What a terrible rumor as the source for GB has been released and anybody with the skill/knowledge can build the OS from the ground up...

nope, gingerbread has been held back for the nexus one because of security issues and the need for the api that will allow apps written for dual cores will run on single core phones
2.4 is still going to be gingerbread that will most likely be the offical update for the nexus one

Actually not true, it has been held back and 2.4 will be GB. They are adding in dual core support before they release it, well official carrier release that is.

No. That's simply not true.
2.3 is still being developed. In fact, an update from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 was just released today. Today. Today!!!!
All of this speculation is based on one alleged Viewsonic leak that was probably far from accurate.
2.3 is Gingerbread. It is still being developed. Carriers are working on 2.3 updates as we speak. There is NO evidence otherwise.

Yes it was updated today for the Nexus s, the ONLY phone running an official 2.3 OS.
The speculation has been verified by several credible news outlets that google has indeed created a new branch of GB GRI17 which will be 2.4 GB which is the version that will be released to carriers. They have also verified that this will push back the release of GB to phones running froyo, since there is only 1 phone running 2.3. But dont let facts get in the way of it being incorrect though.

Not directly from Google, but this looks like proof enough.

SPECULATIONS!!! Wahahah!

So, let's have thread that speculates everything from moon to cheese to mars and to the BP oil spill and the Russians killing terrorists. Oh, and froyo.
I say froyo release is around the corner with the developments of Flash updates and chrometophone.
Michael Jackson is still alive...
The moon is hollow, not made of cheese.
FroYo is going to be released before Gingerbread, but after tonight.

Check the dates before Adobe Flash 10.1 is released for Android... couple of days before that release date... you get your Froyo OTA....then flash is released
Some people said it could be around the 15th and 20th of this month... remember that the Desire will get Froyo on June 22nd..we should be getting it before that...

Precisely the point.
Adobe launched Flash, and a few days later, Froyo was rolled out.
And there's been a quiet buzz of activity from the devs and Google with the new fixes on their apps, new marketplace structure, recent commits, and even recent comments on the Google forums.
I suspect it's right around the corner. Sometime this week sounds right.

Yep! Sounds feasible to me.. I would say for next week... is coming out. IIRC I saw that flash was being released next week... then Froyo should be coming next week too..
Let's see...
I predict, Froyo will become self aware at midnight on release day.
It will release the worlds nuclear warheads in an act of self defence to try and wipe mankind of the face of the earth.
But a resitance will emerge to fight the war against the androids...his name...steve jobs but sadly despite his best efforts... He will confuse his troops by making up words to make things sound better so when he unvails his new ilaserkibblebang his troops will run out to fight thinking they holding the latest technology but in fact....they will only have.....an elastic band gun!
The more predictions i read the more anxious i become! I'm gonna stop reading predictions and just wait for it.

The latest release after Gingerbread!

I think we're getting DL15, not DL11 - Found this on samsung.com

Every morning I do a quick search of the interwebs to check for new ROM leaks - so I search "Epic" "Froyo" "DL11" "DL15" etc.
I just googled "Epic Froyo DL15" and THIS was the third result. It looks like an unfinished FAQ for a DL15 update.

So after more than a week, Samsung still hasn't completed this simple FAQ, no wonder it's taking them so long to get FroYo out.
I don't see why they wouldn't push out the latest version. Average person isn't going to want to flash again a week later for minor fixes.

This is really the only reason I miss the evo...atleast the coorperate devs t htc and sprint rolled out updates...they have gotten 3 updates while we are still stuck on di18
I have to be honest, I'm really reconsidering buy this thing. The evo can be modified in all kinds of ways, and it gets updates from Sprint/HTC in a much more timely fashion.
Samsung and Sprint doesn't seem to give a crap about the Epic for some reason, I'm not sure why since Sammy has sold close to 10 million of these galaxy s phones. I mean if you don't support these devices and provide timely updates, I don't see people being repeat customers of Samsung.
This has been my first non HTC smartphone, and frankly its looking to be my last, its a shame too, the hardware itself is terrific.

It's not that they don't give a crap about it. Froyo was designed on and optimized for a different processor and file system. For whatever reason, Samsung insists on using their own file system, which means they basically have to port Froyo to work with their specs. In addition, a company that only makes phones and pda's like HTC, can concentrate 100% of their resources on those products. While Samsung is making microwaves, TV's, Cameras, and whatever else, so they prioritize a little differently.

There comes a point though when they have to actually release something. Would you still be ok with the wait if they decide to start working on build DL21 and then move on to DL24, etc... and not release a damn thing in the mean while?
This is just freaking ridiculous. We were promised before the end of the year we would have Froyo and it seems that is not going to happen now.

We're here live at Google I/O, and the folks from Mountain View have just shared something rather interesting -- a coalition of manufacturers and carriers committed to making sure their Android devices receive the very latest updates. All four major US carriers (and Vodafone) as well as HTC< Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG and Motorola are on board, and all will guarantee you timely upgrades to the latest version of Android for eighteen months after release, provided the hardware's capable.

18 months is the period in which an android device will get that promised regular update and support. Obviously.
I'll believe it when i see Vibrant GB source on my desktop
Best announcement of the Google I/O would be if they announced that Samsung is pushing GB to all Galaxy S phones.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. The Nexus S is using the same SoC as the Vibrant and google is going to pass at least one major update to it, Ice Cream Sandwich. Plus our GPU is powerful enough to supply the holographic UI.
Look at the N8 for example. The CPU is weak but the GPU can still nicely support the UI along with no lag.
If Nexus S gets ICS and we don't.
I'm going to Samsung's store and saying HERE i dont want your phone and go back home and pick up some other great phone of that time.

