OK, I admit I am new to WinMo and the X2 but there is something with Contacts that I do not understand.
1. Why is it that only one work and one private email address per contact are possible? I am currently syncing with the Mac addressbook using The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile and several contacts have two work and two private email addresses. The funny thing is that only one of those work and one of the private email addresses are actually transferred to the X2. Is there a limitation with the WinMo Contacts in this respect?
2. More problematically, when I make a new email and wish to add a contact on the X2, a name and email are suggested while I am typing the name. So far so good. But, why is it that only one email address is suggested automatically for a person, even if there are two email addresses assigned to the contact in the phone addressbook? How can one alternate between those email addresses when typing a mail? So far, I have found no way but maybe I am missing something basic here.
As a point of comparison, both these issues do not happen with the Motorola Milestone under Android. I can have several work and private email addresses per person, and when I type a new email message, choice is given between all the email addresses of a given contact.
Thanks for help!
This issue is driving me nuts.
Is there nobody using the standard WinMo addresbook?
It's bill gates who says that people do not have more than one e-mail address (or mobile-phone numbers for SMS). One should be enough..
YEs, it's a stupid limitation of winmo that i can't understand why it's in this way..
Any other mobilephone-platform i have used works in the way you suggest..

Hello fellow users
Is there something like email to "Distribution List" or "Category" that I've assigned a whole bunch of Contacts to??
I have been using my T-Mobile MDA VARIO for several months now but still can't workout if there is a way to simply email using a POP3 email account to more than one recipient.

Interesting...I didn't realize the feature was missing until you pointed it out.
Here's a temporary workaround (don't have much time to sit and search for a freeware addon):
1. Create a new contact named as the group name you'd like to use (say "Development Team")
2. Enter all the e-mail addresses for your distribution list within the "e-mail" tag of this new contact, placing a semicolon ( ; ) between all addresses.
3. When you go to create a new email, enter the group name you just created and the email field should automatically fill with all the addressees (I tried with two, there may be a limitation)
glhs509,
Thanks for the TIP.
I've found there is a limit at 247 characters which works out at 6 - 7 email address' for me so not much scope for large distributions.
For more than 247 characters I've ...
1) on my PC created a temporary email to the distribution list
2) Expanded the name to show all email address
3) Copied into notes section of a new contact.
4) on my PPC I can sink the new contact and it just takes a copy and paste of the contact notes into a new email 'To' box.
Not great but a lot better than adding one at a time. So thanks
I would really like to sync my contacts with the distributions in outlook on my PC so if anyone knows how to, please fill us in
Hi Everybody,
I recently got TP2 rhodium. The 1st WM system for me.
I tried to use Outlook in a "natural" way but I found some simple things I can't do.
Explain.
I have 3 accounts in my phone:
- "Outlook", which is synced with my company PC via ActiveSync.
- A "work account", that I use to receive and send emails using my company ISP (i.e. [email protected]) when I am away.
- A "personal account", that I use to receive and send emails using my personal ISP (i.e. [email protected]) when I am away.
Everything works: Outlook sync, work send-receive emails, personal send-receive emails.
The most simple thing I expect I can do is:
1) I sync Outlook via Activesync. So I get an updated copy of my pc inbox/outbox in my TP2. Including emails I didn't read yet.
2) I go away, get in the inbox of my phone outlook account and read emails. There's one I need to reply immediately!
3) I reply to that email, but...
the reply goes into the outgoing box but it remains there. It will be sent the next time I'll sync, but it will be next week.
I didn't find a way to use one of the 2 other accounts to send that email from inside the "outlook account". It's a reply, so I have to write it inside that account.
The most natural thing would be:
- an option in the "from" field allowing me to use one of the two accounts
- send the email
- watch it going in the outbox of my "outlook account", so that it will be synced the next time.
in addition,
if I send an email from my "work account", it will go into its outbox, but I cannot move it to the "outlook account" outbox, so that it can't be synced when I connect to my pc!!
I suppose many people encountered the same problem.
I tried to search, but I couldn't find any.
Anyone can address me to a solution?
I thank you all in advance.
Hi..
Thats what i did in the past.. i sync emails so that i know which ones i need to reply... but found it a hassle at times...
why not try using pop3 directly? Jus save a copy of emails on server.... i pop as and when i need... but only my outlook in laptop downloads emails.. i find it better in sense i have contorl when i use outlook.. but thats jus me and my 2cents..
Hi chuachongchee,
I hope I'll find a straight way for you and for me to do what I mean.
I can't believe it is not possible to do such an elementary thing with an almost 600€ gear and a WM at its 6th release!!! And such a cool design !!
Do outlook mobile developers ever work away from their pc?
I am not good in WM software "handling", but a lot of people is, and I am sure someone has already solved this issue.
Just hope I'll find one...
hi asamax,
Just confirming that I have a similar problem that would be solved if I could change the "From" field in the outgoing message (as with your problem).
I also have done a lot of searching and found nothing yet.
I have found that its possible to write "plugin" apps for
tmail (aka Outlook mail for WM) but found none that allow the change of the "From" field - annoying!

