I have Flashed my phone more times than calls made...
The good thing: You'd make a Good ALPHA tester....
The bad thing: Samsung will still not make you the first tester for Froyo

Got a good chuckle from this thread. Not gonna lie.

It seems like I flash or restore a new rom once or twice a week now. I thought I'd be able to drive Eugene's froyo rom for a while without flashing, but then he even came out with an update for it the next day with promises of more tweaks to come. Plus I really want to try that Bionix Fusion.

You're on a mobile phone developer forum, what other mental images could you possibly come up with?
Every time you flash a new rom, its like opening up a new present.
... of course you get the occasional coals...

You experts seem to be the ones to ask. I want to do this. Bionix Fusion ROM. Just a few questions for clarity.
What backups should I do? I've done a clockwork backup, should I also do a titanium? Once I flash would I use titanium to restore things?
What am I going to lose? I thought I read somewhere that SIMS will disappear. If so, how do I deal with this?
Will my carrier unlock be undone? If it is, can I use the same unlock code I used when I unlocked the last time?
Any other gotchas I need to be aware of?

Always do a back up with clockwork. This back up will put you back exactly where you were with apps and all.
When u flash a rom like this it will wipe all apps and settings, texts and calls and contacts. I use astro to back up the apps I want to keep. Settings are always better if u do them ur self. In my opinion new settings should be used for every rom flash. Contacts are an easy fix if you sync with Google. If not, there's a "back up contacts" option in the stock contacts app.
It does wipe Sims. You can use astro or myfiles to find the Sims data and apk and copy paste it to ur external sdcard and replace when u flash a new rom. I could be wrong here tho and u should do some research on the Sims subject.
Carrier unlock I have no idea about.
That's about it. Flashing roms have become clockwork(lol) to me.

No it does not lock the phone, and the codes are always the same for the device, but you still can use the same system to get them codes.
Do we need to start a support group? RFA...Rom Flashers Anonymous.
Hi my name is Ed and I am a rom flasher. I have had the Vibrant for about a month, which happens to be my first smartphone, and I have flashed just about everything in the development section. I am hopelessly hooked. If they keep making them...well, I'll keep flashing them.
Flash on my friends.
I'm having post dramatic flash withdrawals. I find myself waking in the middle of the night phone in hand in recovery mode. I've tried smoking eating drinking upgrading my old g1 but nothing helps.
I am an addict and if flashing is wrong then I don't wanna be right.

Just jumped ships from sprint and got my facinate. Today rooted with one click and tried installing clock work. Thmanage rom manager. All seems well then suddenly my phone freezes for ten minutes I have to do a battery pull. Phone wont boot in anyway or form now. No lights or signs of life other than if I hold the power button as long as its pressed. A device labeled SEC S5PC110 Test B/D appears in device manager. And that'd all it will do. Thinking about exchanging it tomorrow afternoon. Just letting the community know what happened to me any thoughts as how or what happened might be able to help future mishaps
I'd try doing an odin flash. Just search the forums for the step by step. If u can get the phone into flash mode.
Yeah dude, definitely try Odin. Did you try flashing cwm from within ROM manager? I ask because that doesn't work for our phones yet, and it wouldn't surprise me if that could cause problems. I would use Odin to flash it back to stock, and then use the very thorough guide on here on how to get cwm going.

Hard for him to do a backup when he got bricked installing CWM LOL
Possibly bootlocked.
Newer Fascinates seem to be locked. Don't know if there is any way to tell which you've got without attempting a modification of the system....which would of course, result in the above nastiness....
I would think that if newer fascinates were boot locked, so would mesmerizes and I first flashed the stock files for Verizon on my phone then went to elements zinc (which is awesome BTW) installed voodoo 1200 kernel and everything is working great for me. Could just be that he got a bunk phone or something

This is my first post, but I have been a long term viewer. I am on my knees begging. I recently flashed and rooted my samsung showcase for cellular south. I really messed up and flashed the radio/baseband. I desperately need a stock baseband for the cellular south showcase. Their current baseband is S:i500:04K.DJ20. I talked to someone at the store and they have confirmed that this is the problem with my phone. Any help would be appreciated.
what modem did you flash? DL09? thats a no-no. ur probably screwed but idk what miracles adryn could do for u
Yeah. I flashed the DL09 radio. Major mess up. The phone will text and call, but won't get on internet. The cellular south guy said it was most likely the radio because when calling *228, it will only update the lock code, it will not retrieve the mdn and other stuff.
You're going to need to find the DJ20 modem file for your phone to be able to fix it. Good luck.
Yeah. Thats what I figured. I have been looking high and low today. I have search probably 300 sites looking for it. Thanks for the help guys.

