Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for Desire Z - G2 and Desire Z General

Seems the Desire HD and Desire Z would be the first phones at the Desire
series which get an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread:
A HTC representative confirmed that the phones would be upgrading to Gingerbread during our natter at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but he wouldn't provide exact dates. We did manage to get HTC's man to say that the first Gingerbread update would be released within a month of the Desire S hitting shop shelves, but then he changed his mind and said it would probably occur within two months.

It is as per claims from HTC during MWC or CES forgot which one. Still, the Desire tops the list on Techradar as best phone out, beating the likes of the iPhone, Samsung and the HD itself, and its their most popular device by far I reckon.

Probably they won't update the old Desire. The DHD will get the same software as the Desire S because they are essentially the same hardware apart from some mild differences.

No it dosent, the desire had dual touch, it can only physically detect one touch, it uses a software algorhytm to work out the location of the 2nd finger, this leads to axis flipping, meaning you cant cross axis's making it useless lol

GREAT news! indeed ! hope there are no more delays!
This is really great news hope everyone to get the update at the same time not like 1.84 update....some dhd owners got it some of us didn't.
Not going out to gingebread in late March??
About time, was wondering when this would come out.
And let's hope there are no major flaws in the update Else would that be a bummer...
+1 for hoping it includes the new sense unlock screen!
So, what are you think, is it be better or worse than CM7?

Desire HD apparently getting theirs OTA now. Surely ours should not be far behind.....Surely?
What it means when ours is released is hopefully rmk40 will release an official virtuous 2.0 rom. It might also move us closer to the point where they release the kernel source and we can start seeing overclocking kernels for Gingerbread sense roms. (and trackpad wake etc)
According to Engadget:
"That just leaves the Desire Z and original Desire, both of which should be joining the party by the end of June. "
So more or less two months later. No matter, maybe they will make even more fixes and changes for us. (Maybe a version of Sense 3.0 for our "weaker" phones - but I doubt that)

Given the track record with everyone involved regarding prompt releases (Google, T-Mobile), it'll be at least November before it's actually available. How many months were us old Dream users waiting on Cupcake? Donut? Eclair (which turned out to be vaporware for the Dream)?

HTC Legend definitely not receiving Android 2.3

I contacted HTC to ask if we will get the 2.3 update:
Will the HTC Legend receive the Android 2.3 update?
HTC replied with the following:
Thank you for contacting HTC.
No, the HTC Legend will not be receiving the Gingerbread update. Android 2.3
I noticed that a lot of people were wondering if we were going to get Android 2.3 or HTC Sense 3.0, so I thought I'd contact them myself.
I hope this clears up any mess

No, basically HTC have lied once again, to the Desire owners this time. Tbh I've lost all faith in HTC, I quite like my Legend still now that it is rooted, but next year when my contract runs out I'll get a different Android phone, possibly a Samsung or a Google Nexus phone depending on what's around at the time.
Everyone seems to be forgetting about htc developer site, im pretty sure its going to be quite like Android Source with teh ability to build from source like Cyanogenmod?!

Yeah, they were being lazy (or deceiving) when they said INITIALLY that the Desire was not receiving Gingerbread. Two days later, they must have realized this or someone must've pointed out their lie by analyzing specs on their current generation phones, because they decided to pump Desire with Gingerbread once more.
Stupidity, stupidity.

I personally love the speed of it. But in my opinion, I think that the stable version isn't exactly stable. I keep getting random reboots and right now, my Messages Application won't open :/
And that's one reason why I sold my Legend to my brother, little or no updates in the OS version from HTC.
I prefer sense to be honest, Dont like any launcher apart from rosie as nothing compares to it!
this really doesn't surprise me, newer models are out. So HTC would be 'forcing' you to get a newer phone

Personally I don't care about newer versions of Android on Legend. There's no feature in 2.3 or later that would significantly enhance my productivity compared to 2.2 or 2.1. I think I can use my Legend as is at least for the next year or so.

By that time I wonder most DHD users have switched to new device having ICS preinstalled. Anyway DHD can get ICS update is a bonus of this 2 years old device. ICS is a little bit too slow to push out. Most software developers have still need more time to release software compatible to ICS.

Don't worry about that, the internet is a huge vortex of fake celebrity nude pictures, so at least one person is going to having suspicion about the authenticity of your screenshot. I don't think he meant any offence. Now, back on topic. I'm really looking forward to this update, hopefully it will include the new, 40% faster, adreno drives. The lack of developers have come as a shock to he DHD community over the last few days, due to everyone migrating to the HTC 1x. I will start developing for our humble device when this is released. It makes all of our lives easier, I wont have to worry about the camera bug and everything will be working smoothly. I think the wait is worth it guys and gals, just remember, patients is a virtue.

In example: i was a galaxy s (sold because i LOVE sense) user and the developers activity around a device older than desire hd was/is totally different: is like if the interest around that device will never die.

Why, by you DHD users, we are left alone by developers?
