[Q] Dev Phone boards - G1 General

So I ended up with a big box of g1 parts and it included 2 boards that are 1.0 but are very different from the regular android os, it includes all kind of HTC icons for testing purposes....from the research I done it leads me to believe that these belonged to the dev phones,
From what I understand, these are unlocked and "rooted" from the factory....
Please school me,
1.Do they have any inherit value?
2. any reason not to install another rom on them?
3. Will the unlock feature stay put when the rom is changed?
Thanks in advance!

[Q] HTC Dream - Android Dev build

Hi all,
I am new to XDA so apologies if this is in the incorrect section. I want to learn about Android basically from scratch as I've no experience in this area at all. I've managed to get my hands on a HTC Dream (Android Dev Phone). However I lent it to a friend for a while so he could try out the platform (this is actually a true story). He's given it back to me now but sadly before he gave it back to me he flashed the phone to the incorrect image. It's been flashed to a T-Mobile G1 image. My understanding is that I can reflash it back to the Android Dev build from the bootloader if I can find the correct image and save to the SD card and then do a recovery. It is definitely an Android Dev phone as it was given to me from friend who works with Google. Has anyone had this problem before and can point me in the right direction?
Lastly is there a good instructional manual on Android that I can buy in a book form so I can highlight parts or should I just stick to what's available online?
Thanks in advance.

this is my first andriod but i use wp for along time.
what's the first thing to know about root and customize rom
My ss is GT-P1000 it lock any suggest
Android is open source code, so anyone can modify it as they like. There are tons of apps and the apps are easy to write if you want that.
But at some point you want to do things that the operating system denies, so you need to gain root permission from your system.
Note: you don't have to root, unless you can't do what you need with your device.
You can go a long time and do many fabulous things with the stock rom, so you don't have to customize your rom either.
Take it slow, this is probably the most expensive device to start experimenting with.
I think it's fairly simple to tweak, but there are thousands of "help, I've broken my precious. . " in these forums.
First of all, welcome to XDA
Here's some reading material to get you started....

I agree with rangercaptain & conantroutman, read and then if uncertain, read again. It takes a few minutes to recheck something but may take hours or be impossible to recover if you do something wrong.
I like to root my device as it opens up a lot of different options but you need to check if you can do this.
Also, check if your bootloaders are locked as this may need to be rectified as well as network lock.
You are saying your gtab is an SGT-P1000. This is a GSM tab. It uses sim cards to use the phone functions. If you wish to flash a new rom, make sure its a GSM rom as the cdma and wifi roms will brick your device.
Use the links conantroutman gave you, this may lead to more reading. Its SO much better when you ask a question to show you have done some reading as you will get more help.

[Jul 6] [Q] Reverting completely back to stock?

Hey guys I used to be in the HD2 scene, but sold mine and to make a long story short, I'm back. I bought a HD2 running Android, but I want to get it back to the original out of the box state so I have a blank slate to go off of. Its a tmo HD2, but I dont really know where to find a TMO rom, if its 512/1024, what radio I have, etc etc.
So where do I start??
I donĀ“t know how many times that very question has been asked in this forum. It feels like hundreds of times.
A TMOUS HD2 is easily recognizable through colored buttons for start/end call (green and red), while other versions are just white. Also, through your serial, you can try to find out on htc.com if you can download a stock ROM there.
There is a special TMOUS ROM section, you can download the ROMs there. Or directly from TMOUS support. All other ROM can be easily found in the other ROM section. Just read a bit: For virtually everything else, some efforts from you are required, and you will easily find what you need.
Just to add, There is no reason for you to add teh date to topic, That is for dev releases. We have no need to know the date of your topic.

[Q] Why Unlock/Flash new ROM?

Hello all, two quick questions as I'm new to the WP7 community. While I've flashed more than my fair share of roms on several Android phones, I've never dug very deep into the WP7 community. Today I picked up the Focus to see if I like WP7 until the Lumia comes out for AT&T, and am just seeing what to do.
1) Does an unlock ONLY allow other SIM cards, or is there a need for this, much like rooting an Android device?
2) What is the benefit of flashing a new rom? With Android, I'm used to several different interfaces, skins, themes and versions. With WP7 as far as I know, there is only the original and Mango (7.5) available. So why flash a new rom?

1) SIM unlock unlocks the phone to use for different carriers (NCK code). Developer unlock (Chevron, Windowsbreak project etc) unlocks the phone for homebrew and allows sideloading.
2) intrinsic: many tweaks included

[Q] Which Android port is the most stable for HTC HD2?

Hi Friends!
I have had experience in the past with iPhone's and iOS, but now I am putting some hands at Android phones.
Actually, I have a HTC HD2 with a poor operating system, which is Windows... I want to port Android there, and my question is, which one of the Android OS is the most stable in this phone. I know there are various versions of Android available for the HD2, but I am looking for the Android that will perform flawlessly and is the easiest to port (straightforward, using tool, not coding), I don't want to put my head in danger on the first attempt.
Which of the Androids works best on HTC HD2, and what tools do I use to make the port for that particular OS version.
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards
PS: provide me with direct links please!
IMPORTANT: by default this phone was factory locked to T-Mobile US, now I am using it outside the us in another country, but I did not perform anything on it to change the radio settings, the person that gave me the phone has unlocked it...If I port Android to this phone will it risk the radio settings (I would not like the lose the possibility of using it with other carriers), or porting Android does not mess with the radio at all...
For future reference, what type of Driver/Tool is required to have installed so the phone can interact with computer?

If you used the search tool or Google you could have easily found 100+ threads about the best ROM.
I would say use a CM7 or MIUI ROM. There are tonnes, don't be lazy, I CBA to post links (yes, that is very hypocritical of me).
As far as I know Android won't mess with your carrier stuff
To install just download the HD2 NAND Toolkit, install HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM then ROM (see this guide).

I tend to understand that he wants to PORT and not INSTALL an Android ROM. Isn't that correct?
If that is what you are asking then Gingerbread non-sense is currently the easiest to port. you can use the kitchen found within the development forum.

I wasn't too sure, but I assumed that the use of the word 'port' was simply a misunderstanding, in the same way that many people say that they have 'flashed' an SD Android build.
@OP, If I was wrong then I take back what I said about not searching and stuff cos this is clearly not something heavily discussed and there isn't as much information available about it.
In my experiance hyperdroid cm7 has good speed stability, and battry life. This is a minimal rom with not a lot of fluff. If you like iphone fluff i would suggest ndt miui stable, miui has iphone simple fluff with andorid power, while cm7 has extended power user features like cpu controll built in.
to learn how to do this look for a newbie thread. They walk you form stock with being locked down to android and unlocked for flashing new roms.
I would go for hyperdroid it's fast and stable.
