[Q] No data connection when switching between gsm and wcdma - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello!
I'm using Rafdroid HD von my HD2 now for 2 weeks and I'm verry happy with it, i just have one problem (dont know if it depends on de android build or on the hd2 or whatever...)
I'm using gsm all the time because it has less battery drain in stand by, but when i want to use data for surfing etc. i switch to wcdma. on my x8 wich i had before this was no problem, it switched within seconds between the networks. Also the HD2, BUT it doenst start a data connection. i just can talk but no data.
in "wireless and network" the option for wireless data is checked, but the whole option is not clickable and it says "starting" (dont know if it says starting, i use the german version, there it say "einschalten..."
when i restart the hd2 then the data connection is working. so all times when i want to switch the data connection i need to restart my hd2.
is there a way to solve this problem?
sorry, i've searched the forum, but i haven't found anything
thanks and best regards, chris

No one who knows something about this issue?

tried this yet??
enter: *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer
go to phone info
go all the way down
now you can manually switch between edge or 3G
(default should be WCDMA preferred)

Thank you, I've foudn this idea before but it doenst change anything.
I'm using the whole day only gsm/edge, but when i need more data (searching something on google etc.) i would like to switch to 3g. after this, back to wcdma. on my x8 this worked well, on the hd2 it looks like it cant start the data connection when switching between the two types of network...

how to force internet connection to use 3G/HSDPA only?

is there a program to do that for windows mobile? so that the connection wont fall back to gprs or edge and always use 3G or hsdpa?
in sierra wireless aircard there is an option to set that.
i think there's an option in setting, personal, phone
go to band tab and change network type to WCDMA and change band to UMTS
it works but now phone call also using the 3G network always. how to set only if making data call?

If you want to do this band change easyly, can use the tools on
this post, if you want the phone change band smartly, better you flash a good WM6.5 ROM.
Check more info on this thread.
i have a similar question but it is related to forcing the phone to switch from 3G to HSDPA mode when active data transfer occurs..
thanks..

Help!! Turn off 3G or Edge on touch 3g

I got a new HTC touch 3g from Asia and have frustrating problem. On ATT network in US, when the call network switches between 3G and Edge the phone network becomes zero ( no bars) and the calls drop.
This is extremely annoying as the ATT network continuously changes from 3g and edge when driving/walking. Is there anyway to switch off 3g/edge because I don't have a data plan and I don't use the phone for internet.
Or is there a way to force it to be only edge?
Any help would be great!
do a search for nodata.cab, it's originally form the Modaco forum but i've seen it over here too, works great!
Thanks! Downloaded and changed the settings in nodata.
Any ideas how I can test that this works? I still see "E" next to the phone bars.
Thanks a lot.
I think this is no solution: NoData only stops data-connections and does not affect the connection-band that is used for communication with the base-stations of the network (for speaking and data). Your problem are the calls not the data connection that you do not use, IMO.
Try this: "Start/Settings/Telephone/Band" (translated from German). There you can preselect the Band(s) that is (are) used for communication globally.
Thanks. I don't have anything called "Band".
I tried using Bandswitch...has anyone tried it?

This sounds good, I do not know the exact English nomenclature because I have a German version. What type of network is displayed next to phone bars now?

Mobile data problems

Ok, Ive always had crappy 3g on my x10 but i put it down to signal issues, i thought i was in a poor 3g area.
I noticed whilst playing around in the settings that i could set the phone from WCDMA only, whereas before it was GSM with WCDMA preferred.
This sorted the problem out perfectly, great 3g performance even with crappy signal, the problem is that for some reason this means when there is no 3g signal it doesnt just fallback to GSM for voice.
From what i have read on the net it seems like changing to WCDMA only should -only- affect the data connection, not the phones voice connection.
Am i doing something wrong?
Is there a way that i can force the phone to use 3G only for data, but still use GSM for voice?
Thanks
in that case you should set the settings to like this 1. wireless controls 2. mobile network 3. network mode "WCDMA" then 4. network operator then search network tap the available current network what u r using do not select the automatically 5. done
after that turn off the phone remove the simcard for 5 sec. then turn on again wala u have 3 to 4 signals on ur 3g connection....

ouch, seriously doubt that's possible on the x10
maybe deleting the 3g APN or creating a blank one and just selecting the right mms one
Isn't MMS dependent on data?

