I have no idea what happened.
I'm using Cyanogen last update and the phone is so slow it is useless.
Specially when closing an app and going back to the home screen... it takes forever for the phone to be available and ready.
What is the problem ? Any hint?

Im guessing you have alot of apps open in the background then, you should consider getting a task killer app from market.
Not really...
A wipe fixes everything.
Thank you guys.
The phone is slow 5 seconds after a reboot.
Home screen takes forever to appear and some time forces close.
I might try another room, I don't know.
Everything you need is right here:

I had the same issue. Here is what i did to fix it
Did a Nandroid backup, wipe ,flash with the 1.6 base rom first, then the latest CyanogenMod rom.
Thanks
Will try your suggestions and post the results
Mine was slowing to a crawl as well, turns out (I think) it didn't run as well with compcache enabled. Since disabling it again it is running much better.

My hint would be ditch Cyan(buggy arse rom)mod and switch to something better and more reliable like either rom in my signiture.

Erm I do believe I did! *spits into spittoon and listens for the 'ting' noise*
I'll even go as far to say any dev putting the word stable in the title of a rom (at his own admission when it is anything but and needs to be tested) yet still continues trying to fool himself by still saying its stable deserves to have it labelled buggy crap

Oh I know that fella, I'm using Super D at the moment which is a mix of cyan and dwang and whilst they use the base they also inherite the annoying little bugs too
He has done one hell of a lot for the community, still doesn't detract from the facts though.

I used cyan for a week then went back to hero. Now im back on hero(espresso).
On the concept of "stable" I think people have preconceived definitions without merit. Take for example the definition of a "stable stochastic process", which though it is nicer to deal with than many Levy processes, is still a pure jump process. If one can accept the idea of a pure jump stochastic process as being "stable" then it is no problem to see any Cyanogen ROM as stable.
As a side note, I have not had any issues with CM that could not be easily resolved. I love his ROMS, but have a lot of respect for the extremely stable work put out by Enom (I only used his ROM for awhile, but switched to CM for the ease in theming).
This has happened to me before with Cyanogen but I found it was more to do with the SD Card. It would happen anytime I removed the USB cable without "Ejecting" the phone first, amongst other things.
The solution was to format the SD Card and reflash but the downside is you lose everything including apps.
For the folks that have gotten a taste of Froyo, will you keep it?
Closing this poll in 21 days, I imagine the "officially official" Froyo release will have some variances.
Yes.
[at least 10 characters]
I don't see any poll? My vote would be yes. I went from rooted N1 with stock rom and recovery to amon_ra's recovery and Froyo and haven't found a single bug yet. It's very stable for me and even watched a Youtube flash video which worked flawlessly (keep in mind I only watched one video so far)
.. when it's CM-froyo, yes.. till then 507.
Of course. It works flawlessly on my device and the speed increase is money. Just waiting for the mods now. And for the app devs to send their updates.

Darn it! Wish I thought of that option before putting up the poll! I've been thinking of reverting to CM507 and waiting on CM6... But I don't see any options to edit the poll.
im waiting for cyanogen...played with froyo for 5 mins, than did a restore back
I'm keeping it because I love the new features, It's like they listened to me directly because everything I wanted they've updated specifically. I do miss my features with Enoms ROM but I can live without until he releases an update [still waiting on AOSP as far as I know]

Give it a chance rofl. 5 minutes is not enough to discover all the new tweaks/features that Google gave us
Keeping it. There are so many new features and just little visual tweaks that make it so awesome. Like when you mount your phone via USB there's a little android guy. Or if you use more than one language when typing you can just swipe the spacebar to easily switch.
The only cons I've encountered were Handcent fc'ing every time I send a msg and the HTC mod kb not working. However those two things are huge for me.
Overall the speed, visual enhancements and epicness of Froyo is enough for me to roll w the punches until 2.2 source is released and the devs fix up something awesome!

Anyone have issues when powering up the phone? It seems to take forever until it is stable and will actually respond normally. Unrooted Froyo.
Don't know why people would prefer anything older than FroYo.
It's faster, it's reliable, it has cool features and is better looking =)
Definitely a keeper, very happy with it. Now where is my Gingerbread?!

