Hi All
I am due a free upgrade in March, I currently have the HTC HD2, I love playing about with SD builds and running gingerbread on this phone.
My question is, what phone should I buy next that the devs here are working on sd android builds?
Thanks

Keep the HD2 and move yourself over to NAND Android Builds.
Get the upgrade, sell the upgrade, keep the hd2!
for me (2 months on contact to run) i'll be dropping a chunk off of the monthly contract and go to sim only, and buy another hd2 direct for when this one (broken screen, faulty gps,,, dropped it, , , ,) finally gives out, and wait for a year and see where the phone/tablet convergence leads.
HTC Pyramid, for sure
As other suggested...keep the HD2, sell the upgrade lol
But if you really want to upgrade, wait for dual core phones to come out..anything else than that is not worth..
What's the general feeling for the max. screen size for a phone? The HD2 with 4.3" is a good size, and I'm very happy with mine, but a 5" screen or so (like the Dell Streak) could still fit in a shirt / back pocket....
I'm waiting for 1280 x 720 resolution on whichever phone I get next....
I would personally stick with the HD2. There doesnt seem to be much out there at the moment that is heaps better than the HD2. I am waiting for some of the dual core models to come out before I think about upgrading..
MyTouch 4G
Why not get the MyTouch 4G... my wife has it and it's a great phone. Fast and bright. Front facing camera is cool too.
Don't know if it can be programmed like the HD2, but if it can, then that's a good phone.

nah, another year of the hd2 and the quad cores will be out. skip teh duals altogether.

Read somewhere the Samsung Galaxy S2 will be a 4.3 inch screen with 1280x720 resolution, dual core CPU at 2GHz. Mouth watering...
Personally, I'm waiting to see if the new BlackBerry with the touchscreen gets released on T-MoUS and is worth buying before upgrading. Otherwise I'm waiting on dual core devices like everyone else. Right now my HD2 does everything it needs to do. Would love the front facing camera but I know if I got whats out right now I'd be pissed in about 6 months when they start releasing phones with some awesome specs.

first time that i hear the name......dual-core cpu sounds interesting.
I left my HD2 for a G2. But honestly I like the HD2 better from a hardware perspective. The G2 just seems to run a little better than the HD2 especially games so that's the reason I eventually left my HD2. But unless you get the option to upgrade a line only 6 months into a contract for free for a G2 I would hold on to your upgrade for something better. I have both the Vibrant and the G2 and neither are significant upgrades of the HD2. In fact I think the HD2 runs much better day to day than my wife's Vibrant. Wait for the dual cores or something comparable to the HD2 in native Android form.
I'm getting the Atrix 4g, just ordered it. Now that I see the bootloader has the possiblity of being cracked, I now want it. However, if the samsung galaxy II had come out already, i would get it instead as I fancy myself with taking pictures.
Well I won't be tossing my hd2 though. Atleast, i don't want to.
A Tmo rep told me that the LG Optimus 3D will be on Tmo soon.
I am saving my upgrade too for something dual core.
But I will always keep my trusting and flash fun HD2.
I've been keeping a spreadsheet of the specs of the latest android phones and the activity on their respective XDA Android Development Sections. The XDA data is probably a week old. Performance ratings are from benchmarks on Anandtech.

