What's the thread you want us to see...?
You just posted the link to the Captivate's General Section, not any thread.
He probably means the "Communicate with Samsung" thread over there. There's a lot of Samsung hate flying around in there.
I hope Samsung really is trying to move in the right direction. Only time will tell how it pans out, though. The best thing we can all do is use the communicate with samsung page to ask as many good serious non-trolling questions as possible to try to impress upon Samsung what we think is important.
Yeah sorry about the wrong link. edited OP
We should all go in there and reassure the Captivate owners that Samsung isn't that bad since we are getting Froyo on Monday.

It's not about froyo... It's about the bs PR stunt they are pulling and the possible loss of XDA credibility!

Oh, well thats just stupid then. You need to wait and see what SamsungJohn brings with "phase 2" and beyond. Then pass judgement. I dont like how he went about what he is doing and I have voiced that fairly well, but to call it a bs PR stunt is probably premature. And what credibility is XDA going to lose even if this is a PR stunt? Developers are going to stop using XDA because they got hoodwinked? Not likely.

I've been curious about the timing of all this. Is Sprint trying to save face because they've been the hold up? Or is Samsung trying to steal Sprint's thunder on xda? Or is it simply a coincidence?

Its a coincidence. 90% of Epic4g owners on Sprint probably dont even know what Froyo is or care if its released at all. There is no reason for Sprint or Samsung to feel pressure now more than any other time to release Froyo.
But they do feel the pressure... XDArs may only be 2% of consumers, but we are the ones that family and friends come to for advice. Our voice carries a lot further than one would think!

Dont jinx it!!!!!! Im pretty sure its happening from what we see... but im not COMPLETELY relaxing until its in our hands.
As far as John, hopefully his phase 2, or whatever the big thing is, is giving the Devs access to stuff no other OEM would do.... THAT would be impressive John... drivers, etc???
Even if there was legitimate software issues that really took this long to resolve, once its out, couldn't they post what they went thru, that could save face if SOMEHOW it actually took this long.... as long as that holdup wasnt anti-root security... that would be pretty silly... anything can be reverse engineered... ask the HDCP consortium....
Free USB>HDMI cables? Free TVs? Discount of SGS2, with the promise of releasing with the cutting edge software, and timely updates after that???
ok... im done... for now

I doubt very highly that they'd offer us free anything, except maybe a kick in the behind. Also, discounts on sgs2 just doesn't seem very likely either. I'm just hoping for transparency regarding source code and MAYBE drivers, but not holding my breath.

I seriously doubt that had anything to do with it. Just taking a logical guess, I'd wager the more likely scenario is that T-Mo's GS phone had less proprietary carrier 'issues' such as TouchWiz on our side to have to work the kinks out & 'play nice' with. I'm relatively newer with Sprint from that angle, but in my AT&T history I know all too well how they like to cater things to how they want them and/or limit them.
Closed thread encouraging flaming and a duplicate of many other threads.

So other phones are getting froyo, even a leaked version is out and we are stuck with nothing for the vibrant. The Droid 2 has froyo already and it just came out a few days ago. What's up with that? And I'm guessing the only thing we can expect new is browser speed and flash anyhow right? What about Samsung manually fixing that damn lag fix themselves and fully using the power of this device?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Uhm. there was a leaked version of 2.2 for the Vibrant (international version). What exactly is the point that you're trying to get at?
No there are more features.. JIT is one of the most important ones.
Do some research before making your point, Samsung has already said Froyo is due near September. Be patient. Root your phone if you want to use the "Lagfix."
There are also 10 more threads asking the same thing, we don't need any more of these threads. It'll be out sooner than you know it as long as you stop focusing so much on it.
Excuse u I'm free to generally speak about whatever I want. Like I said, Samsung should have set their phone to maximum performance when releasing it and there wouldn't even have to be a lag fix. I see there's a nationalal release of froyo for devs but I'm curious as to how the Droid 2 got a working froyo already. And don't come in here telling me what I can type. What the heck is wrong with u? I'm smart when it comes to these phones and its unfortunate that u cant understand my point. Get off of my topic

