woooooooohooooooooo

Hopefully not "Months"
It is that "next few months" thing that drives me a little nuts.
For those who are wondering why the version number does not appear to be different, it looks like MS only changed the version number in a couple of core .DLL's (ZuneWmdu.dll and ZuneWmduResources.dll) to 4.7.1407 Not sure why the overall software did not get a dot-rev but there it is.
Performance seems to be better on start-up and WiFi Sync, but I've not really done any back-to-back testing...

Windows Mobile 6.5 next month!

"Software giant Microsoft is apparently getting ready to drop its trousers and unveil its assets at the Mobile World Congress event at Barcelona next month. "
"Microsoft is also expected to unveil Windows Mobile 6.5 with the new UI at the Mobile World Congress. "
XPERIA will get the upgrade i am sure!
Hurrah - "new UI" hopefully more easy to use!
This post does not help anybody for some reasons:
1) You did not state the source of your informtion
2) Most people may already have known this
3) this is only speculation (anyway I am expecting the announcment soon too)
4) no one knows what to expect from WM6.5 except Skynet...
sorry, i hope to not offend you but thats what came up in my mind...
It will be interesting to see if Xperia actually gets the update to WM6.5, but I'm not so sure. One can only hope... In any case, surely the developers at XDA will cook something up
Here: http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=2485
Nothing has been said about a new XPERIA. SE haven't announced its new partner yet and previous reports state that the new XPERIA should be unveiled late 2009...
Comeradealexi - Thanks for letting us well me know as it means I've got something to google now on my lunch break.
here it is if you don't want to click
"Neowin, quoting unnamed sources close to Microsoft, is claiming Mobile World Congress (February 16-19th), will not only be bringing Windows Mobile 6.5, but also a slew of Microsoft services rumoured previously to the Windows Mobile platform.
“SkyBox” is a service for users to sync a phones information with the web. Microsoft will be offering automatic backup and restore services, access and management of phone data and provide easy communication and sharing with others. The service will also allow syncing of contacts, email/SMS, calendar items and pictures into the cloud. Neowin adds a new detail, not rumoured previously, that this service will be available not only on Windows Mobile, but also for other phone OS’s.
“SkyLine” will be aimed at small businesses. Offering similar functionality to SkyBox, businesses will be able to setup their phones with Microsoft’s Exchange hosting with their own domain names.
“SkyMarket” is Microsoft’s mobile marketplace, a competitor to Apple’s AppStore and RIM’s Blackberry application center.
Neowin also claims that their sources confirm the leaked screenshots from earlier this year are in fact real, despite being panned for having icons stolen from the Apple OSX desktop, and that they represent design concepts.
Looks like we do have quite a bit to look forward to in a months time after all."
so make of that what you will

All joking aside, I am looking forward to any updates made to Windows Mobile Professional. Standard got a real nice interface boost with 6.1, and we didn't get squat in the "looks" department.

I've been running Windows 7 for about 2 weeks now, and I'm with you 100%. I'm not running it as my full time OS, but it is definitely running better than Vista did in beta/pre-SP1.
yeah - they've done it right with windows 7 - they'll have done it right with mobile 6.5/7
It seems somewhat likely that the X1 will get the update as we haven't heard a word from sony about any software updates whatsoever. What's the use of the software update utility if no updates are made? Maybe they haven't released anything because they have to wait until 6.5 is announced.

More likely, since they've parted ways with HTC, they've abandoned updating the Xperia X1, so not only will we not see Windows Mobile 6.5, we won't even get any firmware updates, like the retarded problem where turning off WIFI also turns of Bluetooth at the same time, or where Bluetooth keeps turning off by itself (workaround is Mortscript, but why do we need workarounds?!), etc. etc.
The HTC Touch HD has ALREADY had 2 or 3 updates, and it was released later than the Xperia X1. Where are the Xperia updates? NONE. NADA. ZIP.
I have an Xperia X1 but I'm starting to feel mighty bad here... I'm not feeling any love from HTC or SE and I doubt (and I hope I'm wrong) that we will see any updates, ever, for our machines.

Xperia X2 software support schedule

I saw this link over at gsmarena.com which lead me here: http://xperiancers.com/2010/02/02/x...&utm_campaign=Feed:+Xperiancers+(Xperiancers)
Xperia X2 software support schedule
// February 2nd, 2010 // X2, X2 News
As the X2 begins to roll out globally, it’s only fair that customers know what kind of support we’ll be giving the phone in the months to come. It’s not news to say that we attracted some criticism for this on the X1 and we’re not going to go there again with the X2. So, for the record, this is what X2 customers can expect in terms of software upgrades.
In March, we’ll launch our first upgrade (MR1). It will upgrade Windows Mobile from 6.5.1 to 6.5.2 (which will improve both the stability and usability of the device), it will bring in the use of video telephony, an FM radio and it will introduce fast GPS to get a quicker fix. As well as all this, MR1 will upgrade a lot of the applications in the phone to improve speed, usability and fix any bugs we find.
The second update will go live in May and this will be a big one as it moves Windows mobile onto 6.5.3. This is a significant upgrade in terms of usability, performance, power management and the browser experience.
That’s the extent of our plans at the moment but I’ll update this post as we make any more decisions.
(ps. Before anyone asks, no it won’t ever go onto Windows Mobile 7, it won’t support the hardware.)

Is it possible to update my x2 through online once the update is launched? Thanks
yes it should be through the sony update service since they are official updates.. you can download the update software from sony ericssons website. im sure someone will post on here when they become available. or just randomly try and update your phone every few days during march until something happens...

