USB/WiFi/Windows security/access question - Networking

I'm trying something at work and don't know if this is possible. I've done a little looking but don't know exactly what I'm looking for.
We have MDTs in our vehicles that have a wireless data connection and a secured WiFi network for our tablets. We are limited on what we can access on the MDTs (normally just our CAD program only, but I found an exploit to access Windows Explorer) and they operate on Windows. I was wondering if there is something that I can plug in to a USB port that will link with the wireless data network and add an additional WiFi network that I can access/control.

Using wifi for both internet and office network access

Hi,
I am having trouble using wifi on my O2 XDA Mini S (Wizard) to access both the internet and shared directories on my office network.
If I have a wireless laptop PC, then once it has connected to its base station it will transparently access both the internet and shared drives over that wireless network.
But with the Wizard things seem to be different. Instead I have to go to settings | network cards and explicitly say whether the wireless network is for internet access or for "work" access. And change that setting again when I want to change which destination (internet, or shared drive) I am accessing. All this despite exactly the same wireless network being used.
Please tell me this isn't necessary and I have just missed something Is there a way of configuring wireless network access on the Wizard to transparently access both the internet and shared drives?

Anybody? Surely others have experienced this problem?

Sharing a GPRS internet connection to PC using wifi

This is perhaps a slightly obscure and probably impossible thing to do.
Basically, I want to be able to use the Alpine (xda2i) like a wireless modem/router, and browse internet from a PC. The laptop has wifi but not bluetooth. I don't want to use a USB connection.
Firstly, I would need to set-up an ad-hoc wifi connection between the laptop and the Alpine. I have been unsuccessful at this so far. Could I have some guidance please?
Then I need a program to bridge the wifi and GPRS connections. The "wireless modem" utility which came with the Alpine does this for USB, IR and bluetooth, but not for wifi. does such a program exist?
Thanks in advance,
its possible, however, primitive. You can get web access only (unless you want to add code to the gateway software to support your specific ports), and it requires a damn jvm as well as reconfiguration of the laptop every time you want to use it after having gone back to your old connection software. its more useful for two pda's, one which will always use the alpine as its web host. Anyway, check it out:

pretty easy to set up, I had it running in about 5 minutes, albet not very useful via my gprs connection. enjoy

sharing internet access... posible!!!!???

this may sound crazy..
when i conect my htc621 to my PC.. it gets internet access.. so i just wanna know if theres any way my htc can share the internet access via Bluetooth to other devices..
such a nokia N-gage, a 3250 and a Palm Lifedrive..
the thing i want is that my htc becoming some kind of router (dunno the language) ..
this is possible??? and what soft do i need ...
Short answer, yes.
Long answer, probably not.
Theres two ways that I know of accomplishing this:
1: Both devices must support Bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Networking) profile, then the built in Internet Sharing application can share your internet connection with another device, I use this regularly when travelling with my laptop. Concievably it could be used to share the connection with any other Bluetoon enabled device that supports the PAN profile.
2: I spotted an application recently that claimed to allow the handheld device to be used as a wifi router. I had only very minimal success when I tried it our, as I recall it presents itself as an Ad-Hoc Network, then routes all the traffic out to the internet via the GPRS/3G connection. A good proof of concept, but for me of limited value. This will require the device you want to connect to the internet to have WiFi capability.
I hope this is useful, but I realise now after writing all this that your question doesnt specifically describe the connectivity you want to achieve.
Cheers!

Just found the application, here is a link:

Tether + Ethernet cable, is this possible?

I'm buying a TV with an ethernet port which has the feature of streaming via the net. Can I tether my phone to my PC and have the TV pull a signal from my PC using my phone as a modem? How would one do this?
Thanks!
this could be done using a pc and internet connection sharing or a cradlepoint router.
however, it will also be a great way to burn so much data usage to get your account suspended, warned or charged for overage.
Ive used massive amounts of data without being warned. In fact,Ive ran bit torrent. There is no way that I have not gone over the limit some month using the phone as my primary internet connection.
Im not entirely sure what the OP is asking, but here is what I know. You can use your phone as an internet connection in several ways. The easiest is using a hack to connect via USB or bluetooth. I have found this to be very unreliable. You can use a third party program to do the same thing as well. I use a program called PDA net which works much more reliably. You can also use hacks or third party programs to connect via wifi.
Your phone will provide a connection similar to slower DSL lines. You can expect 800-1200k downloads and 150-300k downloads (your millage may vary here, but that's what I have gotten in Ohio and Utah)
If you want to connect to an ethernet device there are a few options. You can use programs allow your phone to share over wifi and create an adhoc network. You can also connect your phone to an access point and then configure your network devices default gateways to point to the phone instead of the access point.

[Q] Nook and PC Tether?

OK I have simple newbie question, is it possible to tether the Nook Color to a PC and use pc's network? Reason behind this is my wireless router is half way out, wired works but wireless doesn't (All wireless is out) and Att won't be out till tomorrow to fix. So I was thinking if it's possible to tether like you do on a phone but with a PC and use PC's network. I can tether it my phone just fine, but at the house, we have very low signal, so it's really not an option. Thanks
Derek
It sounds like your PC is connected to the network with cat5, ethernet cable right since the wireless is wonkey? Provided your PC has a wireless network card you should be able togo into the network setting and turn your PC into a wireless adhoc network that you can attach the nook to.
Unfortunately the fact you need to rely on your service provider to get a wireless network working in your household means you probably won't be able to do that without some help. This is not a dig, it's just an observation. Everyone has different skills at different things.
But can't you just go out and buy a cheap wireless router and connect it to your service providers router with an ethernet cable, just like you are doing with your PC. The instructions are pretty simply for making it password protected and all.
I just realized my post might not be all that helpful, but to answer your question the answer is yes if your PC has a wireless card.
