Look at all these OMGZ BATTERY LASTED FIVE DAYZ AWESOME BAHHHH! I've noticed one common thing between them all, well 90% of them at least, the owners don't use their phones. You see these long battery life's but very short on screen time and very long intervals in between on screen times. Its common sense that you'll get great battery life if you let your phone sit hours on end just idling.
For the people who actually use their phone like texting, phone calls, surf various sites, and play games, having great battery life like all these people say is a dream. I want to get an idea on what real world use on your phone gets you.
Here's some screenshots of today's battery cycle, which is about average everyday for me. I've sent and received in the neighborhood of 250+ texts, surfed various sites, trolled xda, played a game for a while, and read my news.
So let's see what my life compares to all the other power users like myself vs the people who let their phone idle in the corner for three days and say they got amazing life.

That's badass!! Though I don't use my phone much during the day at work. I check Tweetdeck for facebook and twitter timelines, XDA app, gmail, listen to music at times, read news through Pulse and Browser. Here's my battery stats for that one day that I wanted to see how my battery would hold out with deep idle on. Did not plug it in to charge entire day (I normally charge it while working).
This was on AOKP M3, Matr1x 16.0 cfs 200/1000. WiFi on in the morning when I woke up and checked some stuffs before heading to work. No WiFi at work entire day, then WiFi on again when I got home as shown in the screenshots.
Oh geez.....yawn

Not everyone uses their phones the same way you do, while I do agree that people who just let their phone idle just for the purpose of getting amazing screenshots doesn't accurately portray real world battery usage, it still doesn't mean that we all use our phones the same way you do, for example I have school during the day, I can't be using it constantly so of course I'll be getting better battery life than "power users" but then again this is MY REAL LIFE USAGE so I'm not just letting it idle on purpose, so please don't put everyone that gets good battery life on the "OH MYY GAWDZZ" boat. Also I do actually use my phone, I get everything I need to be done on my phone while consistently getting 20+ hours with 4-1/2 hours screen on time.

Well thank you for expressing your feelings about categorizing people. I said that because well that's what most people do on here, truth. The whole point of this is to see what people are getting that use their phones, power users or not. I just want to get a good look and filter out the people who sit on their phones, turn data off and all that. You're completely right that no one else might use their phone as much as I do but I'd rather get a good look at actual use rather than like you said, looking to get that amazing screenshot.

I understand what you were trying to get at. Its just not everyone is using their phone like you do so REAL LIFE usage will vary greatly depending on the user.

But this is my real life usage, I'm just not into heavy gaming Would've had around 5% more if I didn't get a random reboot at around 75% mark.
Activities include: email & whatsapp sync, around 10 mins phonecalls & 20 texts, reading ebook, browsing web & market, playing light game.
What makes a difference is good signal reception (all green/not using 3G unless there's no wifi and I need to download a file) and constant access to wifi (working from home, didn't need to go anywhere the last two days). Setting screen brightness on lowest unless I really need to turn it up helps too.
On heavier days when I'm out and about, using GPS navigation and mobile data, making more phonecalls & texts, taking pics, I typically get about half of that (20-24 hours).

well there's the thing about letting your phone sit forever, but also wifi. a lot of us sync a lot of stuff, so even when we sleep the phone will lose a clear 10% overnight. That's fine and all, but when you're on wifi, the stress on the phone is a lot less simply because 3G data takes a LOT more power....