If your "smart when it comes to these phones" you would know that motorola has been working on 2.2 since the second it came out. Samsung has a lot more going on with the UI than motorola does, so its not as easy for them to just get it out. Your ignorance to posting the SAME DAMN QUESTION that multiple people have asked is where he gets the right to tell you not to make another pointless thread. It will comes when it comes, until then quit crying.
You know Motorola Droid 2 is the only phone to be released on launch date with Android 2.2? September is a pretty quick date for a Froyo 2.2 compared to:
myTouch 3G (Stock): 1.6
T-Mobile G1 (Stock): 1.6
Motorola Cliq: 1.6
------> Sony Ericsson Xperia: 1.6
------> Dell Streak 5: 1.6
IF ANYTHING Samsung is doing a great job compared to Dell and Sony which will probably be getting Froyo at a LATER date.
The Galaxy S is ranked #1 as highest benchmarks with the lagfix. So I don't get what you mean by "maximium performance." If a number on your Android is bothering you then you should of purchased a Nexus One or a DROID 2 instead. Droid 2 has got a "working froyo" because it LAUNCHED with it and when the phone was being made Motorola, Verizon were probably working together with Google to launch this.
And since you said that you have rights to publish this, I have my rights to express my opinion as well and I think that all these posts saying that the Vibrant isn't on 2.2 isn't going to make the vibrant get it any faster. The phone is relatively new and developers are getting more familiar with Samsung.
Just enjoy the phone for what it is right now, there are certainly a lot more to do on it than a new version of Android. Coming from a G1 (even though I had 2.2) this is a significant milestone for me on how smooth the device is.
Edit: Agreed with fenixnr, pretty much what I said.

Unfortunately for you, this is a forum, and there are rules and etiquette to abide by.
Your point is easily understood - you want froyo, like NOW. Just chill out, be patient, and learn some manners.
Thanks.
Definitely agree with the others on this. Froyo will come soon enough. Samsung has stated it. There's nothing you can do to change that. The other thing you need to take into consideration between the Droid 2 and the Vibrant.......Droid 2 - Motorola. Vibrant - Samsung.
Different companies.
Do we really need another thread about this? Froyo won't come any faster just coming in here and *****ing about it, so why don't you just relax, do something productive and have fun while waiting for the update. It will be here soon.
Take a deep breath ... woosahh ... woosah .. Froyo will come soon enough ..
I'm clearly abiding by the rules. My topic didn't ask a question, I'm simply getting opinions from you guys as to why froyo was released so quickly on the Droid 2 but I understand now... I realized that Motorola released froyo for the regular Droid a little while ago *well not full release* but I can't stand when someone comes in here and feel the need to type rude stuff to people. I'm grown. If the topic seems pointless like others then allow it to die off and not reply to it if you don't have anything respectful to say. Rude people I yell you. But thanks to the ones that have some type of respect when replying. Smh

HAHA, this is awesome. When has any phone, or electronic device for that matter, been released to "its maximum performance" and or have no problems in the history of time? Would you really want that? Have no room for improvement?
While you wait for 2.2 to drop (when ever it does) I would suggest go through the dev forum and try some of great stuff thats out already. Had my phone for 3 weeks and after spending some time all my problems are GONE! Nothing is ever going to perfect, even when 2.2 comes out your phone still might not make you happy. haha

another reason Moto was quick to release froyo was the fact that they only have to test it for one carrier, Verizon. Samsung needs to test froyo for all the carriers that offer the Galaxy.....which is basically all of them.

The galaxy S phones kick all others to the curb.
I agree unlike others. Froyo has been out since may... they need to get on it. Call me impatient and in gonna agree.... hell even cm6 is taking ages..... yes I'm impatient again.lol
I can't wait for the day we get FROYO on the vibrant. Then the forum can fill up with the "Where's my Gingerbread" threads,
The one thing I hate more than a redundant question is all of the replies that point out the obvious fact that the OP is asking a redundant question.

I love when I got onto the forum, there was a topic IDENTICAL to this right next to it.
It's fine that you wanna post w/e you want... but the "opinions" you wanted are right there, check those out first.
simple solution for those who "can't" wait
return your Samsung device and purchase a device that has Froyo, maybe the Nexus one or whatever else has Froyo already out for it.
Problem solved.. then you will have to find the next thing in life to complain about.

maybe you are not well informed but, the n1 is no longer for sale to the general public, and the ones found in the developers market are back ordered....
I love my vibrant, but its kinda upsetting that my 8 month old phone did so many things better than the phone with the best hardware on the market.
Every morning I do a quick search of the interwebs to check for new ROM leaks - so I search "Epic" "Froyo" "DL11" "DL15" etc.
I just googled "Epic Froyo DL15" and THIS was the third result. It looks like an unfinished FAQ for a DL15 update.

So after more than a week, Samsung still hasn't completed this simple FAQ, no wonder it's taking them so long to get FroYo out.
I don't see why they wouldn't push out the latest version. Average person isn't going to want to flash again a week later for minor fixes.

