i have a mytouch 4g that i had perma rooted with s off 0.85.2007 clockwork recovery and evil desire hd rom. I have had this setup since the evil rom was available with no problems at all. All of a sudden the phone is in a bootloop. I can get into the hboot but adb and fastboot will not recognize the phone. I had a spare mytouch so I switched to that perma rooted s off and 0.85.2007with clockwork and the newest version of the same rom with no problems at all. I let the older 4g sit for a day with no battery, sim or sd card then i put the sd card in and it booted up. I went thru rom manager and selected reboot to recovery and I am back to a bootloop. I have tried to to go thru the hboot and select recovery manually and as soon as i press power to select back to a bootloop. I did some reading and tried to go back to the pd15img file by placing the file on a formatted sd card using a card reader and then put it in the phone. It went thru the process bypasing #7 and #8 (they show TP next to them) the phone now shows S-on with 0.86.0000 with radio 26.03.02.26_m. I am still stuck in bootloop with no way to get to recovery and still not being reconized in adb.
I guess at this point I could just do an exchange on the phone since I do have the other 4g running with no issues. But was wondering if anyone had any ideas on getting the phone out of bootloop.
Sorry if its a little wordy just wanted to make sure that I listed the steps i took to help narrow it down.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Load the PD15IMG on your MyTouch4G (not 5G) and boot into Bootloader, the phone will ask if you want to update the system, press the up volume button to do so.

Try reformatting the SD Card to entirely FAT32 and try again.
or since you can get into fastboot try flashing a Recovery image, then boot into HBoot then select recovery and flash a ROM. Try using Cyanogen CM6.1.2RC2.

ok tried formatting the sdcard and placing the file on the card. It went thru the process and bypassed the same two files and still in a bootloop.
I am able to get to the fastboot on the phone however adb and fastboot will not recognize the device.

yes the drivers are there. adb recognizes my spare 4g and just to test it out i adb pushed a file and was successful.
anybody have any ideas or suggestions?
What about flashing with fastboot? You don't need a working Android OS, only a working bootloader, a USB cable, and the sdk tools.

Thanks for the help.
I have the sdk installed and it is working properly on my other 4g however when i boot into fastboot it does not detect the 4g that loops but i can unplug the bad one and plug the good one in and it recognizes immediately and allows me to use both adb and fastboot.

I've been reading up about what to do after I tried to "factory reset" my phone and then was stuck at the htc start up soon, which kept looping.
I've been trying to load recovery.img during fastboot (back+power) and then to apply update.zip during recovery (home+power).
However, the problem is that during fastboot, the device isn't recognized (when I go to adb devices on command prompt, no device is listed). I know that my drivers are good bc the device is found when I start up in the recovery mode. I tried to skip the part where I load recovery.img (since when I try to do that, it tells me that it can't be loaded), and to go straight to apply update.zip, but then the phone tells me that update.zip is either bad or can't be mounted.
I have a Rogers Magic (32A). I am a complete newbie, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I should also say that before I tried to do the factor reset, the phone was on the hero rom loaded by a previous user.
try this:
boot in recovery:
fastboot boot recovery.img
then, push update.zip on your sd card ( need a good rom in the tools folder on your computer)
adb shell mount /sdcard
adb push update.zip /sdcard
and apply update.zip with the recovery menu.
thanks for your reply, but it didn't work:
first, it said "cannot load recovery.img"
and then when I tried to mount, it said "mount: mounting dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: Device or resource busy"
replace recovery to correct path to your recovery image. (your phone mut be in fastboot mode power with back button pressed)
ex:
fastboot boot c:\sdk\tools\recovery-RAv1.2.1G.img
then your phone must boot on recovery and you could push update.zip
thanks so much. I figued it out - just a simple problem of the update.zip file being corrupt.

Hi. My magic is having the same issues. Although I believe it is my own doing. I was going to create a gold card and I flashed the sappimg.zip, I can boot the phone into fastboot but it us not seen, when I run the fast boot command it just says waiting on device..
I can boot the phone up normally but it does not want to connect to the market our link my gmail account to it..
All to jailbreak... Any ideas?
Edit....
I must have had a poor internet connection last night. I have got the market working.

