I just had a bad experience with MyBackup Pro. I just re-flashed from Sky Raider 2.00 to 2.01. Everything worked beautifully after re-booting under the new ROM. So then I attempted to Restore my apks+data with MyBackup Pro. But after that finished, I never saw such a mess after a re-boot. Thank God I had a nand backup... So now that I'm back where I started from, is there an app out there that actually works? I'd like to try this again.
I'm not sure why MyBackup didn't work. I heard some good things about it, and that is why I decided to try it.
I've also heard of Titanium Backup...but has anyone restored SUCCESSFULLY after a ROM upgrade with this utility?
Just posted this in another thread so I feel like a broken record but yes, I used Titanium to backup pre-2.2, installed CyanogenMod 6, and restored apps+data (NOT system data) and everything seems to have turned out fine.
When you say you've never seen such a mess after a reboot, what exactly do you mean?
I use titanium everyone I write and install a new rom,for sky raider and cyanogen..great app.never had a problem
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
The "mess" I talked about was some apps that wouldn't run. I would get errors instead. Outlines for some widgets instead of widgets. Wallpaper didn't change, but icon placement was as it was before re-flash. POP mail account lost config. Etc. I didn't make a list. I just said enough of this and did a nand restore.
So if I use Titanium, what should the procedure be to be sure I get back everything as it was? Or am I asking too much? Will I still have to reconfigure some things?
I just installed Titanium Backup. It doesn't appear to be as user friendly as MyBackup Pro. Can you give me some brief advice? I'd really appreciate it. I'm still wet behind the ears.
Thanks!
I use Backup Pro and haven't had any issues. I have had a few oddball apps not backup but never one that I bought or downloaded from the Market.

I've only used it a few times so I'm not exactly a pro, but here goes. There's a tab that says backup/restore, that has a list of your apps and whether or not there's a backup of the app. If you hit Menu and go into batch mode, that's where all the good stuff is. Before I flash a rom I'll go into batch and back up all user apps and system data. You can also schedule backups to be performed while you're sleeping or something, just so you always have new backups.
To restore, you can go into batch mode and restore apps and data. When I went to CyanogenMod6 from stock, I restored only apps and app data. I didn't restore system data because I'm pretty sure if you restore system data when moving between roms it causes a lot of problems (I'm not an expert though, might wanna ask someone more knowledgeable).
Another thing to consider: if you have a lot of apps, Titanium is a giant pain in the ass unless you have the donate version. With the free version, it asks for confirmation when restoring each app, so that can be very bothersome. The paid one does everything automatically.
Hope this helps
I have been searching and reading through posts for a few days now, so this post is not for lack of trying.
I am unable to use Titanium Backup. It says I need to have BusyBox, which will not install saying that I do not have "nand" access or something (a bit of a noob here).
I've also tried to backup through ROMManager, but all it does is reset my phone and tells me that it cannot backup, and gives me a long list of things to try. I have done most if not all, to no avail. Help?

Thanks, I appreciate the advice on doing this the correct way. I know what my mistake was now, it was the fact that I also restored the system data. I'll try this again tonight when I get home...

If you go into Titanium, there is a button that says "problems", click that and there should be a button that should install busybox for you.
Thank you, I read the forums, but not the buttons on my screen... stupid. :-(

gmonox is on point. I went through all of this yesterday after getting Froyo. My apps all reinstalled and seem to work just fine with one exception. I had a NexusMod Live wallpaper that wouldn't work. Sad too because it was my favorite because it was Cyanogen inspired and just used the cyan color. Other than that, everything seemed to work fine.
MyBackup Pro still has issues under Froyo. The permissions banner will not go away after backing up. I have to reboot my phone to get it to go away. My task killers don't work on this.
Did some searching on this but it came up blank, so maybe someone has a brilliant idea for this
Almost every other day we are getting new builds for Android. I'm sure many of you are like me and have a set of APKs you install with every build. For example SWYPE.
I would like to know if there is a way, when installing a new build, you can have certain apps auto-installed. This would really save me time.
Can't you just put them in the "AndroidApps" folder that usually comes with every build..?

