Hi everyone,
I would like to hear what changes you noticed if you have made the transition from Liberated R12 to Liberated FroYo FR007.
I don't know anything about kernels, setcpu or stuffs like that — I'm just a regular fella who love coffee and just made a proper installation of FR007 2 days ago and reverted back to R12 today because:
1. I noticed that its' performance is a tad slower (I think).
2. eBuddy kept crashing, mostly after the phone goes to sleep.
3. Wi-fi network stopped after phone goes to sleep (but it was already noted in the thread to download FR007).
4. Responsiveness isn't quite as nimble (ie. swiping between homescreens, launching apps, connecting to networks, etc).
5. It hangs quite a bit
While it may have some drawbacks, there are also some nice things that came with the FR007 ROM, most noticeably:
1. Better UI interfaces
2. More options in some features/settings
3. Cooler OS name (what's cooler than Frozen Yogurt?)
I bet there are much more powerful stuff and greater potential in the FR series that most regular users like myself won't understand, and that this is just the precursor/preview to a stable version. However at the moment it's R12 vs FR007.
So at the moment I'm going to stick with R12 and patiently wait for future releases of the FR series.
What are your observations? Thanks for sharing!
Each to their own! I'm using FR007 on my Aria which was purchased in USA and the only problem I have is sometimes the Weather Widget sometimes hangs. That's all.
I, too, am running FR007, however my ebuddy hasnt crashed at all for me. I do notice a little bit of lag swiping homescreens but having a LWP on would affect that for sure.
i havent noticed a hang unless im tryin to multitask several apps around.
Those are pretty small issues for me for my previous phone was the Hero CDMA.. and this is like a million times better.
I agree with most of what you're saying. I've been using FR007 for a while now, but I feel like it's a little slower than R012 was. I turned off the LWP and I'm using LauncherPro, but it skips and jerks a little more than R012 did on homescreens.
Still debating whether I want to switch back, I just don't want to not have Froyo on there. I do like the apps and features that Froyo provides (Gmail upgrade, etc)

WiFi sleep policy may be defaulted to "After 15 minutes". Look into Menu>Settings>Wireless & networks>Wi-Fi settings>Menu>Advanced>WiFi sleep policy. That is one buried setting!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone.
I am still running on R12 and everything is running smooth as a babys' butt! Gonna keep rocking with this at the moment.

I believe that Liberated FRxx ROM is waiting for HTC to release the 2.6.32 Froyo kernel source for the Aria/Gratia to see how to fix the trackball wake issue.
The trackball wake is working in CM 6.1 RC2.
Hello,
I've been flashing for a long time and currently I'm running Bionix 1.2. I've got 2 major problems and I have a workaround for each; however I thought the community might know better than me.
The first one is about the signal bars and dropped calls. I live in an area (Maine) where you never experience a dropped call since there aren't many people living. At least with my old MyTouch and stock Vibrant, I never had one. So almost once a day I drop call and see the all the signals gone. Sometimes, I see signals but there is no data or GSM connection since I cannot login to GTalk and other services (FB, twitter, etc.). I read in the development section that turning flight mode on/off can help. Well for me, it sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't. I find myself rebooting to solve the problem at least. I am a little concerned since I might need my cell in case of an emergency and I definitely would not want to wait for a reboot to call 911.
The second one is about the GPS. If I open navigation and ask for turn-by-turn directions, almost every time, it gets stuck searching for GPS. The workaround for me is to launch Maps, wait a few minutes to locate my location; then ask for directions. Although, this might not work from time to time. Again, in the middle of nowhere, you are driving and need a quick and dirty turn-by-turn directions and your smart Vibrant makes you go thru a lot of hassle to accomplish your task.
Any advice from our community?
Thank you!
Flash to stock, call t mobile and tell them your gps is non functional even after the froyo update, and get an exchange. My gps works INSTANTLY. Cold. I type my destination in Navigation and when I press enter my navigation is already talking. No maps, no 10 minutes, no downloads, we all know these are often placebos and we are still waiting and waiting for a signal which can still go off road randomly, etc. none of that with a new phone.
I did not try the physical gps fix in the forums but that could work too. Your gps still not be fixed by software, its a hardware problem. It seems phones manufactured after October (?) do not have the gps issue. Worth the hassle for me, at no cost if you do it for the gps issues and there is no physical damage to your phone. Just make sure you flash back to stock before you call because they will ask you to go through your system information on the line. Back up EVERYTHING and put it on a computer, get your exchange and flash back to your favorite rom and enjoy your now fully functional Vibrant that works in every way you bought it to work. And make sure you not only factory reset before you send the old one in, but also delete anything incriminating on your internal sd because a factory reset won't do it.

