In conjunction to the post, "blue tint problem," which isn't really a problem but anyway....
I thought it'd be interesting to create a poll to see where everyone's at with their Vibrants.
Please participate in the poll, it'll be very interesting to see...
So if you're on the blue side or yellow side, obviously submit yours accordingly, however, for neutral that's for those who have calibrated monitors that can get true comparisons to determine if it's neutral.
There's no need to lie here LOL..it's just for fun so the more accurate it is the better. Don't just click neutral if you don't really know for sure. Try comparing your phone first with other Vibrants to be sure.
Here we go!
It's slight blue, but related to viewing angle and screen brightness. Viewing straight on, it's pretty neutral.

I know what you mean. Could the SAMOLED screen perhaps slightly change in its color tone as it warms up?
When I fired up the two Vibrants I have that was turned on for the first time and compared it to my other two which has been in use, the two never been used phones screen looked identical in its tone/shade.
So perhaps over time it does change as it, "breaks in?"
Does anyone know if this blue tint will get better with time? Mine seems to be the same, wondering if I should exchange my phone.
Well, mine is more cyan, though I can understand people calling it blue and it's driving me crazy. Even with brightness all the way up, there is no real white. This issue will likely cause me to return my Vibrant - along with the cheap build quality - as my Nexus screen looks much better and neutral in comparison. Even my wife noticed it immediately though she also has a Nexus.
Neutral, I've compared with monitors and other Vibrants from my T-Mobile store.
The blue should fade over time..sometimes they put in a bit of extra blue to compensate the blue's lower life span..if you want to even it out use a blue background as your home screen for a while and it should even out >.>

Are you sure it will fade? Where did you get that info from, I know wikipedia talks about this and says the same thing, but wikipedia is not really that accurate. Where did you get your info?
I downladed an LCD test app from market, i'm running a constanst blue screen hoping it will help fade out the blue tint a bit. thanks

When compared to mine my wife's had a very strong blue tint to it. Since I ordered ours over the phone I called Tmobile. They overnighted me a replacement without any hassle, I'd give them a call and see what they will do for you.
posted this in the other "blue tint" thread too
"...since the OLED material used to produce blue light degrades significantly more rapidly than the materials that produce other colors, blue light output will decrease relative to the other colors of light...In order to delay the problem, manufacturers bias the colour balance towards blue so that the display initially has an artificially blue tint, leading to complaints of artificial-looking, over-saturated colors..."

I agree, stupidest topic ever. I thought I seena blue tint but now its gone. And as fast as the nexus screen looking nicer...my friend had his over the other day and it looks dull compared to the vibrant.
I guess if your imagining a blue tint, or don't know how to change screen settings them maybe you need a less advanced device.

I guess if you did not receive a defective Vibrant with an extremely blue screen, even with brightness all the way up and power saving mode off, your not qualified to speak for those who did. Of course it would not make sense to you.
i dont know about you guys but every time Ive ever seen a white LED its always had a blueish tint (like automotive LED's) its really not that big of an issue
My display was noticeably blue the moment I turned it on... going to the T-Mobile store today to see if I can get a better unit with a more neutral color temperature.

It matters to some people more than others. If it doesn't bother you then great. It's not really fair to criticize people who are bothered by it--one should have a reasonable expectation for color accuracy of their display, especially for a device so touted as being a multimedia powerhouse.

I'm a graphic designer. I work with colors for a living every day. I've come to think that I have a pretty decent grasp of color.
Like I said, if you can't tell or it doesn't bother you or your handset isn't afflicted--great! But please don't dismiss the complaints of others simply because you "can barely tell the diff". ****
I have that issue with the blue screen and for some reason I'm the only one who sees it, I work for T-Mobile and I was showing my co-workers that there is a blue tint to the screen and they didn't see it it until I compared it to another phone. I'm also a graphic artist and I guess we see colors that others don't notice cuss we have too that's what we do. I also had a issue with the screen, there was some pixelation on my screen so I exchanged it.