Hi all
I was just wondering if you can share any comments what smartphone have best apps in 2011.
What you will buy after HD2 ?
thanks
This is a question thats on my mind at the minute as well.
The main problem for me is that Ive become so used to the 4.3" screen that I really dont think I could handle using a phone with a screen of less than 4".
Im currently torn between the DHD, Nexus S, Incredible S, Desire S or the Sensation.
Im seriously thinking about waiting until June for the sensation, my concern is the battery though. HTC seem to be pretty lax when it comes to getting optimal battery life from a phone, the sensation with its dual core and new sense (which will probably be even more of a memory hog than the old sense) is going to tear the arse out of any battery.
Theres also the issue of how long its going to take to acheive root / s-off.... (Im very impatient and will not be able to put up with sense for that long, I really dont like the android version for some reason.)
DHD, obviously very similar to the HD2 with a good amount of development going on. However, poor battery life and the age of the device put me off a little. When I upgrade I'm going to have that phone for 18 months so I feel like I should probably go for a evice thats as new as possible.
Nexus, the only thing really putting me off is the fact that its made of nasty looking shiny plastic and doesnt feel as solid as the HD2. Also not a huge selection of custom ROMS for it from what I can see, compared to some devices.
So errr yeah... lol
Well I would recommend you to watch the latest updates at MIX 11 about WP7 Mango update I think you will like it a lot. And now that DFT is bringing Custom SPL to WP7 Source: Twitter (CotullaCode)
I think Android is great, it opens many doors specially for people on XDA, but the thing is. I always think android is missing the experience. It's not fun, and it's just an OS with apps. I will use Android till the end of my contract... And when the time comes I definitely get a WP7 device. Of course an 4.3"(+) screen. Once you get a fridge phone always a fridge phone Personally I'm waiting for Nokia to join the WP7 party, I know Nokia has the best and trustworthy hardware for their phones.
I just took Nexus S, actually looks not bad but screen is noticeably smaller. I did it because I wanted to resell my HD2 while still in warranty and Samsung are offering very good discounts on the SNS in France (it costs less than the Galaxy!). When Sensation comes out and price calms down I'll resell the SNS to get that marvel. Sadly, I'm hugely missing HTC Sense...
seriously even i am kinna confused i i say i want desirehd its been already ported to hd2 & so also nexus...i hope htc comes out dual core hd2...so we can start the fun all over again i know its not possible!
But ATM its just hd2 for me!
I think HTC EVO 3D will be my next phone after HD2 TMOUS
Simple, ....Another HD2

Sadly I totaly disagree with your Nokia statement - they have lost the plot in high end phones over the last couple of years.
The N8 is a software nightmare, as was the 5800 and that range of phones.
Their new mid range phone C7 - C5 have software issues.
This is not just my view I work it Mobile technical support. Nokia are no longer the top manufacturer - they do not rate the top 5 now. Use Google and read the comments from their CEO, he says about the same!
Incredible is my next phone - if my provider supply it
I think that Iphone 4 is superior for the touch screen and for the smoothness of system...Nevertheless I'm waiting for new devices of Htc like Sensation or evo 3d to make a choice...
Samsung Galaxy S 2 anyone?
I've been wondering this too. I just bought an HD2, but of course, the phone is a year old already, and smartphones are now getting 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and dual core processors.
Before long, the HD2 is going to be out of date.
Personally, the most attractive aspect of the HD2 to me is how incredibly hackable it is. If I were to upgrade, I would hope whatever phone I upgrade to would have several OSes available to use too (as opposed to just several derivatives of the same OS).

Hit the nail on the head there brother!
The HD7 is a minor temptation, but after playing with a Mozart I found that there is no connecting to a hidden network, or as a mass storage device. A shame as everything else is very nice in WP7.
So I am keeping my eye out for hot deals on HD2's
Edit: Forgot about the non-removeable/expandable storage in WP7 (I have 32Gb in my HD2)
probably getting sensation for daily driver but will be saving this HD2 because its superphone over anything, probably ever because of OS possibilities.
If there doesnt come any other better phones than sensation I will be getting it when it releases.

