Motorola Pro announced for the EU Market! - Droid Pro General

Motorola just recently announced that Q2 2011 will see the introduction of the Droid Pro (to be named "Motorola Pro") for the European Market.

I live in the UK and as i just ordered a Verizon branded Droid Pro off Ebay I am definitely very excited about this! Means having the device pretty much before anybody else
The hardware seems to be pretty much untouched, too. That might hopefully trigger a wider attention and demand for ROM development for this device... I do hope it will be possible to flash the EU rom onto the Verizon devices to get a better overall radio performance.
Having a EU rom available might also just offer a lot more potential for many people that have ordered an de-activated/locked Verizon Droid Pro..

This is great news. I knew that the Pro would have very little custom ROM support, since it's such a niche device. At least now, there will be more people that buy it, so hopefully, we'll see some increase in interest from developers.

hope so too, mate since just got my one from the States...

Likewise man, im really loving this device.. its soo quick, and SUCH a big step forward coming from a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone..! The reception is "ok" i would say, could be better... waiting for the first EU roms for the pro/droid pro to hopefully sort that out!

No love for Canada?

So excited for you guys!

Canada needs love too.

Is there going to be custom ROMS for Galaxy S?

Galaxy S is a wonderful phone with many-many hardware advantages but with one major disadvantage, and it's called Samsung Software Support.
I really like this phone but I believe that Froyo will be the last update that Samsung is going to give, so i believe that the only hope of this phone is custom Roms
Nexus One have great cookers like to support it. Does anyone have the intention to do the same thing for Galaxy S?
If you are worried about that, then don't buy the Galaxy S now. Wait a month or two and see how it looks then?
regards
Thats what I'm going to do, I don't plan to buy it now, but I have my eye on it and I didnt find any info on the subject, so I made this thread.
hey m8, i know how "Bad" samsung support is and I don't wanna disagree with your opinion but seriously, what major improvements to you want? ginger bread? has it even been stated what ginger bread will improve? for now 2.1 and 2.2 will be good.... and I don't even keep the same phone for longer than 1-2 years, technology improves to fast, phones get slimmer and nicer.
you get my point this is the best out there, take it enjoy it hack it but dont plan on keeping it for a decade.
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, google said that in the next 6 months is going to amaze us. I believe that mean gingerbread.
I also believe that google has many innovations to show us with android so an upgradeable device is necessary.

True, true, but i mean at the very least some common and very easy bug fixes and stuff. I own the Omnia II and the only bug fixes come from cookers and very very few ppl who has privileged access to samsung new roms (and they "won't" tell where they get it from, so prolly insider roms imo).
By the way, what's that "amazing" thing google has announced??? hardware or software??
i think the "bad support" by samsung is exaggerated by people...
i would not call it bad support, if samsung releases updates to add the following long after the release of the phone (they could have said "we already got your money ... bad luck for you"):
they fixed photocontacts, then after it was fixed they changed photocontacts because people did not like the way it worked (but it worked nontheless)...
what company would change something after they just fixed it so it is not broken anymore ? that is really bad support, to hear the wishes and likes of how things should work (even if they are currently not broken).
then they gave us kinetic scrolling .. something that was never even mentioned as feature for the phone in the first place ...
i think its just greedy people who spend some money on a phone and now expect the manufacturer to keep it updated forever so it is always the best with all features that even where not invented when the phone initially was released ... go to work, earn some dollars and buy a new phone instead of expecting a company (whos target is to make money) to spend money just so you have the finest things for free without giving a dime for it and after that the spoilt users will still moarn that they did not get unlimited updates for free
If you check out their open source website, you will find Galaxy S' Kernel and driver. I'm not custom ROM developer, and dose not know about that well.
However, other XDA member said that this is enough to port other ROMs such as Sense UI.
According to Samsung Mobile twitter, Froyo will come 100%. Ginger-Bread is not clear.
I will buy Galaxy S. More people means More support from home cooker.
Gingerbread is going to come out next year. Google said they are going to only release an Android update once a year now. No one even knows what Gingerbread is going to offer next year so why worry about an update? Enjoy it now and enjoy it more when it gets Froyo.

