Sorry if this is a bumped thread, but how do I make my battery last longer? Mine lasts less than a day. It gets charged overnight and by 2:30 its got the yellow battery thing. That happened today and it was in my pocket not even being used

Bigger battery. Basically turn off everything and you get better battery. Turn on 3g GPS wifi Bluetooth all that stuff and turn the screen brightness down.

Not sure if it applies to you, but if your phone is constantly in poor signal areas, that is going to drain your battery a lot faster.
As mentioned, turning off features that you aren't currently using is a good step: GPS, Wi-Fi, etc. Some people will retort that these features shouldn't use much (if any) additional power when they aren't being directly used. This might be true if you have 100% awareness of how all of your apps are utilizing the phone's resources, but some people don't realize that their apps may be periodically using these features to gain more accurate location information (or otherwise doing things in the background).
Speaking of background processes, make sure that you don't have any rogue apps that sync too frequently. For example, some social networking apps may be using your background data far more frequently than you would care for them to. Check sync settings in suspect apps.
Most of all, just try to remain aware of how you are using your device. If you are playing Angry Birds constantly, it's going to drain your battery. Installing an app that will log power usage can be very educational (like CurrentWidget, for example).
Undervolted or underclocked kernels / cpu settings can also help a lot.
But if your phone is draining down to critical levels by mid-day, even when the phone has just been in your pocket, I would suspect apps/settings that are utilizing too many background resources.
Get on CM7 nightlies with the new .37 kernel and get 36hours of battery life like me and that's with normal use!

You may have a defective phone or battery. I'm currently in the same situation just a little worse. Basically 15 minutes after my phone is off the charger my battery falls to 80%, then it'll be to 50% a couple hours later. This is with zero use and in airplane mode for the majority of the time. So I have to plug my phone in at lunch for a couple hours, but that only gets it to about 85% at which point I can keep it in airplane mode and make it home by 5pm with 50% left again. I occasionally turn back on the radio to see if I have texts or voicemails.
They are in the process of sending me another battery, but I have a feeling it's actually the phone. If I monitor CPU usage in system panel there is high CPU usage while the radio is on, but in airplane mode there is very little. The only things really taking up much CPU is android.process.acore at 6.5%.
I have no idea what's going on, but I'll just be happy to make it at least 15 hours on a charge like I could with my Droid and Droid 2.

What app is this? Thats a pretty cool way to visualized usage.
It's just the battery use settings built in to CM7
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Here's my setup...
I get great battery life (70-80* hours from full charge to dead) with these settings:
ROM: SkyRaider 3.5
Kernel: Incredikernel
I'll echo another member's post. Turn things off that you aren't using (i.e. 3g, wifi). I will only turn these things on when in use (checking email, surfing web, etc). Along with 3g, and wifi, your screen brightness is a huge battery killer. I have mine set around 20%.
Another thing I found to help is having SetCPU profiles set. Here are my settings:
main: 1075 max, 245 min. ondemand (set on boot checked)
screen off: 245 max, 128 min. priority 100
Temp>39 C: 245 max, 128 min. priority 99
Charging/Full: 1075 max, 245 min. priority 98
Battery < 20% 883 max, 245 min priority 97
Battery < 40% 998 max, 245 min priority 96
The above settings give me outstanding performance while the phone is in use, and really help to save battery power when not in use.
*This battery life was directly after a wipe of the battery stats. After a few weeks of regular use I'm seeing about 60-70 hours of life (full charge > dead).
yeah, I would have to say that your poor battery life is a combination of the stock kernel and the stock sense UI, which both suck up battery like nobody's business. When I used the stock ROM and kernel, I got like 6 hours of battery life. Now, same phone, battery, everything, i get like atleast 20, more if I don't use the internet much or text all day.

yes, stock battery. These stats were directly after a battery wipe. I've gone through lots of battery cycles (full charge > dead) since than. I'm now getting 60-70 hours per charge.
I've edited my above post with updated SetCPU settings and denoted the battery wipe.

