be sure you have USB debugging turned on
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950475. I posted this after I had the same issue, it will take you to the right place and brake it down to you.
Cheers!
Some supplemental information, I read about people having issues with super one click with the official 2.2 release. I followed the guide shown here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925400 and did not have a single issue. Looking back, at that time i wasnt that comfortable with using odin. Now that i am, I would have just gone back to stock, ran the update.zip, cwm, backup and then flash. I guess if you just want a stock rooted froyo follow the links listed in the posts above and dont worry about odin right now.
This screen poped up when i was tryong to upgrade from rooted 2.1 Eclair to stock froyo 2.2 via samsung kies.It happened when i unplugged the USB cable from my PC because the kies failed to recognise my device. Can any one help me out???

you can use z4root, one click to root
If your on 2.2 do not use z4 phone will crash constantly

If you are running stock froyo from mini kies SuperOneClick 1.6.5 will do it for you.
z4root doesn't work on stock froyo.
I upgraded from eclair to froyo via mini kies and rooted my phone with SuperOneClick 1.6.5. Get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8532790&postcount=1
Make sure you have the USB drivers installed (If you upgraded your phone via mini kies then you already have the drivers). Enable USB debugging on your phone.
Connect phone to PC and run SuperOneClick. I left all the default options on (psneuter not rageagainstthecage) about 60 seconds later my phone was rooted!
Check app drawer to make sure you have SuperUser icon.

If not reboot (I didn't have to reboot). However when I installed Titanium Backup it did give me an error - I clicked the problem button which downloaded a more recent version of busybox and everything was fine.
I was a little leary at first about rooting because I didn't want apps doing things to my phone that could cause problems. No worries though since any app that wants root access must be permitted by the Superuser app - you can allow or deny root access to any app that requires it or even remove permissions to an app that you had initially allowed.
Good luck but you shouldn't need it, it's MUCH EASIER than flashing your phone.
I have a Vibrant running stock 2.2 (updated by Mini Kies from stock 2.1).
I've tried the superoneclick and it always gets a no space error, which is not due to nospace. I see a few others with Vibrants on oneclick thread with the same problem.
Here are the details of my problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11510304&postcount=2652
Any suggestions?
I just noticed that your phone was rooted when you were running 2.1.
My phone was not rooted on 2.1, I didn't root until after the froyo upgrade from mini kies and SuperOneClick 1.6.5 ran without errors.
I don't know if this may be an issue. I know some people have had problems when upgrading roms because of voodoo lagfix. If you used oneclicklagfix to root your phone maybe that's causing some kind of filesystem problem.
I'm just guessing at this point, maybe someone more experienced can add to this..I just did a search and couldn't find anything revelant.

Thanks for this mod, I'm a real noob in this. I have few questions
1. Before flashing with this new Version, How do I backup complete OS (Just in case some thing went wrong)
2. Before installing, You said "Connect via USB & Flash it!". What type of connection we have to select (as it prompts to select)
3. Is this version is official from Android or by any other Developers group ?
Thanks in advance !
1 if you not rooted you can't backup, if rooted use rommanager
2 charging is fine
3 ruu and ota are official
can i know what 'data' are erased? what about phone contacts, pictures, apps, notes?

Can I update my device using this RUU? the phone is fresh new I haven't installed anything on it yet.
IF you are in the Europe region just connect to Wifi, Go to settings > about > System updates > Check now.
This only works if your phone isn't branded to a network like Vodafone.

HI
I am using HTC Desire HD and was rooted before upgrading it to 2.3.3,
now I am unable to root it and
is there anyway to root it,
I try a lot of software like Gingerbreak 1.2 and Visionary and z4root and alot of other software, but all fails
any help please
First of all 2.3.3 is Gingerbread.
And how did you upgrade your phone?
visionary only works with 2.2
You should downgrade first, then you can permroot your DHD. Follow the link in my signature

OK..So till now there is no root for 2.3.3 , is this is why I have to downgrade...
Yeh no root for 2.3.3 and i doubt people will bother when its this easy to downgrade and then install custom firmware.
how bad, I really like the new things in 2.3.3, but anyway having a root access on the mobile will be better as everything was added in 2.3.3 can be installed as a software on 2.2
How about:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/
It's as easy as "download -> run" and it works brilliantly!
I suggest, instead of doing it on Windows and dealing with all them complications, just booting a Ubuntu Live CD (it's not as bad as it sounds, I actually liked it the first time I tried it and now I have it installed by my Windows) and just run the command:
wget http://droid.neolobster.com/roms/aahk-25102011.zip && unzip aahk-25102011.zip && sudo ./hack-ace.sh
Click to collapse
in terminal, press "1" and be afk for 5 mins.
Doesn't erase your data, doesn't format your phone, doesn't downgrade your Android OS.
What it DOES do is:
Automagically turn your sdcard into a goldcard
Set Radio S-OFF
Set SuperCID
Remove Carrier SIMLOCK
Install Clockworkmod Recovery
Root the phone
Install RomManager
Install Superuser
Good luck with it

Hello everyone.
Here you can find the latest (25th of August 2011) stock Android gingerbread release for Samsung Captivate - i897.
It was not tested on i896/i9088 or i9010. If you tested it, please report back.
This package does not contain bootloaders so the risk of bricking your device is very limited (close to zero)
This is Android 2.3.4

How to (semi-dummy proof)
1. Reboot in recovery (check this thread for hints) and perform factory reset by selecting the option circled in red and then confirming the selection.Navigation is done with volume keys.