Don't blame the rom...Your hardware sucks.
Been running TW roms since the Bionix 1.0 days and NEVER had any issues.
Those problems are not inherent to TW roms, it's a problem with the phone.
@TheSneakerWhore, @deadpass:
OK - it might the hardware, but how do you explain no dropping calls on stock 2.1? I've used on stock for at least couple months and never had to reboot my phone because it did not have signals (or had signals but no connection).
I also flash Axura roms and never have a similar issue but they are too customized for me.
PS: I am not trying to blame the TW roms specifically nor am I defending another rom. Actually, if you open the latest Development thread, you will see my post thanking those guys because of an excellent job they've done. I am just not happy with the data and GPS - which I never had an issue before starting flashing TW and thinking others might be experiencing the same.
Strangely my GPS and cell signals seem stronger on TW ROMs than most others... It might be just slightly different hardware (not all units are created 100% equal after all) reacting differently to the software?
Have you perhaps tried Trigger v1.5? I thought the theming was very tasteful, you may like it, and it seemed pretty solid on GPS and signals.
Thanks, @Oxirane. I will give it a try.
I would try out different modems. For instance jl5 and kb1 great with gps in my case. jfd, ji6, ka5-7 all were teh suck when it came to gps. It all depends on your phone and location too. So flash away and find whats right for you.

I lol'd @ this "I live in an area (Maine) where you never experience a dropped call since there aren't many people living."
I'm with the OP on the drop call and inconsistent data issue. By all means, I have flashed almost every ROM out there. Every single ROM on here is awesome and all respects to the devs. I'm currently on Bionix 1.2 now for the third time and what I have and still noticed is the inconsistent data drop 2-3 times a day. No biggie since I managed to turn airplane off and back on and everything's back to normal. At first I thought it was KB1 that's causing this so I decided to try out different modems/kernals. After playing around a bit, I decided to stay with KA6 for a few days and noticed data improvement but still inconsistent (loss data connection). I also flashed the ROMs (Axura and Einherjar) and I don't have the data loss. I also flashed all the way back to Nero 5 just to check it out. I do not have any data problems with Nero 5. Anyways, I don't really mind every now and then switching air plane mode off/on. However, the issue as mentioned by OP does exist on some phones.
I'm running Bionix V 1.2, and the last 4 ROM's before this were all also TW ROMs.
I have not experienced a single one of your issues. My phone is fast, smooth, and have excellent signal and data everywhere around my area.
I doubt it is the ROM, but I'm no expert and cant say that for a definite.
But if myself along as many others , including a few buddies of mine, don't see those issues it just seems unlikely to be the ROM.
But who knows....
Well im guessing its the change of modems that's causing your issues... im sure it has nothing to do with the rom espeically since you never had issues supposedly when using Axura (since axura is based on bionix). Almost all the roms on here are based on TW roms, just change modems, theme, add a few random options, from what i've seen in the code. Like other suggested tryin flashing different modems and find the one that works best for your area. I've been running Bionix V 1.2 since day one and have not experienced any of the issues you have describbed...

I know your not trying to act up or anything, but thats kind of just mean.
I mean these devs are helping us by giving us more options.
Most of them aren't based on TW.
some are, most aren't.
but your saying "almost all the rom on here are based on TW Roms, just change modems, theme, add a few random options"
I'd like to see YOU edit the modem and theme and add a few random options and make a ROM. go ahead.
I can say that TW is also just editing a few codes and theming on a ROM that Samsung made, and that they aren't developers.
TW set a standard, a precedent, and people will follow it, but they aren't copying it.
not complaining at all to any ROMs. just throwing out my input to let the OP knows that he's not alone in this world. To me, if there's a way around the problem, the problem is minor. Besides, I flashed and used different ROMs like changing diapers. LOL. I like to keep my Vibrant looked different every 2-3 wks. Pretty soon, we'll see a flow of new ROMs and I be all over every single one of them like "flies on sh!t". Dang, haven't used that expression in a long time. LOL

there is not "editing of modems" its changing modems... and theming is nothing more then changing pngs and .9s and edit xmls... its not very difficult... time consuming but not difficult. as far as what TW does to their roms in decompiling smalis and editing the Java, i've personally only seen a handful tru developers here actually doing it to what samsung has leaked. MOST of these so called roms have taken the edits that TW has done and just dropped their own changes on top of them. This has been proven time and time again! but regardless you are entitled to youre own opinions.
My point is that Axura IS based on TW's edit so if the issues persist in TW rom but not in Axura, one of the causes would most likely be due to the modem cuz im 99% sure that several Axura roms use different modems.... that is all i was trying to say.
One thing I have not seen in any of the posts that are having the issue is what modem you are using.
I will say it now, KB1 modem sucks monkey balls. I haven't had any dropped calls on it, but have stale connections all the time. What I mean by that is, my phone is sending data packets, but isn't receiving any for a good 30 seconds.
So, try a different modem. KA5 seems to be the best modem for signal and battery life.

THX Krylon360. To be perfectly honest, I tried different ROMs and modems and noticed some significant improvements. I totally agree that KA5 and KA6 are better for me in terms of signal hence KA6 is what I stick with as mentioned in my previous response.
surprisingly, these problems can come up from odd combos of apps or some configuration that is unique........ Lucky you
I had some phone disconnects on my phone when it was on a TW and Eugene kernel, but it was a custom mms I installed that caused the issue..... so you might look at what you got on your phone as well. Remember, some of the app developers did not or do not update their apps and this may cause an issue especially running a 2.2 platform (especially a ported 2.2 platform) if they are older apps. Food for thought
I was having the same issues with 1.2. dropped calls, no data, constantly switching from edge to 3g, etc. had no issues with nero. As everyone said, try a different modem. Worked for me.

Thanks everyone! krylon360, I should have mentioned the modem I've been using: KA5. So, it's weird how you and some others find KA5 and KA6 to work best and I had all these problems with it. Maybe it really is a unique combination of apps, configuration etc.
Last night I flashed KB1 and will give it a try for a few days. I tried GPS on my way to home; opened Navigation and entered directions, and I got instant lock. I see that as an improvement. Will follow closely. Thanks again!

There's nothing wrong with the roms i been flashing since i got my vibrant once flashing do you wait the initial 10 mins and then reboot before you start using your phone? if not you may want to try that. TW roms are pretty much flawless.
Hello everyone, I'm having a few problems with eb13 I havnt seen in any of the bug threads, forgive me if I overlooked. But anyway, compared to di18 the dropdown notification bar is very stuttery and laggy whenever the menu is slid down. I'm also seeing a touchscreen responsiveness delay in any scrolling menu. The fps of the scroll is fine but it seems to take the epic a half a second longer to relize that your finger has moved on eb13. I have flashed the new rom every possible way, odin, samsungs exe, update.zip from di18. It also applies to every eb13 custom rom I've tried so far as well as the stock rom, but not the miui rom or cyanogen beta1. I'm just curious to see if anyone else is seeing the same problem as me or if its just my phone. Thanks for any input, this is driving me crazy.