I second this. I get amazing battery life (~1% every hour) but that's with:
- screen off
- using the HTC extended battery - 2150mAh
- without bump charging [see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871051]
- I also don't worry about 3G, GPS, or location and leave them on all the time (but I keep wifi off when not using it).
But the above setup is excellent for battery life compared to dozens of other ROM's and Kernels I've tried.
The 25plus is what I'm using, the other one had a few issues but still overall ran pretty solid.
setCPU usually isn't recommended with this kernel because it already has one built in but I never experimented much with this so I don't have anything to really say about it.

yeah i didn't do any music streaming from subsonic that day, but even when I do (about 2 hours worth) i still get at least a full 24 hour use period out of it.
My battery life is alright i guess. One thing that worries me is the huge drop I get right after i charge it to a full charge. It drops about 7-10 percent within minutes. After that its slows down.

It's normal because your phone is really suppose to use 80% (top 10% and bottom percent unused).
You can bypass the top 10% by bump-charging, but you will decrease overall battery life.

Better battery life is simply impossible! As the picture below ilustrates, this thing did not sip a single percentage from around 9:00PM to 9:00AM this morning. Sure, the phone was not touched, but even still... I then checked my emails, Twitter, and played some music from my SD card yielding the 9% drop.
I have an Exchange and a Gmail account pushing, Wi-Fi is always on (BT and GPS was off), and Tango, Tikl, SportsTap, SetCPU, Astrid Tasks, and JuicePlotter services running in background in addition to the typical OS services.
SetCPU Profiles:
Temp > 50: 499/245 ondemand
Screen Off: 245/245 ondemand
Charging/Full: 998/245 peformance
Battery < 25%: 499/245 ondemand
Battery < 100%: 998/245 ondemand

Yea, it doesn't use much power at all when it's not being used.
Well, it normally does... it is still pushing and polling information too/from servers. 1% per hour is already really good, but 0% in almost 12 hours in insane!
not for nothing, but I get the same results with baked snack 1.9, pushing basically the same stuff, but without setcpu.

Those screen shots don't mean anything. Are you saying you only get about 2 hours out of a full charge? Hell, I can watch a movie for 5.5 hours on a full charge.
Something isn't right. If you ARE only getting 2 hours, wipe your phone and start over, something is wrong with your ROM.
I am using Fresh 3.4.0.1, I have 8:50 uptime, 2:55 awake time, and I have 60% battery left. I don't use stepcpu and have not changed the kernel.
The 0% battery drop in 9 hours is certainly impressive but I have a feeling the quick drop after waking the phone up is a delayed indication of the true battery consumption over the past 9 hours.
A few minutes of syncing/email/browsing usually doesn't hit my battery life quite as much. I don't keep great track of my battery life but I know the other day when I didn't have my charger at night I was at 70% after 24 hours WITH mild usage and syncing. Or to put it another way, during my 8 hour workday I lose one/two bars with 4G on, GPS on and autosync. Not too shabby.
Mine did the same thing the other night. Went to bed with 1% left, woke up 10 hours later with 1% left. I was on wifi, however; everything is syncing and turned on, too.

Only thing I can think is you are in a poor service area and your phone is constantly searching for signal. That will drain your battery fast.