You know, some people here say every Super Amoled has a blue tint. I have to disagree. I've been comparing my vibrant side by side to other vibrants, and the screens vary from phone to phone. Samsung deffinately has some manufacturing inconsistences. Side by side to other Vibrants, my screen has a very visible dark grayish blue tint. Other vibrants have a slight blue/green tint. While other vibrants i've compared to have gorgeus warm whites. 1 vibrant had a very dingy yellow look to all the whites. So this is not in our imagination, the screens vary a lot on these phones.
My cousin just got the vibrant this morning, she had not seen mine. She saw mine this morning and says "why is your screen blue?" Put mine side by side next to hers, and hers has nice warm bright whites. All of our brightness settings were identical.
I'll be exchanging shortly when I have time.

So, does your replacement still show the blue screen tint?
I just got an Epic.
Reading several threads across the Galaxy line, there is apparently a variation in screen color temperatures. From my readings, I see a pattern where perhaps the newer/replacement units have yellower screens. At the same time, those newer units also get darker in auto brightness mode than the older units.
From my own observation, the color temp gets cooler as the brightness increases.
Is it possible that Samsung tweaked the auto brightness so that the phone now gets darker in order to save the battery? So perhaps the different color temp observed are a function of how bright the screen is?
I don't care for the yellowish screen on my new Epic. I like a cooler/colder screen. Comparing the Epic next to my LCD Evo and Touch Pro 2, it is outright yellow. Comparing the 3 phones next to my Nexus One, the N1's screen looks pink. (I can post some pics tomorrow).
Bottom line, I'm trying to decide if I should try to return/exchange the phone for another and hope for the best. I read that there are some potential software solutions out of XDA, but I prefer to have a phone that is natively "cold".
Any input would be great.
Thanks.
Mine's pretty yellow. :-( In brighter light, it is not a problem. Darker screen is the result of a software update. Got mine on launch day.

Thanks for the information. Before the software update, when the screen didn't get as dark, did it appear less yellow at the [pre-update] low brightness?
In other words, does the screen now look more yellow than ever since the update and darker screen?
Cheers.
I got my Epic on Oct 1st, and I haven't noticed this yellowish at all, but maybe I need to do a thorough side by side with an older model?
Did you get any pics to post up yet? I'm interested to see this
Edit: Sorry, just saw you said you can't post pics until tomorrow.

Just as yellow as always. Post-update, the screen dims more. At this point, it appears yellower. My Captivate also now dims more, post-update, and seems bluer at dimmest setting.

The only time I've had problems with my screen was when my phone had gotten damage from water. I'm on my 2nd epic and this one doesn't have any yellowish tints. Only about a week old now.

I picked up my Epic on 9/29 and don't see any yellow tint at all. I'm not an expert here but I think I would notice a tint like that. My blacks are very clear and dark also. I did notice that it seemed to run on auto brightness a little darker than it had...that was probably the D-118 update after I had it for only a few days.
I will follow this thread and see where it goes.
I don't think the screen color variation is based on release date. I have two of them since 8/30. One of them has a yellowish tint compared to the other. They both have the same DI18 update.
It seems like a coin-toss what screen color comes. I wish we have a tool that would allow easy color temperature adjustment.
I read a thread about a way using a modified kernel, but it would be nice to have an .apk that works (even if it requires root).
I got one on launch day that had more of a blue tint to it. I got another one last week that was a refurb, and it definitely is more yellow.
Weird. I just got mine today and it's very cool (read: blue) compared to my Evo... being a photo guy, this drives me nuts. I prefer warmer diplays.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I have one of the cooler screens, and I kinda like it.
My thoughts:
1) Samsung is trying to extend the life of the blue oLEDs by altering the color temperature of screens. Since this seems to be happening independently of ROM version, it's probably something they're doing with firmware.
2) (IMO More Likely) The screens on different phones came from different assembly lines or different production runs, and have a slight variance in color production. The production date of the phone wouldn't necessarily matter in this case.
The only project I know that deals with the color temperature of the screen is voodoo:
http://project-voodoo.org/color
I currently have it running on my ROM. It adds a new "very low" brightness setting a the bottom that's much dimmer than even the lowest one available in DI18. (Note: it doesn't interpolate levels between them, either. Meaning there is a big jump in brightness from the voodoo lowest level to the DI18 lowest level, which is the next "notch" up on the slider.) It also adds a brightness level at the very highest brightness, which noticeably makes the display warmer. (The highest and next-to-highest brightness notches are the same brightness, the difference being the highest one is warmer.) At this point of its development, it's really of no use if you want to make your screen warmer at all brightness levels.
At any rate, the project leads me to believe that, with further development, we could have an app that allows us to freely change all the color settings for the display for all brightness levels, save them to profiles, etc.
The idea of the screen getting warmer as you decrease its brightness might be a natural phenomena, or just perceptual. In my experience, colors usually seem warmer as you decrease the intensity of the light. This is even true of light on a physical object.
My screen looks awesome. No yellowing or anything. I wonder if there is a difference based on who made the screen for that particular Galaxy S phone? I remember reading an article when all the Galaxy S phones started rolling out saying that Samsung was having trouble with the manufacturing of the AMOLED screens. Perhaps they started cutting corners.
However, there also seems to be issues with auto-brightness, etc...I have that disabled on my phone and the brightness set on its lowest setting (which is plenty bright for me and all my viewing needs) which may be the difference? But, I have cranked it up from time to time just to show others and I still don't notice any yellowing.
Is there a specific test image or something where one could view that would show/exaggerate the effect people are talking about? I would be curious to see...
Thanks for the great input and information.

