Sup guys, I've got a following problem, basically when I connect my Galaxy 3 to USB port Odin detects is as COM3, however this is when phone is turned on, then when I switch device off and proceed to download mode (power + home + vol+), Odin doesn't detect the phone. I do have Kies and drivers installed, anyone can think of what might be wrong?
EDIT:
Also when I press power + home + vol- combo, Odin doesn't detect device either.
when your phone is off, try power button + vol+ + home button.

Hmm, thanks for the hint but "Forced upload" doesn't work either.
make sure kies isn't running, check the processes to make sure, then open odin and try. A few attempts at recognition might be needed and is not uncommon

Just as you said, I checked running processes and Kies is not running. Device still isn't recognised by Odin.
Also I have't said that before but when I said that phone is detected by Odin when turned on, is when I set USB to Modem by calling *#7284#, otherwise when I set it to PDA, Odin doesn't even detect the device when turned on, neither when off.
Could it be because of my old computer operating system? (Windows XP Professional SP 3 32Bit)

Ahh... I tried this aswell but without any result, I guess, I'll have to wait for offical Froyo via Kies, unlucky heh.
EDIT:
Is there any other Firmware flashing solution for Galaxy 3 or just Odin?

What are you running currently?
simply honey 3.6..... gingerbread
By chance did you forget to enable usb debugging?
idk, i flashed from a 2.2.1 rom to simply honey 3.6 through rom manager, but i did have it enabled through before i flashed for sure.... And usb debugging is not required for download mode as (i think) thats a whole different thing???
It needs to be enabled to use Odin. Also, sometimes for Odin to see my phone I have to unplug my phone and open Odin a few times before I finally get Odin to see my phone. It's very finicky for me, always has been

Go into windows device manager. Make sure that your computer is even seeing the device and that it has recognized the drivers for it. If it recognizes it, try rebooting computer then restart the process. Also make sure your phone is actually in DOWNLOAD mode. Not Recovery mode.
If you do not know the difference between the two, let us now and we'll assist further.
Happy hacking!
I use to always have trouble with Odin..then one day someone mentioned they always right clicked on Odin and chose "run as Administrator", I have never done that because I figured I was the administrator....but once I did it, never had a problem since.
Another problem I run into (well not anymore) is the USB port I plugged into. If I was on a hub or something it wouldn't work. If I plug right into my computer it works properly.
I also use adb commands to get into download and recovery when I'm Odin'ing. It also let's me know if my phone is detected by the OS.
#adb devices (should show your phone listed)
#adb reboot download (reboots your phone into download mode)
#adb reboot recovery (reboots your phone into recovery mode)
You'll need the SDK installed for adb to work.
Since I started doing these things, I have had ZERO problems with Odin and flashing my phone.
ay.. usb debuging was enabled before i flashed... now if my turn turns on it goee onto a bootloop... so everytime i cinnect my phone to the computer it says device not recognised. ohh and one thing to mention is that my computer doesnt have a highspeed usb port
Three button to download mode - power+vol up+vol down and see if you can get it into download mode then plug in usb (1.0 should work), then run odin...
otherwise i think you're looking at trying to make one of those jigs or replacing your phone...
try
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Afaik the three button combo is for
Recovery mode. Follow the above directions up to the power button part. While holding both volume buttons, it should go directly into download mode when the usb us plugged in
Try removing all drivers then reinstall if xp doesn't pick it up
Beware of angry gingerbread man
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
Install samsung kies mini. It gives you the correct drivers. I once installed those and it messed it up. So install kies mini.

Greetings all
Apologies in advance for being a total noob, but I have looked all over the place and not seen a solution to the following:
Having recently replaced my Spica with an S II, I thought I'd try rooting/flashing my old phone.
1) With USB debugging enabled, the device is visible in Keis. I'm using 32-bit Win 7 and everything looks correct under Device Manager. When I turn off Keis and try switching to Odin (v4.03), the phone isn't detected and it seemingly fails to install drivers. Device Manager shows unhappy "SAMSUNG Android USB Modem" and "SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device". I tried using NPS and that basically said go away, I'm too old. I can run a repair in Keis and it's OK until I fire up Odin, which kinda puts me into a faulty driver loop.
2) If I'm understanding this correctly, I need JC3 and above, in order to move to Froyo and above using LeshaK's 2,2 kernel. My current firmware states that it's 2.1 update 1 and the baseband is I570EXXJC1.
Any ideas please on getting the USB talking happily? (Yes, I have tried different ports etc). Also would I need to "flash up" to the later 2.1 and then go from there? The JC3 has me a little confused as the closest thing I see to this is the baseband version.
Many thanks to everyone who may be able to decipher my probs and come back with suggestions.

