GT 2.... - Galaxy Tab General

I sure hope the only GT 2 isn't in 10.1 format. I was looking forward to a 7" GT2.
Thoughts?

It is 10.1 unfortunately.
I'm dissapointed. To say the least. They were the ones who said 7" is perfect for tablets because its portable. Now they've gone back on themselves.
Sent from zombie infested Gingerbread.

Ok...that sucks!!! So they are coming out with a wifi only tab, which is going to be 7"...i guess itll have the same specs as the current one. The question is this...i paid 499 for this 7" tab...are they going to be selling the gt2 10.1 at the same price? It only makes sense since the ipad is 499. Now lies the question is this 7" tab good for me or do I return for the 10.1......argh!!!

Thanks, but I can careless about a 10" tab...too big! Not to mention it's going to be anywhere from $700-$800 bucks!

A 10 inch GTab is great news , means Samsung wont forget about us 7" users because they have a new 7" model out..
Well I hope at least

I don't think they've gone back on themselves - they've just introduced a new, larger, model. The 10.1" Tab will compete directly with the iPad, whereas IMO the 7" Tab was always a completely different class of device.
The 10.1" tablets are going to be great, but I don't think they will replace the 7" form factor because the larger tablets simply aren't as portable. I suspect that the 7" device will continue to be produced, and ultimately replaced by a new 7" model at some point down the line.

Samsung May Cut the Price of GTab 10.1

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/04/samsung-finds-parts-of-galaxy-tab-10-1-inadequate-compared-to/
I guess that makes sense. Hopefully, it will be more in the $600-$700 range. Too bad there is no Wifi only version yet. If we can get $500 wifi only Gtab 10.1, it will be much more competitive. It's kind of dumb on Samsung's part not to have multiple pricing tiers. May have to do with cost of manufacturer. I don't know.
Which will mean cheaper parts i am thinking - Maybe the spec will be changed. Main thing will it delay the tab?
I think the specs wont be chged. The original price is too expensive n they cant duel to ipad 2 with tat kind of spec
Thanks to Apple that Samsung will decrease the prices of this tablet.
"A carrier source told ChannelNews that they are expecting a head on battle" between the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the new Apple iPad 2 and that the "go price of the 10.1" Samsung Galaxy Tab" was being adjusted from what was originally given to carriers."
Source:smarthouse.com.au/Home_Office/Notebooks_And_Tablets/Q9T3W9D3
That's great news, now if only we knew an exact release date.
Release date 03/22/11
http://www.samsungunpacked.com/html_ver2/
According to some sources. The release date for 7'', 8.9'', and 10.1'' GTabs is 03/22. That's what "78910" stands for. Lets see how many want to wait another 11 days after Ipad 2 to get Gtabs.
That event is for the launch of the 7.8" tablet. I would expect the 10.1" to have been released by then in Europe (or in some of them at least)
8.9" not 7.8" fyi

I love the fact that apple made the ipad 2 so cheap bc now I may actually be able to afford the gTab 10.1 before the end of the year...But if the gTab is anything like the Xoom I will lean near getting an ipad 2.
Also does anyone know if the gtab 10.1 has a sd card slot bc none of the videos I have seen show it having one?

What!! Ok, so let me get this stright; the gTab 10. is going to be a xoom basicly just with speakers in a different place, the mic in a weird place, and no sd card? All I have to say to that is wow, just wow, and the following I am about to say:
I don't know if it is just all the hype about the 10.1 tablets or what, but I am somewhat disappointed...I mean I think Moto should have took more time in deciding the placement of things and I think Samsung should have payed more attention in what people want(like an sd card slot, etc.) instead of just trying to make their tablet better then the Xoom and ipad2.
I could care less with SD card
Why? I am using Nexus S which does not have one and I don't miss anything.
Although, I prefer to have 64GB model, but GTab 10.1 has only 16GB and 32GB model.
I am hoping the upcoming GTab 8.9" has 64 GB model!

Well, I for one would be all but lost with no sd card slot...I mean I hardly use it but I always like to have the option.
I am not even going to bother ruling this out of my to buy list yet though bc I somehow always end up buying another Samsung device after I say I am done with them.
The truth of the matter is most people will never be satisfied with a product unless they have a say into it's design. Everyone has a idea of how it should be designed based on what they want, so unless they come out with a design-a-tablet, you'll be stuck with what's available. So since designing a tablet is the most unreal option, you will settle. To say that you won't get this because it lacks an sd slot, then why are you going after the ipad2? That too doesn't have an sd slot. If you are saying because of the size of the tablet, then you are willing to pay the over $800 price tag for a 64GB tablet? You might change your mind when you see a 32GB tablet that has great specs and reviews (so far) for prob around $500-600.
You can look towards the Toshiba Tablet, but it looks heavier than this, the Xoom and the ipad even. Maybe the HTC 10in tablet will be more to your taste, but you should hurry and get your ideas in to them so they put the buttons where you want them.