Samsung is rethinking the update not T-Mobile...... If we didn't get an official gingerbread update we most likely won't get an ice cream sandwich update. It will most likely only be going to the original galaxy tab and the I9000 if any.

Per this article and other, similar articles, Samsung is reconsidering. Not T-Mobile. The difference is, Samsung may roll out ICS for Galaxy S on other carriers and not T-Mobile, just like GB. Hopefully Samsung will atleast throw us a bone via Kies some day.
Squeek those wheels!
Yes the article sounds good but!, like someone above posted "tmobile [or samsung] hasnt rolled out gingerbread for the vibrant YET" !!
We need to up the pressure on both tmobile and samsung they cant afford to loose "millions of users over a dumb update" !
An thats what they are worried about!
So do what I do to every inane tweet by either tmobile or samsung retweet while working in the words > "...gingerbread for the vibrant..#shameonsamsung #boycottsamsung.."
Can I make a difference alone? no But Millions of us can!
Give them hell!
p.s. This is also the same for the pathetic excuse the cyanogenmod team came out with for them stopping support for the vibrant ie the 911 problem. The 911 problem was that way from day one with cm roms so cut the bs! The truth for the cm rom team is they got pissed off by someone and decided to screw all of us vibrant people over for the crap from one person!
yes different excuses but same results were getting screwed!
I most assuredly support cm rom team and all of the other developers on XDA but what happened to the team spirit? Come on guys post a disclaimer about the 911 and get back on the updates!
PLEASE!
No hope for us vibrant users. They are talking about international galaxy S, and probably US carrier versions that officially got gingerbread.
Ya this won't happen for the vibrant tmo doesn't even carry it anymore, they already have are money we had to ***** to even get froyo that had to be installed via kies mini. If one of the other us variants gets ics that would be are best bet, then again it won't be a easy port it never is.

Yeah, Rider.. that's also what you said about getting laid, but.. here you are. ;D
i'm sure samsung said this just to keep all the outcry to a minimum as possible. delay, delay, delay until the people give up and move on. it only makes sense to release a non carrier aosp version rather than figure out how to shrink touchwiz being that this is mainly targeting the tech savviests out there.
so if any of you haven't yet, sign it! show samsung we care and want them to improve.
we might need to start our own petition.

i'm sure samsung said this just to keep all the outcry to a minimum as possible. delay, delay, delay until the people give up and move on. it only makes sense to release a non carrier aosp version rather than figure out how to shrink touchwiz being that this is mainly targeting the tech savviests out there.
so if any of you haven't yet, sign it! show samsung we care and want them to improve.
we might need to start our own petition.
this is for the i9000, but hey it's close enough

thats for i9000, you know that, but i don't think us signing it will actually do any benefit for US... i signed it anyways.
Yeah the same chances as us winning the lottery...
Why do people give in so easily?
I admit Vibrant will probably never get an official Gingerbread or ICS update. Samsung is certain to skip us if they update international Galaxy S to ICS. That doesn't mean we should throw in the towel. Tweet them, who knows we might end up getting an update to either 2.3 or 4.0.

Hope we'll get the ICS Update officially! The phone worth it!
I saw that too, asked Motorola if our Atrix will get ICS for sure, waiting for reply...
I wouldnt hold my breath. I am a member on those forums and have been part of their Soap testing. From what Mark has said, he doesnt believe that the Atrix will get the update anytime soon. They are working backwards from the newer devices first then back to the older ones. Since the Atrix 2 was released sooner than the original I would expect to see that on the list before the Atrix itself.
I doubt it. There's no reason for them to update it They release like 20 phones in a 12 month period. Why waste the time/resources updating a model that is already 1 version older.
CM9 is the only viable answer to the ICS question for the Atrix.
They sent me this same thing, one month ago.
Its fun to see this hope of yours....

Useless and redundant speculation thread is useless and redundant.
Oh goodie. It's an announcement of an announcement. That...doesn't tell us anything.
CM9 from Joker in the Dev forums...that is all you need.

All you need?
It's an alpha build with no camera support and gapps kinda work.
Guess you have lower expectations from your phone.
This is not knocking the work, but it is far from an "all you need" solution.

It's an alpha.
Even if official ICS comes, it will definitely be after the dev supported ICS roms on XDA hit final release. Mark my words.
i'd be completely shocked if they updated the phone we all paid for less than a year ago. but who knows, if they decide to it'll probably 8 months before they release it.
Don't get too anxious. Remember how long it took for them to roll out updates for Gingerbread. Motorola can do all the work, then get discouraged by the priorities of the carrier.

Look. No CM9 ROM has camera support right now. Btw, I'm running the latest alpha and it is working quite well for an alpha. I just think Atrix owners should start looking to this ROM, rather than waiting for Motorola to push out ICS...of which I doubt they will do anyways.

All we need is start work on porting Roms/updates from the Atrix 2 to our Atrix's so when they get their 4.0 update we can just port if we don't get one too. And I wouldn't be so skeptical captivate made it to official gingerbread even though infuse which is the closest phone on the network got theirs before with no hope for its predecessor before it. Even if its not official during the past months we've gotten updates off of Moto test servers before they were released.
I think this horse has been beaten enough.... dont you all think so?? We'll get it when/if we get it.... until then, be happy with what ya got available..... OR go buy yourself a device that has ICS available already... or is 100% certain to get the update....

Kudos that you have a working camera. But, from what I hear, most CM9 ROMs don't have a working camera.

Won't work.
Atrix 2 uses an OMAP CPU.
It's only similar in name.