I am having the same problem.
I have a 32b on vodafone uk.
all the device adb drivers have installed fine. I have tried this on both my laptop and desktop (win 7) and when the phone is turned on - it shows fine under adb devices.
When i boot to fastboot, the phone doesnt show, and therefore i cannot load a custom rom.
Trying to root the phone I have so far used the goldcard method to downgrade to get back to 1.5, if i try to flash the recovery img from the phone (using flash rec) then when i boot to recovery (home+power) it hangs on the vodafone screen - this is why i wont to flash from fastboot.
any ideas?
Thanks
phone rooted?
FlashRec is out of date, I'm pretty sure. Is your phone rooted already, or are you at stock?
Just got myself an N1 and now having problems with boot loop with/without Sim on.would flashing it with a custom Rom fix the problem? Please help!

New to android, and was stuck in a boot loop recently.
Yes, flashing a custom rom worked. First you need to unlock the phone and get root.
Then you need Android SDK installed on your PC, and adb drivers.
Then within the SDK/tools folder, is fastboot.exe
I did fastboot flashed a recovery.zip, and then using Volume down and Power on, with the touchpad pressed too, accessed Bootloader, then scrolled into recovery,
and flashed the Cyanogenmod.zip that was copied on to my microSD card (you might need to do this via an microsd reader on your pc at this point),
and boom.
custom rom, and boot loop over.

Another scenario to consider:
I encountered an infinite boot loop once when my battery went bad. In this case the Nexus one won't power on when unplugged, but an infinite boot loop will occur when it is plugged in and powered on.
Hope that helps.

Thanks A lot!!!!
I was almost about to give up on this, ive been flashing windows mobile for quite some time now but Android is a totally new thing for me.It wasnt this hard for me on putting android on my HD2 lol.
You're welcome. Glad I could help
It seems I bricked my Desire Z. That'll teach me for messing with custom roms
I only get the bootloader (the white screen with coloured text). Everything I do from there either does nothing or just goes to a white screen with a green HTC logo and then hangs.
I tried flashing Cyanogenmod by renaming the zip pc10img.zip, this failed. I tried installing an official G2 rom from the SD, this also failed. When I turn the thing on I get a green HTC logo, when I try to go to recovery it's the same story.
Can anyone help me get my phone back to life?
When you get in to recovery are you getting any error messages?
Have you tried restoring a nandroid backup or trying a different sd card?
And re-naming a rom to PC10IMG.zip will never work
I don't get an error message, it just hangs at the HTC logo. Same when I reboot the phone.
I don't have a backup since the last time I tried using one, it didn't work. Besides, I don't have Clockwork so I wouldn't be able to restore it even if I had one

You cant get in to clockwork. have you tried using adb?
Not yet. Is it possible to flash a rom or even just clockwork through adb?
I'm sorry for being such a n00b about this, I'm just not that experienced yet with android devices. Used to change roms on my WinMo device all the time but Android's... quite different
If you have the ENG Hboot you can flash the recovery from fastboot....
If you have the sdk set up on your computer do the command (after putting the clockwork recovery in your sdk folder):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then go to the recovery, wipe and flash
I now have the issue that ADB won't see the phone. The phone says HBOOT USB PLUG so it knows it's connected through USB, it shows up in my device manager but ADB won't recognise it. Any suggestions?
adb won't work in hboot/fastboot mode, you need to get the fastboot executable.
It might be in your tools folder for adb.
You can make sure its working by running 'fastboot devices'

Thanks! Fastboot detects the device Now I can try to fix stuff.
It worked! I managed to install Clockwork Recovery using Fastboot and after that installing Cyanogenmod was a piece of cake Thanks you guys!
The most important thing I learned from playing with roms is how to read the manual. Be careful out there.