First of all a design-a-tablet would be so awesome, and oddly enough I can see that happening in the future...
Secondly, I suppose your right if sd card is my issue then why go with a device with no sd card slot also...and I need to quit acting like Galaxy Tab 10.1, xoom, and ipad 2 will be my only three choices...
Also I suppose their is also the fact that if I get ipad 2 I will need to buy apps I bought for android like Pocket God all over again.
Ok, so I decided I think I will wait to see a few more of the new Honeycomb tablets that come out before I make a choice about which one to buy.
Trust me, you won't be sorry you waited either. Just think how many times have you said these words: I wish I would have waited. I have said it countless times and have regretted that I didn't wait. Just look at the Xoom buyers, some are truly not enjoying their tablets right now.
Well for me the wait is almost over. Here I go...I'm on my way to the next Galaxy...To Infinity and Beyond!!!
Samsung should get the rights to that phrase. It would make a great a sales pitch. They could release a copy of Toy Story 3 with every Tab 10.1
That would be pretty cool...And I suppose the Samsung 10.1 might not be as bad as I see in videos bc as I recall I didn't decide to finally get my first gTab until I got to mess around with it a bit in the stores.
Anyone seen this one?
It just went to FCC for testing. Should be releasing soon.
Appears to have MicroSD & HDMI.
Any thoughts?
The Asus does look very interesting. A tab/notebook hybrid.
While I can see the appeal of having the transformer for on the go, I don't like the idea for around the house (my want for a table). I like the slider concept a lot better as it looks as functional as the transformer without having a decapitated keyboard on a desk/table somewhere.
It's a shame Toshiba is staggering their models release. I really want something now.

As the title suggests, seems like Samsung will release a new 7" Tab in the fall

Exynos, thinner/lighter with Super PLS screen
i dont think there is a big market for a 7-inch tablet....
Hmm why u say that?
We all have a 7' inch tablet..., but we dont need another one...
I dont know if the new version can compete with the htc flyer, let's see maybe the usb dock connector or the usbhostdrivers wateva will help us a little.

Original Tab, Blackberry Playbook, and HTC Flyer says no. As would the Asus Eee Pad MeMo and Acer Iconia A100 when they ship.
Tablets larger than 7" are great for when you are at home, but they do mean you have to carry a bag when you are out and about to put it in. 7" tablets fit neatly in jacket pockets and therefore are a much better proposition if you are intending to use it on the move.
I have a GalTab 7" and an Asus Transformer 10.1, and whilst they are both excellent devices, the TF cannot compete with the GT7 on portability, so if there is a chance of an upgraded GT7, I'm in the market for one.

as i'm or you the manager of samsung , do i release 2 10 & 8 at the same time or do i release 7&10 at the same time , for me it will be a big lose . specially when now the rumors comes out .. if they think to do it . probably will take a time perhaps next year , but hell no this year

They mention;
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 will supposedly run Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4.0 (no Honeycomb initially) and it will be able to make voice and video calls and send SMS , just like the Tab 8.9 (which does run Honeycomb).
If this is supported by the USA carriers to allow cell calls, then I will give my current tab to my daughter, and get the new one.

What about the release of the current 7 with rumors circulating mere months later of new tabs on their way? And like you said before, the 7 inch tab market is certainly more niche, so those that want updated hardware in the small form factor could care less about the other tabs and are waiting for an updated 7.
I have a friend at work that has already picked up one galaxy tab 7 for his wife about a month ago despite the other tablets that are available now. He is talking about getting another for himself soon. Equipped with this rumor, he might wait awhile to see if anything materializes.

I'll buy one. No regrets purchasing the 1st one.
If it is true, I am glad that they are using Exynos processor.
But for sure I wont buy new tab just couse of better processor, current one is great for web surfing+youtube+kindle+chess, they need to offer me something more. I would like to see how 8.9 tab fits in hand

[Q]Nexus 10? Also I'm sad.