Because its missing all the little tweaks from CM that makes day-to-day on the phone so much more useful. (even little things like remove debug message, trackball track skip, color pulsing, etc)
I think I'm still going to keep it but waiting impatiently for a CM froyo variant for sure.
Keeping it. The 2 issues I had, have been fixed by app updates for dolphin HD and handsent. And I think there's a fix out for HTC ime that I have to find.
I'm keeping it for now, but once enom and CM start building new ROMs with a Froyo base, then I'll probably move onto those
I got froyo, then went back to cyan5.0.6 due to the fact that apps are not updated yet. But I went back to froyo last night willing to be patient. I cant wait for cyan froyo 6.0 Being stock sucks and to me the reg functions of the phone are slow compared to 5.0.6.
You know how many times I hit my trackball to wake my phone up and unlock and im like "****" lol....
cyan ROMs are the shiznit!!!
Tried Froyo, went back to 2.1
It's not so much I had anything against Froyo... everything worked great with Froyo itself... but none of the widgets I use worked with Froyo, so I reverted.
where's the option to keep a nandroid of both froyo & CM and switch back & forth as needed?
I'm keeping it for now; I REALLY miss some of my apps though.
Since none of them are updated for Apps2SD yet my phone memory's almost full & started rejecting text messages.
Couple that with I have over 100 apps that I can't even find on the market again and yeah.. I'm waiting for CM =(
Love the flash player and hulu on the go though; so for now, it stays...

u can backup ur phone as much as u want. As long as u have the space to do it on ur SD card. I have about 3 nandroid backups. 2 cyan5.0.6 and 1 froyo. Just go into recovery and select which one u want.
I have to sell 3 of my G1 androids. I want to flash nice looking, feature filled ROM’s to them. But, NO (few) COMPROMISES, everything should work as least as well as as doughnut. Minimal bugs, reasonably fast very GOOD battery life, WIFI, BT, responsiveness, stable GAPP’s etc,. Xtras. Tethering, good looks, multitasking etc would be nice.
It should be idiot proof. I don’t want anybody coming back ro me wining after sold.
Please, all suggestions welcome, VOTE.
Regards, PK
BTW: I Personally try anything on my own phones, all sorts of test runs, betas, RC’s, etc with bugs galore, but I would not want to sell them that way.

this is another eclair rom. it's also stable and fast.

ok now to the topic:
i suggest you the Chromatic 3.9.1.1. i use it for 2 - 3 months and im very satisfied.
everything works. Multitasking, Tethering, Fast(and stays fast), nice looking (black/red look)
and so on, well there are no compromises as far as i know, cuz everything works. it´s Éclair, stable Gapps.
well, everything you mentioned.
but you have to set the colour of the clock, date, notifications by yourself in spare parts.
activate compcache and set the cpu to 614 - 412(or something similiar) and ondemand, then you´re good to go.
there are newer builds from chromatc, 4.+ but they´re froyo, and i personally don't like them, they´re feelin sluggy..

Why would he pay us...
You could put a hero rom(preferably ZX) on one and the other two could have eclair(preferably SuperE).
You should have either put this in general disscusion or Q&A. Next time bud, k?
@Aboves the only reason why I wouldn't suggest froyo yet is because it's still in RC.
to add on to installing the 3.9.1.1. chromatic, i'd recommend these settings:
install pershoot's latest kernel http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=958
install setcpu, set profiles. more details can be found in chromersmith's thread.
install latest adw launcher. http://jbthemes.com/anderweb/
if you have a class 6 sd card included in the phones, enable 32mb of swap with 40 swappiness. if not, enable compcache.
check lock home app in memory, disable extra settings [gps, 3g, etc] for an increase of battery life.
make sure you do a full wipe/partition sd card using the latest version of recovery. [or do "fastboot erase system -w" too just to be safe]
Thanks All!
Looks like the éclairs win and I have some digging around for the right one(s). Probably chromatic xx.x but if I have time it will be fun flashing some of the others.
Thanks Again, PK
Sorry I posted here instead of general,
hey come and try out our roms.. my latest rom is posted androidmobsquad 0.3.2 with gapps come download it and try it out.
developer.htc.com/adp.html
That would be an appropriate, stable, OEM ROM for those devices.
Dudes Cupcake. http://code.google.com/p/thedudescupcake/
I considered a cupcake, certainly would be bulletproof I think. and not freak anybody. I Liked these phones when I got them because the interface seemed so simple and slippery. Might give it a try.
I wonder if they will work with Danger spl (and Amon and the latest radio)

Just put Enom's offical on the G1, its faster than any 2.1,2.1,1.6 rom out there....Plus it doesnt req OC over 384 to be fast....While the phone has to be at like 5XX+ just to run a froyo/eclair rom...I can run TheOffical fine at 128/384.
you could also put a froyo ROM in there, anyway you don't have to be a rocket scientist to wipe all the data an flash a new ROM... especially if the phone is already rooted and has the amon ra recovery...
The software support is what keeps this old phone alive.
Thanks, I’m using CM froyo 6 RC0 and RC3 myself. I like RC0 is pretty stable but a little hard on batteries, RC3 is hell on batteries, kinda buggy and a little tricky to get gapps to work. I think froyo is just to un-vetted.
I agree it's not rocket science to wipe and flash but it may be for joe-ebay and I really want to say goodbye forever to these things rather than walk someone through re-flash or getting gripes about battery life.
Regards, PK