It's almost 12 hours actually. Also, the drop is due to streaming Pandora while checking emails. That's a normal drop for streaming Pandora and using my BT headphones.
after about a week of lurking and trying to get a grip on owning my first android device. here is my first post
My girl and I got some evo's and me being the nerd that I am with my devices I ended up here within about 10 minutes of having my device.(first eight minutes I was cleaning up the cream in my pants about my new device.) before one trip to reddit.com/r/android (<-beware of the awesomeness that is reddit!)
anyways I digress. I rooted instantly for tethering and started really hating my device because of the battery issues and I continued to read and then i took the plunge.
mine Azreal 2.4 with riptide theme v8 started with Netarchy 4.2 then swithched to kingxclick #11
I am a heavy user and I have been up 12.5 hours with 4.5 screen on time WIFI RADIO only pandora or music or internet vids ALL day. just dropped under 40%
I thought that was good but my girls setup is killing mine
hers Virus Airborne 3.1 with kingxclick#11 and on a full charge and top off method and battery wipe she is running now 27 HOURS with 3.5 screen on time
without a charge and is at 37%
she doesn't use her phone nearly as much as me but her wifi, and 4g on the ENTIRE time.
setcpu setting that worked for me!
kingxclick#11 CFS or BFS: Put the following settings: 1152-256 conservative. Then in advanced settings: Up threshold 95, Down threshold 50, and Freq. step 5. Test these settings out before you click "Set on boot"
(not my own setup just following one if the sages around here's posts)
I get things like that sometimes where it will be constantly decreasing then suddenly stop for several hours. I think it's just an error/inconsistency in reading the battery or something because it isn't a realistic effect.
Seeing similar results with Stock Fresh 3.4 and Setcpu. Look at the time when I went to sleep
Juice Plotter
Using Battery
I'm tempted this weekend to just leave my phone idle until it actually drops a % and see how long our phones actually have standby time with this kernel.
hey pretty new on mt4g so i wanted to gauge battery life and see what other people are seeing. I'll start and lay a rubric for everything I'm seeing
Mytouch4g
Rom cynogenmod 6.1.2RC2
Grankin 2.6.32.27 oc'd to 1.8ghz. Kernel
Have set CPU set for 245mhz on screen off/On demand. And normal is 245 to 1.8ghz on demand ad well. ( Not sure what's good profiling and stuff
Have Facebook and ebuddy and everything is off cept for data. No email only push Gmail
Hitting about 1% every 20 min and when i do browsing for like 20-30 min i lose like 10-15%

Nice..
Mine can only hold for about 15 hours, lite web browsing, barely phone calls and texts..
I got about 16 hours yesterday. Using CM7. Brightness all the way up. Everything on except wifi. Browsing about 2 hours. About 5 phone calls, 15 mins or more. Used google maps. Did about 20 text msgs. I think that's all I did. Loving the battery life on CM7.
I get like 2 days use out of my phone without charging it. I've always tried to figure out why my battery life is always so much better than my gfs and I think I might have figured it out....I'm always on wifi.
The two places I am the majority of the day (work and home) I am constantly connected to wifi so it keeps my radio from scanning for a bettery data signal so my battery lasts a lot longer.
I have:
Iced Glacier v.1.1.6
Gorilla OC 1.6ghz beta v05 (but runs at 1.7ghz?)
SetCPU set at 1.7ghz ondemand and 245mhz screen off powersave
I get around 16 hours from a full charge, but Im always on the phone and playing with it but I have noticed that my battery does last longer on wifi
after tinkering around with it its working out better.
using
CM7nightlies#9
CM kernel
no setcpu
i get around 20 to almost 24 hours of usage. but most of the time i'm charging or partial charge cause i stream music like a mad man ahha.
stock i can get almost 24 hrs on a full charge im also using screen filter app(awesome app to use) im on pocket empires a lot too
Is it just me or does 100% last longer when fully charged? Has anyone also observed this? ATM I have 93% at 20hour mCPU scaled at 768mhz and around 15-16H moderate use with scale at 1.6GHz on max load.
I bought the Mytouch 4g on black Friday and found problems with the battery life in the first week. 5 Hours maximum without even using it. The camera worked randomly. I exchanged the phone for another one and all my problems were solved. I use the phone for gaming mostly and that drains the battery obviously .
I purchsed the powerskin case from the T-mobile store and I couldn't be more satisfied. I can use my phone for 6-7 hours straight playing games and browsing the web and it still has a full battery with a bar left on the power skin. It may be a little bulky but it brings be back to the good ol days when phones were bricks and adds that extra padding that I feel is necessary for protection. The price tag on the powerskin was $70 at the store but when it was scanned it came up as $40.00.
I highly suggest this product for those with fear of their phone dying unexpectedly.

