Probably same here. Especially now that the Atrix is packing some sick hardware on ATT. But, I loved the hackability of the Captivate. I will miss that if Moto locks down their bootloaders.
i REALLY doubt they will switch to the snapdragon processors, why would they pay another company to build it when they could manufacture it themselves thus relieving the middle man....

Most Samsung phones out in the world today do not use Samsung made processors. The Hummingbird wasn't even made by Samsung as much as funded by them. Intrinsity built the Hummingbird for the most part. The Orion is one of the first total in-house processing units from Sammy.
Even some new phones from Samsung have alternative processors. The new Galaxy S with SLCD has an OMAP processor. And, the Focus has a Snapdragon.
I've heard repeatedly that Samsung's Orion won't be available till later in the year. So... it is a possibility that the Expansys specs are correct.
EDIT: Commenter over here made a good point. The Adreno 205 is supposed to be for 720p capable devices... not 1080p ones. Kind of discredits the authority of the Expansys specs.

Honestly? I'll probably just go HTC or wait for the next Google phone (whenever that may be) as my next phone. HTC has a pretty good track record with Sense, and Google phones are purely stock Android. Both have a pretty strong mod community.
I went from an Xperia X10 to the Captivate, and while the mod community is 100x better, and the phone itself beat out the X10 in every way, I don't think I'll be returning to a Samsung phone.
I'm also done with $am$ung and their atrocious software support. I'll rather give my hard-earned money to a company (like HTC) that actually gives a **** about their customers and rolls out updates. I'm also staying away from Motorola and their ****ty bootloaders.

The thing is, Samsung has released a lot of updates for the international Galaxy S. Its the carrier branded versions where software support sucks. With that said the days of buying branded devices are over for me. Specs look nice.
One more rumor of Galaxy S excites me.
Specs:
* Powerful dual-core 1.2GHz Samsung Orion processor
* Ultra sharp 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen
* Next-generation Bluetooth 3.0
* NFC technology for contactless payments and more
* 1GB RAM lets you multitask with ease
* Comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread
* 8MP camera with LED flash and 1080p video recording with 1.3MP front-facing camera for video call

The rumors are mostly fake, but some specs mentioned might become true.
Without a microSD slot, it does not have enough storage. I'll pass on it.
My next phone will be GSM and LTE capable.
I am jumping ship and going back with HTC, or a google phone.
the nexus 3 should be out some time this year, it might be the atrix because of the lte support 850 and 900

Nexus Two = Galaxy S
Have you heard the news? Google is working with Samsung on Nexus Two.
And rumors claim that it will be actually called Nexus S. It is supposed to have the same specs as Galaxy S have and to be released with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
http://androidandme.com/2010/10/news/rumor-samsung-will-announce-the-nexus-two-on-november-8th/
The device will be the Nexus S
* It will be branded as a Google experience device featuring Android 2.3
* It will have the same 4" SAMOLED screen seen on the Galaxy S devices
* It will feature the same Hummingbird processor from the Galaxy S handsets
* It will be easily rootable like the Nexus One was
* It will be at least GSM, unknown about carrier or CDMA
* It will have no hard buttons on the face, similar to a Vibrant

These are good news for us, 'coz we may be able to have Nexus Two goodies and seems like Gingerbread will be ported to Galaxy S (if not officially released) very easily.
If this is the case, nov. 8th announcement will be Da Bomb!!
If this is true, I might sell my SGS and get this one instead for a bigger modding community and faster updates!

Well, Galaxy S is the best Android phone on the market at the moment (hardware wise). So if there isn't going to be released any better soon, Galaxy S is the most obvious choice for Nexus Two.

You'd have to do the hastle to sell the phone, get another one with the same internals but with Google's logo instead. Just flash a rom on the first one and it'll be the same (ok... not the logos, but you can get those on eBay if you REALY want em!)

Hey it would make sense if it happened due to them pulling and delaying the Froyo release.
Ahhh a man can dream!
So I am switching to AT&T and I'm trying to decide whether the Atrix or the GS2 would be better. If I were to get the GS2 it would be the international version. The pricing and release date doesn't matter and all the accessories for the atrix doesn't matter for me.
TL;DR Which one do you prefer? Give a reason as to why you would want either one.

Well that depends.
Spec wise the only thing the Moto has on top of the S2 appears to be resolution.
Everything else the S2 is far ahead, but it is also not available for purchase.
motorola typically these days has locked boot loaders so it makes it impossible to root.. that is a killer for me. there are all kinds of software that i use that needs root.
2nd nothing compares to the brightness especially in sun of the samsung super amoled screens.
but what did you expect to hear.. you are posting this on a samsung forum?
also if you are like me if you have an unlocked phone that att doesnt know the imei range.. you can stay on the 10 per month unlimited family data plan..
although the extra att charges for data (if you are not on family unlimited) is basically butt rape anyway as i never go over 200-300 meg per month
Well I have a Galaxy S Vibrant right now. I do love the screen and also the amouny of customization available but, I don't care for Samsung takinh forever on OTA updates and releasing the source code.

Just an update on what Igkahn said:
The Atrix has actually already been rooted, but it is all signed and therefore no custom kernels are available right now and won't be for a while until someone figures it out.
That being said, I absolutely hate Motorola's Motoblur, and would choose the Galaxy S2 twenty times over the Atrix. The TouchWiz 4.0 on the Galaxy S2 also looks awesome.
I'm still tossing up between these 2 phones.. but in defence of the Atrix Tegra owns Exynos it would appear according to Anadtech.
Also I fear we're looking at some serious delays to the galaxy.. I don't think they'll be out until May earliest..
People need to stop using the anandtech benchmarks as any meaningful measuring stick. Constantly doing so just reeks of willful ignorance. The Atrix has the S2 beat since there is no release date in sight, but you can already get an Atrix at the store right now in the US. I'll be waiting til March for the S2 but if nothing shows up, I might get the Atrix instead.
Moto phones are a nightmare
Atrix will be locked up like every other Moto phone
if DEVs are unable to unlock it, then you are stuck using stock ROM forever
it might not affect regular users, but if you are a PRO user that want the best out of the phone, then it'd not be the phone of choice

Anadtech have said themselves that this is prerelease software on unfinished drivers. Let's wait and see final hardware / software before we make judgements. Also, there will be a variant of the SGSII with Tegra 2 inside (model number 19103)

Again, untrue. The Milestone and Droid X both have locked bootloaders that none one has cracked and both have custom ROMs, the only thing you can't change is the Kernel. Also the Atrix has a signed bootloader rather than an encrypted one, which improves the possibility of it being cracked (albeit a slim one)

I presume you are talking about the Atrix having Pentile, not the SGSII? It is an annoying decision, IMHO the trade off of going Pentile is greater than the benefits of the higher resolution, so I wish they had put a little more cash into it. I case anyone doesn't know the SGSII has a Super AMOLED+ screen which doesn't use the pentile arrangement, hence the jump in screen size from 4" to 4.27"
A lot of posts in this thread are giving out false information, please do research before posting something as fact as people rely on these forums for reliable information when thinking about a purchase.
Galaxy S2 will have the Atrix 4g beat when the phone is released. Tegra2 devices are not yet fully flash supported right now according to some articles. Both phones will be good. I prefer Samsung because they have some kick ass hardware.

True, but bear in mind they were talking about a March? release initially... but looking like April now.
How much work on drivers can they get done in that time? and if the hardware isn't finalised by now they are going to struggle to get this out before iPhone 5.
Oh and and i9103 would be the dream device, but I'm looking to buy ASAP... I can't keep waiting forever
It'll be SGS II for me,as long as there are no encryption/locking issues.
I have the fear the the signed/locked bootloader thingy on the Atrix will never be fully 'worked out',and i don't want my android experience limited even in the slightest way.
If Supercurio,Sztupy,Hardcore and friends can work their magic without limitations on the SGS II then the deal is sealed.Otherwise long life to my SGS.
PS: but will happen to SGS II exynos if tegra 2 becomes the de facto baseground for all future android itinerations?

noooo, you're missing my point.
I've a Moto phone, and it's locked, but it's using a hacked ROM as well, so we all know it's possible to use Custom ROMs
but the problem is, with a locked bootloader, signed or whatever, it drives away developers and good cooks
and when the phone is not popular among the DEV community, chances are you'll most likely get stuck with whatever is out of the box
Another well known issue with Motorola
they put it plain and clear, they do not want to upgrade the phone OS
so if you got your phone with Froyo 2.2, don't expect to see GB 2.4 on it
Moto have a public schedule for OS phone upgrades https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/manager/softwareupgrades
so make sure your phone is listed, else...

They didn't have any other choice. The SAMOLED+ screen has more subpixels than any other screen, and it is therefore impossible to place more pixels on a surface of the same size with the current manufacturing technology (which is most likely one of the reasons why they had to bump the size to 4.3" and 4.5" for the Infuse). They would have either had to make the screen even bigger (ugh, too big), or dropped the extra subpixels (sacrifice sharpness).
Anyway, it's bye bye to the pentile grid which is probably the best news as far as the screen goes

Samsung might not know much about customer relations, but they aren't idiots. The Moment replacement will be single core 2nd gen snapdragon and the Epic replacement will be Exynos
I know GSII will be dual core for Sprint, but according to Thisismynext, Epic successor w/ keyboard will have 1.2 ghz single-core, kinda like the Infuse. WDM (whosdaman and sprint employee) said so too.

I've heard about those rumors, but they sound a bit ridiculous to me for a couple of reasons:
1. There is no benefit to releasing anything under the "Epic" name, it didn't sell that well, doesn't have name recognition and definitely is known for being super late to he updated.
2. Even if they were to release a single core phone from Samsung, the "Moment 3" or whatever they call it will already have filled the niche market of low-mid range tiered keyboard phones, there is no reason to have multiple competing phone with no real difference.

No marketing, lack of interest in a phone for 249.99 when the Evo was hyped to the max and selling for 199.99 and had accessories.
The D600 (aka Conquer) is coming soon as a replacement for the Transform, meaning it's a low (mid) end 4G slider with a full keyboard, but a 1ghz processor and a low(ish) res screen.
The Within is going to be the dual core high-end slim slab phone to compete with the E3D and Photon.
There's not really any room in between for anything that would replace the epic to be considered the EPIC 2, unless they want to have another GSII but with a keyboard, there's no reason Sprint/Samsung would make it.
If we get something replacing the EPIC, it would need to be something thinner, lighter, with a decent battery, better resolution display, and a faster processor for it to be considered a sequel, and would likely be released a while after the within (otherwise we would have seen some specs about it already.)
Also, consider that sprint doesn't usually use sequel naming, so rather than Epic 2, it would be called something different anyway. (There have been exceptions with LG, but samsung is not known for it.)
Also long as we get an sgs2 than I'm good...but if we do get a epic 2 than I want.......1.5 ghz dual core....1gb of ram....hdmi out....4-4.5" screen....android 4.0...3D cameras.... and ASOP

My idea for epic 2 would be 4.2 inch super amoled plus 8 megapixel camera back & 2 megapixel in front a 1.3 dual core processer a 5 row slide out keybord that slides up at an angle so you could watch movie or get online slide up as in it would look like a mini laptop also I would take out smiley button & put one of those little blackberry scrolling balls on right side so when your using the keyboard with the screen slanted at angle you can use that scrolling ball like a mouse! That would be the the best phone out hands down tel me not matter in fact im about to write a letter to ceo of sprint & samsung with my idea & tell them you don't have to pay me for my idea but just give me the phone a month before anyone get it!

...so if you want the slower dualcore S4 you can always get the One X or wait for SIII American release. Don't know how a quadcore S4 will be like yet.
With that said, I'm not hype with this phone for most other aspects, but if the price is not much higher than the One X, it can be a good buy.
The Meizu MX will also have the same quadcore as the SIII, they already announced its price and release date. I would imagine they have to sell it at a lower price than the SIII to compete. And since it will only have qHD screen, it might be faster.
Also that Pantech has S4 because of the LTE. Overally I wish there would be more competition for ARM licensed CPUs, maybe TI would cook up something.

Depends...
If you have the money to spare, why not?
If not then its really not. What can a quad core do that a dual core phone can't? A dual core phone runs very smoothly so I don't see what good a quad core phone could be, besides bragging rights. The HD display is a good characteristic but not exactly worthy for me to upgrade.

I'd consider it worth the upgrade if you're available for one once it's released.
However I wouldn't pay full off contract price for the phone until it gets below the 600 mark.
Regarding your cons: I'm not sure how 1gb of ram is bad considering nearly every smartphone has that much and even our s2 doesn't lag. Just because the phone still has 8 megapixels doesn't mean it's better. Megapixels mean nothing unless you plan on upscaling pictures for printing.
You should take another look at the s3 because there are many new features added to the device software wise and it's a sleeker, sexier design.
You're forgetting Quad Core is only going to be in the International versions. U.S. versions are getting a Dual-Core Snapdragon S4 or some ****. The only real upgrade I see, for U.S. users like myself, is the 12mp camera (if that's even being implemented).

I'd consider it worth the upgrade if you're available for one once it's released.

i usually don't buy phones until they're below $400! lol
because $400-600. That's a pretty good laptop, a very good desktop, a big LED backlit TV. Maybe some 3dtv's on sale... A small vacation. A complete tuneup of your car. you get the point.
But I agree, only worth when using an upgrade, not full retail price.

Where are u getting ur sources.... if Samsung had a big world premiere in London to have quad core, us versions will definitely have quad core just not exynos.. otherwise it would be the same as galaxy s2?...........
Also if you think 12 Mega pixel is an actual upgrade... you need to check your facts because it just means it takes bigger picture and has nothing to do with camera quality.

Maybe u need to do your research. Us carriers will be getting dual core s4 processor. The s4 is a far superior to the chipnwe currently have. Do some research and get all the facts.

Or just be patient and don't but it retail ever again.
The last phone I bought retail without research was my G2X. Feel I lucked out considering it has lots of activities in the Dev side.
But honestly now I'm like a bargain hunter and seriously, the new devices are disappointing in a manor of speaking. Plus the US versions will be gimped out lower tier from the international versions.
Just find a decent device for 200-300 off ebay or craigslist. Then just trade up/down if you have a chance. By now I really want a super phone with 12MP camera, 2.0 CPU quad core, maybe 2 gigs of RAM. Expandable SD Card, maybe a 4.5 screen.
If you look at the new devices, they are a slight update from the last model, and probably run the same. Unless you have money to blow on this hobby, and can afford, by all means. But unless there is a huge leap from previous and next models, its not worth the upgrade. At least not throwing all that extra money for just a minor change.
With all the new development going on for our T989's right now (just look what TDJ has put out the last few days) as well as others. Then once source is released sometime in July...I think this device will stand the test of time well into the future, especially through the length of my contract, which is over a year.
I wish I could drop the money every time a new device came out....I can't, but the DEV's around here give me a new device every time I flash! So I personally don't think it's worth it for me right now, the bump up in specs is just not that big of a draw for me.
This device can hold me over till the s4 or the next galaxy.

Well, I was not interested in any smartphone until SIII. I had an Atrix and for me all the new smartphones seemed to be not far different from mine. I live in Brazil, we don´t have lots of new models like in US. We don´t even use HTC here
So for me it was a huge difference upgrade my phone to SIII. The biggest difference I felt was the super AMOLED screen. The colors, the smootheness.. I really felt a great difference from my mums SII.
I do recommend!
This is the best phone i ever used.. why?
1. Quad core
2. SD card slot
3. Large and replaceable battery
3. Fantastic Camera
4. Tons of feature ( smart stay, pop up play, smart alert, etc)
5. Jelly bean updates on the horizon
6. Good community support
7. Its fast i mran its really fast!!
8. Choices of internal storage option (16,32,64 later this year)