Once you have installed Kies (so Samsung drivers are present on your computer), you need to connect the phone in download mode.
If I'm not wrong, with the the phone powered off and the USB unplugged, press Vol down + Camera + Power, the phone will start on download mode, then you can plug your USB (to both, PC and phone), and you should see it deteceted in ODIN (a COM port is assigned to it).
Once you flash Leshak's 2.2, you can apply other updates (even gingerbread alphas) from recovery menu (Vol down + Hung up + Power).
Hope this helps.
Do not hesitate to ask further questions if needed.
I am trying to root my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (well actually i would like to install a new rom and recovery) , but i am running into a problem.
Odin3 (v1.85) only finds my phone when i am not in the recovery mode (or the sideload to be precise), adb on the other hand is able to to do sideload but the loaded images fail with "Wront footer" and "verification failed".

If you have KIES installed it doesn't play nice with Odin, remove KIES or kill all KIES processes and try again.

No problem,
i actually installed the "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones" Pack after removing Kies and doing the reboot stuff.
Still don't get the device via odin.
Maybe i will remove all the drivers and try the CWM Driver again.

I tried different Ports (USB 2 and 3), different Cables and different drivers.
Removed Kies3, tripple check that debugging is on and recovery lock is off.
Still, Odin finds the device when it is not in recovery mode (sideload),
Was another user who had the same problem had to use another PC, I'm struggling to think of what may be the cause.
I had also the sane problem. I also tried all ports on my PC but did not work. I installed KIEs on my Laptop and it worked. I could flash the CWM recovery.

I did this on a new computer that never saw an Android device before.
Odin does not detect my device despite following this advice and the one before.
I installed Kies, made my device known to the Windows Device Manager, rebooted, connected device while in sideload-mode and waited until detection was finished. The next step was firing up Odin3 v1.85 and my device didn't show up, but i was able to use the adb sideload which failed with "Verification Error" when installing a new recovery or rom.
Could it be that the phone being branded by T-Mobile Germany changed the game even though the model is just plain SM-N9005 ?
Is there another option to root this device or preferably install some other rom without Odin?
Never ran into so much trouble with my Asus eeePad, the Samsung I9000 or the HTC One X.

Well when stupidity strikes you...
I always went into the recovery rom (Vol+ & Power & Home) instead of going with the odin mode (remove battery, power device on with Vol- & Home & Power).
Thanks everyone who tried to help me, but you were no match to my blindness ^^
Maybe this might help someone who utilizes the search function after he or she didn't read the tutorials carefull enough.

It's always the simplest things
Seems I've hit the jackpot, my phone's a potato. I had just installed king of nougat v9 and it worked fine until I rebooted into recovery by holding the power button and selecting recovery. At first it was in a boot loop and wouldn't open recovery or get recognized by odin, I read somewhere here to disconnect the battery so I opened the back cover and disconnected it which apparently ****ed the phone a step further now it's dead unless it's connected to a power source and after disconnecting it stays on samsung logo/download mode for a bit then dies.
On my old rom it was working fine except for the fact that I couldn't connect the phone to pc as storage, and it couldn't recognize usb devices I plugged in using the adapter. I took the phone to a repair shop and they said they replaced the micro usb assembly and it still didn't show up on odin, then a few days later they said it's a problem with the power IC and they replaced that then the guy said it worked once on odin then stopped again.
Idk what to do lol, phone's bricked or should I try a different repair shop incase these were idiots.
note: it says device descriptor request failed when connected to pc
Have you tried to reboot to the bootloader by holding down the power button, home button and volume down when your phone is at the android logo?

Then it means you must install Samsung drivers, so that the computer would recognize your phone. Try downloading smart switch or kies and that should also install the drivers.

"device descriptor request failed when connected to pc" sounds like a windows problem not android. You can check in the "computer management" device manager to see if the phone is recognized. I am going to assume not.
Try this link for possible solutions. https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledg...ice-descriptor-request-failed-for-windows-10/

I haVe tried EVERYTHING TO GET ODIN to recognize s5... IT DOES NOT SHOW UP
All drivers are fine... shows up on my computer running vista... i can access files on phone and sd card BUT NOT ODIn
I downloaded different versions of Odin and it did not work. I install drivers reinstalled install k i e s also I unchecked and check debugging and it did not work why doesn't Odin recognize my phone what else can I use to root if Odin does not work
I have read about this and I cannot seem to find the answer I have installed reinstalled drivers Kies different cables everything the cables work because I can access my phone SD card and read the files on my computer but Odin does not recognize my S5 what am I doing wrong or what can I use instead of Odin to root my phone
You need to put the phone in download mode.
Power off your Samsung phone, press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power keys at the same time.
Release all three buttons when Samsung phone reboot and you see a warning sign.
Press Volume Up to enter the main screen of Recovery mode.