Note: you will need Samsung drivers for Galaxy S for following this guide. Easiest way to get them is to download and install Keis from here (make sure Kies is not running while using ODIN)
If you have them already then you're good to go.

Could it be that the new continuum be based on kh3? Just curious. As always great work.
I was happier to see a post from Cezar than I was to see the new release
^ Yeah. +1000 to that. We appreciate the Great Devs here !!
I'm currently running Apex 9.1 on i9000 bootloaders with the JV6 i9000 modem. If I were to flash this KH3, would I be able to flash the regular KB2 modem?
so GB bootloaders will no be a problem?, what about SU rights?
Rooted? Or just pure bone stock?
I'll probably flash either way, just curious.

Does this mean that I can flash this from Stock 2.2 with its bootloaders?
^ No... U need the GB Bootloaders to run a Gingerbread Rom.
As far I know, there are i9000 Gingerbread bootloader and Captivate Gingerbread/Froyo bootloader, and those two are not competitive to run others ROM.
so... bootloader free version probably prevents hardbricking cappy (black screen of death, JTAG required) whom coming from i9000 ROM but still makes bootloop or cappy-!-pc screen I guess.
1. i9000 ROM -> bootloader included odin package -> fine
2. i9000 ROM -> bootloader free odin package -> hardbricking
3. i9000 ROM -> bootloader free (this thread) CWM package -> bootloop (guess)
4. Captivate Froyo and Gingerbread ROM -> dose not matter bootloader included or not
Please let me know if I am wrong.

Afther flash the stock, everything run smoothly. Note that you have to very strictly follow the instruction of Cezar at the 1st post otherwise, may be your capt get stuck at ATT screen.

Interesting. I'll install it when I get my phone today and see if it breaks root.
Just checked the update on phone it just give a application update for Twitter nothing else at the moment... Checked my wife's non rooted shift and has the same Twitter update nothing else that there Twitter account says...
It's just another basic HTC security update just like the last one...But I did hear HTC patched misc.img partition on the G2 so be carefull about what security patches you update to because it could break root if you have s-on and stock HTC recovery.
Has anyone actually been able to initiate this update yet? I want to pull the .zip from the SD card without installing it to see what's inside and whether or not it can be made into a patch for a rooted 2.3.3 without too much trouble (since I'm an idiot and I want to run the phone stock, save for root).

You're running sense?!?!?
Hi all,
So, I finally got the ICS update via Kies (not OTA, through USB) 3 days ago. Since then, my internet speeds seem to have tanked I did the factory reset twice, and tried both APN settings, the one that came with ST and the one that has been posted here (one for internet and one for MMS). Prior to the update, I could easily get 4-6mb down and 1.5mb up; now it's hardly 1-2mb down and not even 1mb up. Did I screw something up?
BTW, I'm running stock, unrooted, ICS 4.0.3
Baseboard: N7000XXLPT
Kernel: 3.0.15-N7000XXLQ2-CL605927
Build: IML74K.XXLQ2
Has anybody else experienced the same thing? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Help a noob, please
Hi, I'm a beginner also.
Does anyone know if I have to revert back to stock GB before I connect to Kies for the ICS update?
Most importantly, can I revert back to Stock GB if I don't like this update? (I would PC Odin Stock GB ROM, zergrush for root).
Sorry I couldn't answer the question above, but I would gladly try out the ICS update if my above two questions can be answered. I just want to be safe before I proceeded.
I was on ICS for a brief moment and reverted because of well documented bricking risk. My guess is your apn's where off a bit, or maybe the modem needs to be switched.
But thats the least of your worries. Because you did a reset you may have damaged your eMMC .... that's the bug.
For now you need to get a safe kernel on there.
1. root your ICS
2. mobile odin a SAFE kernel
DO NOT WIPE AGAIN until....

Wow, I'm really shocked. This is ICS Update over Kies from Samsung. Not a leaked ICS ROM he got from a friend.
I am in disbelief that Samsung would allow us to receive this bug over their official Kies method.
Is this verified? The ICS that Samsung gives over Kies also has the eMMC bug?
---
Sorry, just did a quick XDA search, I couldn't find a definitive answer that the ICS Update via Kies from Samsung has eMMC bug. But they're all saying STOCK or Custom ICS ROM, DO NOT WIPE OR FACTORY RESET.

Just did a more extensive eMMC search. From this post I found this note.
All ICS official releases for the Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) as of late May 2012 - This includes XXLPY, ZSLPF, and DXLP9, and future kernels should be assumed affected until further notice.
To my understanding is, Samsung is shipping out updates that will brick your phone. WTF?!?!

Please do NOT use Wipe Data/Factory Reset. It is the main difference between first and 2nd round of testing and is the current suspect
My newest issue seems to be unable to send a text message now! WTF? I would have dealt with slower data until I figured out how to go about fixing my damaged eMMC (if it's damaged, that is). Good grief!