Hi to all!
I'm thinking of buying either the Legend or Desire. There are two things that are important to me. The battery life and storing applications on the memory card. I suppose that the latter will be taken care of by the upcoming update to Froyo (if it ever happens!). How about the battery life? How long does it last on the Legend? Would anyone have any experience with the Desire vs the Legend on this? All comments appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!!
I don't have experience with the Desire but my Legend performs battery wise as expected from a smartphone I guess.
After the last update I discovered for example that leaving Google Reader open in the browser in the background drained power, so I now leave the browser always on the google homepage or kill it altogether when I'm not using it and I've seen an increase in battery life.
Anyhow, I give it a pretty intense use, on a work day I listen to podcasts on it for some hours at least, I connect it to my car bluetooth on the commutes (40 mins average total), read email, etc. And it lasts me the full day without problems, usually ending the day with 30% or more battery left.
It obviously depends on how each one uses their phones, as tricks like the Reader one I mentioned can make a difference.
The Legend seems to have slightly superior battery to me. My legend ends the day at about 30 percent after 2 hours of Bluetooth stereo playback, and plenty of latitude use and web browsing. My partner's new desire ends the day about about the same but without the music playing I do.
I was jealous of the desire when my partner bought it but If I had the choice of legend or desire again, it would be a hairline decision to buy legend again. If Legend had live wallpaper I would choose legend without doubt.

My battery life is even better than my old dumbphone. With medium use and pretty stringent management (ie. a task killer, bluetooth and wifi off unless I need them), I can get about five days on a charge.

Are you sure you are using the original battery ? I have never heard anyone reporting 5 days on any smartphone on even minimal usage. Legend seem to give 1 to 2 days max on minimal usage.

I have on two occasion to manage get three days but five days? Naah, not with the original battery.
Well if you disable APN the thing can last 5 days, but with net connection active definitely no way.
I can believe he gets 5 days out off this phone. I can get 3 days out of it with very good reception, some hours of browsing and 20 texts a day. Almost no calling and 3G always on AND WITH A GOOD TASK KILLER I always kill almost every app before putting it in standby you just need to know what you can and can't kill.
I can do 3 days with low use (maybe 10min calls and 20sms a day) and APN off most of the time.
With APN on I don't think it will last more than 2 days max
Just to clarify, I do turn off my mobile internet unless I'm using it at that moment, and yes I'm using the stock battery.

Sure, if you turn everything off it'll last a few days, but then might as well carry a dumbphone
Hey all,
I've been using Azure 1.0 on my Legend.
In case anyone is wondering what battery life is like on this ROM [I know I wanted to know before I decided to run it...] :
I've just got the best usage for this ROM in terms of battery life, since I started using it [0.5].
I haven't gone for Azure 1.0.1, and have stuck to 1.0 as I didn't have any APN issues...

Voice calls = 1hr 3m 15s + SMSing
WiFi = 6hr 46m 46s
For the hours that WiFi was not on, Data [H/3G] was always enabled.
Approx 1hr 45min of browsing
Approx 10 emails received and replied to
Battery life was pretty poor when I first installed the ROM.
Then I used SetCPU to help....but it didn't seem to help too much...
Now I am seeing better battery life, like the above.
No idea if this is good/bad for this ROM, but for me, its the best I've seen yet....
...though still probably not as good as I first saw on the stock ROM before the update which messed up the stock SMS app was pushed out...
18 hours ~ 24 hours average. 1 and a half day or so if I'm lucky.
2G network. only switch on 3G when it's needed.
Wi-Fi, gps and bluetooth if needed. If not, it's turned off all the time.
always leave my Trillian (MSN/YM/gTalk) turned on almost all the time (like 75% of the time).
WhatsApp for 24 hours.
Mail fetching every 4 hours.
Twidroyd fetching every 15 minutes.
Urbandictionary widget fetching every hour or so.
15 minutes of call average.
Texting about 10-20 times a day.
And data counter widget running all the time.
Rooted and using a nice clean ROM called "CleanEclair 1.6.2"
Got a good Task Manager too.
It's definitely better than my old iPhone 3g.
BUT, if you are asking "Desire or Legend"
I may choose desire for it's better hardware.
PS: Sorry about my bad english.
Just to echo previous statements about battery life, I too get an easy 24 hours from my UK Legend. It usually has at least 30% charge left when I plug it in at night (10-11pm), this is from about 6am. As I type this as 4.30pm it has 69% left.
I leave data and wifi on all the time but only enable GPS & Bluetooth when needed. The phone connects by wifi at home but is in a marginal 2G location when I'm at work (cheers, Vodafone!) so probably has to work quite hard to keep connected to the network.
Google services and Twitter update constantly, Facebook every hour.
Don't run any task killer apps as I found they made naff all difference.
I do watch how many browser tabs I have open and what's on them thought as I notice that some pages really suck the battery dry.
Navigation is the real killer on the Legend (or any Android I guess); the combination of screen on, GPS enabled and heavy duty data use means it can go flat in as little as 3 hours. A power cable in the car will only supply 500mA, rather than the full 1A that a main scharger will, so it only really slows down the drain on the battery.
Other than that I expect the phone to fit my life, not the other way round. The effort that some expend to micro-manage their battery life really baffles me!
I get terrible battery life...
Typically 7-8hrs , now I use it for work but today I did 30ish minutes of calls, + maybe 1hr's worth of reading emails, sending data etc etc etc.
From looking at the "battery" part of the settings/about screen I can see that Display seams to be the thing EATING the battery..
is this normal?? I do use the power widget and put the screen down as low as it goes when I can however im really shocked at the power usage..
Ive tried using a task killer (advanced task killer) and JuiceDefender and neither make much difference...
any comments?? am I being realistic? I used to have a blackberry 8900 and it would easily last me a whole day , doing the same email load, websurfing, syncing etc, might even last 1.5days but I tend to plug the legend in whenever I can....
Is this normal???

