I'm running LauncherPro on my phone. Even though all launcher-related defaults are set for LauncherPro, the HTC Sense is still listed as a running process. I don't observe any problems with that, but nevertheless I'd like to know if there are any known issues with, say, freezing HTC Sense using Titanium Backup.
Actually, I just froze it and the phone seems to work fine (and, as one would expect, HTC Sense is no longer in the list of running processes). However, it will take time to test if everything really works. Maybe someone knows something already?

If you don't want sense, why not just flash a non-sense ROM like CM? Save the hassle of masking it with a bandaid and fix the root issue.
Flash a ROM so u dont have WM
Er... I'm not talking about getting rid of the entire HTC Sense GUI platform. I just want to replace the launcher. "HTC Sense" also happens to be the name for the launcher application, which is probably why people confuse one with another. Again, I'm perfectly comfortable with HTC Sense GUI platform, I just want to replace HTC Sense application. Why would anyone want to reflash the entire ROM just to replace the launcher application is not exactly clear to me.
I've been running, Launcher Pro while having HTC Sence app frozen by TiBackup for a day now. No problems so far.

Hi,
is there a way to use fotprints without htc sense? I disabled sense in avour of mobile shell (I did give it a fair crack but finally decided it wasn't for me)
however, I've now lost all links to footprints, and curious about whether I can still use it
I've got MS3.5 as well ... but having extended the app launcher in sense and got back the proper task manager ... am now using sense again.
You do lose access to quite a few Sense plugins if you don't run it. These include the settings applet and twitter ... the latter is the most irritating.
Interestingly, although I can use twitter properly in Sense, tapping on the peep app does nothing. I'm not sure if it did before I had installed MS3.5 ... but I suspect it did.
Paul.
Which 2.1 Rom is there available with everything working like protected apps WITHOUT SENSE.
I like using HelixLauncher.
Serious? Did you even do a search first? I bet within the two first pages you'll find multiple Roms without Sense. If you like Helix Launcher, why does it matter in the rom has Sense? You're disabling Sense any ways when you set Helix as the default.
it shouldn't matter, just install helixlauncher on top of any sense 2.1 rom. you lose sense and use helixlauncher as home.
unless you mean you want like stock android apps. then you'd want to use darch's AOSP 2.1, but the camera doesn't work so yeah. or you could use his darchvanilla ROM, which is also sense-less and has everything working, i think.
If i wasn't serious why would I bother asking?
I am wanting a Rom without Sense installed because rose and other HTC stuff is always running.
darchvanilla is the way to go. still need to use flipz' vanilla lock fix if you want vanilla lockscreen.
MatrixROM FTW
I've been running MatrixROM for a few days now and it's been stable and problem free. I'd recommend it highly.
Of course, you could have found a few of these kinds of ROMs with a search or even easier, by simply reading the titles of threads in the first four or five pages of this subforum.
I've had some problems getting HTC apps working in cm6 latest nightly.
I get my apks from DC froyo.
First I tried an easy install which failed.
Then I moved it to the system/app folder and chmod and chowned to make sure the permissions and owners were the same as stock.
Right now the HTC internet browser opens but force closes.
How can I get it working?
Aren't the HTC apps tied to the Sense framework? If so, I don't think it'll be possible to get them working on a non-sense ROM.
I could be completely wrong.

No you are not completely wrong. You are completely correct. Sense is deeply integrated into Android. It's not like there are just some added libraries. The source code that compiles into the framework.jar and framework-res.apk, etc are directly modified by HTC. This means Sense is no mere skin. It is a complete integration into Android. Regardless, without this framework HTC apps will only run on Sense phones. Some can be ported over but it's a difficult process so most likely the apps you want will not be ported over. Out of curiosity though, which apps are you trying to use on CM6?
If you want Sense, go back to Sense.

Use DC.
Can't use HTC apps without Sense. Please check the FAQ in the future.
if you provide the applications you're trying to run, perhaps alternatives can be suggested for you.
I personally like the HTC Tip Calulator widget....
and the HTC Notes....
But you can't use them on adw.
I don't want an app shortcut, I want a widget.
I prefer AOSP thankyou very much.
I just like the option of having some apps that I got used to.
HTC_ime for example. The keyboard.
Even though I use swype.
The camera app which pwns the stock.
Got flashlight and car panel working.
FM radio and weather would be nice too.
There were some nice Widgets but the only one I miss is the clock.
Any porting tips?

i liked the HTC keyboard as well. I'm assuming that you did your due diligence and found this did not work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7429254#post7429254
4G and FM Radio is not working in CM6 yet.
this is listed in the CM6 OP.
i'm not sure what HTC browser your talking about. perhaps try installing Dolphin HD browser.
last nights CM6 build incorporated a new camera app and deathray (er...Flashlight app w/ widget). just get the nightly build and flash over what you have...i wipe 'cache' and 'dalvik cache' ...you loose no settings.
i use 'MyWeather' but then, i don't care for weather widgets. have you even looked on the android market for this? maybe try browsing from a computer on a site like www.appbrain.com
i use digital clock widget to provide my time date...many folks praise Beautiful Widgets.
here is a post that may be of use..

tips...
- everyone once in a while...copy a nand backup onto your pc (ie: what if you SD card gets lost or borked?)
- read the entire forum for the ROM you're playing with
- use the search function liberally. (both on xda and google)