Should help in this case once Froyo arrives
Here is a quick picture taken by a Touch Pro 1. Sorry about the quality. I can try to take better ones if there is interest.
From left to right - Evo, Epic, Nexus 1, Touch Pro 2. All with auto-brightness on.
In real life:
The Evo looks whiter (cooler)
The Epic looks much yellower (warmer, almost greenish)
The N1 doesn't look as pink as it appears, but looks the darkest
The Touch Pro 2 looks the whitest (coolest)
To my eyes, the Evo/Touch Pro 2 looks good. Although the picture shows the Epic looking pleasant and only slightly warmer, the white elements (clouds in wallpaper, browser backgrounds etc.) look yellow/green.
Edit: Notice the Menu, Home, Back, Search menu LEDs look whiter than the screen. See the contrast between the two makes the screen look yellower.
I've owned 3 Epics since launch day. First one had a good screen, 2nd one had a yellow tint, 3rd was perfect.
The build dates of the first 2 were 10.08 and my current one is 10.09.

By perfect, do you mean that it is not yellowish? It's interesting that the first two phones with the same build date has two different color screens...
The Epic I have has a 10.10 build date. It's yellow at dimmed levels and color temp gets cooler as it brightens up.
Hi everyone,
I'm starting this thread to show you guys that not all Nexus S AMOLEDS are the same. I purchased a Nexus S on launch day from one store, and my brother bought a nexus S from another best buy store. We were comparing each others phones, and mine turned out to be darker than his, specifically the whites. We compared our screens at full brightness, and we set the same backgrounds, and his was noticeably better looking. So I went and exchanged mine, the new one I got still suffered from having darker whites, but it was not as bad as the first one, so when we compared them again, his was still better. I took a few pictures of the new one i got compared with his (on right). It may not look like much, but if you look at it in person, it's very noticeable when they are next to each other. I think you guys should compare your nexus s with a display model at a store, or with someone else to see what I'm talking about. I think it's easiest to see what i'm talking about if you look at the search widget. Like I said the first one I had was worse, but I'm comparing the newly exchanged one (left) with my brothers (right).

lol thats true. it made me laugh lol
download a solid white wallpaper. set the brightness to the highest. if one of them is cool blue white then this is good screen. if its warm yellowish white, then its a bad screen.
also there is the issue with pinkish disaplay. download a solid gray wallpaper. set the brightness to the lowest, if the gray turns to pink a little. you have a defective screen no matter what others tell you. if it stays gray " like my old Samsung Galaxy S " then you have a perfect screen.
AND there is also the grid pattern matrix you can see on the lowest brightness on the same gray wallpaper. ALL of them are more visible on the Super Amoled screens, just try to get one that is not very noticable.
if you got all those 3 perfectly " with no dead pixels or stuck pixels. then your phone worth alot.
i sold my galaxy S USED more than i bought it NEW because of these effects when i mentioned them to the buyer and he saw with his own eyes the difference. plus it didnt have single scratch on the whole phone so it was like a brand new.