Well the most important thing to know: a new build gets released every Friday form the Chinese team, then a English team ports it to EVO usually over the weekend for a weekend release. So every week there's a new build.
Latest _English_Port_ is 1.14 ... but 1.21 just got released today (revs are by date) BUT the Chinese team found a bug and is supposed to be releasing a patch tomorrow. The MIUI team responsible for porting the weekly builds apparently already ported the 1.21 but isn't posting it as a official build yet as they are waiting to see what the original dev team is releasing as a patch first.
I would say the current 1.14 is easily the most stable build, the new 1.21 coming out has some UI changes, so it could actually introduce bugs, but only time will tell. Honestly though MIUI has come a long long way.
I really like MIUI rom but not having multitouch on the gingerbread keyboard kills it for me. Hopefully they can get it working soon.

This 1.7 seemed to run the best for me with the included kernel 1.14 had a lot of reboots. I loved the UI and the built in extras like the traffic monitor and the blacklist options but found it too unstable for me. I went to evervolv 2.3a15 and love it so far. Gps doesnt track as well as miui but its an apples oranges comparison. Basically if you can get a stable daily driver miui going on your evo then enjoy olit. The thread in the general section has a lot of believers for sure.
so far 1.14 has been the most stable for me, but myself and many others have been experiencing a problem where whoever we are talking to hears an echo of their voice. The devs are gonna try to work that out for the next build which should be awesome. I'd wait till the final of 1.21 is released.

Okay, so after looking over MIUI and the themes and lockscreen mods I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY RREEAALLLLYY WANT IT!!!!!
But...there's just one problem...
After looking over the directions, and the HBOOT S-OFF thing, nothing seems certain. So many different sites and threads say that some this way doesn't work, this way breaks your 4G, and I can not for the life of my find out how to simply just get MIUI on my flipping Evo! To be honest, from everything I've looked up so far it looks like a ****ing death trap. No joke.
And whats up with partial English? From what I've seen things look like they're in English. How much is still in Chinese?
Is there anyone out there that can show me (or tell me) a very direct way and not an "iffy" way of flashing MIUI. I have Clockwork and I don't know how to check to see if I have S-OFF. I got my Evo 4G the day it came out, so does that mean the way I rooted it back then turned S-OFF for me?
I thought S-OFF was only for people who got the new OTAs and couldn't root their Evos.
I'm sorry but MIUI ust confused the HELL out of me and I'm so willing to take a leap of faith because I want it so bad, but bricking or messing up my Evo ust isnt worth it. Help anyone?
My whole ROM is in english. I'm using the current stable release and it's the best ROM I've used after UD.
The one thing I noticed is that my 3G speeds seem to be slower. I'm on wifi a lot so it isn't too big if a deal but still annoying.

Well, if you have flashed a custom recovery(Clockwork), then I think you must have s-off. The easiest way to check your s-off status is to turn your phone off, then reboot by holding down power+volume-down. The phone will boot into the h-boot screen. At the top will be several pieces of info including your s-off or s-on status. Make sure you do not have any custom roms or other .zip files in the main directory on your sd card before you do this as the hboot will try to flash it when it detects it.
The very first post in the general forum has a lot of really good info as well. Another excellent helpful resource is the IRC channel for the Evo. The link is in the post.
S-off just means security off, by the way. You can't flash custom roms or other stuff until you have s-off.

yes they just flash like a normal rom. But since they do release an update almost weekly, it would be hard to do a complete wipe everytime and titatium back up everything. so miui already has a Miui Backup program in it that will make changing to the next release go smoothly without much of a hassle.
I flashed the MIUI ROM last night and my phone rebooted on its own like a handful of times when I was sleeping. I kept hearing the vibrate sound and seeing the white "HTC EVO 4G" screen like when you first turn on the phone. NOT happy!!

