[Q] Bricked my Desire Z - G2 and Desire Z General

It seems I bricked my Desire Z. That'll teach me for messing with custom roms
I only get the bootloader (the white screen with coloured text). Everything I do from there either does nothing or just goes to a white screen with a green HTC logo and then hangs.
I tried flashing Cyanogenmod by renaming the zip pc10img.zip, this failed. I tried installing an official G2 rom from the SD, this also failed. When I turn the thing on I get a green HTC logo, when I try to go to recovery it's the same story.
Can anyone help me get my phone back to life?

When you get in to recovery are you getting any error messages?
Have you tried restoring a nandroid backup or trying a different sd card?
And re-naming a rom to PC10IMG.zip will never work

I don't get an error message, it just hangs at the HTC logo. Same when I reboot the phone.
I don't have a backup since the last time I tried using one, it didn't work. Besides, I don't have Clockwork so I wouldn't be able to restore it even if I had one

You cant get in to clockwork. have you tried using adb?

Not yet. Is it possible to flash a rom or even just clockwork through adb?
I'm sorry for being such a n00b about this, I'm just not that experienced yet with android devices. Used to change roms on my WinMo device all the time but Android's... quite different

If you have the ENG Hboot you can flash the recovery from fastboot....
If you have the sdk set up on your computer do the command (after putting the clockwork recovery in your sdk folder):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then go to the recovery, wipe and flash

I now have the issue that ADB won't see the phone. The phone says HBOOT USB PLUG so it knows it's connected through USB, it shows up in my device manager but ADB won't recognise it. Any suggestions?

adb won't work in hboot/fastboot mode, you need to get the fastboot executable.
It might be in your tools folder for adb.
You can make sure its working by running 'fastboot devices'

Thanks! Fastboot detects the device Now I can try to fix stuff.

It worked! I managed to install Clockwork Recovery using Fastboot and after that installing Cyanogenmod was a piece of cake Thanks you guys!

The most important thing I learned from playing with roms is how to read the manual. Be careful out there.

Ahem, guys, where can I find fastboot executable? I checked everywhere in the android-sdk directory but I can't find it. I even updated to the latest SDK tools, and yet fastboot is still MIA.

Always and I mean ALWAYS create backups of your working roms, I cannot stress this enough.
You can copy files onto your sdcard using adb then force boot into cwm. Thank goodness for adb

No device found ONLY during fastboot - help needed please

I've been reading up about what to do after I tried to "factory reset" my phone and then was stuck at the htc start up soon, which kept looping.
I've been trying to load recovery.img during fastboot (back+power) and then to apply update.zip during recovery (home+power).
However, the problem is that during fastboot, the device isn't recognized (when I go to adb devices on command prompt, no device is listed). I know that my drivers are good bc the device is found when I start up in the recovery mode. I tried to skip the part where I load recovery.img (since when I try to do that, it tells me that it can't be loaded), and to go straight to apply update.zip, but then the phone tells me that update.zip is either bad or can't be mounted.
I have a Rogers Magic (32A). I am a complete newbie, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I should also say that before I tried to do the factor reset, the phone was on the hero rom loaded by a previous user.
try this:
boot in recovery:
fastboot boot recovery.img
then, push update.zip on your sd card ( need a good rom in the tools folder on your computer)
adb shell mount /sdcard
adb push update.zip /sdcard
and apply update.zip with the recovery menu.
thanks for your reply, but it didn't work:
first, it said "cannot load recovery.img"
and then when I tried to mount, it said "mount: mounting dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: Device or resource busy"
replace recovery to correct path to your recovery image. (your phone mut be in fastboot mode power with back button pressed)
ex:
fastboot boot c:\sdk\tools\recovery-RAv1.2.1G.img
then your phone must boot on recovery and you could push update.zip
thanks so much. I figued it out - just a simple problem of the update.zip file being corrupt.

Hi. My magic is having the same issues. Although I believe it is my own doing. I was going to create a gold card and I flashed the sappimg.zip, I can boot the phone into fastboot but it us not seen, when I run the fast boot command it just says waiting on device..
I can boot the phone up normally but it does not want to connect to the market our link my gmail account to it..
All to jailbreak... Any ideas?
Edit....
I must have had a poor internet connection last night. I have got the market working.