Here is Samsung's Official Open source page. http://opensource.samsung.com/
If you can get someone to look into it, i don't know if the baseband is included in the source code or not. I would think thats carrier based?? I don't know... by the way, this information will be no good in your hands... you need to find the source code for your phone (which is still sch-i500 I think just find the right carrier, about half way down the mobile open source page) and give it to someone that can pick it apart.
EDIT: I removed my original post to avoid unneeded conflict..
i have a link for you that is more specific, i would download zip on your computer and see what is in it first, possibly a radio/modem?? maybe idk.. but heres the link.. might get you one step closer. Hope this helps.
You have to accept and possibly register to download it but may be worth 5 minutes in your case.

I did actually flash the mesmerize to my phone as a last ditch effort the other day. It did not brick it, and the radio was similar to the stock one. It allowed me to *228 and it downloaded the mdn, but still no go on the internet. Call and text work, which is a plus. I am going to get into qpst and pull the settings from my hero. My showcase is only a week old...
Now that I think about it, if calling and texting work, shouldn't everything else? Could one of the settings in the prl or some other file (##DATA#) be incorrect?

considering what sprints up to with their base stations, customer service improvements, and the fact that even when i worked for em 3-4 years ago, they were always updating their rms/rms+/fast/snap/fdt systems, i can't say i'm too surprised.
the leg up they go for on the other companies afterall is trying to be the first to the gate with tech.
anything our system info can tell, i'm sure they can see. kernel/rom/etc. i doubt they'd act on it unless its a store visit though. or i'd hope not anyways. it'd be strange and surprising to see the company thats the easiest on the rom community(they're the only ones who kept their mouth shut about wireless tether so far, and the easiest with 3rd party apps from the beginning) to turn on them.

They knew on my wifes Intercept two weeks ago and the tech support just asked if rom I was using was better than stock. I said yes, and he said that it s the only way to get that phone to function properly. He then took care of my issue as if it was a "non-rooted" phone.
I had my external speaker go out and took it up to the Sprint store to get the speaker replaced. The tech asked me if I rooted it, but he didn't have a problem with that.
The problem I had was that replacing the speaker screwed up the phone somehow so I had to re-flash. Meaning it wouldn't boot properly. But that is another story.

OK - it makes sense that a tech/repair guy at the local Sprint store might be able to tell if you've "rooted" your phone ( by the way - didn't you all Odin back to stock ? ) ; but are you saying that Sprint HQ can tell if I'm rooted/ROMed just by me calling them from my Epic ? ....... I could care less about the Intercept...that damn thing can burn in a pit...which may actually help it function better than it currently does.
Not sure if they have a system or not, but I laughed that the dude knew the only way it works is with a custom ROM. I have Ubentdroid on it and at least the capacitive buttons work now.
If you can't tell, I would not recommend the Intercept. It sucks more than the suckiest suck that ever sucked.

Sometimes its an issue that isnt a biggie, so unroot is a waste of time. With my wifes, it was that her phone stopped being recognized on Sprint service. It ended up being an account screw up.
Well this is simple, we can just create a flashable zip to simply change the baseband to display the stock one.
(Haven't done any rom developement, so I don't know where that file lies.)

EXACTLY! why take a chance? especially if you have lost/stolen protection, you don't want to give them a reason to screw you over. good to know they can figure it out over the phone as well tho. hopefully they stay content letting people root away w/ no consequence except for a voided warranty, considering all the reasons they give customers for rooting (CIQ, DRM, ect...)

Three mornings ago I woke up to find wifi couldn't start on my phone. Nothing I tried fixed it. It's a hardware issue. Verizon refused to fix it because I admitted it was rooted. The local repair shop is afraid of breaking the digitizer if they take it apart and besides, who knows what's wrong?

Ok. I reset it back to the condition it was when I got it. I odin'd the ANI1 modem and the ANJ5 stock restore. I don't know what else to do.
I don't have the new phone yet. Probably tomorrow evening or Monday. If I can fix it and don't decide to cancel TMo I could sell it. It shows a little wear around the USB port but other than that it's totally scratch free. It was always in an Otterbox case.

Isn't that going to overwrite the Dev Ed bootloader? I guess that's ok though because it's useless as a Developer Edition anyway right? And then I can do the unlock procedure.
It failed. It wants me to do the Verizon Software Repair Assistant. It probably failed because of the hardware issue right?
Update: On the second try it flashed and finished booting up. There were only 22 apps to optimize. Wifi still doesn't work. It did lose developer mode.

We'll get DE back after you are stable. Uninstall Verizon Software Repair Assistant and Kies if you have it. To me, it looks like a USB/Driver/Software conflict going on preventing a successful flash. Try a different computer, and a different USB cable. Something is interrupting the write process.

I flashed a ton of stuff through Odin and TWRP both. Everything seemed to flash correctly with the same result every time. Wifi wouldn't work. I can't help but think it's hardware. I think it baked this jumper wire that's right between the battery and the Wifi til it broke. Too many times heating it up by optimizing apps.

Sorry to hear that....hoped you could revive it. For sure these things get blistering hot! I've been flashing like crazy this past week thinking my phone is cookin! So I know what your saying could be the culprit. Still hoping you find a way!
