Classic WM6.1 Screen on HD? - Touch HD General

Hi Guys,
Since the HD Runs Windows Mobile 6.1, is it possible to disable every trace of HTC Sense and get the normal WM6.1 Interface as older Wm6.1 devices have without any ill effects?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of Buying a HD, which is possibly the latest device without WM6.5.
Coming from somebody who is old style (I have owned 2 Himalayas so I like classic looking interfaces, none of this fancy clock jumping across the screen and clouds and thunder animations. By classic I mean like this :

, or does the Blackstones ROM have that ugly Wm6.5 styled Today screen
Thanks guys.

you can choose that home screen on each and every windows mobile version and rom. even windows mobile 6.5 or 6.5.x still have that. even if a device might be set to titanium, manila or sense by default, you can deactivate it and in the end, you will end up with that screen you want

Thanks Tony,
Yeah however I'm wondering whether the today screen on the HD itself will look like the one I posted, I don't know if on later Wm6.1 devices they made the Today Screen "Modernized" even without any add-on interfaces like Manilla etc.
Thanks.

that's the point, since there are GUIs like titanium, manila, sense... the default home screen has not been further developed. i made screenshots for you, on the first one, you'll see the home screen with sense 2.5 (my rom is cloudy 0.7, wm6.1 with sense 2.5), then the settings screen and then the one you want, just for comparison. never mind that it's black instead of green, you see in pic2 that's just a theme, and of course it is longer than the one you posted, because of the device's wvga resolution, but basicly it is the same. in pic3 you see, that in order to get the old today screen, i unchecked sense and checked everything else instead. if you were running a wm6.5 rom, it would be likely that that list showed sense, "windows default" (titanium) and the simple items.
and you can also continue to use old home screen plugins that were made for wm2003 or greater, usually satnav software comes with plugins (see navigon in screen4, but also tomtom and others).

yes, it is possible. There are some ROMs by chefs who remove all manufacturer HTC apps and stuff. It is like freshly baked vanilla ROMs staight from Microsoft. Alternativdly, if you are looking to keep the stock ROM, YES you can disable all HTC apps. The today screen csn be reverted back to the stock UI like your pic, and disable othe HTC mods via Reg Tweaks + Cabs
Hope i helped!

HTC Touch interface for Universal

I no others are trying to get this interface to work on other HTC phones is there anyone trying to get it on the Universal? As I use my phone in portrait mode 65% of the time it would seem the best interface to have for a portrait device?
Try this and reply
http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/board/2120/implement-the-new-htc-touch-interface-to-your-pocket-pc.html
This is for qvga only !! and not for ours Universal which is VGA...too bad ...
I too am also very interested in seeing this made for the Universal, any developers here thinking about making a VGA version?.... :-D
Thanks for the link, I guess when I get WM6 will give it a shot. The only thing it does not have is the "cube interface". Unless we can get a ROM chef to incorporate it in to OUR ROM. But thanks again.
I tried the ivan's wm6 touch rom posted in the Universal Mobile 6 board, not good, all the nice touch interface become ugly, waiting for someone get a vga touch interface.
So your using the final beta? I've heard mixed reviews of that ROM. Have you tried the files in the linked posted above they say it will work with WM6. I guess we need someone with a vanilla ROM to try it. So does Ivans ROM have the "cube Interface" or just the HTC home plugin and the comm manager?

I tried that rom and found the touch interface is ugly then switched to other rom. I don't think the linked htc home plugin will work unless you know how to set it to work on vga mode. In the elf2 rom there is only htc home plugin, I didn't see the "cube interface", I maybe wrong since I didn't play too much in that rom. I am still trying different rom and haven't found one that is better,
Vanilla WM6 with linked CAB
Has anyone tried a vanilla WM6 with the linked CABS in this thread?
HTC Touch
I think people are overestimating just how good the touch interface is. I don't have one myself, but after watching every review on the net, it just doesn't look like the (*rolls eyes*) iPod equivalent everyone is saying it is. Sure, it looks pretty, but the interface is slow as hell, and the swipe feature will be hard to use on any device where the edge of the screen is raised.
I'll stick with Spb Mobile Shell with black theme on KDSKamal's WM6-Beautiful thank-you very much.
I hear ya', but I don't care about the Ifone, this an HTC product made for a specific phone Touch/Elf. Our phone is not going to be supported by any carrier anymore, so we as the collective need to make use of what our phone maker has to offer. The Touchflo is the newest thing, wether or not Apple came out with there phone or not I would still want that capability on my phone. Sure I could go buy WAD(Wisbar advance desktop) and recreate the look of it and some functionality of it; but with so many bright minds in this forum, as well as so many other phones of the HTC brand porting it to their phones I thought we might have a chance as well. Hell if I still have my phone and WM7 comes out I will try to get that as well! Please don't take this rant as personal attack, just had a hard day.
Peace
Peace back at ya man.
I agree that we should try to keep our Unis as up to date as possible, and I absolutely agree - when WM7 comes out, I want it on my Uni. What I meant was that, although TouchFlo IS the newest HTC 'innovation', it also seems to be one of their poorest. As I said, I haven't actually used one yet, but after a few hours of video reviews online, it just looks like a s l o w gimmick that HTC Touch users will get annoyed with after a week or so, and wish they could un-install.
Regards
I have both the Jasjar and the Touch and so far I am happy of having them both.
I really like the size of the touch and if you don't want to use the TouchFlo interface, use it like the ordinary PPC. There is no need to uninstall because the default interface is the same as the other PPCs.
Opps
Any updates about TouchFLO for Universal..
Neo users are having it!
Try this it's fantastic, though it has some bugs still.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328010
Its just a flash program!
Right, it is *.swf file.
You can create a shortcut *.lnk file that link to the *.swf file and place it \Windows\Startup\, bingo, your PPC boots up to Touch Flo.
But anyone figures out how to remove the demo wordings on it?
Wohooo!
HTC Home works on my SPV m5000!
But, looks like crap, fonts are under the skin, the contact icons are bigger than the frame so i can't see the face.
Uninstalled!