Yup. Try lowering your screen brightness and see the difference. Screen and gps is the most battery-hungary.
Everything depends on how you use your phone. Try to avoid GPS and max screen brightness. And always remember to kill aps with any of the app killers, after you finished with it.

Good advice. Except on the task killing. Google around why task killing is not healthy for your phone.
my battery doesn't seem to show the correct level...I can charge it overnight on the mains an in the morning it has only got to 38%. Take the battery out and it goes up to 60ish%. Phone will last about a day, but can't seem to get a full charge into it.
hey pretty new on mt4g so i wanted to gauge battery life and see what other people are seeing. I'll start and lay a rubric for everything I'm seeing
Mytouch4g
Rom cynogenmod 6.1.2RC2
Grankin 2.6.32.27 oc'd to 1.8ghz. Kernel
Have set CPU set for 245mhz on screen off/On demand. And normal is 245 to 1.8ghz on demand ad well. ( Not sure what's good profiling and stuff
Have Facebook and ebuddy and everything is off cept for data. No email only push Gmail
Hitting about 1% every 20 min and when i do browsing for like 20-30 min i lose like 10-15%

Nice..
Mine can only hold for about 15 hours, lite web browsing, barely phone calls and texts..
I got about 16 hours yesterday. Using CM7. Brightness all the way up. Everything on except wifi. Browsing about 2 hours. About 5 phone calls, 15 mins or more. Used google maps. Did about 20 text msgs. I think that's all I did. Loving the battery life on CM7.
I get like 2 days use out of my phone without charging it. I've always tried to figure out why my battery life is always so much better than my gfs and I think I might have figured it out....I'm always on wifi.
The two places I am the majority of the day (work and home) I am constantly connected to wifi so it keeps my radio from scanning for a bettery data signal so my battery lasts a lot longer.
I have:
Iced Glacier v.1.1.6
Gorilla OC 1.6ghz beta v05 (but runs at 1.7ghz?)
SetCPU set at 1.7ghz ondemand and 245mhz screen off powersave
I get around 16 hours from a full charge, but Im always on the phone and playing with it but I have noticed that my battery does last longer on wifi
after tinkering around with it its working out better.
using
CM7nightlies#9
CM kernel
no setcpu
i get around 20 to almost 24 hours of usage. but most of the time i'm charging or partial charge cause i stream music like a mad man ahha.
stock i can get almost 24 hrs on a full charge im also using screen filter app(awesome app to use) im on pocket empires a lot too
Is it just me or does 100% last longer when fully charged? Has anyone also observed this? ATM I have 93% at 20hour mCPU scaled at 768mhz and around 15-16H moderate use with scale at 1.6GHz on max load.
I bought the Mytouch 4g on black Friday and found problems with the battery life in the first week. 5 Hours maximum without even using it. The camera worked randomly. I exchanged the phone for another one and all my problems were solved. I use the phone for gaming mostly and that drains the battery obviously .
I purchsed the powerskin case from the T-mobile store and I couldn't be more satisfied. I can use my phone for 6-7 hours straight playing games and browsing the web and it still has a full battery with a bar left on the power skin. It may be a little bulky but it brings be back to the good ol days when phones were bricks and adds that extra padding that I feel is necessary for protection. The price tag on the powerskin was $70 at the store but when it was scanned it came up as $40.00.
I highly suggest this product for those with fear of their phone dying unexpectedly.

Just because of root your battery is that great? My brightness is off all day and my Data is off and my battery MIGHT last me till like 10:00 PM..
This is probably a silly question, and after quite a while searching I haven't found any real answer, but here goes:
Going from original out-of-the-box to rooted RoyalGinger 2.1, the battery use by my Display has gone WAY down. Like from always being #1 to usually being well below Cell Standy, Phone Idle, Wi-Fi, etc. And it's definitely not that I'm using the Display less.
Has anyone else seen this? Does it have something to do with how RoyalGinger, Gingerbread, etc. calculate battery usage? Is it normal?

yes its normal. you came from stock MySense UI(stock Glacier), and Sense builds are known to be battery whores because they look awesome, have loads of interactive widgets, and lots of bloatware as well. going to an AOSP build(CM7, RG) the ROM is very lightweight and contains little to no bloatware and still as fast, maybe even faster. just look at the size of the files...Sense=300+MB, AOSP=80-110MB. plain and simple, all of the bloat consumes more power on your display

Thanks for the prompt reply. I guess I didn't expect the Sense bloat to be reflected in the display usage. Does "Display" include the touch interface as well? If so, I guess I can see why Sense would show up as display.
Display counts more than just the power used by the LED backlighting.
I plugged my phone in yesterday at 14 hours of uptime with 45% battery remaining, after a day of fairly heavy use. Close to three hours of music listening, two hours of screen-on time and 3G/wifi web browsing, forty minutes of voice calls and a few SMS.
Using CM7 nightly #143 and insanity v3 kernel, 122/1017 clocks with smartass governor. I'm sure if I switched from smartass to conservative my battery life would increase a bit, but I like the smoothness that smartass gives me, and even on a day of brutally heavy use, I'll still come home with at least a quarter charge left.
Here's mine. Don't post attention to the time, I rebooted a couple times, it's probably been about five hours on battery. I don't do too many games per se, but I do browse xda and facebook a lot

Well I won't complain. Like I mentioned, I was really surprised at the low battery consumption of the display. Didn't expect that much difference just by changing ROMs. Wish I would've rooted a long time ago.

Just wanted to recommend the trigger rom to everybody with bad battery problems. I was running Bionix before and getting 8 hrs at most, but now with trigger Im going all day without even touching a charger. I dont have any widgets that connect to my internet on the homescreen and Im not running any apps that hog power. Yesterday was a pretty heavy day for the phone though ant it worked flawlessly. I guess the only thing I really did was underclock it to 800mhz.

I am running the Bionix 1.3.1 with the Dragon overclock kernel. I get 15-17hours a day on one charge, I am overclocked to 1.28ghz (I do have profiles in setcpu that underclocks me to 800mhz when the screen is off or when I am charging its down to 1ghz).
So I am not bashing your rom, but the reason you were having such terrible battery life really doesn't have much to do with Bionix. When I was running Bionix by itself I was averaging 22hours on a single charge
Currently I am at 30% battery life having gone 9.5hours on one charge today. This was a particularly harder day on the phone than normal, I have made several calls (to the tune of about 2 hours total), I have been playing "word with friends", constantly chatting on google talk, updated several apps over the course of the day, did some google searches on Dolphin HD browser, some you-tubing, and constantly checking and reading/replying to emails from my three accounts that are synced on it.
(I was home all day today lol)

