I'm getting my phone replaced because of dust under the screen, they said they would do it free and I would get a refurb (fine by me, I hate this ****ty dust). So I need to figure out how to revert the phone back to factory settings. I have my phone rooted and flashed with the recovery rom, and pancake 0.1 so what can I do to make it either back to factory or look like factory...
Did you do a nandroid backup before you upgraded it?
yup, i did, it's saved on my desktop, what do I do to use it ?
If you still have it copied on your SD card, boot into recovery, and do a nandroid restore.
If not, copy it back into the nandroid folder, then do a recovery boot and a restore.
That should get you back to where you were before the upgrade.
ok thanks, i'll give it ago and let you know
Good luck.
ok that worked, now there probably isn't a way to 'remove' root right ? I have a few root apps left over from before the nandroid backup I guess i'll just uninstall them and they probably won't be able to tell.
I don't think you can unroot without doing an RUU of the original ROM (I could be wrong). The reason I didn't point you in that direction initially is because a small set of people (of which I am one) had problems with their phone more or less bricking when putting that RUU on it. If you factory wipe the phone before you turn it in they'll have to actually look pretty hard to find it's been rooted. I doubt they'll bother, since if they can't fix what's broken they'll just send it back to sprint, and give you a refurb/new unit. If it looks like it used to (stock) they're not going to check any further than that.
thanks for the help . I'm sending it directly back to sprint, no one's going to be checking inbetween. Hopefully they just make sure it works and isn't water damaged and send it on it's way.
I'm sure that's all they'll do. As long as it looks like stock they won't have any reason to investigate further.
I hate to ask this, but anyone got the original slide rom nandroid backup?
I ran it on mine, and it seemed to work, but now the file is missing and I have a blank sd card. I'm not too worried about the other data lost, but the loss of the restore file is kind of annoying.
I saw a link posted on another thread here somewhere. I have seen so many trying to root this phone that I don't remember exactly. I believe it was the how to root 6/15/10 thread. Sorry not much help but that should narrow your search.
my bad, here's what I saw and thought it was what you were looking for but I don't think it is:

I haven't seen anything completely stock 100% yet up here. Good idea though just in case you need it like you do.
I have a new mytouch slide arriving tomorrow and i'm going to take a clean nandroid dump of it. I can put it up and post a link if you still need it.
Yes,
Please if you don't mind, thanks. Never know if we need to go back to stock. Thanks.
Please and thank you!
Good deal Falken. Thanks in the advance for up
No problem, look for it tomorrow night!
I just finished root and installed Titanium backup and grabbed a complete dump of my virgin rooted system.
Not sure if this is the same as nandroid's backup though.
nope. we need the nandroid backup before rooting. Just in case you have to return it, or some such.
Any luck getting this yet?
Not sure if you meant unrooting your phone to flash back to the stock rom, but so far it looks like falken98 was nice enough to make a Stock (rooted) backup for the Slide, so you can flash this if you want all you "stock" feel.

So my question is does anyone have the stock rom that shipped with our phones but root enabled. Like a dumbass I flashed GorillasDesireHD rom to my phone without doing a nandroid.
So basicly I would like to go back to how I had it prior to flashing so does anyone have a copy that is flashable so I could put it back on my phone. Seems as someone should so that if we needed to return it to t-mobile we would be able to.
nevermind please close this thread IcedGlacier is close enough
Hi guys, i'm new here and a bit of a noob to the whole Android world.
I got my a500 about a month ago and loving it, Rooted it and got rid of all the bloat ware and is running like a dream.... love it....
A couple of days ago, i got an update: System Update 1.139,05, downloaded it and went to install, rebooted but nothing, Update failed!
I already have Android version 3.0.1 and Kernel version 2.6.36.3.
Is it me doing some thing wrong? Is it because its rooted? Do i need the update, please help, just want it to be up to date. Love the forum, thanks