I am having the same problem.
I have a 32b on vodafone uk.
all the device adb drivers have installed fine. I have tried this on both my laptop and desktop (win 7) and when the phone is turned on - it shows fine under adb devices.
When i boot to fastboot, the phone doesnt show, and therefore i cannot load a custom rom.
Trying to root the phone I have so far used the goldcard method to downgrade to get back to 1.5, if i try to flash the recovery img from the phone (using flash rec) then when i boot to recovery (home+power) it hangs on the vodafone screen - this is why i wont to flash from fastboot.
any ideas?
Thanks
phone rooted?
FlashRec is out of date, I'm pretty sure. Is your phone rooted already, or are you at stock?

When in fastboot, check what SPL/bootloader version you have. That tells us what we can do. Likely (if it's 004), then you can simply
fastboot boot AmonRARecovery1.7.0.1.img (or whatever you call it) and get your recovery image booted. From there, flash a ROM, and reflash recovery using the adb command "adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img" after putting recovery on there.
Check bootloader version first though

what do i type in termainal
i was using modaco custom firmware but would ideal like to get it back as standard uk orange!!
Right, get a recovery image, and try to fastboot it, and just see if it works.
If you don't see the spl though, then I think you have a hardware issue.
You could also try an RUU.
hi i have a nandroid backup of the phone in fastboot i can flash the boot.img the data.img but when i try flshing the system.img it says remote data length is too long

Flashboot or recovery?

Hello everybody!
Sorry to be the noob, but one must start somewhere before being a decent user!
I give you quickly the background: First I flashed the phone with the European version rom with flashboot in it.
Then I installed Froyo by Ankuch and Quarx through flashboot
And after this I installed Gingerbread by Mur4ik thanks to the exe made by eoghan2t7 in flashboot mode.
I read many times about clockwork recovery, however I do not have the impression to have came accross a specific version of the firmware such as the European version rom. Would it be by any chance included in Cyanogene Android by Mur4ik? I don't think so unfortunately!
Other question: What is best, recovery or flashboot? Apparently recovery is safer, and it would not be a bad thing given my computer savviness level ahah!
Thanks in advance!
Nevermind, I figured it out, if somebody needs help and I can be useful I would be more than happy to explain how I did it despite my weak level in computers.
Or I can explain it here for you, Fastboot is apparently more easier, if you had a usb connector from your phone to comp, because, you're gonna connect it to the PC anyway, so why not just do it on the comp?

Thank you AntonJrL for your support! Now I thing I got it though.
The line between fastboot and recovery was blurry for me, I thought it was a different firmware than the one I installed for fastboot.
Now I figured out that the recovery mod was inside the pack with the 2.3.3 rom and I flashed it on my phone. Now I can reboot in recovery mod so I will have to worry less about bricking my phone
Jasper580, do you want the file for flashing recovery in your phone?
Hi, i prefer fastboot because is easier. You just have to download the ROM in your puter then plug your phone in fastboot mode, copy the .img files into /tools folder then open the cmd type few codes and voila you have flashed your phone.
cheers!
I too prefer fastboot over recovery,
I've never had a problem with fastboot but in recovery I get MD5 mismatch.

so i will try it the next week .... and i hope i will not crash my phone

back2topic:
i've done both ways, via recovery mod at my first time with swiftdroid 1.8.
If you restart your phone in recovery mod or fastboot, it's not much difference, at recovery you do it with your phone, at fastboot via pc.
But i prefer fastboot, i just have to run a bat file and it puts all on my phone.
i use fastboot but i dont like it, ive bricked my phone a few times with it.
recovery is very easy! and not need a computer with full driver

Recovery Doesn't delete files or apps.
Fastboot Does But theres a way to make it not to delete which I didn't Try yet.
Fastboot VS Recovery
Fastboot is easy but i needs the computer everytime you want to change ROM.
Recovery on the other hand also needs your computer to install clockwork however once installed you have the convenience of changing your ROM as often and anywhere you like as long as you have the .zip file on your SD card.
can anybody tell me from where i can get clockwork mod image which can i use with rom manager.

Did I brick it?