this or the htc sensation, im tempted to save the money and buy an s2 with the tegra 2 chip. It seems like tegra 2 will be widely supported and it'll have games optimised for it also it may lead to the phone being cracked faster.
For me there realy isnt any phone that beats HD2 (still). Im a WM6.1 ,WM6.5.x fanboy. the only hing that I miss at HD2 is harwware keyboard. but other then that it still is the perfect phone in my opinion. I never oliked phones that you get bored of quickly. HD2 has alot of development going on xda. you can have numerous OSes running on it. It never gets boring. I probably will not change my phone before there is realy something special (no, galaxy S 2 isnt special enough ).
At the moment I'm still torn between different OS's(ssssss). I've been warming to WinPho 7, but after reading over on Pocket Now about some of the things that might STILL be missing even after the Mango update later this year, I don't think I can wait. http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/windows-phone-7-mango-the-missing-features No smart dialing, no flash support in the browser? What on earth are Microsoft doing?
Having said I can't wait for Microsoft to get their act together, if I could stick a super LCD in my HD2 and a better camera sensor, I would happily keep it for another year or two until quad core chips are out and are selling at reasonable money.
The Sensation will be such a rip-off SIM-free here in the UK this summer I couldn't bring myself to buy one; there'll be much better and more efficient hardware out by the end of '11, beginning '12 ; )
G2x
Stock Android
Tegra Dual Core
4g
Supports a WIDE range of spectrums and supports ATT 3g along with T-Mobile's 4g and 3g
All screen and no keyboard.
It's literally future proof (since ATT will be eating Tmobile soon)
The SGS2 looks better than the Sensation in terms of specs?
Well!!!
I'm a HD2 user from November 2009 which means it's almost 2 years old.
For a phone that's quit old. Now I'm running Mango on it and I also had many android versions running on it. I really love this device.
Now comes my problem!!
I want to buy a new phone but I want the same phone which can run many OS.
Should I wait until the Eternity or will there be another "über"-Phone (über = German for Gorgeous/great/Master/better then ever/beyond everything else)?
I think you all know what I mean. The HD2 is just great and I want something similar again.
What do you think???
Regards, Martijn
I suggest waiting a few more months (or years?) for the HTC Holiday .. it seems to be the device of its decade
i have my hd2 also since it was released and i think that i will wait until the quadcore chips come to phones. i can live with the hd2 at the moment and i think buying a dualcore device now isn't worth it when quadcores are announced for the mid of next year. maybe i'll buy a cheap used phone inbetween to play with but not a new high end device.
LMAO.
I just bought an HD2. And for the same reason you don't want to leave it.
I want to experience everything I can. You can't do that with any phone.
Lucky me than, im going to buy HD2 tomorrow
There is no real upgrade in my opinion. The only signifcant upgrade I reckon is in battery life, front cam, a slighty better rear cam and perhaps screen quality.
I have had; Desire, Desire HD, Legend and now Nexus S. They are all so similar to HD2 it feels cool for the first day and then you realize there was really no point in upgrading.
Sansung GS II is the biggest upgrade IMO, but then you are stuck on a stock ROM

If you're going to think like that then might as well wait for the 8 core phones instead of buying a quad core phone.
Well but they are Not manufactured yet. The kal el is done and working. And if you Upgrade and some month later there is such better Hardware available you'll also get angry. The difference between our hd2 and a dual core device is Not that big. At the Moment the hd2 is still pretty up to date. I know very well that waiting for the next good thing to come out would never end when we Talk about smartphones or Computers. There is just no really big fish out at the Moment like the hd2 was in 2009. So i for myself will wait for quadcores and 720p Displays because this will be worth the Upgrade from the hd2.
Unfortunately, I think the HD2 was unique with all the possibilities and hacking and the great developers coming together at one time. I've been watching and waiting for the next great phone, but I think that when the HD2 finally fades away, there won't be another phone with the same abilities because of the lack of developers focused on it. I just don't know what I'll do, I guess I'll actually have to decide on an Android or WP7 phone (but I really really like being able to jump between the two with just a reboot)!
If you can't wait there's been a bit of buzz around the Xiaomi M1 phone - supposedly able to run multiple OS's.
Feel free to shoot me down in flames if I've mis-interpreted the description of it.

true. this could really be a cheap option to get a phone were some great developement could go on. we'll see how good it really will be. this price is pretty cheap for a phone with such hardware. hope it won't be cheap china crap.

It's using a 1.5 ghz snapdragon/adreno with 1GB ram SoC so you know the raw specs are freaking amazing.
What I want to see is how good the screen is and how good the code is. They are making a bad-ass phone with a stock-custom ROM (if that makes sense), it would be like HTC releasing a phone running stock CM7 on it or something.
If there is custom ROM support for this thing like CM7 and stuff I might get it.
i know the phone thanks. but build quality has to be good.

Lol @ it runs a discontinued OS
Well i think there is not one out there that can replace the HD2. Why change a winner with a posible expencive new one. If your phone will break, it wil only cost you 150-200 Euro to replace.
depends where you live. here i have to pay still 400 euro to get a new one.
So I've been using an HD2 for a few months, and I absolutely love it, being able to run Phone 7, Android, Ubuntu, and just having so much freedom with it. However, it is an aging device, and while it hasn't had any problems for me as of yet, I'm still considering what my next device will be. My question is: are there any phones out as of now, or to be released soon, that are/could be the next HD2? I mean, I also have a Touchpad, which as of now seems to be heading towards HD2 awesomeness, but I can't quite fit that in my pocket. Any suggestions/thoughts?
Yea I want to know too. I also have an HTC HD2 and a Touchpad. The HTC HD2 is getting really old and the battery life isn't up to par with current smartphones.
In my opinion, there will be no other phone as hackable as the HD2 with the ability to run multiple Operating Systems. Windows Phone is just starting to pickup but give it sometime as it will slowly be hackable. We got no other choice other than Android, Iphone or (Correct me if im wrong) Nokia Meego. I will just wait for next year and wait what HTC or Nokia will bring us.
Yea I've been due for a upgrade for months, just not anything I've seen worth 2years.
Well, if you guys are considering ditching your HD2s drop me a line ;-)