This is really the only reason I miss the evo...atleast the coorperate devs t htc and sprint rolled out updates...they have gotten 3 updates while we are still stuck on di18
I have to be honest, I'm really reconsidering buy this thing. The evo can be modified in all kinds of ways, and it gets updates from Sprint/HTC in a much more timely fashion.
Samsung and Sprint doesn't seem to give a crap about the Epic for some reason, I'm not sure why since Sammy has sold close to 10 million of these galaxy s phones. I mean if you don't support these devices and provide timely updates, I don't see people being repeat customers of Samsung.
This has been my first non HTC smartphone, and frankly its looking to be my last, its a shame too, the hardware itself is terrific.

It's not that they don't give a crap about it. Froyo was designed on and optimized for a different processor and file system. For whatever reason, Samsung insists on using their own file system, which means they basically have to port Froyo to work with their specs. In addition, a company that only makes phones and pda's like HTC, can concentrate 100% of their resources on those products. While Samsung is making microwaves, TV's, Cameras, and whatever else, so they prioritize a little differently.

There comes a point though when they have to actually release something. Would you still be ok with the wait if they decide to start working on build DL21 and then move on to DL24, etc... and not release a damn thing in the mean while?

Its amazing the maturity of the people on the Epic forums compared to the Evo forums ... it's ridiculous
woot woot!
Ditto on the Within. I haven't truely made up my mind just yet (although I hate the screen, cams and battery life on the evo3d). I don't get my upgrade til September (epic release date) after calling Sprint about premier gold vs silver (thanks again guys!) and my plan is to wait about a month (if necessary) to see what Cyanogenmod prospects look like on both platforms. If the within has good progress at least being made, within for sure. But if it's a small dev community (don't get me wrong, ours is certainly quality over quantity ) again working on a very different us variant with issues, it may be enough to make me take the Evo3D. I love its resolution like you wouldn't believe, but I think the screen looks like crap because of the 3d surface on top of it. Plus qualcomm crappy battery life, 720p 5mp only cameras... should be interesting!
I don't think I'm alone in saying though the epic taught me a very valuable lesson. Never buy on release day. Its hard I know but the epic is great, we've STILL got great devs hard at work, and gingerbread and flash look better than on a mac (which almost always suck with fash). I'll wait it out a bit. If I upgrade it'll be mostly for software support, mods and a bit more running ram for multitasking.

Mystery's ability to do what he did with froyo makes me wonder what we'll get from ACS regarding GB. This release was sick. It's the froyo we were all seeking. I think we're on track to see our phones rise as their reliability continue to cruise. I know people still joining older phones for cost reasons. We'll have another wave enter our community down the road. It's all cyclical. The Within crowd will be demanding before they learn patience. Be strong, grasshoppers.
That reminds me, in preparation for my trip to Amsterdam and Germany I was updating my old TP2 (for the sim card slot, last year I got 6.5-7mbps on vodafone germany, for ten euros for the month prepaid! Way faster than 3g sprint, kinda funny). They still have active development going on! Its awesome, I love the community! June 6th for the rom, then they've got a very nice froyo (and somewhat unstable gingerbread) in both nand flash or haret boot. Amazing. That and the wpa-supplicant ad-hoc hack for the epic and I'll be tethering my epic to the tp2, google voice and skype, ten euros prepaid internet and I'll be good to go! Did I mention I love the community?!

She said she'll pay for the Within.. so $200 and im guessing the Within will be more .. so im making interest
So SamsungJohn is back and since the Vibrant has not received an update to Gingerbread I think we might get a final answer as to whether not we are getting it.
(I honestly couldn't care less I'm happy with my phone but it would be nice to know for sure).
So SamsungJohn, do you have any information like you did with Froyo?

Yea sorry to burst your bubble, but im pretty sure his big announcements are going to be to announce upcoming nexus devices.
I doubt we are going to see an official Gingerbread release for the vibrant because it doesnt just pop up over night, an official release require extensive testing, the likes of which usually result in leaks or at the very least somewhat substantiated rumors. If you recall in our wait for Froyo we saw countless leaks over the span of several months.
I for one cannot wait to see the announcement for the prime and other nexus devices. Im through with carrier branded devices.

Oh I already know that the big announcement is probably in relation to the upcoming Nexus device. What I was talking about is post #15 where he says:
Thanks Chainfire, please do stay in touch. As for me, I'm going to check out some of the XDA Samsung forums and see what's been going on.

Vibrant is a Samsung device so I thought he'd come in here and people might be interested in getting a definitive answer whether or not the Vibrant will be getting updated or not from a legit source.

