button.

Every enhancement
the sg7 enhancement, linaro, supercharge, oc'ed kernal
and nothing else.
Base it on the least flashy ROM. I want to change, and add in things as I see fit, and I want the most basic version of android to do it from. I want it the fastest it can go, so all the enhancements and nothing else added in.
You can port sense rom to our Kindle???
All of the roms I have tried have these really annoying bugs. In the ROM I have now, the WIFI keeps dropping, even when i'm in the middle of a download.
If you guys can make a simple, stable ROM without all the bells and whistles (swipe left, themes, etc), that would make me (and a lot of other people) very happy.

With a little bit of tweaks I'm pretty sure we can use the newer JB kernel (they're both 3.y based but the newer one has the working charge indicator and screen driver.

This is sort of where I was already leaning; was considering basing something off of the loosethiskin builds that TWA was providing before cm10 but I wanted some opinions first as just like my cm7 rom I won't be the one running it (I'm using cm10 and it's going to remain that way)

No; others may be capable and or willing to do this. I personally don't touch binary ports; partly cause I don't want to and partly cause I don't know how to do binary ports (I haven't researched it do to the fact that I just didn't want to do it; source code for me)

I haven't experienced any of those issues but one thing I can point out is wifi issues are most likely kernel related; I'm most definitely not a kernel dev so anything I do will have something close to hashcodes current kernel (assuming it won't work as is)
Hi Sblood,
Funny, I was just thinking about this today, wondering if anybody that's capable is willing to take the time to do this. While I'm pretty much satisified with my JB rom, I really like ICS and I was very happy with twa_priv's CM9 builds.
I watch a lot of video from CNN and that's flash, the JB roms are finally giving me pretty good performance with this but I also like to watch video from ESPN and I haven't figured out a way to get that to work. With ICS, it prompts you to choose a player to watch the videos, like MX Player or Dice Player, with JB, it just tells me that the content is unavailable. That's probably the biggest thing I miss from ICS. I still keep a nandroid of twa's last CM9 release under a different gmail address and update any apps from Play Store every couple of weeks and then I OD on ESPN vids & Flash stuff, tonight I had 17 apps to update. LOL
For me, it's a tradeoff of JB Google Now for ICS ESPN vids and I'd rather have ESPN videos. So, if you could use twa's CM9 build as a base and hook in Hashcode's newer kernels, say on a monthly basis, that would be awesome & most appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike T

Sorry I've been busy and interest actually seemed much lower than I would have expected so it's been a somewhat lower priority.
I would still love to get it done (if for no other reason than we don't really have a stable/buildable version of ICS) but as it stands I've been having a few issues getting the ICS device repo updated to use the current kernel but I have been trying at least some.
I have to remind you it's the holiday season as well.
A good, stable, release candidate ICS ROM? I can see the appeal. I'd definitely give it a whirl. I'm starting to get tired of instability on a lot of ROMs.

You mean report bugs and stuff? Well, they wouldn't exactly be called bugs, more instability. For example, the android browser self closing itself every now and then.

That's a joke right; it's been 5 days since you asked this previously, it's still the holiday season and I haven't said anything in regards to something working so it must be I'm just not sure I get the humor in it...
Admittedly I probably shouldn't have created this thread til I had made some more progress but the goal was to find out if people were even interested in ICS in the first place. As I have stated this is still on my project list but let's be serious for a moment; how high of a priority do you really think back tracking to a previous version is? (I'll give you a clue: it's not).
I can tell you this; syncing cm9 and the old Kfire-Android local manifest for it doesn't build (and that's with the old kernel branch), it's not as simple as sync a bunch of folders and compile; I have to actually dig into the code of several repos to sort this out.
Lastly consider that my primary role is as a recovery dev; you know the term 'the plate is full', well I have a platter over here...
Not directly related but on the subject of recovery development; this is where most of my time has gone as of late.
I'd like to see an updated ICS but if it doesn't happen......oh well......I'll wait
.....when you hit the walls of sanity, you have no-where to go.....
Yea I'll wait too. And it was a joke. :c
How about a ROM with similar battery life as the stock Amazon one? Every custom ICS or JB ROM I have tried has not been awesome for battery life. Especially in sleep mode.
I'd like to see a honeycomb ROM that wold be pretty neat