Ha, I browsed Craigslist for a month waiting for a decent price one, then got damn lucky and bought one off some guy LNIB and unlocked for $85 USD. Such a great phone at a great price.
Anyways, there's that Phone 7 Nokia phone coming out soon, the Lumia I think it is? Do you guys think there's any chance for that being super hacked? It seems like a possible contender....
I don't know, I still have my nokia e71 unlocked, the first phone in the States with a front facing camera, and that was three years ago, but after a 4.3inch screen of the HD2, I cant see myself with a smaller screen. So the nokia is a no go for me.

I have the same issue as you, one month ago; I switched on Sensation Black, a very good phone for daily usage (regardless its battery issues) but, I manage to keep also the HD2 which is the most tweak-able device I've ever used.
best regards
I'm feeling left behind now that most high end phones are dual core, and quad core are right around the corner! Not that I need that kind of power, I'm just afraid that stock Android will start to lag on the HD2 and I'll have to upgrade [ or be stuck with a slow phone :O ]

Dear,
try to check the SonyEricsson Arc, it's very nice one
The Arc is a nice phone, but its not a flagship device like the hd2 was when it was first released.
As for a phone worth upgrading to, there are none that fit the bill just yet. I'm personally waiting for Qualcomm's S4 quad core CPU (2.5Ghz per core, each core running at 25% power of the snapdragon in the hd2) to be released into a phone before I upgrade. Theres quite a bit of waiting involved, however. I think the dual-core variant is already being shipped to manufacturers, and the CES conference in February should release more information.
FYI, the rumour mill is already at work regarding these chips - http://androidandme.com/2011/11/news/rumor-first-28nm-snapdragon-s4-devices-to-arrive-by-february/
First quad core device codenamed HTC Edge (running Tegra 3 quad core @ 1.5Ghz per core) - http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/11/htc-nvidia-quad-core-tegra-3/

I actually love the Arc ROM available for the HD2, and I would consider an Arc [ or the Arc HD], only thing is that I don't think they're available to us here in the US...or is it called something else here?
WOW - that HTC Edge device looks awesome - would love a windows phone with similar spec.
Maybe last WP7 device will be next HD2? (if they switch to W8)
I don't feel the need to replace my HD2 yet, but I'm still looking after "new HD2", to see what might be worthwhile updating later. But I'm yet to see something like that.
Maybe it will come, after HD2 gets really old (when majority of games and heavy apps will not run smooth) and start loosing developers at very fast rate. After all, developers will have to go somewhere. Let's just hope that they will all move to same device.
See samsung galaxy tab sII. Number 1 in many reviews.
In fact, although HD2 is stable at android, wm6.5, wp7,
but it more like a toy...
if you need stablest communication, you may buy a nokia....

Do you mean galaxy tab or galaxy s2? If first, we are looking for phone here.
And I don't care about reviews. I'm looking for must customizable and developed phone, not necessarily best one.
So far from I have seen the only other phone that looks like it might be competition is the Galaxy sII.
But, I have had a horrible experience with the last one(A true POS - the Vibrant).
Yet the new one looks pretty promising. . . . Maybe
But, I just can't swing a close to 500 Dollar price tag.
Here in the UK the SGSII is still too expensive SIM free, considering how long it has been out. If it were 50% cheaper I would buy one to tide me over...
Other than that, the jury is out for me. Every time I see a new handset announced that interests me, the manufacturer screws it up by omitting something that is important for me that I already take for granted - e.g a MicroSD card slot (Micro SDXC is the way forward - especially once I start to watch hi-def movies on my phone and stream to my tv).
I'd also like the same size screen or slightly bigger, but in a smaller device. It will happen in time I'm sure but I'm amazed how long it is taking. Why are so many OEMs are focusing solely on the thickness of the device? Okay, so the Razr (or part of it) is super thin, but it's wider than our HD2 for goodness sake!?!?
Finally.....I like buttons. There, I said it, my shame is out in the open. I remember when just about every hardware button on a device could be programmed for both short and long presses. Notification LEDs rock too. Oh dear, now I have publicly humiliated myself completely.... ; )

I was just thinking what phone should I go for after my sweet HTC HD2.. I am proud owner of HD2 for 3 years now and I still love it for what it does even now.. But as you know the next gen phones are coming out every other day with front facing cam, near field communication etc which are hardware upgrades not possible to be implemented in our HD2, I was wondering what would be the next best phone to move on and which would have a good XDA support.. So guys please help me to choose one and also I think this would be helpful for many others..

