Not sure if this has anything to do with my new rom ..I noticed I wasn't getting any emails so I checked out all my settings and the gmail auto sync box was not checked.. I checked the box and the next day it was unchecked again. Anyone have any idea on this

running 2.1 flipz 2.02b and now I'm not getting notifications when I get an email, I manually have to hit "refresh" and they show up anyone know why?

Go into Settings > Accounts and Sync and make sure that Auto-sync is turned on. I had to do this after I loaded DamageControl and skipped initial sign in.
I have a simmilar issue with Facebook, I NEVER get notifications but my wife does on her Hero. We have the same ROM and settings - its weird. Even on a stock rom, mine will NOT get Facebook notifications. And Market notifications only pop up after I reboot or after I open the market app.
Shot in the dark here, but on my original droid after the 2.2 update, half the time when I go into "gmail" I have to select which account I want to browse, despite only having one. I got a droid 2 last week hoping this would be remedied, same **** is happening. This never happened on 2.0 or 2.1, and I can't find anything on google, yes I realize its only an extra tap but its annoying and I'm worried it may be affecting my notifications.
I made sure task killer wasn't killing it and thus making it start over everytime, that isn't happening, I dunno
That is really strange. I am not having this problem with my Droid 2.
I get the same thing on the Droid2. It also happened on my Droid1 running Cyanogenmod 6 RC (i.e. Froyo).
So, it's a froyo-specific thing, not necessarily anything to do with the D2 itself. There's no rhyme or reason for me on when it happens either; sometimes I can go back to home and then back to GMail and it remembers the account, other times I get the stupid "pick account" screen. It's really annoying.
It doesn't affect notifications. Also, they actually enhanced GMail there, I think. You can have different notification settings for EACH Gmail account, so for 2 accounts you can use different sounds. The 2nd account will inherit the settings from the original account, but you can go in and change it and they are definitely per-account settings and not universal to all gmail notices.
noob here - I have no idea what is going on with my gmail. I flashed CM7 RC2 two days ago and am loving it. I came for Liberated 2.2. I have two gmail accounts, main and junk. I initially added main, then junk. The junk account would auto sync, not so much for the main one though. Do I really care to be notified of my junk but not the important stuff! I have checked settings and it is set to sync. It isn't data/wireless coverage, those are fine (albeit wonky with wifi). I deleted the junk acct in case that was the issue (never was with prior roms), but still no luck. Searching for an answer on the forums hasn't given much insight either. Any ideas?
Have you checked the GMail app itself to see how much of it is syncing?

I checked the settings, it is set to 4 days. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled to see if that would fix the issue - still not auto syncing. For grins I rebooted, that didn't do it either. Maybe a different email app is in order?
My gmail has stopped syncing after the update to GB. Had this issue with the leaked GB too, but figured it would be fixed for the official release. It rarely tells me I have new emails unless I force it to sync on my own.
I don't get the constant sync icon like I had before on the leaks. I did a wipe after loading the pre rooted GB update patch over D2 bootstrapper. Still no dice.
Any ideas? Should I just clear my data for Google things in my application manager?

I recently restored back to a backup from 5 days ago. And since then, my Gmail and market doesn't work. All the settings are correct, Background data and auto-sync are checked. Basically, the backup I made 5 days ago was working perfectly, but after I restored both gmail and market doesn't work. Manual refresh with gmail app does not work either.
Internet works, data using apps still refresh and work great.
For Gmail under "accounts and sync" menu, it says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly."
And for Market, it just says "no connection."
I am running 2.7.1 Revolution Rom, Siyah kernel (the latest one).