So I successfully downgraded back to Froyo. I followed the Rooting process exactly, mdr #'s 2 and 3 matched. I entered the reboot command, and now my phone only vibrates 3-4 times when you turn it on. the led keeps flashing. and nothing is happening with the screen. I cant get it to the bootloader screen either

I can now get into the bootloader and Clockwork. but now it just gets stuck on the Clockwork mod loading screen when i update .zip file from sd. I tried the factory reset, nothing. It shows S-Off though lol. Is there any info that I can give you guys from the menus I have available in order to help decode what I did wrong/what went wrong?
Try this...Take the original 2.3.4 update and put it in your sd card.(assuming your pc detects the sd card). Take the battery out if the phone for about 10 min. try to boot into hboot and reflash the phone back to stock. Then redowngrade and root again.
Sorry if I'm not too much help. I'm learning from what I read here and there.

Hey Mike, I am having the same issue with my phone I tried the adb reboot recovery command in adb but the phone just reboots. I wanna know how did you boot into clockworkmod recovery or the bootloader. Please help me out I am trying to fix my phone. thanks
clockwork is "adb reboot recovery"
bootloader is "adb reboot bootloader"
you can only do this stuff if the device is recognized. If it just reboots when you do reboot recovery, you probably don't have it flashed correctly or don't have the right bootloader

Download PD15IMG.ZIP here, copy and paste on the root of your SD card. Don't forget to rename the files to PD15IMG.zip before you copy them to the SD Card, otherwise it won't work
Turn off your phone.(you should have enough battery charge)
Press POWER and VOL DOWN simultaneously (this will bring your boot loader)
It will automatically install the PD15IMG.ZIP, need to confirm some actions.
Wait till the process is done....
If you did not encountered any error such as FAIL- PU, you can open your phone normally and start setting it up...

Phones in a bit of a state

Hey guys,
Yesterday I tried, after a few months of not modding my phone, to update my recovery as i was running a very old version of TWRP. Long story short I did something wrong somewhere and my phone has ended up in a bit of a weird state.
At the moment the OS is BlissRom, however it fails to boot. The loading screen runs very slowly and never actually boots the OS. The current recovery is the stock recovery.
The thing that is giving me an issue is the fact that somehow the bootloader has locked, so I am unable to flash a new OS onto my phone. I'm not able to flash anything onto my phone as it throws an error telling me the phone is locked.
Overall I aren't able to boot into the OS, however I have access to the stock recovery and fastboot. Unfortunately it looks as though the bootloader has locked some how.
Any ideas how I can fix this, or have I completely messed my phone up?
Thanks in advance.
Hi
U said u were running twrp before which means u have unlocked bootloader and flash roms already.
How did u end up with stock recovery?
Also is it phone being detected bycur PC?
Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk
I believe it was a result of running the QualComm restoration tool. I ran this and it didn't look as though it did anything however after i rebooted into recovery I found it was stock.
I'm not sure if using this tool also re locked the bootloader however as it appears to be locked and I cant flash anything in fastboot mode.

Indeed I have, I get an error saying "phone is locked".
I think the resolution will be running the restoration tool fully but i cant seem to get it to do anything. It just sits there with no progress bars appearing.
Have you ever had any experience with this tool?
No I never used recovery tools.
Can u at any point let's say u boot into recovery and connect the device to PC, will it detected the internal storage?
Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk
Unfortunately not, if I boot the OS it gets stuck at the loading animation, it isn't a bootloop oddly enough.
Booting in recovery the PC doesn't detect the internal storage, however if I choose "Update from USB" I can see that ADB detects my phone in sideload mode.
Much like in fastboot mode I can see my PC detects my phone in fastboot mode.
I do have some OS zips on the internal storage which I have tried flashing in stock recovery, however these always result in "Install failed" errors.
Dude i think you have to use recovery tool now
Here is the link first read carefully https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...ck-guide-for-a-hard-bricked-oneplus-2.347607/
Thanks for the link buddy.
I've gone through this thread, I think the issue preventing this from working for me is the fact that although I have installed the relevant drivers, when I plug my phone into my PC the drivers assigned to it are "Android Bootloader Interface". When I try to target another driver, using the Update driver functionality it just refuses to change, saying the driver already assigned is the newer one.
Any ideas how I can get around this? I know ideally it should appear as Qualcomm 9008. I've tried all the methods in the "How to Make the device show as Qualcomm 9008" section without any success.

-Reboot to recovery and select install from usb.
-Flash the OxygenOS on OnePlus 2 by typing:
