Galaxy S I9000 screen problem - Galaxy S I9000 General

Suddenly the screen of my "samsung galaxy's" seens to lost resolution, looks blurred and weak colors.
It looks like when changing the resolution of a monitor to display fewer colors.
Please can any good soul help me?

completing information
I also noticed that the button used to end the call, it seems
orange and not red as it should.
I restored the settings but not solved the problem. I'll try to flash the rom again to see if it works, but seems to be a hardware problem that appeared out of nowhere

That do not sound so good. Looks like a hardware failure to me. Do you have the screen on full brightness all the time? Perhaps you could try changing display density in build.prop and reboot. How long do you have your sgs?

Galaxy S screen problem fault
I am having the same problem. Vodafone Australia stock.
The screen has lost its clarity.
Actually, it appears as though every 2nd horizontal line has been lost - this is quite evident when you scroll through a list that has dividing lines (Eg. Scroll through settings - the separator lines alternate visibly as you scroll).
I've had the i9000 for just under 4 weeks and this fault occurred without any reason (not dropped, no water damage, not exposed to heat, etc). The phone was fine one minute and then the next, it became blurry.
The colours all look flat, the background is no longer crisp black, it is light black/grey as if the LCD that had its brightness settings turned up too high.
Also, tried upgrading Android to 2.2 (from 2.1) and that didn't help. This fault appears to be a hardware fault - you can see the loss of resolution when the Galaxy S logo appears when you first turn the phone on (before Android boots). Look at any curved text/lines and you will see that it appears with jagged lines.
Don't waste your time doing the factory reset, upgrades, etc... It is a hardware fault. I spent a bit of time running the screen through the LCD tests " *#*#0*#*#* " and downloading DPI checkers, etc.. The LCD test shows the solid Red, Green and Blue are ok, as was the dimming test.
The image looks grainy as if it was displayed in the wrong or low resolution. It looks like an old school CRT screen at VGA resolution - almost pixelated.
I have installed the Aries bootloader and the small font text displayed also looks grainy and very hard to read.
Have a look at the two images I've attached.
Real shame, I was starting to get attached to this phone.

First step would be to backup and do a factory reset for any major problem .

I already tried that and it did not help.

Don't waste your time. If you got warranty, you are going to get a new Screen or perhaps a new phone. Go for it.

Did you changed kernel? which kernel are you on?
I had a similar experience (not so bad) when trying some kernel with sharpness and color fixes.
You could try flashing hardcore's speedmod k13c Kernel, it also has some sharpness and color fixes but his work very good.

i don't have thi problem

I have the same problem, just purchased a i9000 four days ago, and it fail after 30 minutes of use .
It si very strange, because if i zoom a image, it will also enlarge the banding gradients (like if the image was low quality)
THe problem only appears wirh dark colors, strong colores dont have any problems.

this sounds like a display problem

Have I changed the colour resolution by mistake?

I did a search so I hope this hasn't been asked a million times before. I have noticed that I may have lost some resolution on my XDA Mini S
I synchronised over a photo – that I had taken with a camera, I had it as my ‘screen saver’ on the today page – looked good. Really clear just as you would expect
I noticed a day later that the screen saver looked a bit rubbishy – then I checked my photos on the phone and they all look like they have lost resolution – there is a distinct lack of colour and clarity. Almost like an Andy Warhol painting.
Taking a photo also produces the same sub standard quality - so I'm hoping that I may have done something by mistake that is easy to fix.
I have had the phone for 3 days and apart from the photo have also uploaded Wisbar onto it - apart from that I haven't done anything
As a side note Bubble Breaker seems to have a lack of colour as well – although admittedly this could be my imagination.
Any help greatly appreciated!
You cant change color resolution on your screen its 64K and fixed. What screensaver are you using? It may have a bearing on your problem but it does sound like a graphics hardware fault. Do a hard reset just to be sure of this though as this will rule out any software conflicts. How to do the hard reset is in the manual.
Thanks Mark
I think you are dead on - I did a hard reset and it still looked rubbish
Also to back up what you said :
If i look through the camera/video capture anything with red in it is all fuzzy and hazy, whereas everything else is 'perfect', and
Importing the photo back onto my laptop the photo looks OK so it's def what the xda is displaying and it seems an issue with the colour red.
Many thanks for your help - doh i hate getting a new toy and returning it straight away!!

Display problem / Weird color stripes

Hello all,
I've got the SGS II for about 1 week now and at first I thought it was a software issue. The thing is, when I'm on a very light colored background ( Market, facebook, whatsapp or whatever ) You see smudged out stripes from the text or any picture that is on there. They're all faded stripes. I thought it was banding but this is something totally different.
What's even more weird- it only happens when I'm outside the house, so my guess is that the brightness sensor plays a part in this? When I'm inside the effect is minimal to none but when I go out or to a very bright place, the stripes are extremely annoying. ( will take pictures for reference when I get the chance )
Would you say this is a manufacturing fault?
Please help if you've encountered something similiar.
Thanks!
Here are some images, the stripes are not that evident right now. They seem to get worse when I'm in the sun.
Looks like some polarising effect.
Should I return to the shop to get this swapped? It seems to me that the screen is defect???
Return!! It seems alot of people are having screen problems.
Same issue on my SGS2.
Was perfect during one week then theses anoying stripes!!!
Did you perform a 1:1 exchange?
There were similar problems on the Sensation forum and it was found to be app/widget conflicts.
If you turn off auto-brightness and also the power saving lcd brightness mode under display in settings does it still happen? You mentioned it happens when you go outside so was curious if you adjusted brightness manually if it still happens
Sooooo....
Yesterday evening I changed form litening 1.5 to the stock rom on KF1 with full wipe.
After that stripes where still there.
Went to bed.
Woke up this morning: Big surprise stripes were almost invisible!!!
Battery 40%
BUT
today I used the GPS google navigation during 1h and discovered that theses stripes appeared again and they are very strong.
- No link with app/widget, nothing installed .
- Didn't touch on settings display auto-brightness before the problem. Tried after but nope.
I tried this today
(all credits to Cost from french forum tmaddict)
Flashlight to use white light during half an hour.
Stripes almoust disapeared...
Then picture with high contrast and color.
Stripes came back.
Conclusion :
With SGS2 you can encounter a display refresh problem.
Not solved btw => screen defect => exchanging it today.
Thierry.

screen burn in ?

hi. i am using 2 phones the nexus s and the gs2 .
and i noticed something on my gs2 and i need to ask you people about it.
the phone isnt like 3 weeks old. its brand new. however i noticed a temp screen burn in on the following places.
when i use the keyboard for txt msging. if i pull the keyboard down " by pressing back ", i can see the squares of the keyboard on the screen for like few seconds before they dissapear.
i also noticed the same thing in the status bar, battery meter. specially in the browser or an hd wallpaper app called " HD wallpaper "
when i downloaded that app. i turned the wireless and went through the app. now its trying to load . if i switch the screen to the side. the status bar will tilt as well. vertical horizintal depends on the way you move the screen. and i clearly can see the marks of the status bar for few seconds before it dissapear again on whatever verticial or horizintal/
what is the issue here ? i cant call it burn in because its not permenant.
i noticed the same thing with Miui on the nexus S. but only on the status bar. nothing on the keyboard.
any idea peeps
is it some sort of memory effect or bad refrish rate ?
Someone else had this. I think it was related to apps or widgets they installed. It's not normal. Do a search and see if you can find the other thread. Try searching on "ghosting."
i was searching through ghosting. is this normal with everyone here ? or some people dont have it ?
i think you should be carefull with your phone, if you leave it to much on the same background it will burn in easelly, oled burn in as easelly as plasmas when it comes to leaving them on the same image over and over again, try see if you can change yours, i certainly have no such issues with none of the 2 i had nor with this one.
PS: depends on what you mean with ghosting, if you mean the pixel response time beying visible when moving an image fast then yes thats normal, even though oled have 0.01 ms response time this one is deffinitly higher as i can notice it easelly.
i have a screen burn in on my Nexus One, annoying at times when i do notice it.
Yes, I have this. Had a thread, temporarly burn in. I can see it when I type a message.
Just when the keyboard is visible and I pull down the notification bar, I can see the contoures of the keyboard letter there... Probably happens with other things but aren't that noticable on other colours than grey I guess...
i can also see some weird banding or whatever on a pure gray image, not sure how normal this is but ive noticed it with all of my 3 phones.
ghost image disappears for me within 2 seconds (very hard to see unless if you look at the screen hard), definitely not a problem, and wont be killing myself for this or even consider it a hardware issue.
i also facing a same problem as u guys, now waiting for service centre to replace my lcd.
This ghosting issue seems to happen with all phones, very visible when your using the keyboard and you drop down the notification tray, then it goes away after a couple of seconds.
Two issues here. First off, search the forum for burn in, its already been posted.
Two issues, the temporary burn in is new to the galaxy s2 and seems to go away after a few seconds. But all Samsung amoled screens suffer permanent burn in of the status bar, click time, and anything else in a static place.
My nexus one has permanent burn in right now, both status bar and keyboard. Original galaxy s and others has this also.
The temporary burn in seems to be different and only on this new amoled plus display so far.

i did search the forum before i post. however. as far as i know . burn in screens are permenant. and the other threads talked about that. here i am talking about something that goes off after few seconds. something like either ghosting / or something about low memory / low resposne / low refresh rate of the screen. not a real butn in.
I've recently bought a Galaxy S2 from someone and didn't see the burn in until a few days ago.
Now I can't reach the guy to get my money back... the phone seems in perfect shape except for the burn in (status bar and some digital clock widget).
I've been trying every day now to run this app called Screen Burn-in Tools for an hour or so but nothing happens.
You can find the app on the Google Play.
Should I continue using this tool or this burn-in is permanent and there's nothing I can do about it?
I can't believe such a high end phone has such a poor life display... how can this be possible!?!? They should've stayed with the regular LCD or something.
It's too bad because I'm a fan of the OLED idea and technology, but unfortunately samsung owns too many patents for this technology to spread to other manufacturers as well. This is what happens when the damn corporations get their greedy hands on something great that can benefit the mankind!