No one's nitpicking. It's a matter of what you're willing to settle for. I paid my 580.00 for a phone to display the colors correctly. I didn't pay that much for the display to change colors just because I lower the brightness.

ya, after i took pics, i realized they were not on the same page on the home screen.
This is a very common issue on the Galaxy S phones too. Different suppliers are used in the manufacturing process resulting in some screens with warmer color temps, and others with cooler ones. The Engadget review of the Nexus S specifically called out a warmer temp by the way.

Dumb question, but did you verify that the brightness levels in settings are set to the same values? Or at least compared the two phones when at the lowest and highest settings?

ya, i actually made sure they were both brightest, and when they are both on the lowest, you can tell one of them displays brighter whites. But the first one I had was worse than the one I have in the pictures on the left, it's hard to notice that you have a screen that does not produce nice whites, unless you see another nexus s that does a better job.
I actually like the ones on the left, the ones on the right crush the blacks, resulting in basically everything washed out, even if it "looks" better to you, it isn't from a calibrator prospective.
The Evo 4G had the same thing going on with its display. HTC used 2 different Manufacturers for the screen, One Novatec, One Was Epson. I believe the Novatec panel had darker colors (warmer?) resulting in more of a purplish color on blacks (what ll_l_x_l_ll calls pink for whatever reason) While the epson didnt have any purplish tone, but most say had a washed out look.
I would say though that on the nexus S, probably 99% of them are going to have a little purplish effect on the lowest brightness setting. If the OPs brothers phone has no purplish color, that would be the first i have seen. Ive seen many many demo units, several video reviews, and even the 2.3 rom ported to other galaxy S phones, and they all have the "purplish" display.
All my whites on my phone are really white, and blacks are really black.
Only be concerned if your screen looks like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882862
That would definatley warrant an exchange, because they are NOT supposed to look like that.

Yeah my camera isn't great, it was poor light but it was enough to show the difference.
My i9000 screen is pretty incredible, I'd be impressed if I saw one better.
Oddly though, you say that if it turns blue when the brightness is turned right up, it's a good screen - my Nexus S does that. But it's yellow when the brightness is low.
Personally I think I'm going to take your advice in another thread. I'm going to return this phone for a refund, enjoy using my i9000 for a while as it's now apparent that the screen is excellent (I never really had GPS issues either, so I'm pretty lucky), and go around stores when they have stock to find a screen that compares favourably against my i9000. I'm in a nice position that I can do a side-by-side comparison each time.

So, I guess not many of you have ever messed around with the LCD monitor in front of you (if you have one).
Mine I can set to be a cool white or a warm white.
Here is the real problem... Your brother is smarter than you. You see, there is a difference maybe in the screens. But instead of him *****ing about it, he likely just said his was better. Thus leaving you with the **** screen.
The tables could have been turned if you would have said "HAHA your screen is broken, and mine is better" the second you found the screens were different. Then it would be him here all upset about the screen.
The things people ***** about on this form are just crazy. And no, I don't care about how much you spent on your phone. When you buy any product you should only have a expectation that it is usable, not perfect. And thats mostly because perfect is mostly opinion when it comes to things like this.
Also, this is a phone, not a pro display marked for having the most accurate color production.
What kills me most is the people who take phones back over and over for problems that only exist in their heads. All you are doing is raising the cost of phones and keeping them high for everybody else.
PenTile RGBW technology adds a white subpixel to the traditional red, blue, and green subpixels in a color display allowing a brighter display using less power.
The PenTile RGBW layout uses each red, green, blue and white subpixel to present high-resolution luminance information to the human eyes' red-sensing and green-sensing cone cells, while using the combined effect of all the color subpixels to present lower-resolution chroma (color) information to all three cone cell types.
Combined, this optimizes the match of display technology to the biological mechanisms of human vision. The layout uses one third fewer subpixels for the same resolution as the RGB Stripe (RGB-RGB) layout, in spite of having four color primaries instead of the conventional three, using subpixel rendering combined with metamer rendering. Metamer rendering optimizes the energy distribution between the white subpixel and the combined red, green, and blue subpixels: W <> RGB, to improve image sharpness.
The display driver chip has an RGB to RGBW color vector space converter and gamut mapping algorithm, followed by metamer and subpixel rendering algorithms. In order to maintain saturated color quality, to avoid simultaneous contrast error between saturated colors and peak white brightness, while simultaneously reducing backlight power requirements, the display backlight brightness is under control of the PenTile driver engine.
When the image is mostly desaturated colors, those near white or grey, the backlight brightness is significantly reduced, often to less than 50% peak, while the Liquid Crystal Display levels are increased to compensate.
When the image has very bright saturated colors, the backlight brightness is maintained at higher levels. Since most natural images and black on white text have few simultaneously bright and saturated colors, the average power of the PenTile RGBW panel is 50% less than a conventional RGB LCD.
Since the LCD backlight is the major power using component on many portable devices such as cell phones and personal media players, products that use the PenTile RGBW panel have appreciably longer battery life.
The PenTile RGBW also has an optional high brightness mode that doubles the brightness of the desaturated color image areas, such as black&white text, for improved outdoor view-ability.
The Motorola es400 and Motorola Atrix 4G cell phones use PenTile RGBW LCD displays.