Agreed lol!
the 2.1 on the sammy seems VERY usable, yes forever, not just for a year, because it has nearly everything we would need.
the more you get, the more you want.
I question whether people actually sit down and think. Some say "no 2.2 froyo = a failure".. while before it was "no 2.1 = a failure".. and before that no "1.6 = a failure". it's a foolish never ending cycle of wanting more more more even though each version is fully usable.
seriously what kind of comment is that, the phone has everything almost, even if it doesn't according to the person, it has enough for us to use it as a phone and camera and internet and mp3/video.
I hope people will realize what is on the sammy is enough (unless you want to install themes only that's cool).
Obviously not indicative of whether or not the GS will get Gingerbread, but as for bug fixes Samsung are apparently releasing GS firmware updates in Singapore:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2781948&page=95
From my own limited experience, there were several firmware updates for the Omnia I as well, although never an official upgrade from WinMo 6.1 to to 6.5 even though the phone could run it just fine (probably because they wanted to sell Omnia II instead).
Well, that's what i mean. I also had omnia, it's a very good phone that never got win6.5 officially even though it could.
That's what i'm afraid of with galaxy.
I expect many innovations with every new version of android so it would like to be able to have it in Galaxy s if im going to be an owner.
Lets hope that a great cooker is heading this way
Well, concerning Samsung's support, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be that bad. Samsung released Android 2.1 for the Galaxy Spica way before HTC has released Android 2.1 for the Hero. It's got a bed rep because of the way they handle the Behold I and II in the US and some Windows Mobile phones, and that's because they apparently don't want to support phones that haven't sold well (and probably because they have to pay for the Qualcomm drivers). Because the Galaxy S is probably going to be rather popular with its worldwide release and runs on Samsung's own hardware, I do think Samsung will supply us with an update, at least to Android 2.2.
As for ROM development: Samsung has provided us with the complete source of Android running on the Galaxy S, so it should be perfectly possible to develop ROMs once the device is rooted (which could even be accomplished with the HTC Incredible) and a bootloader can be used for it. At least, that's how far I've understood it.

Their Symbian phones didn't get the same love as well. I am afraid this is not restricted to one part of the world or one phone or two. It's just Samsung providing almost perfect hardware and crappy software.
The orphan approach is what Samsung keep doing. While, the community suppose to be the one adopting Samsung projects. This kinda lame and I really hate it.
Anyway, back to the topic (somehow).
Does anyone of you heard any news about Samsung Galaxy S Pro?
I am trying to hold for 1 month or two before getting my Android and I am not the type who changes his phone according to a season or his pair of shoes.
Hopefully, the keyboard version comes sooner than latter.
The next thing to wow us is probably gonna be phones with screens that can produce 3D effects
Probably not a good idea to compare how Samsung treats phones with an OS, they have/had to pay for(WM and Sybian) with one that's free(Android). Upgrading those payed for OS' might be much more expensive than the free OS. The higher the cost the less likely anyone would wanna upgrade, no?
Personally I think this is kinda silly. Is there any mobile manufacturer that has a really good trackrecord(aside from possibly Apple)? Seems people moan about the support, or lack of, from all of them...

I think HP used to produce quick update for windows mobile devices. However, they are charging for the update. That for windows 2003se to WM5.
I have bad experience with HTC. They take forever to update.
Another phone I have is O2 XDA mini. I never have any update since the device release.

regardless of the fact i see no reason for them not to upgrade to gingerbread i doubt very serious there would be much hardship, also knowing me if/when this come to t-mobile and i get it i know it will be rooted so im not worrying about updates on a company end.

1 - Apologies. I guess I didn't really press the "m" when I typed Symbian.
2 - It wasn't always, which is why I wrote "have/had" and included it. I don't even know, if Symbian was free when Samsung used it in the Omnia HD...