Today is a sad day I had to return my Nexus 7. The screen was VERY unresponsive and i showed the employee at walmart after turning on the touch location indications in developer options I asked him to type something, he was like "my god this is horrible." lol the responsiveness was horrible so anyways he gave me all my money back and I had bought the last one therefore after having it for only about 1 month they had not received their next shipment so i'm nexus-7-less
Now, What are the odds of a nexus 10? The nexus 7, in my opinion can't be an ipad killer unless of course it was the same size. The nexus 10 would be ahead of apple in so many aspects it would be ridiculous.
Not sure if i ever mentioned this but i'm the only person in my entire family that has an android phone. The rest EXCEPT ONE are apple fanboys (not really including my mother on this one. She doesnt know what technology is with her prepaid phone lol) Ok so when i got it my brother (the one that is a fanboy) was like L0L UR SO GAY THE IP4D SH1TS ON TH4T l3RO!)*@$& But then my smart brother who has an iphone but isn't an apple fanfag (i mean fanboy ) So he called my brother a retard and said he doesn't know what hes talking about and this literally ****s on every apple device in existence and that if you look at the specs, the nexus definitely wins.
ANYWAYS wayyy off track there. So Nexus 10? Is it just a rumor or is that for real?
Noone knows at this point.. but it would be for sure, not only an iPad killed, but an Gallaxy Tab/Transformers Pad/etc Killer.
Only the Note 10.1 would survive thanks to his different category as tabled imho.

well, just wait. You may get Nexus 10 as an option. Who knows.
But my crystal ball is saying "Google would be stupid to compete with iPad". It's too risky and they can't drive the price as low as N7. It's going to be a hard sell. Look at all the Transformers and Tab out there. Are they outselling iPads? Not by a long reach.

I don't see why not; they can treat it as an upgrade, just like the 16GB version, to the $199 that's the primary thrust of their advertising.
The transformers and tabs are still quite expensive, $400 or more. A N10 at $250 or even $300 could sell well. (I would guess 8GB/16GB versions or something.)
That said, there's no concrete data so far about any N10. Unfortunately.

It would be incredibly hard to out sell the iPad due to the customer loyalty and reputation they have compared to Android. Know any phone that has sold more than the iphone? You also have too remember that Apple had a good 2 years headstart on android and only in the last year or two have the handsets really challenged the customer to think about changing.
Google pretty much has to release a Nexus 10 (or equivalent) now that Amazon has announced the 8.9" Kindle Fire. Otherwise they'll essentially be ceding the full-size Android tablet market to Amazon.
Personally not a fan of 10 inch tablets, but If they made a Nexus 10 then i would deff buy it. I was never really interested in tablets before but the n7 quickly changed my mind. Amazing specs, great price, and pure android.

7" is nice for portability but if you mainly just use it on the couch or something a 9" or 10" lets you do more, like view websites in landscape as you would on a desktop computer. It just feels less cramped and doesn't constrain you to the mobile view of websites so much. I'm hoping Google releases a Nexus 9 or Nexus 10 after seeing the new larger Kindle as well as the Nook HD+. $300 would be a great price, I'd probably even buy it for $350.
My point exactly

The s3 outsold the iPhone dude.... do some research. S3 was the most pre-order vice in history. No iPhone in history comes close to the amount of sales the s3 had.
I've got a 10" device, it's the Toshiba THRiVE AT100. It collects dust.
I literally ONLY use it for watching videos while I'm laying down, (It's always charging on the corner of my bed.) And when friends come over, they use it to play games and browse the internet.
I understand, it's a relatively forgotten device, It doesn't currently have a custom kernel for the ICS build, and it's pretty under powered.(2x1GHzTegra2)
But it's HUGE, besides the fact that it weighs around 1.3 pounds, it's just awkward. I would guess that anywhere around 75-90% of all apps are designed for 3.5' - 5' screens. There's just so much screen real estate that is almost never used on a large tablet like that.
I get that if Google made a 10" tablet, it could actually be good. But I'm not going to hold by breath.
Google doesn't make any tablets at all. The Nexus 7 is made by Asus marketed with a Google brand. My father has an Asus Transformer TF300 and it is pretty much what a 10 inch Nexus would be. It looks almost the same, it is running the same Tegra 3 processor, it is running the same vanilla Jellybean as it's stock OS. What exactly would you expect to get if they stamped it with Google's logo?