You started a topic that ONLY quotes Wikipedia?
Regardless of what the article says, I know what my eyes see. Pixelation of small-scale text, terrible washed out yellows, and super pixelated greens.
Not quite sure what the point of this thread is... all you did was copy and paste some info from wikipedia. I'm perfectly fine with the screen, though a lot of people seem upset. Those complaints seem to be slowing down at least. It's not the best screen, but it's perfectly fine to me for my phone. I'd be a bit more upset if all picture quality was messed up (both screen and via HDMI), but it looks perfectly fine on other screens.
i copied and pasted text that proves that this pentile argument is false. You put up with some slightly ok colors and get 50% more battery life.

I would gladly have paid more for anything that wasn't pentile. I try my best to ignore it, but it's so difficult when you can always see it.
..................
It might be a bit more power efficient but the yellows and oranges seriously look off and the greens like look a fly screen.
Also the pixel response rate is seriously bad, TONS of ghosting. This display really only works well with black text on a white background with not much animation.

That's because you're seeing something you knew about. If you didn't know it was a pentile screen you'd never see that stuff. Sitting my Atrix next to my iPhone 4 I can tell a difference, but not much of one.
I should mention I was in the Air Force and offered a pilot position, which isn't done unless your eye sight is damn-near perfect. I've had 40/20 vision my entire life and I'm a pretty good videophile. You see that stuff because you want to.

Your vision must be failing or you have chosen to ignore it.
I compared the atrix to every other phone in a verizon store. Everything except the iphone 4 had a worse display.

If you read any of my posts in the main Pentile complaint thread, you'd know that I didn't even know the phone had a Pentile screen (or what that was for that matter) until after I got annoyed at the greens and yellows of the screen. It's ABSOLUTELY obvious that greens show jagged pixels, expecially when looking at thin greens (zoomed out text, lines, etc) and that yellows are more of a squash color. That was the first thing I noticed when zooming through some sites and playing Angry Birds (having played it on my iPod touch many times before). I then came on this site and read Anandtech's review and found out what a Pentile was.
If you can't tell the difference or shortcomings of a Pentile dispaly vs. a similarly dense display (i.e. the Retina) I can't point to anything else but denial. The screen is nice, but not that nice.
On an unrelated side note, I work in engineering for the modules that guide your fighter jets when you need to see without your eyes. I do wish I could take a ride in one though.
Atrix screen and HDMI sample videos
Last night I went to a concert and taped the show. The screen remained on for the entire 2 hours and still had 70% battery power left. If I were on my previous Captivate it would not have lasted 2 hours. It would seem the same people unhappy with the Atrix screen would be unhappy with the battery life if the Atrix had a different screen. I have posted this before: the Atrix screen is perfectly fine, even better than fine considering its efficiency. I have several hi res (720p) movies that look absolutely wonderful on the Atrix. Colors and resolution look beautiful. The colors do not have the super saturation of the Captivate, but still perfectly fine. Motorola should have provided some sample videos, but they didn't.
I was in the AT&T store playing around with the docks. There are 4 720p sample videos on the phone apparently only available thru HDMI. If someone could post those videos here so we can all have a look at them that may help quiet the screen concerns.