Just because of root your battery is that great? My brightness is off all day and my Data is off and my battery MIGHT last me till like 10:00 PM..
This is probably a silly question, and after quite a while searching I haven't found any real answer, but here goes:
Going from original out-of-the-box to rooted RoyalGinger 2.1, the battery use by my Display has gone WAY down. Like from always being #1 to usually being well below Cell Standy, Phone Idle, Wi-Fi, etc. And it's definitely not that I'm using the Display less.
Has anyone else seen this? Does it have something to do with how RoyalGinger, Gingerbread, etc. calculate battery usage? Is it normal?

yes its normal. you came from stock MySense UI(stock Glacier), and Sense builds are known to be battery whores because they look awesome, have loads of interactive widgets, and lots of bloatware as well. going to an AOSP build(CM7, RG) the ROM is very lightweight and contains little to no bloatware and still as fast, maybe even faster. just look at the size of the files...Sense=300+MB, AOSP=80-110MB. plain and simple, all of the bloat consumes more power on your display

Thanks for the prompt reply. I guess I didn't expect the Sense bloat to be reflected in the display usage. Does "Display" include the touch interface as well? If so, I guess I can see why Sense would show up as display.
Display counts more than just the power used by the LED backlighting.
I plugged my phone in yesterday at 14 hours of uptime with 45% battery remaining, after a day of fairly heavy use. Close to three hours of music listening, two hours of screen-on time and 3G/wifi web browsing, forty minutes of voice calls and a few SMS.
Using CM7 nightly #143 and insanity v3 kernel, 122/1017 clocks with smartass governor. I'm sure if I switched from smartass to conservative my battery life would increase a bit, but I like the smoothness that smartass gives me, and even on a day of brutally heavy use, I'll still come home with at least a quarter charge left.
Here's mine. Don't post attention to the time, I rebooted a couple times, it's probably been about five hours on battery. I don't do too many games per se, but I do browse xda and facebook a lot

Every single rom ive ever flashed for evo since day one, that has the battery bar as a """"percentage indicator ""instead of plain battery bar always drain drain drain watching he percentage drop every minute, but regular roms with plain batery bar seems to hold decent charges
this issue never fails??
Because the EVO consumes battery power like an alcoholic consumes booze, the stock battery has like 4 values 100 75 50 15 so when u go to a battery gage with more accurate numbers it appears to drain faster
Sent from my Synergized Evo using the XDA app
Yup pretty much. with the bar you don't see it dropping, that's all. that bad boy is still suckin the battery down like Lindsay lohan with an open bar tab. If an evo drains a battery in the forest and no one is around to see it, does it still happen way too damn fast?
You bet your ass.
You don't have your phone/rom optimized. My indicator will sit on a percentage value for minutes (or hours) during use. The phone also consumes zero power at idle.
Evo Deck 1.3d 2.3.5, Tiamat 3.3.7 sbc, -50mV undervolt, interactive governor, 128/768mhz, display brightness 14%, autosync off.
I average 24hrs with my 1500mah battery and have observed a max battery life of 37hrs... With moderate use (screen on about 6-8hrs of that time).

It's not, really. My phone does everything I need it to and it runs super - quick.
Also keep in mind that the Evo is powering a 4.3" lcd
You can't really have it all with smart phones...tons of useless widgets and Apps syncing in the background, or acceptable battery life. Take your pick. It's not limited to android phones - I've had similar experience with Windows 6.xx and Palm Os.

Yup pretty much. with the bar you don't see it dropping, that's all. that bad boy is still suckin the battery down like Lindsay lohan with an open bar tab. If an evo drains a battery in the forest and no one is around to see it, does it still happen way too damn fast?
You bet your ass.

Also keep in mind that the Evo is powering a 4.3" lcd

What is that?
14% brightness? Do you live in a cave? Unless I'm trying to use the phone in the dark I can't see much below 100%. As for the 700mhz any of the fun Apps don't like it to much. Those ninja fruits are to fast for me. My biggest killer of the battery is the weak ass towers in my area. Even when the phone is sleeping its pulling -50ma -350 using the xda app surfing on wifi. At work streaming radio its pulling more than a car charger can put in. It shows -50 while it's charging. No rom or kernel seems to make a bit of difference for me. I've bit the bullet and bought a car charger for my car and truck, the wife's car, the company truck and even the Polaris has its own. I'm thinking of patenting household electrical outlets with a usb port supplying 5volts and installing them all over the house. If somebody beats me to it remember where you heard it from.