Don't mind,
I am sure this will be solved.
Such simple change + Such evident miss.
Please skilled-xda-developers write an outlook hacked rev. allowing:
- choose the account in the email "from" field
- copy/move emails between different accounts folders
- some additional options for each accounts would be useful: default c/c and hidden c/c recipients.
the 3rd in the list allowed me to solve this issue in my old Nokia E70 (!!).
I just put a rule for incoming mail in my PC outlook: when I receive a mail in whic i am in hidden c/c AND in the from fields, move it in the sent items folder. But it was not a very clean way... I expect more from my brand new rhodium!!!
hi
I have google sync setup via ActiveSync exchange on me HD2 which works great.
only thing I can't get working is sending from another e-mail address that you can setup in your google account. outlook mobile doesn't let you change the from address but I have found it in the registry and changed it to my other e-mail address but when I send a mail it still shows as coming from googlemail address. Is this a exchange sever side setting or is there a way to get it to send from another email address. I would like this as it would save me adding all my accounts to Outlook mobile.
HD2 is so cool I have hardly used the laptop since getting it.
Thanks in advance if you can help.
Cheers
Dean
anybody any ideas on this one if not guess it's the long way round using other account to send smtp.
cheers

Overview: Known Limitations
Print
Google Sync for Windows Mobile is still in Beta. We're constantly working on improvements, but we've listed below some known limitations.
* Changing Order of Recurring Event May Remove From Device
If an instance of a recurring event is moved to the same day as the previous or the following instance of the same series, or if it is moved to occur before the previous or after the following instance of the series, the entire series will not be displayed on the device Calendar.
* Changes to Meeting Attendees on Device Aren't Synchronized to Server
If the list of invitees to a meeting is changed on the device, these changes will not be reflected on the server after synchronizing.
* Imported Recurring Events May Not Sync
If you've imported calendar entries from another calendar system into Google Calendar, you may find that only the first occurrence of the event is synchronized, or - in some cases - the event may not be synchronized at all. Recurring events created within Google Calendar will sync correctly.
*Calendar Invites via Gmail Forwarding or replying to Calendar invites in your Gmail inbox is not yet supported when using Google Sync for Mail.
* Apps Administrators: Learn how to enable Sync for your domain.
* Attachments Not Syncing: Google Sync is occasionally failing to properly process attachments. We are working on a fix that we hope to push soon.
* Custom From: Address: At this time Google Sync does not support custom "From:" addresses.