I re-switched to RealVGA after installing this, but it wasn't like this... That Telenor font was way bigger, and could only be partially seen. That unread icons, i could see half of them... etc.
Oh and the PDA was slower.

what is better?

since our wizards are not so powerful in sense of cpu and memory, is it better to have almost clean rom without touchflo and htc home and those functions to replace with spb pocketplus and weather, or even with more simple rltoday + some other weather plugin (without smart scrolling function)?
Hum... thats one of those questions thats kinda up to you decide what works best, according to your needs. If you really want a clean ROM, meaning standard apps and all, you go with the official ROM's from your phone provider.
I rather use specific software to do what I need than use a plugin that does everything and some stuff I don't want.

This is from usability point of view, and what is better from performance point of view? All you need (and do not need) in rom or light rom with lot of add-on softwares?
Lets see... if you have all the apps built in the ROM, you won't be able to remove them if an update comes along, you can overwrite them tho, meaning you'll have probably some junk after a while.
If you have a light ROM, if its really good, you won't have any problems with it and you can install whatever you wish as an add-on. Sometimes when you put some software thats not supposed to work with our devices (like HTC Home Plugin, for example) it will slow it down... but if you have it built in on the ROM, it works just fine. That is due to memory allocation problems that do exist on the WM devices. For instance, that was what kept us from installing the Touchflo drivers on Wizard WM5 devices.
Hope that helps you
programs inside the rom dont use any storage or ram of a device unless started
not using all the space in the rom dont make it faster really
so it's better if one removes something to put something else in it's place
because programs installed my the user does! take up storage
and of cause only ram if started
dferreira, as i can see you are using wm5. why? is your build of wm5 faster then original one (i have t-mobile). currently i am using pdaviet wm6 built.
after flashning it i was surprised how fast it was. but now after few installed softwares and a month of using it seems to getting slower. is it just my imagination or you also have that experience?
Any ROM behaves like that after a while. Maybe is something to do with the trash WM leaves behind everytime we install something.
Why I use WM5? Because that's the OS that came with our devices. From what I've tested, there isn't a single WM6 that does work without any bugs (missing calls, wifi not working, etc). Also I find that WM6 makes our device drain the battery a lot faster. So I decided to make a WM5 ROM with the stuff we miss the most on WM6.
i presumed that this is similar to windows installed to pc. i will wait for your new 5.1 release and then will give a chance again to wm5.
for sure i will not miss htc cube or flo.
what about better memory management in wm6? is it possible to improve it in wm5?

Out of curiosity then, what are the differences then between 6.1 and 6.5... these screen shots are not as I expected! or is this just using parts of 6.5 to create a stable rom?
Running on my Polaris
i'll update on how this is running later
can you tell us about the performance ?
performance is bad... very slow, and doesn't respond to screen taps very good...
I have got the impression that the only thing 6.5 in this rom is the text 6.5 in the about screen...
giz a chance to use it lol
Because i usually only use 'naked' rom's this feels a bit lumpy (slow). M2d scrolls ok (found this an issue on previous 6.1 Roms). Nice touch with the battery/vol etc icons across the top bar, like having wisbar, but without having it...
Camera doesn't work, doesn't show a display.
Did you notice something different scroll in contacts and in the program folder ??(not manila program folder)
i've seen an old hp with win mobile 6.1 and the scroll was perfect. I think that this fact is related to the video driver....Im very happy of my shekhar rom but the scroll is ridicolous
Contact scroll - good, as good as i've seen it on any ROM
Program scoll - Jumpy not smooth at all, takes a second to refresh the icons
I've removed M2D from the today section and install winterface (my preferred UI) and that seems smooth and as fast as its been on the naked rom's - so thats promising..