im not getting alot of panning lag. Seems the same as eclair. But the stop down drawer is jerky and stutters alot. Eclair was very smooth, don't know why froyo does that. I mentioned it several times when the initial leaks were available. Pretty much ppl said that its beta so most likely it will be better on the official release. Well... Here we are.. Still jerky.
ever since eb13 I have noticed way too many fingerprints on my screen
Nope. My phone flies. Running SuperNova w/ Gingerbread theme on EXT4.
both of those issues seem to me to be the difference between a set rate or maybe a couple that the dropdown and the app list move at... on DI18. It seems froyo is more responsive to what your finger actually does, than just go 'ok, drop down at X rate'... could be just me... most roms I have tried are awesome that way... I like that its really responsive.... like the dropdown for example, if you slide your finger up 1/3 of the way, if follows the speed of your finger, pull away at that point and it continues at a set speed... I kind of like it... it seems like the stutter is where your finger leaves the screen, if I go all the way to the top, as fast at I can with my thumb in a normal grip on the phone, it does seem like it could use some framerate, or maybe its hitting little increments along the way... idunno... I like it better to be able to throw it up there fast than watch it nice and smoothly take a second.
for the record, on midNIGHT ROM, Genocide Kernel, 200-1200 on SetCPU, conservative scaling- dont remember stock EB13 being too much different in this particular case...
While I don't seem to get lag when scrolling, when it's not plugged in, it does take a second or so for the power button to register a press and wake the phone up.
Oddly enough, when plugged in, it turns on instantly.
Ok let me start off by saying I am NOT a dev. I am just a normal guy who can ocasionally follow instructions off the internet. I was able to get MIUI for the i9000 booted on my Captivate. This MIUI rom is ported over from the Nexus.
All I did was followed the instructions from the MIUI thread in the i9000 forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992251
Just subsitute the captivate equivalent files from CM7. After you do these steps and Flash MIUI Beta 3 it will install a i9000 kernel and modem. You will have to go after the initial steps and install a captivate CM7 Kernel and Modem.
I wont be updating this thread, because I don't have the time. If a Dev wants to streamline this more for the captivate please do. I just wanted to share some info on how I got the MIUI from the i9000 thread running on my captivate. Fill free to use this thread for any MIUI related banter that can further help this Rom run smoother on our phones.
what are the bugs?
like I said I wont be updating this thread at all. I just wanted to let some know that it is possible to get it working on the captivate. to get a full bug list you will either have to install the rom yourself and figure out or wait for someone to report a list. what I have seen so far though is ringtones, and autorotation. I haven't played with it too much, but I was able to fix the ringtone issue be using a rintone app from the market download a ringtone. Also I believe the i9000 thread has a what is and what isn't working list also.
For people who where begging for MIUI this looks to have allot more promise. And it is gingerbread. Have not tried it out yet
CM7
I installed it on my Captivate and its actually running pretty smoothly, in fact its actually pretty fast I haven't even seen any lag. I'm on beta 4.
Here is what works:
-Texting
-Wi-fi
-Browser
-SD cards
Not working:
-I'm having problems downloading apps from the market, they don't seem to be downloading but if download the app you want then reboot the phone the app will be successfully installed.
-The sound only works if you plug the headphones into the phone and when you do that the sound comes from the speaker and not the headphones, however if you plug the headphones only about half way in then the sound will come out of the headphones.
-The sound problem does have an effect with the phone calls because the person on the other line can hear you but you can't hear them on the account of the headphones not being plugged in.
-The back key and search key are not working I guess because its made for another phone but idk. The home key acts as a back key. The menu key works fine.
-If you want to auto-rotate the screen then you'll have to go to the notification bar and tap the auto-rotate icon to turn it on, it does not automatically do it when you turn your phone over.
That's all I got, idk if there is a setting for the sound problem or something but I can't get it to work properly.
Just wanted to tell you guys how much Miui was working on our cappys and hopefully it can be fully working rom in some time.

This looks promising. Don't most i9000 ROMs have these issues when installed as-is onto a Captivate? Seems like it could be ported over just like most other i9000 ROMs.
But then again I'm no dev, and I could be completely and terribly wrong.

Ok so ill reflash that...Ill also have to flash a cm7 modem right? know where I can find that?

I tried it yesterday, hence the reason for this thread lol, but didn't really like it. Went back to CM7 with launcherpro plus. I missed my LP Plus widgets too much.
lol im just suprised how this thread isnt that popular
It'll get more popular as things get sorted out with the ROM itself. I've been running it for the last couple days (since beta 2), and if you install the CM7 Captivate kernel and a compatible modem (I like JL3), it's really pretty stable. The apps don't see media files, and afaik there are still some SD card issues, but if you can get past those it's not that hard to use as a daily.

It was/is very much a daily driver since data/phone/wifi all work, I just didn't like the feel of it. It took me back to my iPhone days which started to scare me a bit. lol
Yep I think jl3 works the best, I now have the rom pretty much fully functional and I just installed another media player app so it could find my music. MIUI is really amazing looking
Eh it does look like the iphone kind of but I was just getting tired of all the same "looking" roms and wanted something different
Interesting. CM7 has been without a nightly for a few days, I'm up for something new
So once we get the i9000 version running, just go into odin and flash a CM7 captivate kernel/modem? That should fix all the i9000->captivate issues, correct?
Is anyone else noticing erratic characteristics from the compass while getting a GPS lock with GPS Status/Toolbox?
Can this be one of the problems contributing to my horrible battery life in MidNIGHT 6.0?
In my defense, I did do some searching, both google and within XDA before i posted...
TIA!
Huta
so i guess it's just me then... hmm
Gps is not as accurate for me as well but it still works. The battery problem is most likely the cpu always being used around 35%.

I've had the same issue with mine, I initially was on EC05 stock with CWM 3.0.2.5 then flashed "Swiss Cheese Samsprint" ACS EE03 ROM, and Odin the Modem to EE03 which broke my GPS, I flashed the ACS EE03 GPS Fix, and I get that same icon but no GPS lock, I figured it was the ROM but same thing happened on Midnight ROM 6.0 and also on Gingered 0.07. I stayed at Gingered 0.07 which is basically a combo of Swiss Cheese and Midnight. I probably could get it to work if i downgraded modem and rom back to ec05 stock and lock gps signal before i flash the EE03 modem but im lazy, I dont use GPS all that much anyway.
I am currently using Midnight 6.0, and I have GPS issues, but my battery life is great.
My compass has ALWAYS been essentially useless. Once in a while I can get it calibrated so its KINDA accurate (I'd hate to be lost with the thing and actually NEED to use it, it'd be useless), but I've never had it working well.
As far as GPS goes, I've had it be pretty good when it works (SFR 1.1.0, now 1.1.1) although there was a "crashing" issue where you'd have to relaunch navigation to get it to reinitialize. That being said, 1.1.1 has a fix to prevent this (still testing, seems good so far).
One thing I noticed which I find very interesting. The EE03 Gingerbread leak gave me THE MOST AMAZING GPS PERFORMANCE EVER. I couldn't believe it was the same phone. Immediate locks, never lost a lock (even under a bridge!). That's with both ROM and Modem on EE03. Compass still seemed screwed, which is a damn shame (because it makes me think its just crappy hardware that will never be fixed.
As much as I love this phone, seriously, it's like 9 months since release and we're JUST NOW getting GPS to work right? I love our devs, and they seem to make much better headway but jesus christ, how bad is samsung at their job that a) we're still talking about this bug in STOCK roms 9 months later and b) we clearly have evidence that it CAN be fixed (problems not in hardware).
Now I have a very difficult decision to make. Do I get the Evo3D with potentially terrible battery life (my mom's thunderbolt only lasted til 1pm basic phone/sms) and mediocre camera, or do I try out the S2 hoping samsung's learned their lesson...
Still nothing...
I have tried all 3 Leaked Gingerbread ROMs. I tried the acs ee03 modem + gps fix, with everyone of them. I'm still getting no GPS signal. The icon blinks on the bar! the phone recognizes a signal, I no longer get the warning after I install "the fix" but it still constantly searches in Navigation or any other App. Has anyone figured anything out?

Yeah i forgot who quoted this, but i remember someone saying they opened up google maps after Odin'ing the EC05 Stock rom THEN they flashed everything else, EE03 Modem last. That worked for me, however i still have the funkified compass, even MyTracks cant correctly orient me when I'm jogging, despite knowing my location by 3 meters.

couple threads down from yours... its basically the GPS fix for DK28... start at stock ec05, get a lock, root, get a lock, odin modem, get a lock, flash any of the ee03 ROMs... should get a lock. As far as the compass goes, not sure. Get spare parts, do wifi sleep never or at least never while plugged... maybe resort to juice defender for now... theres only so much the wizards can do without source.
Try the upside down calibration (menu/settings/display/Horizontal Calibration) before giving up on the compass. For some reason, since Froyo, the pitch axis came up -180 degrees.
This is how to fix your gps.