I've seen that some other users have had issues with the update if they removed the bloatware. Have you put it back before you attempted the update? If not, you'll have to put everything you've removed back and if you've edited any of the system files like build.prop, etc..you'll have to put it back to original also.
Thanks for the reply JackMetal! ERRRRRMMMM Q: is this a big update and if so then how would i put everything back, would it be factury settings? and if i do need to put everything back on why did i root it? lol sorry for being suck a noob! )

LOL - yeah, I know..it's kind of a sucky move on Acer's part to force that. ;-) How did you remove them? Did you just delete them or freeze them within Titanium Backup? If deleted, did you happen to make a backup of them first so you could restore them now.
You can look at /cache/recovery/last_log and see exactly what it's complaining about. If you don't have the files you deleted, you can ask in the forum to see if another user can send them to you. I'd be glad to send mine, but I would imagine mine probably wouldn't help you since they are from 'after' the update and the checksum would still fail since they're changed. We could give it a shot though, and if it doesn't work you can see if someone that hasn't updated or happens to have the previous versions backed up, could send you the files.
---edit
Actually, I've got a few Titanium Backups from before the update, so I may just have the files you need!
Sweet dude, right will have to give it a look as i deleted them, noob thing to do i know lol still learning, thanks again for the super quick reply!
Same thing happened to me and this was after I restored my A500 to factory stock. I re-started the update download from the settings/info menu and this time it went without a hitch. I now have the updated A500, rooted it and am ready to go.
Advice for those people rooting their tablets. Don't just delete any .apks you don't want; move them to a folder on the internal sd card instead so whenever you need to restore them it's a simple matter of just moving them back).
Right, just an update.......
don't laugh, but i did try to put back all of the bloat ware!!!!! However, i replace some things and got rid of others, NOT GOOD! " HOME NOT WORKING ", yes thats what it said or words to that effect! Restarted as i thought that would help! OMG BOOT LOOP! Phone acer and sent it back for repair, UPS picked it up and acer received it this morning, and 30 mins again i got a text message with it done you douche bag, well they didn't say douche bag, but hay they should have done! Yes i'm a noob at all this, but i have learnt my lesson. Must say thanks for the help anyway from the forum!
P.S UPS SUCK BALLS, they are rude and v unprofessional! (had problems with them picking up the tablet).
P.P.S Back up everything and the back it up again! And DONT get rid of any system file or anything, to quote someone from the forum, " you have plenty of room! ", I have the 32Gb so yes i have the room lol!
O and just one more thing............ BACK THING UP NOOBS !!!!!!! )
Or Rename!

Also to make easy, just rename the .apk's to .bak or freeze them in Titanium backup!
Not to sound like a smartass but you know you could have done it yourself? Flash the device i mean.
What you do is you look for the boot.img and system.img and update.zip files in this forum or somewhere.
First the chinese one that you can just place in your External SD card and press Power+Vol- when device is turned of.
Then proceed to look for the American version, or whatever you wish if it's available.
Then you do this: place the boot.img and system.img in the root internal memory called Sdcard and place the update.zip in your EXTERNAL MicroSDcard.
Install Terminal emulator and push the boot and system img's 1st boot, 2ndSystem. Have superuser installed to.
After that when the images are pushed (usually the tablet would freeze after the system.img)
Then you force stop and power up the unit by holding Power button + Vol-
and that's it! No need to send to repair and pay money perhaps.
So I gave my sister my EVO which was running Cyanogen, and she took it to a Sprint store to get it activated and they had no idea what was going on with it -- apparently no one in the store had any idea about CM7 or even rooting for that matter.
Where can I get current s-boot on / pc36img files (or whatever I need) so I can walk her through getting the phone back to stock. All the other threads I searched didn't have valid links in them anymore, unfortunately.
Thanks much!
You should be able to just flash the stock ROM here.
If you are taking it into a store, you shouldn't have to restore s-boot on. But if you really want, you can try searching for a Sprint RUU.
