is there any way to use the ## commands on a rooted phone or do I have to un root to get that function again
Myn 2.2
depends on who's rom your using. If you are running myns rom you need to go to /sdcard/warm_2.2_optional and install sprintZone.apk
Don't think the sprint zone has anything to do with this. If you are on sense and your espt apk is in tact you should be good.

Yes I'm on myn 2.2. Y'all both posted. Apk where I'm I able to download these @?
I tried. *2 and it didn't work
I need the # commands for a number change
If you're talking to me, the sprintzone apk is already on your sdcard. its in /sdcard/warm_2.2_optional if for some reason its not there let me know and I'll post it.

After you press the commands, hit the call button. I've had this work when it doesn't automatically initiate.

to the best of my knowledge it should work, but go ahead and test before calling sprint. Dial ##3282# and see if you get the EPST screen.
EDIT: just checked, I did have to hit the call button to bring it up, so its ##3282# Call for EPST

Hey, just thought it would be a good idea to keep an updated list of the PRLs for sprint for our HTC Evo if you choose to opt out of OTA or otherwise just need to revert to an older PRL or something.
Here is some general PRL info:
PRL Definition - (Preferred Roaming List)
The PRL is a list of information that resides in the memory of some kinds of digital phones. It lists the radio frequencies the phone can use in various geographic areas.
The part of the list for each area is ordered by the bands the phone should try to use first. Therefore it's a kind of priority list for which towers the phone should use.
The PRL helps determine which home-network towers to use, and also which towers belonging to other networks to use in roaming situations (areas where the home network has no coverage.) When roaming, the PRL may instruct the phone to use the network with the best roaming rate for the carrier, rather than the one with the strongest signal at the moment.
Since a PRL tells the phone "where" to search for a signal, as carrier networks change over time, an updated PRL may be required for a phone to "see" all of the coverage that it should, both with the home network and for roaming. Originally Posted by navalynt

1. Download and install the latest version of QPST from HERE
2. Dial ##3424# on your Hero to put it into diagnosic mode and connect to your computer via USB
3. Open QPST Configuration and go to the PORTS tab
4. Click on "Add New Port".
5. Select the port listed as USB/QC Diagnostics (may vary, just don't use the data modem one)
6. Go to Start Clients Dropdown and select Service Programming
7. From Service Programming your phone should be selected - Click OK
8. Click "Read from Phone" and Enter MSL. Various fields should populate, don't worry about what tab you are one
9. Click "Save to File" and save to wherever you want (just remember where)
The prl will be located in the directory you saved the file in and labeled as <yourphoneesn>_sp.rl0
PRL Restore [With the phone]
Copy the PRL file to the root of your microSD card
Dial ##775# on the handset and enter the MSL code when prompted for password
Tap on Update PRL
If it read your microSD card correctly your PRL file should be listed in the bottom half of the screen to select
Select your PRL and click OK
Press the MENU button and tap on Commit Modifications (which will reboot the phone)

From the QPST tools, launch QPST Service Programming. (Warning: This is an incredibly powerful tool, and it has the capabilities to completely brick your phone, rendering it useless. If you do not know what something does, don't touch it!)
Make sure that your phone is selected, and click OK.
Click the Read from Phone button. This is where you will enter your MSL/SPC code.
Browse to the Roam tab.
In the Preferred Roaming box, click browse. Choose your PRL file. (Note: While this shows the 60650 version, this version may or may not work for you, and this may not be the latest version.)
Double check that you didn't change anything you weren't supposed to!
Click the Write to Phone button. (Note: You may be promoted for your MSL/SPC code again.)
Soft reset your phone.
Enjoy!

Old Corolada PRL Index for other Carriers
Also for those of you who get choppy 3G in your area you can follow techknowfile's guide to roam on Verizon
Do you have a PRL that you see missing? If you would like to contribute to the PRL INDEX just post here and I will add to this Main Post.

Yea I dont think its possible to flash from recovery or else it would have already been done. for AOSP users use QPST method

Wondering if this will work...
Anyone care to try for me
One of the reasons I'm not on the leaked version is because of EPST not working...
I am on stock rooted 3.70 rom. The ##775# doesnt work. I did the ##3282# and got in but saw NO place to change PRL like the OP states.
It does work from myn rom
If someone with 60678 can pull it with the instructions above I would love to have it so I can add it to my analysis site.
EDIT: I have 60678 now... I just need 01117 now. You can find the analysis' at www.batonrougebroadband.info

In order to change prl you need the 2.1 epst. The option was removed with the froyo update. Read technofiles guide to roaming on 3g for the fix.

I had lots of trouble with this, for all you other clueless people...
1. Boot into a 2.1 sense rom.
2. Make sure your prl is on the root of your SD card.
3. Download msl reader from the market.
4. Open the app and find your msl code.
5. Dial ##775# in the dialer and use the MSL code as the password.
6. A screen pops up I think it says update prl. Click on it.
7. On the next screen select your prl from your SD card and press ok.
8. Go back to the screen you were on before, press the menu button and press commit modifications. It should reboot. You are finished.

I am going to clarify step one since this is the one that I had the most problem with. Not ALL 2.1 sense roms will have the ability to process the ##prl# command so you have to find one which does. If you don't have a nandroid backup of your stock rom, then the one that I use is fresh 2.4 (it is available for DL through rom manager). I hope that helps.
Also, if I am not mistaken, don't you have to (after the reboot) update your profile by using ##3282#?