Nope. 100% hurts my eyes - that's way too bright.
There's also nothing my phone can't run at 768mhz. I don't use my phone for those fruity ass apps. Angry Birds and racing games are the only ones I play.

Bad Batter Life?
I don't know about you guys but my battery will last at least 18-24 hours depending on how much I text or use data. I am still a noob to the whole process of flashing and customizing the kernels and roms but with synergy's latest rom I have seen significant improvements in my battery life and I have not messed with the power options nor do I know of any with the current rom.

how are you getting this pls help me
Well it also runs an older core and screen etc
I've always had OK battery life, can usually get about 2 hours of screen on time and my phone will go from 7am until 11 pm... Just two days ago I flashed the most recent radio.. 2.15.00.0808 and between that and MikG 2.5 my battery has really gained some extra life. Must be the new radio since I also flashed it for my wife and she noticed a damn good increase on Fresh.

go to "Settings > About Phone > Battery > Battery Use"
at the top of the screen there is a graph that will also say how much time you have been running off battery. click on that graph.
Look at all these OMGZ BATTERY LASTED FIVE DAYZ AWESOME BAHHHH! I've noticed one common thing between them all, well 90% of them at least, the owners don't use their phones. You see these long battery life's but very short on screen time and very long intervals in between on screen times. Its common sense that you'll get great battery life if you let your phone sit hours on end just idling.
For the people who actually use their phone like texting, phone calls, surf various sites, and play games, having great battery life like all these people say is a dream. I want to get an idea on what real world use on your phone gets you.
Here's some screenshots of today's battery cycle, which is about average everyday for me. I've sent and received in the neighborhood of 250+ texts, surfed various sites, trolled xda, played a game for a while, and read my news.
So let's see what my life compares to all the other power users like myself vs the people who let their phone idle in the corner for three days and say they got amazing life.

That's badass!! Though I don't use my phone much during the day at work. I check Tweetdeck for facebook and twitter timelines, XDA app, gmail, listen to music at times, read news through Pulse and Browser. Here's my battery stats for that one day that I wanted to see how my battery would hold out with deep idle on. Did not plug it in to charge entire day (I normally charge it while working).
This was on AOKP M3, Matr1x 16.0 cfs 200/1000. WiFi on in the morning when I woke up and checked some stuffs before heading to work. No WiFi at work entire day, then WiFi on again when I got home as shown in the screenshots.
Oh geez.....yawn

Not everyone uses their phones the same way you do, while I do agree that people who just let their phone idle just for the purpose of getting amazing screenshots doesn't accurately portray real world battery usage, it still doesn't mean that we all use our phones the same way you do, for example I have school during the day, I can't be using it constantly so of course I'll be getting better battery life than "power users" but then again this is MY REAL LIFE USAGE so I'm not just letting it idle on purpose, so please don't put everyone that gets good battery life on the "OH MYY GAWDZZ" boat. Also I do actually use my phone, I get everything I need to be done on my phone while consistently getting 20+ hours with 4-1/2 hours screen on time.

Well thank you for expressing your feelings about categorizing people. I said that because well that's what most people do on here, truth. The whole point of this is to see what people are getting that use their phones, power users or not. I just want to get a good look and filter out the people who sit on their phones, turn data off and all that. You're completely right that no one else might use their phone as much as I do but I'd rather get a good look at actual use rather than like you said, looking to get that amazing screenshot.

But this is my real life usage, I'm just not into heavy gaming Would've had around 5% more if I didn't get a random reboot at around 75% mark.
Activities include: email & whatsapp sync, around 10 mins phonecalls & 20 texts, reading ebook, browsing web & market, playing light game.
What makes a difference is good signal reception (all green/not using 3G unless there's no wifi and I need to download a file) and constant access to wifi (working from home, didn't need to go anywhere the last two days). Setting screen brightness on lowest unless I really need to turn it up helps too.
On heavier days when I'm out and about, using GPS navigation and mobile data, making more phonecalls & texts, taking pics, I typically get about half of that (20-24 hours).

well there's the thing about letting your phone sit forever, but also wifi. a lot of us sync a lot of stuff, so even when we sleep the phone will lose a clear 10% overnight. That's fine and all, but when you're on wifi, the stress on the phone is a lot less simply because 3G data takes a LOT more power....