Price. It looks like the TF300T has come down a bit, but I'm pretty sure it started well over $400. I'm looking for $299, and given the $199 Nexus 7, I think Google could deliver it (maybe $349, I don't think they'd exceed that). Also a Nexus device is still going to offer a better guarantee of updates, as well as completely stock and no feature-creep (the OEMs love to bundle their own services and stores). The specs aren't totally there yet either. The TF300T is too low-res for its size (the new Nook HD 7" is higher res while being smaller), and the TF700T is better, but almost 500 bucks. Again, the new Nooks have it right: $299, 9", 1920 x 1280 res. We're getting there. There's no reason to think Google couldn't do a 9" Nexus device with the same res for the same price, just as they responded to the Kindle Fire with the Nexus 7.
I also think 10" can be a bit awkward, but ~9" like the new Nook HD+ might be perfect. 7" is just too small for a lot of websites and long-form tasks, especially if you're only ever using it on your couch.

This could be the new Note Pro 10.1 and Note Pro 8.4

I bet those are: Note Pro 8.4 wifi, Note Pro 8.4 LTE and Note Pro 10.1 WiFi (S-AMOLED)

The Note|Pro 12 is "SM-P905" and the Tab|Pro 12 is "SM-T905" so whatever they are those aren't Note's. Why do you guys assume those are high-end devices? The Tab|Pro 10.1 (based on European pricing) is already touching iPad Air pricing and Samsung just announced their 2014 premium tablet line. I'm assuming redone mid-range or even value devices.

I think you're right, these can't be Note devices, but there are already 8 inch Tabs. So worst case they are just mid-range Tabs, best case they are Google Play Editions.

The (non-Note) Wi-Fi Tab|Pro 8.4 is €389 while its nearest Android competitor, the LG G Pad 8.3, is €285 on Amazon DE. The iPad Mini is the exact same price at €389. The Wi-Fi Tab|Pro 10.1 is €479 while the iPad Air is also €479. So the high-end is covered and Samsung would have to be suicidal to price an Android tablet above iPad pricing even with a carbon fiber body and an AMOLED display. So with the max price point already hit it's probably safe to assume future 2014 devices will be aiming lower; in some cases significantly lower.
I thought this info already came out during CES. These are Galaxy Tabs not Notes.
Good thing we have Berry here to shoot threads like this down.

You've been in the threads where people are freaking out about the N10.1-14 being replaced by a Note|Pro 10.1 at some point. I personally think that's a lot less likely to happen now that M-UX appeared as a feature on the N10.1-14 global microsite. As Smoky Bear says, "the best fire is one you can prevent." And also "only you can prevent forest fires."
P.S. - If I was pushing for click-throughs like Phone Arena and SamMobile my spin would probably be different and laced with !!!! and inflammatory baseless opinion also.
People are freaking out because everyone here is afraid their shiny new toy might be obsolete (replaced by a better shiny new toy) after a mere 3 months

Or, what if they are the long rumored Nexus 10 replacement and recently rumored Nexus 8? The Nexus 10 had a Samsung model number (GT-P8110) so if Samsung's making the newer Nexi it would stand to reason they would too. The last tablet Samsung made with a "GT" moniker was the G-Tab 3 (GT-P5210) so the N10 fit with the then current naming convention. I wouldn't think Samsung would be interested in Google's contract Nexus business because of the lower margins but if they're looking to build up scale to drive down overall production costs (including for their own tablets and components) it could make sense.

which is dumb cause they released a bunch of tablets and none of them had better specs than ours. At best, they matched our specs. People need to calm down. All of them different in either screen size or spen and that's it.

That's the reason why I post here, because I haven't seen any discussion about these new rumored devices and I like getting input from all the smart people at XDA. So far I have heard all good info from here and am grateful for people with more insight than I have.

Yup. But to be fair I would be a little annoyed too if I found out that better versions of our tablets got announced 3 months later.

Samsung won't be making those.
I sure wish there were a google edition 10.1 ROM available...

Worth It?

I know this may be a biased crowd but I was wondering if this tablet is worth $319? I am in the market for a 10'' tablet and I've narrowed it down to a few options that include the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10''. Also is a good tablet? I've read some of the post in this forum and I'm hoping if I do chose to get this tablet that it'll get some custom roms because I am not a fan of touch wiz. So overall what do you guys think of the tablet?

I bought the 8" model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 and am very happy with it. I have also looked at and priced the 10" tablets and $319 is a very good price for the 10" tablets. I got the 8" tablet because it is a more portable tablet for me and it fits in my purse a lot easier than the bigger tablet.
I hope that this helps you out.

I just bought the 10.1 and I really like it. Size is a matter of pure personal choice though. I already have the Samsung Note 2, so I have a large "phablet" for browsing and needed my Tab to be large enough to do real business (excel, coding etc).
fyi... I also have the Logitech ultrathin folio for the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 (case and BT keyboard) and it rocks!