It's not so much pixelated, but pixel-less. Text is undeniably sharper on the Atrix than it was on the Captivate.

I don't disagree with that, but when you look at green text there us definitely a difference vs other colors.

aside from the iphone 4 which ofcourse has a better screen..
why would i want to go with an atrix screen and not a super amoled screen if i can see the pixels on both screens. yet the super amoled has better blacks and better colors in general ?
mind you i have used all phones including the atrix " even though it was a short period of time "
I am happy with the screen. It is not perfect, but then it is a mobile phone.
If i want awesome colors and deep blacks I have a rockin' 54" plasma. If I want super clear high resolution fonts, I got a great monitor.
I will trade a perfect phone screen for better battery any day. And for me, this pentile display is damn near perfect.

Lol nice one or maybe he is hypnotizing himself that the Pentile display is acceptable because he doesn't want to go through the trouble of returning the dual core webtop phone LOL :-D
But seriously SUPER AMOLED screen has very vibrant color which I actually like but the battery life is bad for web browsing. I wish they have sepcial designed webpage viewer to create black background and white text for SUPER AMOLED screen to conserve battery life.
Finally, I think I've gotten used to the Pentile screen color. Its not really good bit at least its acceptable eventhough the color are distorted and not sure if software can solve the color issue.

So, everyone is complaining about the Atrix display? What about the cellphones dating back from the 1990's? I bet the display was pretty ****ty too. Oh wait, i dont see anyone complaining. Did any of you know about Pentile display back then? NO!?
Please spare us the comparison of what display is better etc..
Here is an idea. Why dont the rest of the ppl who complain about Pentile/SAMOLED etc..invent your own display? simple as that.
You dont like the display on the phone, DONT BUY IT! Stop whining about it.
Today I showed the screen of my galaxy s II to my iphone4 owning friend. We both loaded up bbc home page, and the white background on his phone looked much better than on my phone.
On my phone the white background looked cream in colour, where as his displayed as pure white.
Will this be able to be fixed with vodoo colour?
It can be helped with Voodoo color, but it can never look like an LCD based display since SAMOLED screens don't have the LED backlight in the back. And also, an iPhone 4's display has already been proven to be a bit blue tinted which makes whites look brighter when they're actually a slight shade of blue. I've spent a lot of time calibrating my Nexus S screen with Voodoo color and I can safely say the result is a more pleasant shade of white than my friend's iPhone 4. Also with Voodoo color I can boost the brightness higher than what the stock specifications permit so it's even a brighter white than the iPhone 4's if I want it to be, but it consumes a LOT of power.

At any rate - yes, voodoo colour can change the colour temperature.

the nature of LCD and OLED makes the colors differ here in America. It also makes the colours differ in England and most of its former colonies.
You can try setting the separate brightness setting in the browser settings to 100% (it is separate from general brightness setting in the phone settings).
I bet it would still have a different hue if you look at them side by side.
You can also try taking a friend with an iP4 that is a year old to a store that sells iP4 now, and compare how they look - you will probably see some difference there too, side by side.
He was saying to me, "oh your screen tech hasn't evolved yet, you cant display proper white", haha, "my text is so much sharper than yours".
It was true about the text, my heart sank when I compared BBC homepage in portrait mode. His text looked MUCH sharper than mines. But then he has got a much higher resolution.
I really did feel humiliated, I just want nice pure white like the iphone4 has. I know I don't have a backlight.

that is a freaking picture of some fabric, right??? because I got scared thinking my laptop LCD is showing banding on cream color.
Haha... I guess the only difference between boys and men are the price of their toys huh?
If you want to humiliate him, ask him to show you a black image. Then laugh at how much light leakage he has. Then play a high quality youtube clip like a movie trailer with some action scenes, then laugh at how slow his pixel response is (ghosting). Also while you're trying to play a high quality youtube clip... remind him that he needs to be on wifi in order to do it because he only gets low quality over 3G =)
Trust me I'd take the SAMOLED over an LCD display any day. Same reason I have a plasma TV and not an LCD/LED one.

What, because you prefer an inferior picture quality? There is a reason the big manufacturers are phasing out plasma.