This was a particularly harder day on the phone than normal, I have made several calls (to the tune of about 2 hours total), I have been playing "word with friends", constantly chatting on google talk, updated several apps over the course of the day, did some google searches on Dolphin HD browser, some you-tubing, and constantly checking and reading/replying to emails from my three accounts that are synced on it.
(I was home all day today lol)

Impossible to really put much into it. Everyone uses their phone differently, even those people on different days. Flash what you love.
I get two days worth of battery life with heavy texting and moderate wifi. This Rom is a keeper for me I'm at 1 day and 3 hours and got 45% battery remaining.
I get from the Trigger Rom 20 hrs +/- with average use , 30 calls 20 texts, 20-40 emails, music other misc.
it is a Solid Rom and it battery performance is excellent.

nothing new...
Overstock+any rom with disabled 3g and setcpu @800 MHz - about 48 hours (with music, ebook, calls). The proof is somewhere in the Trigger topic
I just went 29 hours off one charge on mine. Trigger is a keeper for me as well.
Get the same battery life with bionix 1.3.1 and overstock 1.5
3 exch accounts
Facebook and twitter syncing every 2 hours
3g+wifi
Two hours of bluetooth and music
Few texts and phone calls
Gps for traffic in the morning and in the afternoon
Brightness at 50 %

And here I thought I was finally doing good with Trigger and you all come in and blow my happiness out of the water.
I pull mine off at 8am sharp, it sets with wifi and wifi calling on at work all day. maybe 1 10min phone call 2-4 txt and 4-8 emails and I get home at 6pm with 20% remaining. before on stock I would have to charge at 1-2 just to make it home and I thought that trigger and overstock was kicking butt till you all stepped in here with your usage and times and now I'm depressed again....
I even installed system monitor and it shows wifi calling only using 2-4% all day and the cpu usually hangs around 200-400. Guess my phone just hates batteries. might try setcpu.
trigger is awesome. i was messing around with some of the 2.2.1 roms... but i eventually went back to trigger. so smooth, so clean.
Wifi calling is a huge battery drain. You'll do much better without it.

The only issue is no signal at all at work, so wifi calling was a blessing when it came out so giving it up is kinda a bad thing, nothing like paying for service I don't have 9 hours out of the day. but like I said wifi calling was only consuming 2-4% so I don't see how that is killing my battery. But for a test I'll run one day with the app frozen and see how my battery goes.
I don't think the 2-4% is completely accurate, as that's probably due to cpu and not the increase in radio/standby usage. Try it without when you're not working. Even so you're getting great battery life for being on wifi calling.
Im not bashing the Bionix rom at all. I ran it for about 3 months straight and it was amazing. I had it overclocked to 1.4mhz and it was a beast, but I never used all that speed anyway. I was constantly disabling data and I basically took all the smart out of the smartphone. I was having to do everything manually to keep my battery lasting about 8 hrs.
I just never had battery life before like I have with this trigger rom. I just wanted to recommend it to other people that have serious battery issues. Flash whatever you want. The people on these forums have ceated some amazing roms and they all have their pros and cons. For me, trigger is the best so far. Just wanted to put that out there

Do you have a desk job where you sit at a computer? If you do, why not just hook your phone up to your computer with the USB cable and let it charge and power off of that?
But as was stated before, Wifi calling along with really low or no signal will eat your battery.
Odin back to stock then flashing trigger again helped my battery big time also.
i don't know if I received a "dud" unit in the sense, but i have noticed INCREDIBLE battery life on my Nexus S with moderate use. the first day i had it (2 days ago), I charged to 100% and then started using it. I would say I did about an hour of browsing, an hour of talking, an hour or so of texting, maybe 10 mins of GPS use, and an hour of unlocking, rooting, etc. also just left the phone unplugged from charger overnight. on the first charge, there was a point where i was at 1 day 12 hours and 16 mins on battery and still had about 40% left or so. I even have a pic of the battery usage page I will post. *it should be noted that i turned off wifi, gps, etc when i was not using it. and did not use a live wallpaper. *edit: i also had background sync turned on the entire time. syncing gmail, contacts, calendar, etc.