Greenish screen tint

Hello everyone,
First of all I don't post this issue in the yellowish side thread, because this isn't what happens to me. Mi tint applies to the whole screen and it's more a green kind of tint.
I've got a SGS2 since the day it was released in Spain (20ish of May), but until yesterday I didn't know anyone else who had it. A friend of mine bought it recently from Vodafone, and yesterday we compared screens (I was showing him roms and introducing him to Android etc.).
Point is, both on Cognition KH3, his S2 showed a real grey-blueish colour, whilst mine has this greenish aspect. I couldn't make a photograph in that moment, but I simply did a screencapture of the notification tray, and opened it from my pc displayed on a correctly calibrated monitor.
This is the result:
h**p://img689.imageshack.us/img689/4429/img2776wp.jpg
(Can't post pics, sorry about that, new user)
I've tried full wipe (memory cards included), stock roms, cognition, leomar, lightning, speedmod, ninphetamine; been tryin' supercurio's Screentune app (which partly solves this phone's banding problem) and nothing.
The phone is set on autobrightness, Standard effect, no LED energysave or whatsoever.
Question is, should I take it to the tech service? Is this the usual SAmoled screen? Am I just a neurotic a**hole?
No big deal I think, I have simillar greenish tint, doesnt bother me that much, I believe it's not that much visible. Yes your's is little bit deeper, I also have phone released as one of the first in UK, maybe a problem of first batch? Question: what are the 2 arrows pointing up and down on your picture in the info pull down menu? Next to wifi icon and bluetooth? Is it something added from your operator? What it does? I don't have it on my SGS. Thx.

It's relieving to know I'm not the only one, and that maybe this is a general issue on the first units of this phone. Maybe could be solved with software?
ps: The arrows are simply a Data Connection toggle added in the some custom ROMs . In this case as I said it's Cognition's latest ROM.

blue dot when screen is off

Recently I just noticed that there is a small blue shining dot (pixel) on my screen when I turn GN off and it stays there for near 20 sec !
you can not see it even with the smalest light in the room but it is there in darkness !!!
it is in the right side of the screen a little lower than middle ....
any one else notice that ?
is it normal ?
how can I check what it is ?
...
Had this on my GS2, the screen was replaced under waranty.
you have a stuck blue sub-pixel! this should be visible in every picture you display, but it's most noticeable when displaying a black picture (and switching the device off takes about 10-20sec - and the display is still active, but displaying nothing)!
you can test your screen with a test-tool opened with the dialer: enter *#0*#
such a defect is really hard to notice in real life conditions, due to the small subpixel size. also, samsung has no obligation to change your screen because of one dead subpixel, but you can try!
more common is a dead sub-pixel (the subpixel stays always dark), and it's also less annoying. if i would be you i would try to exchange!
Thanks for info
I just test it with *#0*# and there is no blue pixel in the green or red or white or black screens ...
So I just try to ignore it for now or may be change the screen if it gets annoying
Same here. I think is a ICS bug. If i flash a GB rom there is no blue dot. It only appear during 30 o 40 secs when you switch off the screen.

which rom you have ?
I'm on Rocket Rom v2 .
i´m on kingdroid 2.1 but have tried several and the problem is always there except with GB roms.
Try detect pixel and fix from the play store. It helped me fix a stuck pixel on one if my older phones.
I also have the blue pixel when the screen turns off after the ICS update. It doesn't show on a black image either only when the screen turns off. Detect pixel and fix hasn't worked.
BPS ( blue pixel symptom ) seems like an ICS problem or ICS on some devices problem or ...
I tried every solution you can think of but when screen goes off its there for about 20-30 sec and then it goes away.
I tried deferent rom and kernels ....
I think many others has this problem but didn't noticed yet.
For all people experiencing this issue, i would like to tell you that when i got the galaxy note initially, i too had this problem! This problem has nothing to do with software so using Gingerbread or ICS dosent matter. I had taken my galaxy note with this problem to Original Samsung Center. They took my phone to "check it in a dark area" because in daylight it wasnt visible. Then they confirmed to me that it was a screen damage and replaced my damaged screen with a new one free of charge since it was under warranty. So if ur suffering from this same problem please go to your nearest Samsung Service Center OR Outlet where you purchased the phone from and get a screen replacement or phone replacement.
Cheers!
Strange thing is my wife's note has a red pixel. I swear it wasn't there in the start. It goes off 30 secs after screen is off.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Seem to remember having the same issue, had to be very dark though. Occurred with ICS and GB. I think its a hardware issue. I don't know what the policy is with Samsung and smart phone screens with duff pixels, might be worth checking as with computer screens there are tollerances and 'some' manufacturers have zero tollerance where they will accept a return for any pixel defect, others wont. But this occurs when powered down for 20 or 30 seconds and does not show up with screen tests. I guess the QC policy might be thus: if you power down = your not going to be looking at it = it doesnt matter.