No one wants to help us!..for the moment anyway

I posted on a few X10 forums and on cyanogen to see if someone can give our devs a hand to crack the bootloader and the answer i got so far is not very promising:
Due to the limited availability of this phone (It's not available at ALL in the US, and only a few carriers have it in Europe), as well as the fact it's running 1.6, there isn't a wide userbase for it. As such, there aren't a lot of developers in that userbase, hence your cry for help. AT&T is supposedly picking this phone up for sale shortly, which will finally allow it to see US market adoption, but until that time, nobody can help because nobody can get access to one. I'm in that boat myself, I've been eying that phone since before I got my Nexus One last December, but now, well, I've moved on.
I wish you luck, and I think you'll see a few more developers pop up once it hits AT&T, but it's limited capabilities and lack of support by Sony Ericsson seems to be killing it in a lot of potential developer's minds already. Even the SE team at Google IO 2010 did little more than acknowledge its existence, and quickly change the topic to what SE has "coming later this year".
F**K!!! After this answer i am a little dissapointed and angry
It has been available on AT&T since Sunday, August 15th. There is no need to be concerned. There are devs working on the bootloader and the more people see and hear about this device the more devs will get involved.
The X10 is by far the best looking Android device (IMO). Also, I much prefer waiting for something stable than dealing with all the bugs and problems that occur when updates are rushed out. Just look at all the problems on the Galaxy S devices for a comparison.
All good things come to those who wait!

This is what the XPERIA X2 guys are saying...and they are still waiting. I don't understand the point in locking the bootloader. The X1 was infinitely moddable because of the unlocked bootloader...and xda was responsible for a lot of sales due to the developers. >:-(

Maybe ask the japanese community for help. I am sure the japanese have more x10 then all of the NA + european combine.
This is an asian phone, not an american phone. no point to cry on a market that establish itself on asian market.
Do you play japanese import console games? a lot japanese games are a similar example. Hate the japanese! Not us.
Nobody is crying and nobody is hating anyone.
Are you kidding me? SE sold more than 11 million phones across the world and looking at their portfolio more than 3 million of them must have come from X10 sales. It was the best selling phone in the UK for more than 6 weeks from launch.
Just dont put blame on the non avaibility of the phone for the Devs incompetence. Every Dev has tried to crack this phone icluding paul o brian and others.

Goodbye Moto, you suck & I hope we never meet again

I took delivery of my UK Xoom 3G on 2 May 2011 and fell in love with it. I knew it had bugs but I still loved it because love is blind.
I knew updates would come....I had a Google Experience Device so I just knew I wouldn't be left with a crippled device, so I kept on loving it.
Then 3.1 was released in the US. EXCELLENT I thought, in a couple of weeks we in the UK would also be shown some love by the mighty Motorola. It never came.
Other devices came late to the party and were given these mysterious software updates, my friends mocked me and my wife pleaded with me to get an iPad which would show me the same amount of love as I would give it, but I kept faith...I loved my Xoom you see.
Its now June 19th and Motorola have abandoned me, they refuse to talk to me and refuse to love me back, my poor beautifully built Xoom sits there happily force closing at every opportunity and I sit here pondering how my investment so full of promise has become a mere missed opportunity. How sad....Some relationships aren't meant to be and I for one will now be looking for a divorce. Bye Moto, I hope you can live with yourself
Sent from my Motorola Xoom 3G (now on Ebay)
I have a bit the same feelings like you...! I like my xoom really, but it piss me off that the NEW update policy of google only works in US well! Thats unfair, and this is one point why i would go to apple! Yes i have a lot of rules and things what i CANT do but i get allways software updates, for the next 2years / generations. And everyone gets the updates at the same time...!
And to Moto, Motorola should push google to deliver more update or make it like samsung to update apps over the market!!
For me at the moment, it was my first Moto device and the last one, maybee the last android...
I hoped you signed the petition floating around in here!!
Hay can you send it too me I would love to have a second Xoom. I see your selling it, oh well. Sounded like you should throw it in the garbage as bad as it is.
Edit:
My device works perfect I rarely if ever get FCs. My ***** is LTE. I understand that I am one of the very, very few whos device works perfectly. I don't know maybe its the user.

I knew you were going to take it that way because that's how people think. I was referring to me overclocking, unlocking and rooting. Having a device that I can play with and not one locked down. Thats what I mean by the user.
Let me ask you this:
Do you have an Android phone?
Let me also add this:
If you would have said that you were going to a Transformer or a HTC View then I would have thought it was the device. Instead you said a iPad which means its the operating system and using the device that you don't like. Maybe your Xoom is defective. Did you try getting it replaced?