Funny i was thinking the same
Sktools is showing this as OS 5.2.21140.3
i hope that htc will relase also a new set of driver...
the 6.5 relase is still under heavy (??) development.. so we must wait before to comment
It can use 1.59.44.02
to see if its really WM6.5 just deactivate touchflo (with advancedconfig, or something similar) and go to the programs folder and scrool with finger...
it should bounce once it reaches begging/end of icons list...
i didn't release mine cause there is really nothing new...and its full of bugs...
it scrolls better...better then 6.1 but still icon refresh issues...hope its gone on final...
Camera not work
Very slow
Camera working well here or it's just the same with 6.1
BUT check internet explorer...Surprise!!

[WM 6.5] Can we add custom Today Screen items?

Hi All,
I would be missing it completely, but can we add custom Today Screen items in WM 6.5? Something like what Titanium does? I dont want to use Titanium, but just add extra items to Today screen.
Is there a way to do it?
Thanks,
Chaks

i think you are talking about something like HS++ or rltoday.... installing those things should work fine just make sure you tick the appropriate box in today item...
Hi,
I want to create a new Today Screen item in the Windows Default Today screen like the Favorite People Plugin, but I dont want to use Titanium Plugin.
Is that possible?
Hi man,
have you finally find a solution, because i want to do the same but there is no Hello world app for that...
depending upon what version of manila you have, you could use TFDetacher (works with 2.1 but not 2.5). I use it to create a second today screen for my plugins, and have it set to a softkey to toggle between manila and the other today screen. I also use Second Today to have a third today screen that I have Weatherpanel as the only plugin; I use a hard key to toggle to it. Hope that helps.
I too am looking for a similar solution. I tried Titanium mod and I don't like it I gave it two tries and both times resulted in a hard reset. The program itself is fine and feature rich it just isn't mature enough for liking and I kept hitting too many bugs which for me made it unusable.
It ok I found one a little basic but works for my needs. I found it in the MS App store called "Home Screen Customizer" One thing I found straight away was the weather panel works for me first time. The titanium one always used to come back with either .net 3.5 message errors or state issues finding a certain url.
Also its quick and easy to just add my own apps to my own panel and remove default existing panels this all works on the fly without having to reboot or disable and reenable home screens.

Use Manila Today Page
I use Manila Today Page that added one more tab towards the end of the TF3D tabs.... Works wonders for me....

Help me love Android more on my HD2

I want to, I really really want to but everytime I boot into it I keep thinking "meh".
It just looks clunky when I compare the Android Homescreen (build as per sig) to my WinMO homescreen - with stock ROM, CHT2 and the Glass appearance.
So as not to repost what I said elsewhere here are my beefs and likes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10328739&postcount=30
Main issues for me:
-poor battery life
-homescreen dominated by huge clock and widgets take up too much room each (large fonts) so the Agenda widget can only display 1 entry whereas on Winmo I can display at least 2 - even with a row of quicklinks and the date/alarm
-no Android Sense equivalent of the Slider?
You seems to really dislike android... I am sure that is because you don't know this os much.
there are many ways to recreate this screen, start to look at pure calendar widget and launcher pro. My battery last more than 6h screen on, more than one hundred in standby. Nand builds are very battery friendly.
I guess it's just a matter of taste, but I like Android so much better the WinMo. I loved CHT 1.8.5 back on WinMo, but when I started to use Android (which soon replaced WinMo), CHT felt so 'limited' if you find out what else you can do on Android. I've learned many things from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743301
Maybe a good idea to take a look there?
Sincerely,
Mac
where did I say I dislike it?
If anything I am saying I would like to like it more, is all.
As I did all the settings etc for my wife's Desire I have played around with it a fair bit over the past 6 months on her phone.
I am just saying apart from those few things above (esp Apps and multi-calendar) for me it does not seem to add much over WinMo and have listed a few negs vs WinMo in my experience.
It isn't a visceral preference - I am trying to keep an open a mind as I can!
I don't want to use a Nand build as there are a few things I need to drop into WinMo for (work related) and at this stage I don't see it as a superior choice yet anyway

What kinds of things are you referring to that you can do in Android over WinMo please?
oh and Mac I hit the thanks button for you simply for your great Sig - I heartily agree!
I would get launcher pro if i was you. You can edit the size of the widgets and change how many rows and columns. I also changed the font size so is smaller and it fits more stuff on each screen. I would also say launcher pro has the closest thing to a slider like winmo. It let's you have three docks which you van slide through which gives you up to 15 different items in the dock.