Ahem, guys, where can I find fastboot executable? I checked everywhere in the android-sdk directory but I can't find it. I even updated to the latest SDK tools, and yet fastboot is still MIA.
Always and I mean ALWAYS create backups of your working roms, I cannot stress this enough.
You can copy files onto your sdcard using adb then force boot into cwm. Thank goodness for adb

Hey Guys,
My SGS died on me so I've send it back for repair. Now temporary using a HTC Hero (gsm).
I tried to root the device using this guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
However, Z4 had some trouble rooting the phone. I thought it was a good idea to reboot the device and try it again.
Now it won't boot. It will only vibrate, show me the hero screen and then it will show me a RED Triangle with an explanation mark.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?
I've only come across this when trying to load into the recovery.
The issue I had was when I was on the stock rom. I could root the phone and boot into recovery. The phone would turn on fine but if I tried to boot into recovery after the initial boot it wouldn't boot. The stock rom resets root permissions every time it boots up.
I don't know if this helps at all..

No it didn't . I'm having this on regular boot.
I tried to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543571
to see if I could push a recoveryimg. But no luck.
"downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow)"
EDIT: After doing some research I'm possible to get into 2E recovery. Can anyone provide a link to an update.zip which could restore my phone in working condition?
A little more info:
S-ON
HBOOT 1.76.0007
Radio 6.35.15.11
Boots, Shows "HERO" screen, vibrates and reboots, then show red triangle.
Pressing Vol+ & power brings up 2E recovery.
So I can only get into 2E recovery or HBOOT/FASTBOOT. Unable to boot the phone any other way.
EDIT: Tried flashing heroimg.zip using HBOOT, but i get an "CID incorrect"
EDIT2: RESOLVED!!!!
Extracted rom.zip from RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoD . Renamed to heroimg.zip put on SDCARD and applied using HBOOT. This resolved the issue.
I managed to solve this issue by removing the SD card, it then booted normally.

1. Just double click the .exe file to start the install...
2. Minimize it.
3. Search your c:\ drive for "rom.zip".
4. You will find it in a temporary folder. Copy and paste it somewhere else.
5. Rename to heroimg.zip
6. Copy to your SD card
7. Press the power+back button to get in bootloader mode.
8. Choose HBoot
9. Press the thanks button ;-)
sorry, can't find the thanks button (to few posts?), but thanks again.
unfortunately hboot says there is no image or wrong (it happens very fast)
sdcard is goldcard, rom.zip from RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver
tried also other RUU versions.

edit: I stupid idot, the sdcard was fat not fat32!

bootloader etc has been updated, but my hero boot only in safemode.
seems to be a hardware issue.
time to say good by my hero
So I successfully downgraded back to Froyo. I followed the Rooting process exactly, mdr #'s 2 and 3 matched. I entered the reboot command, and now my phone only vibrates 3-4 times when you turn it on. the led keeps flashing. and nothing is happening with the screen. I cant get it to the bootloader screen either
is it being recognized through adb?

I can now get into the bootloader and Clockwork. but now it just gets stuck on the Clockwork mod loading screen when i update .zip file from sd. I tried the factory reset, nothing. It shows S-Off though lol. Is there any info that I can give you guys from the menus I have available in order to help decode what I did wrong/what went wrong?
Try this...Take the original 2.3.4 update and put it in your sd card.(assuming your pc detects the sd card). Take the battery out if the phone for about 10 min. try to boot into hboot and reflash the phone back to stock. Then redowngrade and root again.
Sorry if I'm not too much help. I'm learning from what I read here and there.

Hey Mike, I am having the same issue with my phone I tried the adb reboot recovery command in adb but the phone just reboots. I wanna know how did you boot into clockworkmod recovery or the bootloader. Please help me out I am trying to fix my phone. thanks
clockwork is "adb reboot recovery"
bootloader is "adb reboot bootloader"
you can only do this stuff if the device is recognized. If it just reboots when you do reboot recovery, you probably don't have it flashed correctly or don't have the right bootloader

Download PD15IMG.ZIP here, copy and paste on the root of your SD card. Don't forget to rename the files to PD15IMG.zip before you copy them to the SD Card, otherwise it won't work
Turn off your phone.(you should have enough battery charge)
Press POWER and VOL DOWN simultaneously (this will bring your boot loader)
It will automatically install the PD15IMG.ZIP, need to confirm some actions.
Wait till the process is done....
If you did not encountered any error such as FAIL- PU, you can open your phone normally and start setting it up...