Yes I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and its amazing. I also had a Dell Streak 5 and a Galaxy Tab (original) so am very used to the Android OS. I did not say I was getting an Ipad, I said my missus wants me to get one because she feels its the best available 10" finished tablet solution at the moment....
I have considered the Asus Transformer but I need 3G and a 3G version is not available yet. The Galaxy 10.1 is also not yet available in the UK. I do not feel confident rooting and installing custom ROM's and to be honest I shouldn't have to go down this route to get a working product, especially one which cost me £580

Ya it sucks that other country versions of the Xoom suck so bad that is lame. We don't do apple in our house as a matter of fact we don't even speak of it. Also I did not root to fix problems I root so I can overclock and backup my device. So basically you bring that baby home turn it on and its FC city, wow.
If you like your Xoom so much why havent you done what lots of others have done, Root it and Load the US Version, I have to say though its still not perfect.. There are no good Office apps out there so its far from being capable of being used for business. Facebook App force closes quite regularly, the mail app looks a bit mickey mouse and basic. What I wouldnt give for Thunderbird and Open Office on it!!!..
Non-US Xoom is not Google Experience device, thats what I read in many Xoom forum posts. So, thats why you dont get update directly from Google. I read from Moto forums that it will be updated in couple of months.
Granted, thats not good enough. Couple of months is way too long.

If i'd known on the 2nd May that it's wasn't a GED and updates would be this slow, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. I don't think anyone knew at that point!
People keep telling me to root and flash US ROM, but as well as losing my 3g and voiding my warranty, I'm not sure I want to risk it and why should I?

I'd be tempted to mention your dissatisfaction on the Motorola Facebook page too. Perhaps a little naming and shaming will push them a little harder, other than that, it may give other prospective European customers a little insight into the current support situation?
http://www.facebook.com/motorolaeurope
hey you guys I just popped in here from the transformer forum, I would think that google is not at fault with OTA updates only the state of 3.1 at the moment. my transformer was on 3.0 when it arrived on the first of June, and an update was available straight away. Ordered in the UK and shipped to spain. Same with my desire HD quickly updated to gingerbread. Its a Moto Thing.
Just glad Asus have gone down the same route as HTC, Great design and features just need the bugs in honeycomb ironing out now.
Just done mine this afternoon. Now on 3.1 with SD card support and 3G. Like you say though, shame I had to void my warranty in order to get a working device....
It really is a shame that moto has gone down this route of misleading its customers. I have owned a few android devices over the past 2 years from different manufacturers ; however the Xoom is my first device from moto and will most definitely be the last one from them.
The only reason that the US Xoom has gotten the 3.1 update (which isn't perfect, but addresses many of the 3.0 glitches) is because its backed by Google (GED)
Many many people outside the US have bought the Xoom fully expecting it to be a GED and rightfully so. Seems that once moto got their money the relationship was promptly ended.
I'm not sure if this applies to you, but over here, the Xoom does NOT come with the Google logo on the back.. this seems to be the indicator as to whether or not its a GE.

1. it's cheap and a power monster.
2. it's not sold out. it's just "booked out". like restaurant is booked fully does not mean all booked customers will go there for sure. i expect 50% people who got the mi phone bookings will place the order.
3. no use for non chinese user. cause few english based developers will have the phone. and a lot of translations, localizations need to be done.
4. quality and delivery time are unknown.

I suspect (or rather, hope) that the Mi2 will manage to find popularity, and maybe even official distribution outside China. There really isn't anything comparable coming to the RoW market at this kind of price point at the moment, so there will be a lot of interest from developers abroad.
I, for one, don't even like Miui, but if I could have that hardware running ported CM10 I'd be happy as a pig in s**t - especially given it's a 4.3" phone at 720p, and AFAIK the only other option is the Sony which is far more expensive and doesn't have the horsepower of the Mi2. I'm not really a fan of big screens, but I do like having all the pixels
Hey, maybe somebody will want to swap a Mi2 for my One X one day :victory:

Opinions about leeco

Hey guys, im looking for opinions about leeco and their smartphones, maybe some owners of previous devices? Long story short, i currently own nexus 6p, its a fricking awesome device, but i kinda grew bored of it, and battery life is not that great. I dont want to spend extra money on new toy, but by selling 6p i should get atleast 300euros, and for this money i have few options. Its either le pro 3, mi 5s plus, or 100euros extra for mi note 2. I pretty much know what to expect from xiaomi, but im completely clueless about leeco. Is there any development? I looked around forums of older devices, and they seem pretty dead I dont expect same level of development as nexus, but having few options, like miui or cm would be great, cause im already sure i couldnt stand stock rom lol. Also what about customer support? So any input is welcome, also any recommendations of above devices, thank you and sorry for long ass post lol
Currently, the bootloader of the US version of the Pro3 cannot be unlocked. There is a lot of negative comments about that on the forum. [http://forum.le.com/us/index.php?threads/unlock-bootloader.3682/
There is a positive first impressions post on the LeEco Pro3 XDA site. I'm conflicted - getting my phone tomorrow.
I have Le 1 PRO, to be honest it is a gamble. The devices are good but the support is terrible. If someone is not porting AOSP/CM to these devices they will have a very short life.
Le 1 series suffered some major faulty design problems in term of GPS/Wifi and so on. We moved to 6.0.1 only when series 2 came out.
Probably Le 3 series will receive n7.1.1 only after Le 4 series (if any) will be announced/sold, in the meantime you will have countless of useless update (clearly not on the camera since it will be too good).
I've seen some work on Le 2 series, hopefully there will be even more on Le 3 series.
As of now i'm not 100% regretting my choice (270 euros 1.5 years ago for Le 1 Pro) but it is literally a for-geek phone.
If you just want a top-spec phone to use at a great price the le pro 3 fits the bill.
If you want to tinker, probably any other unlocked phone will work better unless they decide to unlock the bootloader.
I've got no regrets so far for $299 us

If you get bored, but then also want the option of cm, I'm not sure how getting a new device will help you. You can have CM or miui now. And CM isn't exactly a grand departure from AOSP/CAF. It's relatively barebones android. Most phones these days are almost identical slabs. If you're gonna use the same OS as you had before, all you're really changing is the shape. Also, the Nexus is going to be your best bet for tinkering. Nexus or Pixel.
As for support, from what I understand LeEco isn't great when it comes to that. Whatever fashion you receive your device in, expect it to change VERY little. It also doesn't help that reports are popping up that the north american venture is coming up very short. Makes me believe they'll be pulling up stakes and going back to China. With the Pro3 currently locked, I'd say avoid it. If you want a toy phone to tinker with, the S3 might be a better choice. It's cheaper, already unlockable (or so people are reporting, I don't actually know myself), and if it receives any development, then it should be interesting. If you get it for $150, it isn't too much of a gamble.
If I were in your position, I'd steer clear. Especially if you were in the US on T-Mobile and can qualify for a Pixel half off through their promotion. At least that way you'll get wifi calling and some top-notch cameras. Either that or an Oppo. Since you're in europe, I don't know what the alternatives are. At least the chinese version is unlockable (the x720) but there's still the matter of development. And I think that'll be unlikely since CM development usually comes to US models.
I don't understand why you keep saying the bootloader is locked though, there is a user on this forum that had it unlocked on x727, LeTV also is officially stating on lemall site that the bootloader is unlockable

That option in developer menu does NOTHING. China model can be bootloader unlocked, us model no.

I've seen several folks in the US version discussion thread report that does NOT work, or -go command version either. So far Leeco are being dicks and not allowing it. Maybe an OTA will change that, and they just didn't want it being unlockable right away... No idea yet. I don't really mind the software that much, it's pretty nice, performs well and battery life is excellent expecially standby. But not even having root is quite a deal breaker. I'd return it just on that news but I don't have more money to replace it with anything else since I broke my X Pure that I was going to sell to offset the Pro3 price. Guess I'm stuck waiting for root and roms that so far looks like will never come. Still a great phone though, even signal and GPS are great which were my biggest concerns about it.

Yeah, not as good as a 6P for sure. It's like most cheaper cameras... Still great in bright light. Indoors not great. Low light, pretty bad. I've seen worse on more expensive phones though. It's better than my X Pure's camera.

This phone is great. So far so good. Coming from a GS5
Well like everyone else have said so far, the x727 can't be unlocked.
the x720 is quite another story, im sitting with TWRP, rooted and with xposed along with all the other great stuff.
The phone is outstanding quality, full metal unibody and all that jazz.
The Camera is uhm there? but it's overall not the best performer, you can take some nice shots in daylight but that's about it.
i installed a custom version of EUI to remove the bloatware, and i'm currently rocking the leaked pixel launcher on top, so far so good.
The only other rom for this phone is MIUI, which is having some issues (atleast for me) with 4g LTE, it just locks itself onto 3g and HSPA+
My dream is a CM based rom sometime in the near future.