That's over 2.5h "display on"-time and still 40% left, sounds quiet impressive. There's something wrong with your phone, in a good way.
If your numbers aren't accurate though, it's "normal". Idle use of 1% and less per hour w/o widgets and background active apps is nothing special.
it may also be related to you being on AT&T. i've read in various forms where people say that AT&T's mhzs (don't know the technical term) use less power than T-Mobile and WAY LESS than Sprint, which results in better battery life (the whole CDMA vs GSM thing).
The Sprint CDMA ones seem to have the most battery issues.

I'm actually seeing an increase in battery life with GRJ90....
My phone without mobile data on lasts about 20 hours...with mobile data enabled, but not necessarily active because i am usually on WiFi the battery life is reduced to maybe 5 hours...pretty bad...mobile here is Edge
Could it have anything to do with being in a bulding with thick walls? maybe the phone is using more power transmitting just trying to figure out where the cell is?

While it is true that bad signal harms battery life, 5h is ridicously low. Those 5h, how long is the display active in that period?
Check the battery status and see what is draining your battery so fast.
Try to change the WIFI rules from "turn off wifi when display is off" to "never turn off wifi" (you can still disable wifi the normal way, it just won't time out if there's a valid connection available), you can also set your phone to "2g only", if - as you said - your area has edge only anyways to further safe battery.

well its not a cdma vs. gsm thing, if sprint where able to purchase those frequencies they would have and it would have been different.
Much the same with tmobile them being so late to the game those are the best freq. they could obtain.
much like how sprint/clear's wimax sucks really due to bands it had to run on.
during the 5 hours, display is on for very little time....wifi is not a problem..when the display is off i still get email notifications and all that...i dont turn wifi off when i go out to the street and its constantly searching and i still get like 20 hours...but with 2g on, battery goes fast. I am not worried YET though, as my time at this 2G only location is about to end soon, then i will test 3G. I will spend some time in the US and plan to get simple mobile there...i belive that will be 3G with the Nexus S.
I do more tests once I get there...here I cancelled the 2G data this week since it drained the battery and i barely got 20kbits downloads (literally useless).

Out of curiosity, how much time were you getting before and after the update? I sold my two Nexus phones because I was getting maybe 5 hours tops with average (not heavy) usage!
I am hesitant to try the Nexus again, unless everyone says the update made the battery life much better for the CDMA version.

This is around what I'm getting (without a LOT of Wifi usage, maybe an hour 1 tops.....the rest is on 3G). The way I like to test my battery is to see how far I can go WITHOUT Wifi because of course it will last forever with Wifi on (should anyway). I can average like 15 hrs a day, with around 3.5 hours of display time on (really depends on what I was using it for) after the update....
Along with that, the new Gmail update will most definitely increase the battery life even MORE now because I keep EVERYTHING on, including:
- GPS AND 3G location services (use to turn 3G location services off, but the battery has been so nice on the Nexus I never found the need to anymore)
- Auto-sync turned on for Google Account services (Gmail, back-up, etc.) and Exchange account
- Exchange Push account (syncs 3 days worth of stuff)
- Auto brightness for my display (I drive 2 hours to work and 2 hours back, and on the way home the sun is constantly on the screen so it has to auto adjust for the brightest setting for however long I use it driving home from work).
I don't have many accounts syncing or anything (not into Facebook, although I have one) so that may be why. But prior to the update, my 3G signal was weaker so my battery would die a little faster (although I've ALWAYS been able to make it through a day of work with my Nexus). For me, the battery life has always been the best of any smartphone I've used, but after the update it seems a little bit better; not DRAMATICALLY better, just a little better (still can't touch the iPhone 4 on-call phone I had for work for a week......didn't have to charge that thing but one time during that week )
Again, this is with the Nexus S 4G
I meant 5 hours when it is sitting idle most of that time. Maybe 2-3 hours of actual usage.
I have going long as 15 hours with normal usage.