Hello everyone,
I have had my Nexus 4 for about 8 months now.
And to be honest I think my batterylife has been quite poor.
I'm currently using ParanoidAndroid 4.2.2 - 3.69 in combination with Matr1x Kernel
My phone is undervolted and due to Matr1x the minimum CPU frequency is 192Mhz.
I have JuiceDefender set to Agressive. And I no longer have any sort of Wakelock.
Location Services and Google now are Turned off.
I can get around 2 and a half hour Screen On Time with the screen Brightness turned to minimum and 3G on 70% of the time.
When my screen is not on I luckily don't have any drainage. The phone could stay on for ages. I just slept 10 hours and left it all with antenna enabled (Juicedefender turns off 3G by default when the screen is not on and only let's data through once every 30 minuts). The charge dropped from 73% to 70%.
When I'm at home and turn all my antennas off, activate wifi and connect to my home network. I can use my phone for about 3-4 hours with lowest screen brightness.
Listening to music with screen and antennas turned off doesn't seem to drain my battery by a lot when listening for a few hours.
So what I was wondering is;
Is this battery life normal?
I've seen a lot of people who have 4 hours screen on time with auto brightness outside.
Is this a hardware issue, meaning my battery is due for a replacement, although I can't remember battery life being better the first few weeks. I remember only getting 1 and a half hour screen on time. I was able to increase that by undervolting and lowering the minimum Cpu frequency. As well as installing battery management apps.
Here are some screenshots I took yesterday.

Your idle time seems pretty normal, but 3-4 hours OT on wifi is pretty horrible. I can get almost 6 with wifi only. and 4-5 with 3g/LTE. I'd try a different kernel. This worked well for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256887 if you're on 4.2.2. You should consider upgrading to 4.3 I heard it gives better battery for a lot of people.
This also looks helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2424729&highlight=sot
It does seem a little low compared to my phone. However your signal is pretty low a lot of the time which could definitely hurt your battery life.
Chrome is also very high on the list, were you using it ?

Yes, I was using it for around an hour I believe.
The low signal was because I was travelling with a train. But really, even with normal signal it's somewhat around 2 hours and half SOT on lowest brightness.
To be honest I don't mind paying for a new battery and changing up if the problem turns out to be the battery.
However I would first like to see what the actual issue is.
Because it would be pretty useless if I got the same results even after putting a new battery in.
My CPU governor is currently "OnDemand", what profile do you use?
I'm now testing Wheatley to see if I'm getting better results.
Running paranoid android with the screen on I was sometimes losing 2% every 10 or so seconds whilst on HSPA+, I don't know if that's my fault with kernel settings or what but on CM10 I'm at 70% at 8 hours of HSPA usage and just under 2 hour screen time.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Hmm, interesting.
Stock was a lot worse on My phone though.
Bump.
Should I contact Google?
Who should I contact for help on this?
I'm now trying Wheatley governor instead of OnDemand and undervolted an additional 25mV. Am I the only one with this type of battery life issue here?
I can get away with 1025mV @1.5ghz, I like interactive; in trickster mod go to hotplug and make sure min cores are at 1 as Matrix sets it to 2 I believe (this excludes screen off)

your battery life is normal. not bad, and not extraordinary. you can probably get more out of it though, control your apps and background processes. thats where the most battery life can be gained. how many apps do you enable to notify you of stuff? also, apps that are made to save you battery actually use battery, dont use them. battery life mostly comes from how you set up your device and how you use it. from what i see, you need to set up your device be more battery friendly, if that is what you are worried about. and chrome is terrible to use if you are that worried about your battery, the aosp browser is much much better.