So here I sit, on the fence, with my rooted stock Epic.
Nothing has really substantiated the rumors of Froyo for the 21st, and that just makes me think it's not coming (and if SamsungJohn was going to finally say something substantial, a yea or nay would be a nice start).
But this is not a thread about the OTA.
I'm just thinking... if OTA is really imminent, then I'll just wait and let the devs work on it. But if it's not... then it's time to look at one of the available ROMs.
ViperRom 4.0.4 looks damn sweet... love the ViperWheel widget... but it was held up from its Monday release (are they waiting for source code drop too?). And there is Midnight and Nebula which I kinda like also.
I guess I could start the process of checking them out.
Or I could just sit here and wait. I'm going out of town this weekend and probably should leave things alone until I get back home.
Until then I ask anyone who is running those ROMs... would I lose Swype if I switch ROMs? I really like Swype...
I am stock/rooted, pretty much in the same situation. Will wait until the end of the month if no stock Froyo materializes will look into roms and modding a bit. I depend on my phone's functions all working for my business and would rather not take a chance that I will lose functionality by flashing to the Froyo leak.
i was waiting like you guys til the other week and i went to bonsai, and everything is working superbly.
I was getting sick of stock rom and 2.1, not being able to have hulu or flash as well as a few apps that are must have like Humans vs aliens as well as Andy-83.
Im now just waiting for the official source so it can be improved, but ive had no issues on bonsai and reccomend it, if you want something fast and clean..
give the latest midnight a shot it works really good just wipe 3x before loading and be happy. swype works for me just have to switch text imput method from gb to swype.
Soooo. Oh., before that... I am so glad I rooted and mod. I ran midnight ... and cut my teeth on the ext4 .... the cwm .... and after root and rom messed around with themes. After my ver of midnight got a few weeks old I switched to bonzai and I love it too... it just works. Wait a few ... but its worth it.
Btw ... will we have to wait a while for the new stock 2.2 to get rooted or... is once root always root? Curious.

ROM's
I spent last weekend loading up all of the different (read more popular) ROM's and the most stable and straight forward one to me was Nebula Seven Sisters. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863154
The developer made it a point of keeping a lot of the stock look and features while improving on what Froyo brought to the table. I did not have any real functional issues with Viper, Midnight or TrulyEpic, it just seemed that Nebula was trying to keep the experience closer to stock than the others.
Other people will say they like the modified skins, the launcher pro, the Viper wheel, etc. For them, that is the case. That is the great thing about the developers of the ROM's, they are doing this to cater to different crowds.
So really, there is no need to wait for Sprint or Samsung here, download Odin, grab some ROM's and have fun with your phone! All I can say is to make Clockwork backups often, it makes the process of going back to the ROM you liked two days ago so much easier!

could try the Syndicate Rom, for 2.1.... see how fast the 2.2.1 roms WILL be after source... but other than that, they are all stable from what I read, some people have a few issues, depends a lot on you though. If you have a ton of stuff to reinstall after a clean wipe, might as well wait out the weekend, not for an OTA, slim chance there... but just so you have time.... sometimes things take longer, you may go thru 5 roms before you find the one you like... etc.

I'm just thinking... if OTA is really imminent, then I'll just wait and let the devs work on it. But if it's not... then it's time to look at one of the available ROMs.

DK28 is buggy but it is better than 2.1 by far. You really don't lose anything by going with one of the available ROMs right now. Presumably they will all have an update once the new version is sent out from Sprint (whether it be on the 21st or not). If you're running a custom 2.2 ROM, you'll just do a CWM backup, update to the newer version of whichever ROM you like, and then restore your data.
I went back and forth between Quantum and Bonsai ROM today. It takes no more than 10 minutes to fully swap ROMs. Just do it, you'll be glad you did. And if a new version of 2.2 comes out in the next 5 days, it will only take a few minutes (max) of your time to upgrade to it.

Don't update.
There's too many bugs in dk28 which will make yu scramble for di18, but when you go back you will miss the little upgrades that did work so it'll be this constant struggle within.
Until official 2.2.1 ofcourse

Is 7sisters smoother than bonsai?Im asking because I want minimal rom so I can add my own things to it.
Well, I've just flashed DK28 and CWM just finished converting to EXT4. It's party time.
Viper brings some great stuff to the table.
Nebula is stability first, which is important to me since my business and my phone are virtually inseparable.
I also like Midnight's BYOR modular format, keeping bloat to a minimum.
I'll have a fun time with this.

More fun than I realized. After the conversion I got stuck at the www.samsungmmobile.com screen. Here we Odin again!

No need to odin, odin only if nothing else works!
In ur case pull out bettery, put it back in,hold power+vol down+camera to get back into cmw3 and try again.
This will save you some time.
Everyone should be warned of one MAJOR issue. If you use you phone for primary internet access anywhere you go; whether at home or at work or wherever. The tethering drops you no matter what you use at random. It is very frustrating and annoying. If it wasn't for this I'd be 100% satisfied with nebula already; but it isn't the rom's problem, it's with DK28. Some people use wireless tethering but I cannot with 2 different desktops I use my phone for internet connectivity.

Make sure you watch some of Randy Shear's videos on youtube if you're new at this. He very slowly goes through many of the basic steps in putting a new rom on your phone. If you skip a step you cause yourself triple work. Just take your time and watch a few of his video's and just put the rom on your want. His Viper Apoc 4.0.2 video is excellent.