Correct on the not all 2.1 roms will provide the ##prl# command. Personally I use ZenHero. BUT if all you want to do is get the newest prl just load any 2.1 rom and update it. The ##prl# command is mainly for loading custom prls and or older ones.
But you don't have to use ##3282#
afterwards. I just loaded 60679 and it stuck without updating profile. Ymmv though.
®patience is a virtue©
I do it the QPST way, and was going to post in my lil tutorial of how I do it, but since I don't have enough posts here in XDA, it won't let me post in outside links.
I posted in the Hero CDMA stable mod forum on the cyanogenmod site with the title of "Thinking of going back to stock sense?" - same username, elan666
Be very careful with QPST! Honestly, the Sense Rom swap is probably the safer bet...
doing it the sense way is deffintly the easiest not to mention qpst is illegal.
so the sense way just makes sense... sorry i couldnt resist lol.
Thanks:
Scary Alien for helping with some of my brainstorms
CPCookieMan for pointing me in the right direction with my initial thoughts for this project
MongooseHelix for the idea of the script vs a flashable zip
This is a very simple script that utilizes the radiooptions command to disable the radio but still allow use of WiFi. I wanted to make it to be run in init.d on startup but haven't successfully got it working that way yet so for now it can be run with script manager. This script can be run as follows:
1. Download the script and place it somewhere on your SD Card. (Maybe make a folder named Scripts to keep things organized)
2. Download Script Manager from the market.
3. Open Script Manager and navigate to where you saved the script then select the script.
4. Check the options for run as root and if you always use wifi only because you don't have service on your device check off Run at boot as well.
5. When prompted by superuser allow superuser permissions.
I have tested this script on my Incredible and my Eris as well and should be universal to run on any android device.
Download Here
If you are using this on an inactive device and don't want the activation screen coming up after reboot and new ROM flash follow these simple steps.
*NOTE: you need to be using a ROM that has EPST.apk (Sense or stock based) in it for this procedure to work.
1. Select emergency call and dial ##778.
2. Select edit and enter service password 000000.
3. Select NAM Settings.
4. Change Mobile Directory number to 0000000000 (Ten digits).
5. Change MIN1 to 0000000 (Seven digits).
6. Change Mobile Country Code to 000 (Three digits).
7. As you back out "Commit the Change".
The guy that made super charger script has a script that can be ran with gscript and used to modify the init file which is supposed to change it so you can run scripts on boot. I think its only for stock roms tho.

I'm wondering if it could be done by adding the commands in the init.rc file inside the boot image instead of an int.d script. I think the reason it's not working the way I have it setup so far is that it requires su permissions in order for the command to take effect. I'm still researching other ways but for now this method does work

I think so, especially for those of us wanting to build ROMs that give our Eris's a second life as a non-phone touch device.
I know i've been wanting to try my hand at building a ROM like that, just waiting to upgrade in a month as my cell is the only phone i've got, just in case something bad happens to it
Hey, just wanted to say thanks. I don't have a use for this at this time but I can definitely imagine I'll have a use for it eventually!
Whenever I take advantage of my upgrade, I'll be sure to give this a try on my Eris. Right now it's my primary device though. Still, great idea CS!
Works great on my rebuilt Eris ..Thanks CS

It will work fine without EPST. EPST is needed for ##778 to work for disabling the activation screen. The script itself does not require that apk, it uses the radiooptions command.

Its a bit of a process. But I think its worth it. You have to enable modem mode by dialing a #*#* code. Enter the code and Samsung 16 digit generic unlock code. Then you get access to anything on your phone

this method is 10xs easier.
1. Download the PRL.zip folder
2. Unzip PRL onto sdcard root (I used ES File Explorer)
3. Download MSL reader from the market, give it SU access
4. Tap read MSL...write down the 6 digit MSL/SPC Number
5. In the phone dialer dial ##775#
6. In prompt enter the your MSL/SPC number as password
7. Tap Update PRL. Navigate to your PRL file
8. Tap setting button and select Commit Changes.
Last I checked msl reader only worked on htc phones....

Did you have any issues writing to /efs/carrier from Root Explorer? Every time I try it says the write failed. I even changed the permissions on the folder to 777 and that didn't help. I also tried to push the file from ADBGUI and that didn't work either.
Worked for me just fine. just had to hit read write button at the top before I used notepad or whatever is called to edit it.

Okay, I got the file changed but I cannot get the menu to pop up. I'm just supposed to go to the dialer and type in *#06# and something is supposed to pop up, or am I supposed to hit the dial button?? It just tries to call and I get the default Verizon message that the call can't be completed as dialed. Also, I tried the "intent" shortcut method and when I try to run it, it says "Application not Installed" I've verified that I do have HiddenMenu.apk in my /system/app folder. Not sure why this isn't working for me. My phone is rooted, but I am running the stock Verizon build.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's just one thing I tried before it finally worked but as I said don't know if it's necessary and probably its already installed if it's in that folder. I'm glad it worked for someone else though.

In case anyone was wondering some of the NV Items are WRITE PROTECTED so even though "NV-items_reader_writer.exe" will say "successfully written" some items such as 550 it will not overwrite the info and no change will take place.
Just out of curiosity, what does this hidden menu give access to?
beamed from transporter room 3
It gives you the ability to change USB settings so you can use tools to edit NV item entries. One of which is 550 which is your imei number in case flashing screws up your imei. Also you can backup your entire EFS.
