First of all I'm very much n00b at flashing ROM or using Odin or anything else so please help in simple language .
I decided to flash my ROM , i have rooted my device using z4root and with ROM manager has installed "Superuser". And followed these steps
1.I used the tool for checking that my tab can be flashed or not and didn't got any errors.
2.I downloaded MoDaCo ROM , got ROM Manager and followed all steps stated on thread.
3.Out of curiosity , and lack of knowledge i selected ClockworkMod Recovery for 'Samsung galaxyTab T-Mobile' .
4.partitioned SD card with ROM manager (not knowing what it may do , and still don't know what has happened ).
5.Rebooted and found all apps r gone , hunted apk's and installed default apps.
6.Pasted .zip file in SD card , selected "install from SD card" option in ROM manager and selected '.zip' file that I downloaded , it asked for backup and wiping option selected them both and pressed 'OK'.
7.Device rebooted in recovery mode it started to make a backup then , it started looking for sd card . It came like "SD card cannot b mounted(device may be busy)" , after a countdown of 20s it rebooted .
8.No change happened and now I decided doing it manually.
9.Change ROM name to 'update.zip' and rebooted in recovery mode , deleted cache and selected install from sd card using update.zip
10.It stared with an android robo and exclamation mark , I tried again and it showed a box with arrow icon like opening , it got stuck and i rebooted.
11.It appears like device has undergone factory reset , w/o any error or malfunction.
I want to flash a new ROM , couldn't find a detailed guide or video or anything else so decided to ask here.
My SG Tab is unlocked and from India. Please help and guide if I've gone through wrong step or am missing something.
Hi
I have an Indian Tab which I recently flashed to Roto JMI v2. Its amazing when compared to the stock rom we get with the Tab.
Read up the following threads in order to understand the method & get the essential files required for flashing to Roto JMI v2:
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939360
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895827
In case you have any queries do ask them. Will be glad to help. And make sure you take a backup of your apps using Titanium Backup.
Cheers!
Thank's a lot , will try and reply soon

That's strange. I am guessing its a network problem. I just used my Aircel pocket internet gprs data plan to browse, so it definitely is working.
Make sure settings-->wireless & network-->mobile networks-->data packet is TICKED. Give it a reboot too.
Cheers!
Have been itching to try out a custom ROM for myself too! Would you say the performance on Roto's JMI v2 is significantly better than on stock ROM ?

Congo! Enjoy your tab!
Cheers!
Does this ROM fix the browser lag issue? On stock, the default browser is, frankly speaking, useless! Dolphin HD/Mini does fix the issue though scrolling is still not as smooth as that on iPad. Any inputs?
IPad :s. . There is a workaround I found for getting smooth scrolling like ipad.
"uninstall flash".
And yeah flashing has increased efficiency of stock browser and I'vent xperienced lagg till now

Ohk! Will try it out later today! And also will try to flash Roto's ROM if I get some time on Saturday
Could some one for benefit of Indian Tab Owners, write a step-by-step instructions or guide. Lot of information to digest for a new user including details of 1) rooting 2) installing recovery 3) flashing ... this information would be great useful for everyone.

Ok Fellas! just got my phone last night, rooted it installed the stock froyo JK4.
I come from htc desire so my recovery was bit different installed rom manager & got cloworkmod 2.5.1.2.
Downloaded a rom on phone, rebooted into recovery, but this recovery has purplish text instead of green & there is no install from SD. I cant think of any thing at the moment can some one please help, I wanna install some other rom, other than the stock froyo. PLEASE HELP.
You need to install clockwork revory if you go to the rom manager application there will be an option to flash clock recovery right at the top when you open the application hope this claers things up
yep i did sir, but still there is no option to install from sd, it only allows me to install as update.
from teh rom manager im selecting Galaxy S I9000 for clockwork recovery and it successfully downloads and when i press reboot into recovery its still takes me to the purple screen....i think this means that im not able to get into clockwork recovery any help.??
you have to select 'install update.zip' the first time, this will install clockworkmod and then you can proceed.
The problem is your using 3e recovery and cwm will not work with 3e.
To get 2e recovery you will have to use odin and flash a kernel that has 2e recovery, I suggest hardcores kernal as it comes with cwm already , from there you can install what ever custom rom you want using.the update.zip or installing zip from sd.

the best way to get clockwork working on i9000m (personally i believe)
is to flash the kernel for Speedmod... you should see it in development forum... just flash that kernel with odin
and your recovery will work fine

Hey man thanks alot, do you mind pasting a link here. If you kindly can please and thanks again.

There are a few things i could suggest.
1. Keep your flashing to a minimum if you have the i9000m. There is a high probability that your phone's memory card is defective and you'll ruin it by accessing it more often. Froyo broke lots of bell phones, and being a rom junky means more flash activity. I am on my second phone, but some people are up to their fifth. Flash a good stable rom and dont go too crazy flashing after that
2. download ODIN, and most 3rd party kernels have 2e i think (http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-download-speedmod.html) - pretty sure speedmod does. voodoo also does, all kernels can be found in the dev section easily
Just make sure you download the ODIN version of the kernel and not the CWM file, because since you dont have CWM already, you'll not be able to use it.
There is a problem with USB mounting your sd cards on your pc without patching, since you are running a stock 2.2, so you would need the patch unless you go to a 2.2.1 rom
3. 2.2.1 runs nicer than 2.2, but i havent flashed to a JPY because i am paranoid about my second i9000m dying before i get a backup phone . You may want to flash a jpy mod (like doc rambone's, or darky's), but if you have battery life problems flash a different modem, like the JK4 modem used in bell's latest official rom

Oh crap! really, i think imma sell this phone rite away then, cus coming fro desire im a rom junky. I guess this aint the rite phone from me.
Yeah, there are massive known problems with internal memory on these phones. I'm already on my second, and if i have more issues, i'll be buying the international i9000 from ncix.com. same phone, no internal memory problems.
Im coming from honeyvillian rom 1.04 and installed recovery via Acer Iconia recovery app on market and in recovery it shows cwm 1.3.4 and I follow a method format data, wipe cache and dalvik cache and battery stats and flash the galaxy virtous rom. And downloaded diffrent uploads like multiupload, megaupload, rapidshare, depositfiles. All show same file size which is 336 mb but megaupload file is 357 mb and flashed all with all diffrent methods and also tried the youtube tutorial available on the first page. Can anyone please help me out here. I want this rom to go smooth but all it do is hangs within a minute I turnon my tablet. To setup only I have to restart thrice. Any help will be apreciated. And yes I have read 111 pages on that forum and cudnt find any solution. Thank you
try flashing a different rom first, like the new stock or virtuous picasso....once you got it working, then reflash virtous galaxy again....
You could also try wiping, then shutdown not reboot, go back to cwm, rewipe, shutdown, then go back to cwm to reboot....
tried this as well!
Thank you for your time and help. I tried but same problem again. Im not having any problem with the stock 3.0 or honeyvillian roms. Is it because im trying a port like galaxy any diffrent radio or kernel need to flash seprately. Or can anyone provide a correct md5 for this file virtous galaxy rom. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Have you updated your recovery? That happened to me with the original recovery once I updated it, no problem what so ever. Just be careful I bricked my tablet updating CMW I was able to fix it thanks to sc2k just read all instructions lol think I probably missed something.
Anyway good luck man and you have to try the galaxy rom.

Can you be more specific, like how to do that? And when to do that after rom flash or before. I am new to all this and now you make me feel I should ask you what is the full procedure to flash, baby step by step? Can you help!
I am thinking that your problem(s) are kernel related...
Galaxy rom are different kernel and being 99% stock samsung...etc
Villain only used Stock modified kernel and Galaxy used Virtuous v? ...etc
try going back to a stock rom that are provided in various threads... that should set you back to completely stock ( kernel, firmware, stock recovery...etc )
then proceed from there by ( rooting with Iconiaroot... installing CWM via Acer recovery Installer..)
well... you know the rest of the steps
I suspect now that Shinger is back, hopefully he'll have something to help you out with his "favorite girlfriend" Virtuous Galaxy. Hang in there!
Hmm strange issue and i am thinking it maybe due to honeyvillain being official 3.1 rom from acer. Base is different. I would suggest going back to 3.0.1 then root using gingerbreak(locked in potrait mode) and then install cwm via acer recovery app. Download quickboot from market to reboot into recovery and start again. Honeyvillains kernel sources are different than ones used by mdj in unity me thinks. Thats why thor made different kernel for galaxy rom and honeyvillain. Hoped you backed up 3.0.1 as i did lol. Always a good starting point if things go bad. There is a thread with instructions too

Hi All, am now using ICS 4.0.3 with no problems (bar a bit more battery use of course)
This is what *I* personally chose to do, based on what I'd read so far, on my stock 2.3.6 handset, to minimise hassle and risk;
Downloaded and renamed ZD3PyN0t.zip to update.zip
Full system wipe including the SDcard, rebooted, then copied update.zip to the SD
Switched off and booted to recovery mode, wiped cache just for completeness.
Rebooted again into recovery mode. Selected update.zip
Applied the update, then when finished, went back to recovery mode and wiped cache and factory reset again.
So far - Wireless works fine, phone works fine, 3g settings detected automatically from the SIM and works fine, very nice interface.

