I am about to flash the bionix v 1.2 rom and in the downloads section it shows the wipe and wipe free versions. the wipe free versions have gingerbread and tw options but the wipe option only has one: its called wipe. I am coming from flagship v3 so i know i have to use the wipe version but my question is after i flash the wipe version do i have to flash the gingerbread wipe free version if i want the gingerbread look or does gingerbread come already inside of the rom for the wipe version?

ok, but what else?
do i need to wipe cache partition and dalvik cache like when i reflash the kernel?
Please forgive the noobish question..this is my 1st android product and I am still learning...
I am currently using Task650's rom version 5 along with the current pershoot kernal....If I want to move to Version 6
1. do i only wipe the delvrik cache, then flash version 6?
2. do I need to reflash the kernal after flashing version 6
3. what is the easiest way to backup all my apps if i have to wipe everything and then put them back?
i am using a rooted 10.6 wifi only...just really trying to get the hang of if there is an order to flashing roms and kernals like if i install a new rom or even update if i have to reflash kernal and reset setcpu?..thanks in advance.
Please Anyone... I really wanna do this...

1. Most scripts wipe dalvik cache when install or upgrading a ROM. Check with rom author if your not sure. With V. 6 from V. 5 its not necessary.
2. Yes, V. 6 will flash stock kernel. Unless noted in original post from ROM creator, custom ROMs "generally" have stock kernel. Other forums this is not true. You will need to setup SetCPU again after flashing.
3. Titanium Backup, it's a very powerful tool for backing up data apps. Rule of thumb, DO NOT backup and restore system apps, you can put your device in a bootloop or other bad things like applications that force close all the time.

Just a FYI: no need to boot the rom first though. Flash ROM, directly flash Kernel and then boot up. Good luck!

I've seen it recommended to reboot between the ROM install and kernel install. Though I can't say that there is harm that I am aware of.
for #1, task650 said: "You only need to wipe dalvich and cache to upgrade from V5"
for #2, havent tried to flash the kernel yet but will give a shoot asap
Any advice how to do it is more welcomed
for #3, titanium backup ftw
I have an unlocked, rooted, Motorola Atrix from ATT. I installed an unofficial Gingerbread 2.3.4 release (one that was released before the official OTA update).
I'm having intermittent problems (txts being sent to the wrong people, phone rebooting, etc.), so I'd like to flash to a different firmware.
I'd prefer to install the official OTA update, but it doesn't let me since I'm already on that version.
I've searched for ways to downgrade, but I don't see this situation specifically.
How do I downgrade, or how do I upgrade to something like ice cream or 2.3.5/6?
Any help would be appreciated! Yes, I will click the thank you button per the noob video
If you're unlocked, just flash a fruit cake from the deb section. Easy as pie.

NO OTA's!!?!?!
OTA have a locked bootloader and will brick you use fruitcake or just grab the /system and faux's froyo kernel and flash that
I would suggest upgrading and not downgrading. If you don't use Webtop then try one of these ROMS:
Neutrino: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398819
This is by far the fastest and most lightweight ROM available. Webtop isn't supported on it. But it's very nice, customizable, and has very nice tweaks!
Miui: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383721
Also a great ROM and highly themeable. It's built from stock so there isn't any Motorola additions to it! It's blur free, quick, and great!
Instructions to install any ROM:
1. Download ROM and place on internal storage (10gb).
2. Download ROM Racers Recovery and flash to phone.
3. Download FFW and run it.
4. Boot into CWM (Android Recovery) and Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Davlink Cache.
5. Install ROM from internal SD.
5. Wipe Cache and reboot!
Hi,
How I can downgrade cm7 from cm9? Normally wipe data&cache and then flash cm7? i haven't backup.
thank you
It depends on which version you're running, if you're using the gingerbread kernel with cm9 then you can't downgrade until you get the froyo kernel. anyway let's assume you have froyo running then a simple full wipe and choose the ROM you want and flash. if you have the gingerbread kernel just full wipe choose the ROM and flash it like before, but you have one more step find the zip with the froyo kernel and flash it right after the ROM.
If you can't be bothered with all the just use a full sbf and start clean from rsdlight.

So I've flashed between ROM's a few times now, but never updated a ROM that I am already running. Was curious if I have to do a full wipe before the update like switching between different ROMs, or can just flash the newer version over the older version? If I don't have to do a full wipe, do I still need to wipe the cache and Dalvik? Thanks!
Cache and dalvik.

should i do this before or after flashing the rom, updating from PA 2.99 b8 to b9. thanks
Before.
All ROMs have threads, those threads have op's, they are usually full of the info you need. Each rom is different and requires a different approach.