Wasn't sure if that was the proper way it was done. I tried that once, needless to say it didn't work out to well. Had to eat a hard reset.
Anyways, can anyone confirm that this is the best way to do it, or if you know of another that would be great. Please share!
Yup!
yes, i'm 99.9% sure that this is a way to auto-install apps onto your phone, as i've read this in other threads which say the same thing
I did this myself with darkstone's builds. I just loaded up the android apps folder. On second boot I had issues so I then deleted all those apps through winmo and everything was fine again. Not sure with this folder that everytime you boot it tries to reinstall or not. Would like some clarification on that.
Not worked for me
I would suggest downloading 7zip file manager, then when you download your desired rom then just open it up. Navigate to the data/apps folder and drop your apps in there, when you flash the rom then your personal apps will be flashed and installed as if they came with the rom already.
That's what I do and I have never had an issue.

there are some adb apk tools that could probably do a batch install
Am i right that after putting those in your folder, after hard reset all those apps that were there will reinstall(those that you wanted, and those you uninstalled)? Or there will be trouble uninstalling as it is part of ROM?
Personally i used one of those App Backup & Restore apps from market. I had to spend 10 minutes pressing "Accept" cause they install by regular way, but it was quite fast anyway.

Now which folder are you referring to? When I mentioned placing apps, I was talking about putting them into the data/app folder of the rom zip you are flashing so they will be installed on first boot.
As for backing up and restoring apps, I suggest using MyBackup as it does apps plus their associated data as a batch backup/restore. It doesn't require you to accept each one.
Please mybackup will do sms/mms, call logs, browser shortcuts, and so on. Here is the market link for it: MyBackup

I got you right, and i thought that as they are part of ROM, they will be saved and restored when hard reseting(even if you uninstalled them on purpose).
Thiss app sounds really nice, i shall try it out.
EDIT
Look what i found when i came to forum by main site of xda: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23291051
Seems nice.
Hi,
Does anyone know where angry birds saved file is located? I finished the game & now I have to re-format my sd card.....
Just backup you data.
One way is to save all of your Android stuff to your PC. Then place it back on the SD card after you reformat.
Another way is to save your data.img before you reformat your SD card.
A third is to use titanium backup from the market (free) and backup that app with data. After you reformat you can restore angry birds with your save data in tact.
Of course, you could always beat it again... it is a game after all.
+1 on the question of the OP
in my case, titanium is not an option, as my Android build incessantly shows the FC message android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. I cant use any programss as the pop up keeps showing, but i can access my root via droid explorer. Looks like a file got corrupted. Using mdeejay's Desire HD 3.6 BTW.
Id really hate to lose what 2 straight sleepless nights have merited me LOL
Any help n where to find the angry birds save data? or ANY program data for that amtter...maybe i can take it from there

I had also once that titanium wouldn't start. It seemed that superuser doesn't worked well. So you can start superuser and see if titanium is added.

Look in /data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds, try copying that folder to another android build. But I'd back up your corrupted image before doing anything else, that way you can always restore.

Ok im into same issue . So did you finally restored your game ? because i'll be wiping out my device soon.
Hi,
I tried both methods when restoring a backup. The folder method works, but after you reinstalled the game. I also had to modify the folder permissions. Otherwise, Titanium backup works very well too but here's what I did:
1. Backup old data from old ROM
2. Boot new fresh ROM.
3. Install Angry Birds from market or manually.
4. Install Titanium Backup if it's not done
5. Click "Got problems"
6. Install the new busybox version
7. Go to restore, look for Angry birds in the list, click it one and click restore to restore data.
This worked perfectly for me.

I'm a bit of an Android newbie - so can you tell me what I need to use to copy this folder?
If I look on my PC, the only DATA file I have is data.img
If I go into the Android folder, there is a Data folder... but it only has one folder in it - com.cooliris.media.
I'm very tempted to order a Desire Z in the next few days - and ideally I'd like to copy my Angry Birds progress onto this!

Hi, I suggest getting root explorer. It should let you see the system folders. You should see folders like /sys,/system,/tmp,/proc, etc.
When you see this, go in data/data to get the information. Otherwise, use Titanium Backup as I've mentionned above. Other people have said that My Backup pro works really well too for Angry Birds.

the reason you get those errors is from backing up and restoring sys data on a rom with diferent framework.
solution: only backup/restore apps/data
thers no possibility to copy the savefile directly from the sd card to the pc? i mean, when only my sd card is connected to pc.. that way we could just copy the file back after formatting
on a windows pc... lol sure, theres ways...
on a linux box... piece of cake, even for a noob...

I have actually found this folder but where do you copy it too.
I have just changed to another android build but still have the other one on my SD card so i can boot either one of them with the bootloader so i dont know where to put a copy of this folder so that my current android2 folder sees it.
Any ideas?

Hello everyone,
I am pretty sure this has been brought up by many others in various other sub-forums of XDA, but I have never had this issue prior to yesterday's update. let me break it down real quick.
So basically I had an Atrix that was flashed with the HKTW version of 2.3.4 GB. Prior to that, I had backed up all my apps from the Froyo Rom and used it to restore to Gingerbread and everything restored fine, every single app was reinstalled.
However, since that version of 2.3.4 has so many bugs, I decided to finally update to the official ATT version of it, using Ken's ROM. Again, prior to flashing I backed up the apps using Titanium backup and proceeded with the flashing.
After all is done, I went ahead to try restoring the apps, but less than half of them got restored. over a hundred of my apps (and the critical ones too) do not get restored. I ran the batch for restoring missing apps, but it just blitz through all the apps without prompting installation. Thus, those apps don't get installed at all in the phone.
Is there something i should be doing to get these other apps installed? I've never had an issue like this, and it's really giving me a hard time. I have even tried different roms of the 2.3.4 variant and nothing is making a difference.
Please, any help is appreciated.
p.s. I read someone in another forum mention he resolved a similar issue by using My Backup Pro. How can you use My Backup to restore TiBu files?
doing individual restores won't work?

How do I do so kind sir? I'm still not quite familiar with TiBu after all this time haha.
Also, in case this matters, the apps under the Restore Missing Apps Batch are all crossed out, and you can only select or deselect them. Funny part is, the apps that installed properly were also crossed out so it's all really weird now.

Seems like a lot of folks had problems when they restored apps after flashing to 2.3.4.
I just reloaded everything from the app store to avoid issues.

Lol! Tbh, I can't actually remember what are all the critical ones. I know my Root Explorer and My Backup Root did not install. Other things like the different apps for my widget are also missing.
I actually found out why I cant restore those Apps. They were missing the APKs from the TiBu backup folder. for example, my Engadget App only has 2 files, a tar file and properties file. I'm guessing those 2 are the data files?
That is weird. i haven't any problems restoring apps. I know there was some problems with an older version of Titanium Backup.
*Double post*
Yeah, i never had a problem before, but this time, most of my backups are missing the Apk files. Now I'm gonna have to revert further back and loose some apps. Hopefully I'm not losing too much. I can't remember how many apps I installed since my last backup.

Don't think it's a TiBU 2.34 compatibility issue... must be something else going on as all my 2.3.4 restores have been fine and i have both of the examples you mentioned Root Explorer and My Backup Root...
I think its a 5.4.2A problem as I haven't been able to install some apps on any rom based of that build

It may have been that when you set up backups on HKTW 2.3.4 that you mistakenly hit the radio button for data only and it overwrote your app and data backups.
You aren't completely dead in the water... You can download the apps again and then restore the data you have.
Hi to all,
I copied verythink from the old SD to the new one. Now all my Apps are missing. And even when I insert the old one they are not there. And yes I rebooted the phone, more than once.
I also tried Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.9 but it's not booting with this. So I reinstalled Elelinux-2.1-Hero-update1-Reloaded, but no change.
On the new one I don't even have the Market app anymore.
Can anybody tell me what I can do now?
Thanks,

Hi,
When you flashed the new ROM, did you wiped data and cache?
If so, all applications installed are removed. Even if they are installed on sd card.
To avoid this, a prior backup is necessary. Look on Titanium Backup.

Yes, I tried a bid more last night (germany ) and I did a backup with Titanium and MyPhoneExplorer and than I wiped all data and got the Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.9 running now.
by the way, I installed all the apps on the phone.
I am still interested in an answer, why all apps where lost by a simple SD-Card switch?
Thanks David
Hi,
like I said I have Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.9 running.
I get some lacks, like with the music player the music stops sometimes or sounds funny. And the change from one home screen to an other is also very slow.
I have been going some reading, and now wonder if I can give this ROM a swap partition. And how can I do that.
You can see that I am an noobe to xda and custom roms for android.
I have some general questions.
What is the difference between the Light and the normal version?
Is there a tut for flasing/installing roms?
Thanks David
I think you did something wrong because that ROM was working perfectly for me. Make sure you don't reset to factory settings, but also wipe the cache AND dalvik cache (you can find it under advanced in the recovery menu). Then you can install your zip file and reboot. Normally you won't get in a boot loop now.
Good luck
About the light and normal version, the normal version has some apps integrated (Facebook, Twitter and a few more). I prefer the light version because I don't use those apps very often.
@GXGOW:
Thanks I will try the light version then. I don't need those as well.
You misunderstood me there I have no boot loops. The phone is just a bit slow. I have to wait a while (20 Seconds) for the home screen when I come from the apps. And scrolling also wants to be pleased. Whats why I asked for the swap partition on the sd-card. I read about it here, that there are ROMs which support that. So I was wondering if this one as well.
Thanks anyways
David
