Hi guys,
I am trying to use Odin 1.7, but I cannot get it to recognize my tab while in download mode. I can use Heimdall just fine.
I installed the USB drivers, but Odin does not show anything when I launch it.
I'm on Windows 7 and it shows "Gadget Serial" when plugged in.
Anyone have any advice for me?
Bump, can anyone give any advice? I can't get Odin to see that my tab is connected. Heimdall sees it just fine though.
Note, when I try to install the Odin 1.7 drivers, it tells me that the most updated drivers are already installed. Are the drivers for Heimdall the same ones as the Odin drivers?
Thanks!

First you have to sync with Kies to get the right drivers installed. So download Kies, install it, connect youre tab with the pc and let youre device sync once with Kies. As all is ok, then you will see in youre device-manager from youre pc a "Samsung Mobile device' or something simular.
After that turn on usb-debugging. Put youre phone in the download-modus, [turn it off, press and hold volume-down+powerbutton] Start Odin, and the connect youre phone with the pc. You will see in Odin on the left a yellow box with the com-port.
On the end you are allowed if you dont use Kies to uninstall it. Leave the Samsungdrivers as they are.

I didn't think that Kies recognized CDMA tabs. Is that incorrect? Also, I tried looking the other day, but can you point me to the correct version of Kies to download?
If you use windows 7 it already has the drivers, but you have to connect to the pc, and go to network settings, usb, then copy files to pc, then disconnect, then you can reconnect the tab when it is in download mode.

I recently soft-bricked my Vibrant so now it get stuck at the Vibrant screen and it is hardware locked. I can get my phone into download mode using adb but then it does not show up in ODIN. When I plug the phone in during the Vibrant screen, it shows up as COM 6 but then it is removed when it gets to Download mode.
I searched around for a while looking for a solution and tried a bunch of things but nothing worked.
Also, when I plug my phone in during download mode, it says "The USB device attached to the computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."
I'm on Windows XP 32-bit
PC Not Recognizing Vibrant in Download Mode
My stock, rooted Vibrant was soft-bricked by the latest update. I've been following the instructions on this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803492, but cannot get Odin to recognize the device in Download Mode.
One caveat of my current situation is that I'm running Windows XP (32bit) on VMWare on a Mac. Not sure if this is the cause of my pain, but I simply don't have a PC handy.
Currently, when the phone is connected via USB in Recovery Mode, it mounts and everything is cheery. Even on the Mac side, adb recognizes the device and lets me tunnel into it. But the instant I boot into Download Mode the computer no longer recognizes it.
I've reinstalled drivers, tried using 64-bit versions of drivers, tried Kies, but Odin simply does not see the device in Download Mode.
Has anyone experienced this and resolved the issue? Should I hunt down a PC and ditch VMware? That's pretty much my final option prior to heading down to T-Mobile.

It's the Mac....sounds like you've done everything correctly. do you have the option for Parallels?
Download mode uses a different usb driver. If you are running in a vm you need to set the vm app to pass that usb device thru to the guest os.. i use odin in virtualbox on linux just fine. I haven't tried it on osx though. There's also an app in development in the i9000 dev forum that runs natively on osx.
@shinybuddha unfortunately parallels is not an option, but I could likely hunt down a PC
@ttabbal thanks for the tip, I've been suspicious of the drivers. Currently I have version 5.2.0.5 installed, and when connecting the Vibrant in download mode, a "Generic Serial Device" appears, but fails to connect.
Unfortunately the device exhibits the same behavior on the Mac side, and isn't being recognized in Download Mode, at least not by "adb devices".
Is there a specific driver I should install in the virtual XP os? Or could you provide a link to the osx app?
I think I need to find a PC. After scouring the forums it appears there has been no successful Odin use on a Mac via VM.

Also discovered this interesting bit from the Heimdall developer:
After some serious investigation and a bit low-level debugging it appears as though there is very little I can do to correct the GT-I9000's lack of USB specification compliance when in download mode. When in download mode the GT-I9000 is using an embedded Gadget Serial driver and not the one provided by the linux kernel (zImage). As such I have made Samsung aware of the issue although I don't know if they will resolve it or how long it will take.

My Vibrant is back! Done in 30 minutes, after spending 3 days trying to get it to work via VM on a Mac. Sometimes iCan't.
Just to help out anyone else with a similar problem using Windows directly... I also found that Odin would recognize my phone when on normally but not in download mode. To solve, what I did was put the phone in download mode, then open up device manager and there was a new unknown device... gave it the path to the downloaded drivers and let it install. Then another unknown device popped up (might have to close and reopen device manager, or refresh, or unplug and plug phone). Pointed it to drivers download again and it magically appeared in Odin.