Ah my bad, i only read the first page :x lol
I got his attention:
SamsungJohn,
I'm not meaning to harrass you at all, but is there any way you could shed some light on whether or not the Samsung Vibrant will be getting a gingerbread update?
It has been in question for a long time now, seeing as the other SGS devices got it... we are all kind of wondering why it was left in the dust. I mean, Gingerbread improves on the CPU the Vibrant is equipped with, bringing it to its full potential more-so than Froyo.
I, and many others purchased the phone on a 2 year contract with updates in mind. Its only a year old phone, it seems kind of rude that it has already been abandoned (if that is the case) I know you don't make all the decisions there at Samsung, but If you can see it from our point of view, could you maybe speak with someone that does have control over the situation?
I love the Hardware, beautiful screen, and Samsung in general... But please John, tell them they are going to lose future customers if they drop phones after such a short amount of time. It irritates people who bought a phone with the SGS label, and already people are seeing it as inferior to device to those of the same timeframe, such as the G2... Because HTC has kept the phone updated and their customers happy, Many of them will return to HTC for their next device.
Thanks for your time, and being a part of this community.

Maybe your energy should be focused at Tmobile, who had proven track record of not providing updates.
I do believe that going with non carrier based phones is the correct track.

I am not sure what SamsungJohn's official title or job is but he is certainly not in customer relations. He has never given a decent straight forward answer. I almost think I would rather have a lower quality phone that gets updates than a high quality hardware phone that never gets updated.
I love my phone but not releasing updates has made me think my next phone and tablet will not be a Samsung device. I have a 2.2.1 wifi Galaxy Tab that has never seen an update and a Vibrant with only one update. And to be fair, the update to FroYo on the Vibrant was something that it should have shipped with to begin with. To compound the issue we get no response or time frames on any updates. That is just horrible customer service.
Thanks for the hardworking of T-mobile or Samsung,
I wont get any Android products without "Nexus" in their ass
I will stay with T-mobile because it suits my current needs. 2 lines $130, unlimited un-throttled data on both; but I will never buy another phone that is not Nexus.
I almost rather be the douche with an Iphone, know it's being locked down, have less features, etc, but know I will have a working gps and support in 6 months. Being able to make calls....well they are all just holding the phone wrong anyway.

I want to see an official ICS on my Vibrant for a few reasons. So keep the comments to Sammy going folks. Don't let an announcement like this go out without voicing your support for it.
Sammy on G+ (with Facebook, YT & Twitter links)
Samsung is rethinking the update not T-Mobile...... If we didn't get an official gingerbread update we most likely won't get an ice cream sandwich update. It will most likely only be going to the original galaxy tab and the I9000 if any.

Developers have to start with something. Why not start with a ROM intended for a particular device with all features working, like e911?

Per this article and other, similar articles, Samsung is reconsidering. Not T-Mobile. The difference is, Samsung may roll out ICS for Galaxy S on other carriers and not T-Mobile, just like GB. Hopefully Samsung will atleast throw us a bone via Kies some day.
Squeek those wheels!
Yes the article sounds good but!, like someone above posted "tmobile [or samsung] hasnt rolled out gingerbread for the vibrant YET" !!
We need to up the pressure on both tmobile and samsung they cant afford to loose "millions of users over a dumb update" !
An thats what they are worried about!
So do what I do to every inane tweet by either tmobile or samsung retweet while working in the words > "...gingerbread for the vibrant..#shameonsamsung #boycottsamsung.."
Can I make a difference alone? no But Millions of us can!
Give them hell!
p.s. This is also the same for the pathetic excuse the cyanogenmod team came out with for them stopping support for the vibrant ie the 911 problem. The 911 problem was that way from day one with cm roms so cut the bs! The truth for the cm rom team is they got pissed off by someone and decided to screw all of us vibrant people over for the crap from one person!
yes different excuses but same results were getting screwed!
I most assuredly support cm rom team and all of the other developers on XDA but what happened to the team spirit? Come on guys post a disclaimer about the 911 and get back on the updates!
PLEASE!
No hope for us vibrant users. They are talking about international galaxy S, and probably US carrier versions that officially got gingerbread.
Ya this won't happen for the vibrant tmo doesn't even carry it anymore, they already have are money we had to ***** to even get froyo that had to be installed via kies mini. If one of the other us variants gets ics that would be are best bet, then again it won't be a easy port it never is.

Yeah, Rider.. that's also what you said about getting laid, but.. here you are. ;D
i'm sure samsung said this just to keep all the outcry to a minimum as possible. delay, delay, delay until the people give up and move on. it only makes sense to release a non carrier aosp version rather than figure out how to shrink touchwiz being that this is mainly targeting the tech savviests out there.
so if any of you haven't yet, sign it! show samsung we care and want them to improve.
we might need to start our own petition.

I admit Vibrant will probably never get an official Gingerbread or ICS update. Samsung is certain to skip us if they update international Galaxy S to ICS. That doesn't mean we should throw in the towel. Tweet them, who knows we might end up getting an update to either 2.3 or 4.0.