I second this.
Why didn't you test the black on both screens too?
Iphone4 does have a higher resolution, so it's silly to go comparing that, since it's a known fact.

I would go one step further: comparing SGS2 screen to iP4 screen is like sitting on a coach 15 feet from TV and comparing a fine 480P 37 inch plasma TV with a "finer" 4K 32 inch LCD TV

They are phasing out plasmas because they are more expensive, eat more power , are harder to make, and can't compete with LCDs in price.
Real video buffs still prefer Plasma for its true blacks and great refresh rates.
I'm not gonna let this get into a TV debate but it's well known videophiles and avid cinema/sports watchers will always choose a plasma TV over an LCD because of the purer blacks and insanely faster pixel response (no ghosting like an LCD/LED). The mere fact that LCD/LED TVs even have to QUOTE a pixel response time indicates an inferiority.
And this also carries through to phones. If you don't believe me, try it. Pick up any HTC phone and compare it to any Galaxy phone. Go to a black menu with white text... perhaps the settings menu and scroll up and down. You'll notice MASSIVE text ghosting on the HTC LCD screens but none on the SAMOLED screen. Please, don't come back claiming things you haven't tested yourself with no facts to back it up.

Real buffs prefer high quality LED panels, plasma simply can't compete with the definition even if fast moving imagery is sometimes better. And I know this as someone who has owned high quality sets of every type.
Plasma's days were numbered as soon as it's monopoly on extra large panels ceased to exist thanks to LCD and then LED technology allowing 42" and above panels to be financially and technically viable with no loss of quality.
Still, we can agree to differ on all that if you wish.

I fail to see where the comparison between SAMOLED and LCD is relevant to a comparison between LCD/LED and plasma.
Oh, and I have tested myself.
What do you mean with "pure white"? To me it sounds like iphone has colder color temperature, that is not better, just different. In fact that would give less natural colors.
Try to change color temperature on your pc monitor to understand what I mean, a warm temperature of 6500K is more creamish than a cold temperature of let's say 9000K.

I hope you do realize LED is just another type of backlight for same LCD screen, and it not always makes that same LCD produce truer blacks, and it does not do a thing to refresh rates.

Obviously, I'm well aware of the technicalities of all current TV technology or I wouldn't be entering a debate about it.
Anyway, agree to differ and move on, as said derailing this thread is pointless.
Ask him to play a flash video from the browser And it is true the iphone's display is fairly impressive but I prefer the bright colors, larger size, and better power consumption of the SAMOLED+
Are you aware that the GS2 screen has 2 different brightness settings? It has the normal brightness, but lower down the menu it has a setting 'Auto adjust screen power' This actually dulls whites when there is a lot of white on the screen to reduce power use. If you untick it the screen is a lot more pure white.
Oh and on the subject of TV screens plasmas are getting a boost from 3D. 3D plasmas are much better than LED/LCD because of their reaction times. Much much less ghosting and as a result deeper 3D effect. A full HD plasma is still the best screen there is right now. Much less harsh than an LCD, better blacks, more realistic colours and less intense whites.

Who cares about which screen displaying bbc has better white. This baby has everything, 1080p, bluetooth 3.0, wireless n, hspa+, dual core, android (!), better battery and I think the samoled+ can display colours much better. Also no gay itunes and you do not need to jailbreak your iPhone (which makes the iPhone instable and ****) to just get freedom
Edit: forget about these things
4.3" screen, 9mm thick, 116g, micro sd slot and more.. seriously that phone rapes the iPhone

funny that you fall for that
put his iphone in the sun and say "whats white good for if you can't see anything?"
they're different techs. besides, true white is subjective. then theres like 150 other reasons why the SGS2 is technically better, and why the iphone5 will actually be very similar to the SGS2.
I can confirm this "cream" or, as I would put it, "yellow" tint to the screen and whites in particular. It's not right - I consider it a fault. My old (now current) SGS has the most perfect, even whites I've ever seen on a phone - even beating thr iPhone 4 in my opinion.
The SGSII is horribly bad quality as far as I'm concerned. I see nothing in SAMOLED+ that improved over SAMOLED. It's actually more grainy, too saturated, viewing angles - bizarrely are off, and blurs slightly when scrolling. What the hell is up with Samsung?