I too am (still) a proud HD2 owner. That phone rocks, and always will.
I upgraded in December though, to the SGS2 and am thrilled with it.
I swore I would leave it stock, for a really long time...and 4 days later began with the flashing/upgrading/modding again.
There aren't quite so many options for the S2, as the HD2 but only b/c on the HD2 I could flash winMo in various versions, and Android etc etc etc. You know the drill. Mine doesn't have NFC, but really I read an article last week that said that there are sth like 25 stores in America where you can pay with NFC. Bah, who needs it.
If you can afford it, and money's no thing, grab a Nexus. If you're on a budget (like me) and you want a phone that you'll still be stoked with (and absolutely thrilled about the price) check into the SGS2. I'm an Android lover, so I'm diggin' it.
Good luck!
Be patient and wait for a real upgrade - HTC Edge/Supreme (4.7" 720p S-LCD2; Tegra 3; 1 GB RAM). Will be presented next month at MWC.

But what are the chances of scoring one for < €350?
The SGS2 has a major price advantage over anything out now, or coming out in the next year.
Thanks guys for the replies.. I know SGS2 is good but I don't like Samsung's build quality.. I didnt know about HTC supreme.. Looks interesting.. and I always love the HTC's solid build quality..
Waiting for the Tegra 3 devices, for sure! I waited for 2 months for the HD2 to become available and get delivered. Looks to me a bit longer for these epic devices.
Was tempted by the Vivid/Raider/Velocity for about a day, until I saw the Edge/Supreme.
I will be sad to see the mighty HD2 go, but it will go on to a worthy user.
Hi Guys,
I used to have an HD2 and a SGS2. I now have a htc sensation XL and im really proud of it. The quality of HTC is always the best for me. It has a 1.5 gHz processor but a large screen. Its very fast and you have beats audio. If you were happy with your HD2 I think the Sensation XL is the best option for you. The galaxy s2 had so many random reboots. I tried every version on it but nothing works perfectly.
i moved to a galaxy note
I bought the sensation back in October and have been more than satisfied with it. It is a very solid phone and has enough power to hold you over for at least a couple years. Just barely have they started coming out with apps that really use the dual core processors, so I wouldn't worry about having more than what the sensation has. And to my understanding the processor chip is the EXACT one used in XE so overclocking from stock 1.2 to a blazing 1.5 ghz is no problem. Some kernels are available with up to a little over 1.7 ghz so speed is definitely not an issue.
been using HD2 for 4months now and this is a legendary phone...
I'm always looking for a 2nd hand phone because i'm still studying..
I think SGS2 will be my next choice when the price reduced like when i buy my HD2....
To XL owners: is 4.3" to 4.7" noticeable for e-reading and browsing?

I assume it is as noticeable as the difference between a 4" and a 4.3" which in my opinion is quite a bit.

I think, the next HD2 will be the new HTC Ville(Codename). It should available in Q1/2012.
The technical Data sounds good especially for custom ROMS because it has 16GB internal Memory and 1GB RAM inside.

With noticeably bigger screen,dc processor and camera etc ..galaxy Note is a worthwhile upgrade from HD2.May be just wait some more time and get it with ICS + display improvement (?)..
I think i am just stopping with my HD2 when it's broken.
And then move on to another HTC phone, but it HAS to be an android phone.
I just moved from my HD2 to a Sensation. It does not have quite the development that the HD2 has, but it has the same screen size with with better resolution. I have definitely become an HTC fan and I am pleased with the Sensation. Also, they can be found for a little over $200.

I've had my HD2 since 2009, my next phone will be Android and not Windows.
I like the Samsung Galaxy Note and its 5.3" screen but I'm waiting to see if HTC bring out an equivalent to the Note but with ICS pre-installed.