What drivers did you "point" too. Im having the same issue as you, except in my device manager is says "Gadget Serial." Either way, I need my PC to recognize my phone in download mode so please help!
I had the same proble. It showed Gadget serial in device manager. I uninstalled all other samsung and keis related drivers and installed 5.2.0.4 and it worked out fine. You can download them from here. Good luck.

Ive been trying to root my phone using cf root but when i put my phone into download mode and connect it to the pc odin doesnt recognise it. However, when i reboot my galaxy s one of the bars at the top of odin turns yellow and in the message box it says "Added!!". Ive tried this on 2 different pc's and its still not working.
When i first connected the usb cable to the pc, a message came up saying if i wanted to install the software from a cd, but i dont have one so i couldnt. Then it said that the software couldnt be installed properly. How do i install it properly?

Download the drivers from my signature & install them, make sure you haven't connected the phone while doing so. Restart windows, connect the phone. Windows will install the required drivers, & you are ready to go.
Do i install from setup.exe. Its asking for a password.
Ive extracted it all but i cannot set up.
My windows is 32bit. Can someone please tell me where i can the samsung usb 32 bit drivers please?
Ive managed to get the 32 bit drivers and it says that samsung usb modem and the samsung usb android composite device are ready to use. However, it says that no driver was found for the ethernet controller.

connect to what?
if you are trying to connect with Odin but you have Kies installed on your PC, there is a known issue where running services from Kies will prevent Odin from recognizing your phone. In that case: use task manager to identify and kill the Kies processes, stop/start Odin again and then connect your phone to the USB cable and Odin will see it.
more details
which rom have you been using last?
all drivers installed?
Kies running or not?
more details and we'll see
I just got my S4 and I wanted to connect to Kies via a usb cable at work, no wifi available. So I installed KIES and connected it and I am getting the dreaded " Reconnect device in Samsung Kies (PC Mode)" and it tells me to disable usb debugging. I have verififed that PC debugging is off and reinstalled Kies but still I get the same message. My usb mode is MTP... Any suggestions? I have tried different usb ports as well with no luck. Is anyone using Kies?

when your phone is connected to your pc in devicemanager you must see: samsung android ADB interface(screenshot attached)

Thanks, the device currently comes up as a SAMSUNG SGH l537 I tried running the mini kies setup and the driver installation which oddly failed. Would you be able to give me the exact driver that yours is using. I cracked open that installer and the drivers are all there I should be able to force it to the right one.

only the first day i bought my gti 9505 lte i updated my device via kies. after i rooted my s4, i never use kies.
After connecting my device the first time to my laptop, kies recognized my phone automaticly.
If there is an update for Kies, the program should recognize your device and install the right drivers.
Kies is only installed on my laptop for sync my wife's galaxy note 2. Her phone runs stock 4.1.2.
So normally must kies install the right drivers.Even for your device.
Regards

I think having a 64bit OS in win7 might be part of the issue as well. I probably don't need kies at all but I thought it would be nice to add contacts via outlook. My contacts are all sorts of hosed up, I exported them to a csv from my atrix and imported them into outlook. The next step was to import them with Kies which I thought would be a no brainer. oh well, hopefully the kies wifi will work when i get home.

All drivers where installed correctly ??? yesterday i got the same error and used w7 update to find the missing driver. Works fine now.
Still no luck, unfortunatly at work windows update is blocked so that is not an option here as far as the driver update.
Hello, I have SM G930V encountered such a problem. I want to update to 7.0 but when I transfer the phone to the bootloader and connect usb in the task manager on the drivers it weighs the exclamation mark! I tried different drivers but without successful in Odin does not show com port! What do I need help?
Ok, going to take a crack at this. If you have the drivers installed, when your phone is plugged into the pc, delete the exclamation mark, unplug your phone and plug it back in.
Should install the drivers.
Tapatalk for Android - Works awesome on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Thanks, but I have already tried this option but without results!

Might not help, but I downloaded smart switch and it automatically installs the drivers and there's an option too reinstall drivers, and Odin and ADB all work.

It sounds like he plugged his phone in to the computer prior to installing the drivers, so it's now installed as an unknown device.
Windows won't search for updated drivers until the unknown device is either deleted, or he goes in and manually updates the drivers from the device manager.
Deleting it and letting windows install is by far the easiest way to accomplish this.
I know my replies can be long, but would rather give too much info, than not enough.