Thanks for your post, but.
This isn't about anything specific, i simply want to know how to get apps ported, without the java source.
That said, I AM using dolphin, but I prefer the copy-paste that I can only find with HTC sense, I was hoping the browser on stock sense would help.
I've come across that thread, and use Swype without much issue, but having no trackball () makes me wish I had some arrow keys.. Not available in that thread.
Since my OP I have customized ADW and i'm quite pleased with it overall.
Now I just want to be able to use any app I wish. Regardless of alternatives!
Beautiful widgets is good, but has no analog clocks last I checked.
I do use it either way, but again, this isn't about anything specific.
I want to unlock apk's so they work anywhere. Any rom. Not just with HTC apps, but even the touchwiz apps!
Don't care about 4G, and i know that there are bugs being worked out with CM6 but i'm following it closely. On the 8/11 nightly build right now.
Finally, I read too much. I know a lot more than I put on..
Been "playing" with android roms since Dream (especially CM).
The problem which I have won't be solved by simply looking around for a version of the APK that works.
I want to know how they are being ported/unlocked .
If you can help, then thankyou very much!
Otherwise, I don't need your irrelevant tips. (No offense intended)

Swype from the Swype key to the SYM key. Voila.
i ve seen alot of people mentioning that they dont want to have sense on their android( different tastes)
i personally like the looks of sense but it reminds me so much of the windows mobile nightmares that i avoid it.
even though its not same as using sense with winmo...
but for those of you that dont want to use sense,
download LAUNCHER PRO or any other launcher app that is available on the market. once installed the phone will ask you which one would you like to use by default, very simple.
i did that on mattc build and new froyostone build as well...
im posting this because not that many people are aware of this.
i discovered it by accident as well.
u still have sense items like dialer and other aspects of sense even if u download launcher
does launcher pro do landscape mode?
Nevermind... I should know to reasearch before asking by now.
the main reason i dont like sense is even after disabling , there iis still like 10 apps running in the background lol
if you use launcher pro (which I like becuase you can get more icons on the page) you dont have access to the sense widgets, and I cant find a clock I like as much as the standard sense/weather clock (ANYONE??).
i found myself setting up launcher pro to look like my winmo sense. But I still think winmo sense looks way better.
I would love to use sens rather than froyo att his point. but I got used to having my dpis at 180. And I still want my sense widgets and clock but then I wont be able to shrink the resolution much, or fit more icons.

I agree. HTC sense is BLOATWARE even if you just "disable" it.
Hello Everyone,
Im using HTC Desire with AuraxTsense 8.1.1 and ive seen a few roms with the core android contacts app. I tried using mybackup pro to back this app up and install it but it says "application not installed". Do i need to download a .zip and use recovery to install this? where could i get those files from either an .apk or a .zip.
Thanks for any help guys.
i believe the contacts is two apks contacts and contactsprovider. And you cannot get them into a sense rom by merely installing it, theres some wierd issue with it if u try to replace the senseui's contacts with it...
I know what you mean with wanting this, but if you're willing, try a different rom to see what you like at the same time? Something AOSP built. If you search there are ways to adb push the stock contact app which is what you want, but that includes the dialer which you also need if you want the contacts.
If you're willing to experiment, try a different rom. I was on AuraxTSense 8.1.1 also, but the battery drain was totally annoying. So I went to Oxygen and I haven't looked back (and has the contact app which you want). Done 18 hours on my phone today with relatively standard usage and, went down to 32%, amazing tbh.

You can try to flash the "Android_Contacts.zip" file that is found on the mini-site I built for LeeDrOiD's ROMs. I have done so in the past (flashed through recovery) and both the HTC People AND stock Android Contacts seem to co-exist in perfect harmony It simply asks you which you'd like to launch when tapping the "Phone" button for example.
Of course it would be wise to perform a Nandroid backup first just for safety's sake!
Sense should allow all that harmonies in AOSP rom too. why dont they~~
Thanks for all the replys. im gona go try that website now!! ill post how i get on.
ok tried that but just got a load of force close messages before i could even start up the app. is there any .apk on the marketplace that would do this, or even a similar app. I know you can get it on sense cause i had it on one of the sense roms that i use. I just like AuraxTsense because of the power control in the notification area.
well actually i dont understand why do you want the android dialer? Sense dialer is what people want. Well at least i want it it, want it so much but sad it cant be used on AOSP roms.
Cause i love having to click a phone app and having my dialer/contacts/recent calls all in one app and just tabbed on the top. I dont care if its the android dialer but this is the best one ive seen laid out for what i want. Is it possible to get the samsung one or a similar app?
Ricochet I totally agree on that. The standard Android dialer app is way more functional and looks nicer too IMHO. Only thing missing is T9 search. I used Dialer One from the market when I wasnt rooted, however found it to be less snappy then a standard app.

I tried that and it somewhat worked. The dialer comes up but the contacts aren't there. The favorites and call logs are populated though. I'm using an HD rom though so I'm not sure it's the same (RCmixHD)
Tust found "TouchPal Smart Dialer" in the market. The main screen is a mix of HTC with Android Contacts tabs at the top. Gonna try this out to test functionality, but the layout is awesome!
Thanks man, that app is exactly what i wanted.