Fear not, it's a stable process.
Of course you can install Java,

lol all i meant was you just connect to the update software every few days and see if it tells you if theres an update available. if theres no update then nothing happens. even if there is a newer update you still have the option to stop before anything happens.
remember to always make sure everything important is backed up before starting an update.
its a shame that sony dont have something on their website to inform people when a new update is out. would save having to connect to the update software to check. or even if they let us register and then they could email or text us...

Official firmware DG07 pushed out in Korea via Kies

http://blog.naver.com/sounghwa777?Redirect=Log&logNo=30089829334
Improved sound quality on Bluetooth headsets, something about Call/Reception improvements, also something about path initialization problem thats meanless to me.
No mention of GPS fixes :-( although there's plenty of Koreans who are hopping mad about the GPS issues, and no doubt our American cousins will soon be joining in to complain.
EDIT: Also says available RAM increased, Flash Lite support added for web browsing and volume keys can be used for digital zoom.

Afaik android can't use more ram in eclair version so in my opinion its just visual improvement.

I'm a Mac user too, and it's pretty irritating having to dig out a Windows laptop to run Kies (I really can't be bothered with something like VMware on OS X)
It's one reason I haven't got around to flashing a newer unofficial ROM, even though I've d/l all the bits and pieces ....

*sigh* That old bull**** again...
The Korean firmware might have lacked the firmware fix to support more than 256 MB RAM that *ALL* european (and presumably American variants) Galaxy S already has. There are also other ways to make more RAM available on any operating system...

Well, I disagree with Jobs on many of his iPhone policies (that is why I got an Android phone), but Apple still builds the best OS around. I mean, they are the only company that provide an out of box working, usable and affordable Unix boxes. Linux has still waaaay to go, but I admit that latest Ubuntu looks very promising. And btw, the iOS, despite it obvious limitations is still way more polished that the Android is. And I would welcome some moderation to the Android Marketplace, because I am really sick of all the dorks with no programming experience who publish their countless buggy apps.
Anyway, on topic: I am really sick about the Samsung "we don't support Macs" policy. On the other hand, I am glad that I don't have to install that absolutely preposterous Kies software at my computer. I am lucky to have access to a Windows box, where I just installed the drivers and then I use Odin.
Over here we can get it updated at the nearest samsung service center if need be.

Froyo around the corner:-)

http://www.amobil.no/artikler/android_2_2_til_galaxy_s_rett_rundt_hjornet/78810
This was an artical on a norwegian mobile site
This summer, it was said that Android 2.2 version of the Galaxy S probably would get an official version in September. September is known as the passed, but the update is now just around the corner.
- We have estimated the deployment in mid-October, and hopefully the update will reach users during the next week, "said Stig Ove Langø, major account manager in Samsung Norway.
Your phone is much faster
Android OS 2.2, also called Froyo, is a major update. Some of the highlights:
The browser has been quicker to load sites with Javascrip
Applications will load two to five times faster that everything does not have to be before you start, but it all happen on the way
Processor performance of the phone in general should be better
Memory handling must be very much faster.
Exchange support is greatly improved
The phone can function as Wi-Fi router
In addition, there are a lot of other things that have changed when it comes to user interface. The full list can look at the Android development page.
Great

Ah, that's good news. amobil.no are usually more dependable than any operator. So this might just be the right deal...
it depends where the corner is...
i think is near too.
Samsung just tweeted this:

We’re very sorry about the delay with the release of Froyo. We're working on it round the clock & will post an update as soon as we have one
They like to tweet something like that every other week to make us think it's nearby. All we can do is wait.
hey tweeted that on the 8th i believe, and probably re-tweeted it again
i hope to god its just round the corner, im not moaning believe me, i moaned a hell of alot more with my hero and the delays for 2.1
GPS best be fixed, as no matter what rom i have flashed, it takes an age to lock on, and when it does at best im about 100 metres away from where i actually am
The filesystem is shocking also
all in all though, i love the music player, samsung always get that bit right
that gps problems is a hardware problem some guy who sended his phone back got a new antenna(different material) in it and then it worked fine! its with the first batch of phones. i got a phone that came with jm2 instead of fp3 from when i got it right out of the box and my phone is good and acurate on gps quick fix and very accurate 5-10 meters
Its a software problem with the GPS. i get 5-10 meters accuracy too. But when i slow down everything went jumping around... locking is not a problem for me. Its only that it cant rly lock me to one place. So i guess its a software problem
yea its jumping a little i just noticed in a gps monitoring program but it keeps locked on (rarely they go all gray for a sec but then its back again)(gives no problems in actual navigation) here and while driving and navigating in car with sygic mobile maps it never looses track

FroYo better be good or I'm selling and getting WP7. Although I was against it from the start its shaping up to better than Android.
I love Android but its not polished as an OS yet. It really isn't. Samsung's AWFUL software department doesn't help either.

So because Android still has a few quirks to sort out and needs some polish here and there, you're considering jumping to a spanking new, "fully rewritten" platform?
Among the features that are not yet present are cut, copy, and paste, full multitasking
[...]
Support for removable SD cards and tethering have also been left out of the OS. Microsoft claims this to be in the interest of data security for enterprise users. Windows Phone 7 will also not support Silverlight in the web browser or IPsec virtual private network (VPN) security, videocalling, a system-wide file manager, Bluetooth file transfers, and music player equalizers.

Based on last year's event, I would say very little, if any, discussion or demonstration of the future of Windows Phone OS will be shown at BUILD. They might turn around and surprise us with a preview of the SDK changes for developers. Or show a short preview of some new features, but with the leaks we've seen thus far, I doubt there's even a chance that anything impressive is ready to be shown.