Hi,
same problem, but how would you do that manipulating-senderfield-thing with the other smtp-server? modify the smtp-server to replace [email protected] with [email protected]??
I've manage to come to a satisfactory solution staying with gmail...
I have set my other email addresses to forward all mail to gmail, so that I receive them through push. When I answer, as mentioned the e-mail originates from the gmail address. It doesn't bother me so much so far, I've set the From name to My Name (mobile), so people know why it might show up differently.
The real problem was when they answer, obviously only gmail will receive the answer, while I'd like to have it in my normal inbox as well for archival. So I've set filters on gmail so that all mail sent to "my gmail address" and containing "my normal address" (should be the case as they initially wrote the mail to it, which shows up in the included original message when replying, except for those few senders who don't include original message in replies) gets forwarded to my normal address.
If you only have one "normal" address you could just do an unconditional forward, but I preferred having gmail sort my 3 addresses correctly.
Yes this theoretically leads to an infinite loop (when gmail forwards to my normal server, the latter will forward again to gmail as it does this with every message it receives, etc), but gmail servers are clever and ignore it.

Could you eleborate on how you set those filters, I was looking for the same solution.
See below. Sorry for French gmail, but you should be able to find your way
the .ch address is one of my normal addresses, the gmail one is... well, the gmail one. I have one such rule for each of my normal addresses.
There are a few issues I have found inherently wrong with the e-mail client. I'd like see some support on these issues. Please feel free to add to this and comment on it as you see fit. I am aware of Touchdown and I'm not satisfied with it as a solution.
1 - The ability to move messages to specific Outlook folders.
2 - E-mail forwarding: Forwarded e-mails are attached as .eml files instead of in-line forwarding. This is not only awkward but can cause problems if your are forwarding an e-mail to someone who can't view attachments.
3 - Lack of Corporate global address look-up.
4 - Integration with Outlook invitations. The ability to accept or decline invites is not available.
5 - Signatures.
6 - Push inbox does not refresh without having to manually refresh or new data is received. If a new message is marked as read in outlook, it will not be marked as read in your mail client via push. This a problem because if you read an e-mail on your PC, your phone won't know and still notify you as having a new message.

I'm with you on all 6 of these issues. They are major problems and severely limit the usefulness of this phone in an enterprise environment.
#2 is just absolutely absurd and probably the biggest reason why I paid for TouchDown. The fact that I had to pay for basic corporate email functionality on this phone is pretty upsetting.
Touchdown fixes many if not all of those issues plus it adds calendar and tasks.

I'm actually tired of people telling me that Touchdown is the solution. I HAVE touchdown, but it doesn't fix issue #6 nor am I really happy with the UI/GUI in Touchdown. It's a bit "cartoonish" looking if that makes any sense.
The point is, these are all features that the native client should have.
Exactly, thank you.
I actually have more issues:
1. Not able to sync emails over a month old
2. Mail Client does not work correctly with Mail2web account (client reads Trash folder as inbox and notifies me of new emails)

Thanks. Keep them coming.
I refuse to believe that Google cripples its mail client because they want people to adapt gmail in a corporate structure. That would be very Steve Jobs like.

Now that I think about it, I have some more to add as well:
1. "Reply to all" includes your email address in the "to" (i.e. if I get an email that was sent to me and 5 other people, my reply to all will also be sent to me - I have to manually delete my e-mail address). This is an issue in Touch Down as well.
2. Attachments. I had a ton of attachment issues with the native client. I couldn't open a lot of them (would just fail) or couldn't even click to download.
I'm having a bit of an issue when it comes to signatures with the Microsoft Exchange sync.
When I reply or reply all to an e-mail message using my Microsoft Exchange account on my G2 my signature isn't appended to the message. However if I create a new e-mail on my G2 using Microsoft Exchange then the signature is appended to only that newly created e-mail.
Is there a setting that I need to look at in the phone or would this be something in the Exchange server itself?
For my exchange account (using Outlook) that is the default. Sig on new messages, no sig on replies. You can change that in the Outlook settings, and, my guess, is that change will become global, and work in OWA and on the Android.
Probably the easiest thing to do would be to use a computer to log into your OWA, and change it there. Then it should also be changed for Android, since all Android mail is is a front end for OWA.
Edit: I see what you mean is the signature that you add in Android, such as "Sent from my mobile."
It seems that they made the mistake of only appending sigs to new messages. This is stupid, as usually you want to reply with such a sig, so people know why you are not being detailed in your reply. There are third-party email apps like Touchdown that do this, but it seems like a glaring omission in their Activesync / Exchange support.