Hi Roshan, first of all I'm not really sure - so hop on google and do some searching - but I did also come across that file and avoided it as It was 1) supposed to be for Tmobile only and 2) smaller than the file I and others have used referenced above. So maybe that's some kind of incremental update.

*********************************************
CM10 is now available.
Requirements: Root
From rooted stock or a custom rom, just download and install updated Rom Manager from the Play Store and download CM10 Nightly and GAPPS. Reboot into ClockWorkMod, factory wipe, disable signature check, flash CM10 twice. The first time partitions our tabs and reboots. Flashing a second time is for good measure. Then flash GAPPS. Done.
Note: I am not sure if Rom Manager can flash ClockworkMod directly. I personally updated from ICS > CM10 by downloading CM10 and GAPPS through GooManager and flashing manually in ClockWorkMod.
Its been reported that you can go directly from rooted stock to CM10. I've actually completed everything below to get to ICS first (Stock > ICS > CM10 JB).
CM10 is a much better experience. The tab works much better, doesn't freak out, lasts longer, plays better.
*********************************************
Wow. Lots of different, confusing, and scattered information about how to go from stock Gingerbread to the latest CM9 build. It is all very confusing and honestly most of the useful information isn't even on this site. So I figured I would help myself (and others) in creating a very detailed walkthrough of the process required to successfully get from GB to CM9 Build 7.
**This specifically outlines the methods to take a COMPLETELY STOCK Sprint Galaxy Tab 7" SPH-P100, unrooted, to a ICE CREAM SANDWICH rom. I "think" it might also work for the Verizon CDMA and a few others. I think the ROM itself is a general overall generic build for all 7" Gtabs. So heads up that if you have a different version, you might want to use this as a guide rather then a step-by-step.**
BACKUP EVERYTHING YOU MAY NEED BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THIS PROCESS WILL FORMAT YOUR GALAXY TAB
GET CONNECTED!
We need to download Heimdall's App and his Drivers (Main URL). This is the first confusing steps as everyone suggests using an older version, but the included drivers don't work on newer Windows OS's. So you have to mix and match a few different versions to get it working. I've already compiled an archive with everything you need: Heimhall Mixture /w zImage & ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.7
1. Extract everything to a simple folder [ex. C:\GTABICS ]
2. Turn off Gtab. Hold VolDown+Power until you get to a downloading screen
3. C:\GTABICS\Drivers\zadiag.exe to load drivers [try running as Administrator]
4. C:\GTABICS\heimdall-frontend.exe to start the process
5. Kind of confusing. Focus on the "BROWSE" buttons. Look for "Kernel(zImage)" on the left and "Recovery" on the right. Hit browse for each one and select the appropriate file from C:\GTABICS. Obviously "Kernel(zImage)" = "zImage" and "Recovery" = "recovery.bin".
6. Make sure Kernel(zImage) and Recovery both have files selected and a checked box. While GTAB is at the black Downloading screen: Hit "START".
7. The process is pretty fast. Don't rush. At this point your tab will probably just bootloop anyway.
LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD
Now you have ClockWorkMod installed and a proper kernel, most flashers will feel really at ease right now. But there are a few little quirks that will cause this to go bad. You have to install 2 versions of ICS to get to the latest; One using the existing partition table, and a second that will update to a newer format. You obviously have to install GAPPS like always with a CM rom, but not so fast, you have to manually "MOUNT /SYSTEM" in CWM before it will even take. And there is the fact that you have to manually open and edit the CM9 Build7 update and remove code....[holy crap].
But it is pretty easy once you go through it once.
REQUIRED FILES
JT1136 CM9 V5
JT1136 CM9 V7 UPDATE
GAPPS
Prepare CM9 v7 Update
1. On your PC, open "update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-galaxytab7c-KANG-BUILD7.zip" and browse to META-INF\com\google\android
2. Copy "updater-script" to your desktop and open with Notepad and remove the first 3 lines or just Download it.
3. Drag and drop the update-script back into the META-INF\com\google\android folder, overwriting the existing one.
If all goes well, you are now done with the PC.
COPY FILES AND FLASH
1. Copy Build5, the new Build7, and GAPPS to your microSD card.
2. Boot into ClockWorkMod: Power off. Hold VOLUP + POWER
3. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
4. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build5 and Flash
5. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
5.5 [OPTIONAL] You should be able to boot into ICS at this point if you want to make sure build5 flashed properly before upgrading to build7
6. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build7 and Flash
At this step, my GTab rebooted in the middle of the process the first time. It freaked me out but I assume (now) that since it changed the partition tables, it needed to reset. So I did it a second time just to be safe:
7. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build7 and Flash
8. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
Congrats. You should have a working bootable CM9 build. But lets flash GAPPS so we have our Google services. This is tricky.
9. Mounts and Storage > Mount /System
10. Flash zip from SDCard: locate GAPPS and Flash.
11. Finally [!] reset device and prepare for boot.
Now you are on the latest CM9 build [7] and have the latest GAPPS installed. Hopefully you are booting now and see the famous ICS Boot Animation. Have fun. In the future you should be able to simply download new roms as they are available and flash normally like you would any other device.
RECAP:
Drivers and Flash Tool

