Hey everyone. I have been thinking about rooting for some time now but I have not been able to find a way to root that uses a Mac computer. I do not have access to a PC and so I have been hoping that there are some directions out there for how to do it on a mac that I am not aware of. Anyone who might be able to help please respond.
Thanks.

Seriously? Spend 10 more seconds around the forum and you'd find exactly what you're looking for. Always look before you post.
But here you go: http://unrevoked.com/#inc
I have also been thinking about rooting my phone and I only have a mac. I know about unrevoked but that seems to be down while they are fixing it. are there any other ways to root the incredible running 2.2?
There isn't. Wait until Unrevoked is back up.
*Looks around wondering how he used his MacBook to root, install Unrevoked Forever, and install SkyRaider*
Whatever.
Trying to root my epic on my mac and cant seem to find anything that really seems to work, I am really starting to doubt my own intelligence at this point and really don't want to screw up my new phone....any help or a rooting for morons walkthrough would be helpful, thanks so, so much!
you could always run windows virtualized on your mac and do it that way
Try this thread.

it worked, thank you so much, i dont know why i couldnt find that before, thanks a lot!
You could have also used an app called z4root.
You are welcome. It can be difficult to find info in the forum but that is the link I used to root my epic back in April and I had the linked stored so it was easy to send it your way.
Z4root works if you just want root but if you want to install custom roms you need clockwork. The link I have allows you to root and instal clockwork.

Hey i have literally browsed the forums and google for hours and hours...
.. and everything I found either didn't work or was too complicated for me.
Is there a simple way to root my atrix on osx?
I don't want to have to buy windows xp and use up hard drive space just for bootcamp just for this...
thanks.
If you are still running the original 1.26 firmware, you can use this method. I do not believe that this works on 1.57 or 1.83 though and the thread hasn't been updated in about a month so my guess would be that it does not.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006368
Best way to root 1.83 at the moment is to use GingerBreak. I believe that you can get adb for OSX, and if so you can push Gingerbreak to your phone and root it.

This is what I used. Worked great for 1.5.7, running into a few problems with 1.8.3, but we'll see what happens... http://forum.androidcentral.com/atr...976-root-1-5-7-mac-linux-updated-1-8-3-a.html
I adbed gingerbreak for mac on 4.1.83 and it worked just fine. Adbing on a mac is a tad different. I used youtube.

hello im wondering if there is a way to root the atrix 4g 2.3.4 without a computer. I have tried other sites but they dont give me the right solution so if and of you can it would be great.
I don't think so. I think I read somewhere they got a "1-click" method working but it still requires a computer.

EDIT:
This is what I read. Can anyone confirm this?

To my knowledge, there is no un-tethered root program. You have to be able to remote access the phone's internal memory.
You can easily root your ATRIX running Gingerbread, but without out a computer is tough.

If you dont have CWM - no.
If you have CWM - there's a CWM root file somewhere around the forums, it worked for me
Im posting this here because I've tried posting in other root forums and have no such luck and I've seen other people comment on this too. My question is does anyone know how to bypass the "failed to initialize protocol" error message in heimdall for mac or is there a better alternative to rooting as of this point? I've tried typing the commands into terminal and nothing has worked, I don't even has Kies installed on my computer. Any help or anyone that could point me in the right direction for rooting on a Mac would be helpful. I know there are plenty of us out there looking for a solution for our inferior computers
You can have your Mac dual boot
Or install something like parallels desktop and have Odin on that
My personal preference is to keep a cheap windows laptop for odin

Unless something has been released in the last couple of days heimdall does not support the s3 yet. I had to find a pc with windows to root using odin.
bj | SGH-I747M | Rogers | Rooted | ICS | CWR
yeah, most of us, including me, have not been able to successfully root the US version of the s3 using any verison of heimdall.
trust me ive tried EVERYTHING. downgrading to older versions, messing with the .kext files, trying to install thru terminal, trying the terminal fix to fix the issue with kies. Ive done everything.
I either get failed to initialise protocol, or claiming interface failed. Were going to have to wait for the makers of heimdall to update it.
For now, like most have said, the only alternative is to find a windows machine you can do it on. Ive yet to do it tho.
I found a versions of Odin that had been wine wrapped to work with mac but I wasn't able to obtain the proper gs3 usb drivers to take advantage it

lol i tried that route too
Does anyone have a link to the winewrapped Odin for Mac?
Bump
I'm also having issues with Heimdal, and have no access to a good working Windows PC.

i think were pretty much screwed til heimdall adds support for the US versions of the s3. There was a guy in one of the stickies that got it to work, but he was unable to help with the issue we are having.
Yeah - Heimdall still doesn't support the U.S. S3's, but it does support the international.
The developer is working on it. (<- thank 'em)
I thought I could wait a few weeks for Heimdall compatibility before rooting, but I was weak and "needed" AdAway, TiBu, tether, general modding, etc... so I connected my S3 to a filthy dirty Windoze box w/ Odin to root it. Back to linux now... phew!
^ haha, made me laugh. I'm gonna sit tight till Heimdall gets working.

Yup, I had to go to good old TPB and got Parallels and Windows 7 to root my GS3 with Odin.
how did he do it
how is it possible that this guy got an AT&T i747 rooted using heimdall on the mac, then?
youtube: ?v=5XMxNG01EO4
I, like most of you, have tried EVERYTHING, and I can't figure out how this video show a sucessful root using these methods, when the rest of us are stopped with the failed to initialise protocol error..

Man you got my hopes up lol but check the comments it seems like everybody is still having problems trying to root in heimdall. Even those who tried the terminal commands in the thread.
For right now the best way is like everyone else has been saying wait for heimdall to update or dual boot and use odin

Thinking about doing this myself - did you run into any problems/irregularities? It seems a bit rash to not just wait for a real solution, but after two and a half years of no ads on my phone, I keep finding myself saying "what the f*ck is this ad doing here on this shiny new phone?!" hah. Spoiled I guess.
BTW I'm new here - hi all.
Cheers

Hm. Good to know. I'll be waiting a bit longer then I guess. Thanks.
I went ahead and went to a friends house to root. Hope heimdall gets updated soon