It is but you can create 2 APNs one for data and one for MMS and after enable/disable the data APN on case by case needs
At least i think it works on rogers because i saw separate settings for MMS only.
I am confused too. Hohoho... But as I remember, previous phones (such as X1,X2,p990) did have this options. Correct me if I am wrong. Because I always connect internet/browsing using wifi. Except mms.

[FIX]Signal Drops / Bad Reception / Battery Drain Issues with Nand Android

Well after many searches and a lot of trial and error, I think ive finally solved my problem of dropped/no phone signal for NAND builds, which in turn has also made my battery life way better since the phone is no longer constantly searching for signal Basically its 4 steps, ive tried each individually with no changes but for some reason when applied all together it works wonders. They are as follows:
1: dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and choose 'gsm auto PRL'
2: go to settings>mobile networks and check 'use only 2g networks'
3: go to settings>wireless networks>wifi>advanced and change wifi sleep policy to 'never'
4: go to app store and download "wifi keep alive" (free). choose wifi behavior 'always on' and advanced options 'enable workaround 2'
using these 4 steps i reduced my time without signal from 74% to 12% in 16 hours, and im getting 4-5 green bars all the time, at home and work hope this helps
I'm not an expert, but doesn't that mean you are stuck in 2G-Mode for Data Transfer? I believe 3G if available would be faster..... or am i wrong?

yeah, it stays in 2g for data but for me its an acceptable trade off to actually be able to recieve calls. plus you can always switch 3g back on if you plan on doing something that uses a lot of data and switch it back off when youre done
damm i was excited until i saw that you have to disable 3G
Is this a common problem?
or... you could just go to settings/wireless&networks/mobile networks and change the network mode to gsm only (which is 2g) so, same thing.. and you know what? i still have signal issues, just not as bad..

yea i think that option is only on Desire or froyo builds, on all of the GB's ive used it says 2G. i suppose its not gonna work for everyone, it probably still depends on your coverage area, but it definately helped me A LOT. ive been using these settings for the past 3 days and my time without signal has dropped down to 0-5% from the 55-75% it was before, and im no longer missing calls
very useful tips
I ticked the "Use 2G only" checkbox in my wireless settings and all connection problems seem to be gone! (for now)... My data connection used to be terrible... voice connection shaky.
Thanks a lot!

[Q] Signal Issues//Android//T-Mobile USA

Hey all yes I am a newbie, but I have been using roms for a quite a while I love the customization of the HD2, we are switching services in a couple weeks to either Verizon or US Cellular but this issue is bugging me like crazy, I used to be able to use my phone in the parking lot at my job, we arent allowed to leave on break, used to get 2-3 bars and an Edge signal, in a place Tmobile says I should have great coverage over the last couple days I have gotten no signal what so ever in the same place I used to use my phone every single day for about a year. I sit there for my whole break trying to talk to my wife while refreshing networks, auto selecting it or manually gives me 4 full bars and an edge signal then it all goes away. I guess why I am posting it to see if anyone has suggestions to what I can do to fix it. The phone works fine at home and on the road just not near work anymore. I have always used different roms, and never had the issue at all, always full task 29 wipes, my current build is
CyanogenMod Version PARANOIDDROID
Kernel 2.6.32-ics_tytung_HWA_r2.4_uniMAC [email protected] #272
Baseband 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14
Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you again! Jake
I well ask a obvious question, have you checked your APN's. I knowyou are getting a data signal but maybe one of the APNsettings need to be changed.
Also do you have you checked in Settings/Mobile network/Network mode. See if you have WCDMA only, GSM only, or WCDMA/GSM auto.

Thanks for the response, my only APN is epc.tmobile.com and I cannot locate the network mode... No network mode setting that I can find.
Edit:: Found it its set to WCDMA Preferred is that what it should be?

Try WCDMA/GSM auto that way your device can switch back and forth as needed between WCDMA or GSM as it needs to.