You seem not to be on Sprint (cdma) so this particular battery issue is not related to you...
I'm really amazed to be hearing about all of these phones with such terrible battery life. I have a Nexus S 4G & my battery gets me through half the day now this could be due to the 1750mah battery I'm using & then I'll switch to the stock 1500mah to finish out the day. I consider myself to be a fairly heavy user because I'm always on it sending text, emails, web surfing, phone calls, utilizing it as a hotspot & the only thing I've noticed that really puts a drain on my battery is downloading massive amounts of data, streaming data & watching movies on Netflix. I even use it to game online with my PlayStation 3 because I'm in an area where there is no internet & signal strength is all but none. I guess I too have an anomaly but nothing like a day & a half I wish. If there is anyway to extend battery life any further I would love to know.

I get amazing battery life on my Nexus S 4g. I owned the Epic and the Evo before the Nexus S and I gave up on those because of the battery life. I'm usually at over 30% at the end of the day. I do have the latest stable build of netarchy installed. I undervolted using setcpu and have 1 profile. Underclock to 200mhz when the screen is off. I sync my Gmail as well.

I probably could have pushed it even further. The first night it was updating 35 apps over wifi, and that sucked up almost 60%

I got 48hrs from the same rom, with wifi on constantly with skype. light to moderate use. Music at least 2+ hours twice in that span as well. Great rom. I chose not to UV or overclock so I have no SetCPU or anything installed, it's stock toxic with the 98 kickass script and v6. Really fast actually and no need for oc.

thats impossible with "moderate" use.
its light, and i mean like.. VERY light not even to the scale of being the actual light... so techinically your not using light, but using little light to no light at all.
P.S. my sentence includes 6 words "light"
now that i'm done with that bull****.
Please people posting their batteries as 40+ hours, PLEASE start using your phone. or just get a feature phone, honestly.
I, too, keep my phone on standby more than actual use, but i DO use it when i can. theres atleast 8 hours of music daily, constant wifi use, 24/7, and i get near 20 hours of battery life because i consider my use minimal moderate. At the end of the day, my battery life is usually at 40%, then i charge it again.
I'm on MIUI as well so battery life isn't perfect and i can deal with that.

I SAID "light to moderate"... Also how can one judge what moderate is vs moderate with a guy who acts like a girl being on the phone all day texting and talking??? It's a ridiculous to even judge moderate or light vs someone else, because everyones concept of light to moderate are vastly different. So don't come at me like that bro.
Light to moderate (hence i didn't use strictly moderate) to me is at least 1 and a half hours on skype calls, at least an hour and a half on calls, a few texts on skype and sms, 10+ emails, a few show-offs lol, Wifi never turned off and skype always signed in, at least 4+ hours with music at the gym and a little after, a few random checks, a few market and web browses and maybe a short vid chat. That's light to moderate to me.
If you want to see less than light, like when I'm sleeping and checking my phone occasionally with wifi set to never turn off and skype signed in always I'll show you. It's been almost 12 hours since i was at full charge and unpluged and I am now at 94%. seems ridiculous I know and I thought so too but I ain't complaining. Stock battery as well. I'm no way saying this is light or what have you because it was idle for 90%+ Just an example of how deadly toxic 8 is with battery. And I do have apps. I dont usually play games though.
look at the attachment. That was after I downloaded 2 apps and tried them both lol and couldnt figure out how to screenshot. I'm done with this "bull****" now.
Once I see the cell standby is higher than the display I pretty much know how you use your phone.
No, you only know what you see. I am running Toxic8 also and am getting around 30+hours of real actual use, granted 8 of those are when I am sleeping, but still get strong use all day long.
Day in my battery.
Get up and go to work at 7am, listen to Iheartradio until 930-10
PowerAmp until 130 lunch with texts and email checks throughout.
130-2 XDA, random surfing
2-6 I listen to 2 different podcasts.
6-7 ride home on bus and listen to PowerAmp and check XDA again.
9-10 after kids in bed and I play a few games and check/clean some files in
Root Explorer.
Go to bed and then start over in the morning and finally plug in around 10 or 11 (lunchtime)
The cycle may shift a few hours here or there but it almost always the same. Oh and not sure if it is this ROM or not,but if I go into settings>about phone>status>batteryuse the picture shows that my display is at 75%, stand-by is 15% and phone idle is at 10% all +/- and that is clearly not the case. So you think that you see what my use is like but really you aren't.
I also use Juice Defender Plus which kills the radio/data traffic for an app-to-app basis and I have it set to kill radio/data while I am asleep.
I can post a screen shot if you like of the battery use (seeing isn't believing) or a shot of BetterBattery Stats (seeing is believing) if you like, but I am using my phone all day AND getting 30.
my vibrant hates toxic 8 for some reason. ultimate rom on the other hand has been very fast, responsive, and long lasting.
I prefer to actually use my phone for what I paid for it to do.....if I just want a phone ill go buy one out of a gumball machine or pick it out of a box of cracker jacks

