Unroot/flash back to stock? - EVO 4G General

So I gave my sister my EVO which was running Cyanogen, and she took it to a Sprint store to get it activated and they had no idea what was going on with it -- apparently no one in the store had any idea about CM7 or even rooting for that matter.
Where can I get current s-boot on / pc36img files (or whatever I need) so I can walk her through getting the phone back to stock. All the other threads I searched didn't have valid links in them anymore, unfortunately.
Thanks much!

You should be able to just flash the stock ROM here.
If you are taking it into a store, you shouldn't have to restore s-boot on. But if you really want, you can try searching for a Sprint RUU.

Regarding recovery images

I've been doing some searching around but am unable to find a definite answer to my questions regarding the recovery. Following the Non-Tmobile 32B instructions for installing Cyanogen, I have flashed Amon_RA 1.6.2G as my recovery image and I am not in any way unhappy with this, just curious.
As per the instructions, prior to flashing the Amon_RA recovery permanently to the phone, I made a nandroid backup. If I were to restore this backup, would the stock recovery image be restored?
In the case of the answer being no I have been searching for the file for the stock recovery image with little success. Many people asking for it, seemly noone getting it. So where is it? Does anyone have it or can point me to where to get it?
After digging further I downloaded a file meant for the Google ION device (signed-google_ion-ota-150275.zip) out of pure curiousity, which has the same SPL as my device. Taking a peek inside the archive there is a recovery.img file in there. Is this the same recovery image that was stock on my phone? If not, how does it differ?
I know there are a lot of questions there, but after 2 days of forum reading and searching and countless google searches my questions have built up to this point. The answers just don't seem to be right there (maybe the blondeness is to blame), and I'd like to know that I can undo everything that has been done, just in case of needing repairs to whatever.
If anyone has the answers I will be most appreciative.
If you install the OTA ROM from your carrier, it will install the custom recovery and and basically revert all changes made since the day you set your hands on that phone.
A lot of people have to send in their phones for warranty and that's the quickest way to revert it.
There are instructions for T-Mobile US at:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/
You can use them except use your carriers sappimg.nbh

Thanks for that but it looks like that file is totally useless to my phone, as I said above I'm looking for the image for my provider/country/whatever. I would imagine that the build number would be different in some way (correct me if I'm wrong) to the vodafone one and thus would be a bit of a mistake to claim warranty and have them find Tmobile stuff on it.
But thanks so much for the link, it's reassuring to see that the process could be rather painless, so long as I get the right files in the end. I'll cross my fingers that some clever person has what I'm searching for and it magically appears in my inbox one day lol

The problem is that you're probably trying to flash the T-mobile 32B SAPPimg.nbh to your vodafone. You need the vodafone SAPPimg.nbh. Put it on your SD card, power down your phone, hold the volume and power buttons at the same time until your phone powers on. It should take you to a white screen and load the nbh file. It will ask if you want to proceed with the update. Just confirm and let the update COMPLETE FULLY. This nbh file will return you to 1.5 stock cupcake, but from here you will be able to receive OTA updates from your provider. Hope it helps.

You will find the Vodafone nbh link at the top of this thread.

I'm not trying to flash anything, like I said in my first post, I'm happy with what I have done to my phone, I'm running cyanogenmod and have no intention of going back to stock unless I have a problem.
I'm just trying to find answers. Namely the fact that I have a nandroid back up of prior to flashing the new recovery and am wondering if restoring this will replace the recovery with the stock one, and whether the recovery images are all the same no matter where they come from.

[HOW TO] Steps to Take to Prepare a Rooted Phone for Warranty Exchange

I recently had to give up my rooted preordered Incredible for a refurb due to heat issues and reboot (loop) issues. For those looking for a guide as to what to do if you have to return your phone to Verizon and want to unroot. I welcome any comments to update/add to this information:
1) Make a NANDROID Backup if you want to simply port it over to your new phone
2) Mount your phone as DISK DRIVE
3) Walk the directories and delete any cached thumbnails of web sites you have visited
4) Copy any pictures you want to keep which were saved on the phone
5) Reboot into ClockWork recovery
6) Wipe the Dalvik Cache
7) Wipe the Data/Factory Reset
8) Go back
9) Wipe Data (main menu)
10) Power Down your phone
11) Remove your SD Card
12) Download one of the RUU's which are hosted around the web:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Incredible/
13) Turn on your phone and plug it in to your USB
14) Run the RUU and let it do it's thing. When its done, so are you
15) If you have a screen protector, remember to remove it.
Any additions are welcome!
Yes it will revert everything back to normal, that's called an RUU btw
Cool
Anyone know if this also removes the more hidden data, such as the cached images of the web sites you have visited? In other words, if I run the RUU, is the phone ready to just be handed over?
if i root and uninstall some apps, will this restore my phone to stock and allow me to get all future HTC updates?

I don't think so, but it's easy enough to do a wipe and then apply the RUU (and hey, for the hell of it, you could wipe again).
Steps?
[deleted ... first post updated]
I'm pretty sure the RUU will completely wipe your phone. However, you can take giantcrazy's advice and wipe before running the RUU.
One more try

Ok, here is what you want to do.
there would be two things you need to un do before sending them back this phone.
make sure it says S-ON.
and then make sure you have stock recovery.
If you have these two things, your gold bod.
Probably to noob to know any better
After going through a lot of threads this one seems appropriate. I am looking for how to go back to stock DI. After Unrevoked3, ota leak and unofficial froyo leak, my DI wont connect to VZW anymore, all out going calls are busy. Talked to my VZW guys, they are cool with me, tried to help nothin'. Today tried Unrevoked forever and official froyo leak, still no VZW connection. I looked into this a lot before I tried these mods I don't know what went wrong, I would not have been able to do this with out such easy tools as are provided today. "I NEED HELP" to get back to stock, "PLEASE". I have looked into SDK and Adb, as I have been lead to believe there is no way to return to 2.1 and the right radio without these tools. At this moment I have not been able to find clear enough explanations on how to use these tools, this is where I maybe over my head. I assume my radio is fried, I don't care if no "S on", I just need those obvious things; version, kernel, baseband, to be stock. Any help will be appreciated, big thanks for any suggestions

Ok, there is so much here I will do my best.
number one, having s-on is just as important as having a radio thats either 2.15x or 1.x, now that the OTA 2.2 update is sending out, you can send the phone back with 2.2 and 2.15x radio.
what you need to make sure of, is two things, you have s-on,
and you have stock recovery.

Thank you, and really they wont know if the ota was pushed to me? I found the S on tool, I didn't know there was one, I had only read on about S off. I don't know how to find/replace stock recovery, I will start searching though. Much appreciation, my better half is not as thrilled about my learning experience as I am.
I already rooted and unrooted once, will I get stock recovery back after unrooting?

Your welcome, I'm happy to see you are learning so quickly. S-on is very helpful for those warranty returns of the phone.
Verizon has no idea whether or not you got the ota, or better yet what version you have or if you are rooted, ect.
If you tell me what your hboot it, radio, software version, s-on or s-off, if rooted or not, and if you have the stock recovery or clockwork and I will try and guide you to where you want to be..
if you need help getting to the stock recovery this must mean you are rooted, and this can be achieved by downgrading the phone by un-rooting, I'd suggest running s-off while you are rooted, then

To find out real fast if you have the stock recovery or clockwork-mod recovery, boot into HBOOT, (power off phone, hold vol down and power til screen turns on) and then vol down to select recovery and push the power button I think to select and then if you get a red triangle that means stock recovery.
Also need to return phone
I just got off with Asurion and they are over nighting a replacement. I had rooted my phone, installed some root only apps like wireless tethering and set cpu, removed some bloat like CityID and Tweet/Peep, and changed the boot animation. No custom ROM or radio update.
Then I wanted to get the OTA update so I applied s-off and flashed back to stock recovery.
So what do I need to do to return this phone. I know I will need to apply s-on. Then should I flash a stock 2.1 or just revert the changes I made to boot animation, restore the bloatware, and remove the root apps? Do I need to remove any other files that go with being root?
Thanks.........MM

Hello,
I wanted to thank you again for the help this last weekend. I apologize for not returning for more of the help you offered me. My wife only has every other weekend off and we have an 18mo. old son, both of whom deserved my time more than my DI. I love my DI but it wasn't giving me much love.
Although VZW isn't always the nicest to my pocket book, I have never been taken care of as well by any other provider(s) employees, thank you. As I mentioned in my first post, my VZW guys are cool with me. Yesterday I went into the store and the manager offered to help me. He managed to reconnect my DI to the network but no 3g's. He believes my problem is just a coincidence because he had another customer with a similar problem over the weekend, with no mod's. Still I need to exchange my DI, it doesn't look like 3g's is going to turn on.
My real issue is still getting custom recovery off and stock recovery back on, then unrooting will be a breeze. The videos you lead me to are one of the sources I have been working with, however to reverse the leaked ota, Downgrade leaked ota video, requires SDK and adb knowledge, this is where I am noob. At this time my VZW manager who is in school for programing is attempting to help me (he has a over clocked Palm Pre Plus, 1Ghz), this is very cool of him, well beyond what is expected. (I am in no way encouraging anyone to rely on their VZW employees for this kind of help, this is a unique situation, I have been building a relationship with my VZW guys for two years+, not all VZW employees have a clue about mod's, and mod's technically void the warranty) I am hoping to learn enough about these tools, SDK and adb, to help myself before the next time, and I will hopefully be gaining some of this knowledge from my friends at my VZW store soon. I will also be looking forward to the help I receive from fine people such as yourself and people in this community in future endeavors.
I will stop basically hijacking this thread now
Thanks to all of the people who support these community's, with out whom many of us would never get our foot in the door. Much appreciation to ACD168 for being there to help me.
Take the time and learn to do it right the first time.

First off, you are very welcome my friend, anything I can do to help do hesitate to ask!, and your not hijacking any thread brother, that's what these threads are for!!!
Thats real cool of the VZW employees!!
adb and sdk isnt that difficult I can help you!!
Read my post about warranty exchange.
I know alot of people are "better safe than sorry" mentality. but I have returned 2 phones that were fully rooted, updated, s-off running custom roms and I had no issues. in fact ive never had an issue using warranty exchange. ive exchanged phones that I broke (like broke.. with pieces coming off). I just call and tell the operator lady my phone doesnt work, i dont know why.. it was just working earlier and now it wont turn on.. they send me a new phone and I send back the broken one and everyone is happy.
They only confirm that the numbers on the phone match your account. Not the reasons you are sending it Back. the warhouse guy that opens your box isnt the same guy you talked to, nor do they have information about your phone call to the tech. They simply open the box, scan the numbers and move on.
dont stress to much about it
Great info here
Thanks to every one of you on this thread. I am finally breaking free from WinMo and getting Dinc after a lot of research. I like Verizon but hate the bloatware they pack onto Androids and all the other phones, so I will be fiddleing with ROMs. If I screw up I am looking here first to see how to get it back to stock so I can get my new one with the insurance coverage.
Everytime I get to serouosly looking around these forums I learn great new stuff. I will donate to the XDA someday soon!
Okay. so im a noob. Just need to ask. What do you guys mean by stock recovery? I just rooted my phone but need to unroot to send it in for work at Verizon. Could you help me out?

Fascinate to mesmerize!

hey guys, I had a problem where I tried to flash the android 2.2 for the epic 4g to my samsung mesmerize, I know stupid move, I bricked my phone.
I was able to get the phone back on by using the guides using odin restore files that can be found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
I flashed my phone and turned it into a fascinate however I hated it and I figured I have the backup for my memserize let me see what I can do with it. After I followed ALL the steps in the thread above and I had my phone back on with fascinate software I rooted my phone and installed rom manager onto my phone, installed cwm and rebooted my phone into recovery. Once in recovery I restored my phone with the backup of the stock mesmerize I had made, everything went through and the phone reboot, however when it turned back on it was stuck on the samsung screen.
I couldnt get the phone to get past the samsung screen, so I took out the battery, connected my phone to my computer and put the battery back in and held the volume down button to put the phone in download mode.
I used odin to install the uscc kernel I found online, I dont remember where I got it from but I will post the link for it as soon as it is done uploading to dropbox, once it was done installing the kernel my phone reset and it turned back on with the us cellular splash screen and I was back in business with my mesemrize as a mesmerize. I hope this helps anyone who ends up going down the same path I did or wants to install the fascinate roms on their phone becasue you can always revert to mesmerize. I installed the uscellular mesmerize so what I did was I had a backup of my stock us cellular samsung mesmerize backup that I had made with rom manager
Also I dont havent gotten a chance to try going from my stock mesmerize back to the fascinate firmware, I hope this helps those who are on the fascinate firmware and want to go to the mesmerize or for those who want to play around with their phone but are afraid of bricking it!
Enjoy
uscc i500 kernel-http://db.tt/LDbvo2U
Thanks goes out to all the devs and people who posted on these forums to help me get back to my stock mesmerize, sorry if I didnt give credit for the kernel I just dont remember where I found out, also I cant upload the stock uscc backup image of the mesmerize because the files to big and my internets being extremly slow, however I believe it's floating around xda somewhere.
So do the phones share the same modem.bin then?
It would seem that a fascinate could take this route as well?
we already have a vzw modem.bin for both di01 and dj05. so if you want to make vzw fascinate a mezmerize, I would do a nandroid and flash a mezmerize system partition.

[Q] How do I put a rooted and ROM'd Eris back to factory

First of all, let me apologize if this is already posted somewhere, but I'm having trouble understanding some of this.
I rooted my gf's Droid Eris and put a custom ROM on it. She doesn't want it and wants it put back exactly like it was when she got it from Verizon. This means 1) not rooted 2) Android 2.1 w/ Sense (the exact same ROM she would get from the factory).
Everything I've read so far has me doing factory resets (which puts it back to the fresh modded ROM but not the factory ROM) or has me trying to do RSD Lite, but every forum post I read has a broken link to the file because I guess it's illegal to post it or something. Additionally, I can't find instructions for following that method with the Eris anyways.
Can anyone help point me in the right direction?
btw, I'm new to rooting so treat me like a n00b...
I did a nand restore back to the when I originally rooted the phone. It now has 2.1 with HTC but the phone is still rooted.
Also, when I rooted the phone, whatever it did to root it (put something custom on my phone) it turned the trackball light on and that just won't turn off... even when the phone is off!
I'd love to just get this thing back to how it came from the factory.
Maybe if you try searching the Developement Forum, try something like "return to factory stock"
And in the future before you do anything to a phone, you might want to research how to undo it first, I bricked my first eris because I didn't bother to.

Sure. It's pretty simple, really. Download and install the Flashback21 ROM in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
It will return the Eris to factory stock and remove the custom recovery on the phone. I'd do the one without the radio myself.
A friend told me that there is a way to set a phone back to how it came from the factory by installing a factory ROM directly from Verizon through your PC using an app called ODIN. I'm having trouble finding information for the Eris on this process.
I think this is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thanks so much!
I'll let you know if it fixes that trackball issue for anyone else who may have searched that issue
This did work! I noticed that the ROM wasn't exactly like what comes with the phone when we received it from Verizon (which was the same day). I am basing this off the type of wizard that opens when you first turn on the device. It wasn't rooted, though, and did put back what appears to be a stock ROM of 2.1. It's going back to HTC/Verizon tomorrow.

There are no customizations in this ROM - period.
The "stock" setup screens certainly changed between 1.5 and 2.1, and may have changed slightly from the original HTC/VZW 2.1 OTA to the July 2010 2.1 OTA update.
Having said that, there is one other thing that you might have noticed: you didn't see a device activation screen during setup. That is because NONE of the dev ROMs here on the XDA Eris touch the activation state of the phone - including Flashback21.
If you want to deactivate your phone, you need to perform the Factory Reset process from the OS menu, and a "stock" Eris recovery must be on the phone. (So, if you desire to do so, go ahead and do a Factory Reset after you have installed Flashback21)
If you have already turned in your phone, then no worries - the carrier usually deactivates the phone from their side.
Anyways, that's probably what you noticed. Flashback21 is completely stock.

Flashing back to complete stock?

Hey guys... So I'm enjoying my DHD, It was on the 3 U.K network, unlocked it, rooted t, running leeedroid atm, however, if I ever need to get it back to a stock rom in case I wanna take it back, how do I go about it?
Remember it was originally on 3 U.K.
Thanks
There's threads all over the dev section, go have a look at them.
I think most people who have sent them back with custom ROMs on there have just been flashed back to stock anyway, so they don't seem to mind that much, but just in case.
As far as I'm aware though it's as simple as downloading a piece of software called a RUU for your phone, which in your case is 3, running it with the phone plugged in and then laughing at how easy it is =)
OR
Putting the img on the root of your SD card, going into bootloader (volume down and power on, then bootloader) and it automatically finding it, installing it and then reboot.
But I'd suggest reading a few of the threads about it and using the search button because as with all these things, there's always a risk it'll brick
After a quick search this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1267345&highlight=ruu has a link to the ruu you might want, then just ota update it.
Brilliant. Sounds good enough.
Also, how can I change the splash screen of the phone? Hate the "3" Logo coming up when I restart the phone.

Good good. Like I said though, most people seem to just send it back and they'll do it for you
I'm not positive you can, I've never seen any thread saying how to get rid of it. You can have a nice boot animation though from uot (google "uot kitchen")
Here is a link on changing the bootsplash. Its fairly easy to make one yourself, or you can ask one to be made for you. Their are quite a few posted you might find one you like