I was at 19 hours and 31 minutes using the Stock ROM with 41% battery left.
That's 33 hours if I had let it go all the way down with the same usage, and I definitely used it more than the OP does if that screen shot is any indication.
Didn't use airplane mode or anything.
I just uninstalled all apps I don't use and use a Black Background with only 3 home screens and a 30 second screen time-out.
WiFi used whenever I could, and I keep GPS on all the time now. Automatic screen brightness, too
The people who are being negative, what do YOU consider good use? I'm on trigger 3.2 final with bali 1.8.8 kernel, and my phone can get 24 hours with occasional use and still be at 50% battery, easily 24 hours with REAL use.
Real use includes calling for 1-2 hours, playing at least an hour of games, and just syncing off for apps I don't use constantly.. I don't have the phone underclocked when screen is off or undervolted any more than the kernel is set for.
How do I get that battery life? When the screen is off, it is in deep sleep. I get less than 1% battery drop per hour when it is in deep sleep. So basically unless I'm ACTUALLY using my phone, it isn't draining.
The part that impresses me is that I get easily 20+ hours of heavy use on the ORIGINAL battery(over a year and a half old). I know that battery must have lost some of its ability to charge.. I got my phone replaced by warranty, and the battery they included WILL NOT give as much battery life.. it makes me think that the problem with some people is a combination of a crap stock battery, and wake lock issues..
Wow this is some crazy stuff! I've been on GB for a long time now. I was just thinking the other day to flash back to 2.2 just for the lulz. But then along came the ICS port.
It seems I should try this out.

2.2 toxic is a great rom. i think it doesn't get enough love because of the GB and ICS options.
either way even 12hrs of battery life is pretty nice congrats
What I don't understand is:
1. How come it's on flight mode?
2. How come Display < Stand By?
Running on stock 2.2 with 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS turned off, barely any apps installed so nothing started up in the background, and not recieving any calls all day my battery went from 100% to 93% in 13.5 hours. I estimate just shy of 60 hours of potential battery life.
But that was with a phone that wasn't being used at all; i.e. a paperweight. I could just turn the phone off and claim I had a bajillion hours of battery life.
FYI when I took the sim card out of my daughter's iPhone 3G, turned off wifi, and shut the screen off it lost about 1% PER DAY. That works out to a 3-month battery life (give or take) but again it's just a paper weight at that point.
In other words, if you're using your phone as an MP3 player for 2 hours a day, why shouldn't it get 44 hours of battery life?
Ok so i read all this hype about crazy8 so im trying it out now...
Damnit im very impressed....
I watched 2 movies complete played angry birds, on my phone for most the night and this morning when i got off work 9 1/2 hrs later i still had 35% battery life.
That is awsome to me,though i did not get 44 hrs due to i actually use my phone i will say im impressed,,,,i now no longer need to carry my 3 batteries and the external charger with me everywhere i go lol
I normaly go thru 2 battery changes a night.
Tonight i will run with all the script tweeks and so on...im excited to see the results then lol...although i will not run plane mode and undervolt it and all those lame tricks, actually may oc clock it a bit.
No more miui and cm7 for me lol bad ass battery life with everything working and snappy as hell....im at home with crazy 8