Convert to Sprint
The above procedure will set your Tab as a Verizon version. If you plan on using the Sprint cellular service or just want everything to match, then flash this via ClockWorkMod.

I didn't do any development work. All credit goes to Heimdall for his fantastic Recovery Flasher and jt1136 for his great stills porting this awesome rom over to our Galaxy Tabs. All I did was bump and grind my way through to see a successful working flash. I figured if I didn't post a walkthrough here, I would hate myself in 6 months when I boink something up and have to do this all over again. I would recommend you keeping all of the files safe somewhere to prevent this headache again.

i have been thinking about moving up to ICS with my sprint sph-p100
just not sure if i should jump now or wait till more things are working ?
do the things working out number those not , is it ready to be a daily driver yet?
Camera fully works but is flaky sometimes. Video out isn't working yet but he's working on it.
Other then that, its golden. Very fast and works well. Really worth it. Feels much better... like an actual tablet vs a large phone.
Iffy Camera and video out aren't worth holding back. One of the benefits is now Wiimotes and PS3 controllers will pair up using their respective apps now.

flashed sprint Tab
Hello all,
Thanks for the files and instructions! Here is my situation/question:
I bought my Gtab off of ebay flashed to work on Boostmobile's 3G network. It works great, and had no problem with the official OTA upgrade to Gingerbread.
Now I'm dying to upgrade to ICS but am worried that this would mess with my 3G connection. I can't provide any details of what went into the flashing (its not a process I understand), but I'm hoping that someone out there will.
So, if I follow the instructions in this thread will I still be able to use my Tab with the boost 3G it connects to now?
Many, many thanks for any help with this!!
Great Thanks! The first complete step-to-step instruction for installing ICS on Sprint p100.
One note- if you have Error 12 - delete all SAMSUNG USB drivers on PC, rebut and instal drivers from first archive.
At least!!! Thanks a lot!
I don't use the cellular network (sprint) but it does come up and show signal. I don't use it as a phone or anything like some people (supposedly you can install phone.apk and make calls over a voice plan).
I just use the tab as a tab. I just wanted to confirm that it appears to see the cellular network fine.

I haven't used a patch at all and everything seems to be working. I also never heard of a patch to fix anything.

Sprint patch for what? Mind linking? No offense but posts like these without links or more information is what creates confusion.
I haven't used a patch at all and everything seems to be working. I also never heard of a patch to fix anything.

As soon as I flash version 5 I get an error that installation was aborted, what did I do wrong?

Try re-downloading the version 5 zip again. Make sure you don't edit anything within the zip before you put it on your SD card. This happened to me when I edited the version 7 zip as instructed above.
Ok. Got it working. What is the newest ver.? I'm on 4.03

I think 4.0.3 is the latest ported over. I have a Galaxy Nexus and 4.0.4 was just released... so I would expect delays in porting that over to unofficial devices.
The patch, I've found, is just cosmetic. Once you upgrade to ICS using this method, the build.prop has everything setup as a Verizon Device (name, settings, etc). They can all be manually changed but there is a patch that you can flash via ClockWorkMod that does everything for you.
The link was posted a few posts up.
What is DTI? I may just leave it as verizon since I get more signal. LOL
Hey what's up guys I just threw this on my sprint tab... I had a few quirks with it early... when I first flashed the clockwork mod on it, the screen was discombobulated... the capacitive touch orientation was in landscape mode while the actual screen was in portrait.
So when I had to put the files back on the tab after modifying build 7 zip. I had to figure how to unlock the screen and then and also to choose "connect USB to storage"
Then I got a little nervous while doing the wipe because it took long. I thought it froze..
Just a heads up of what could happen to other guys .
Also now after full install, I find that my ram is usually pretty low and my CPU usage is almost always @ 100 percent .
Taking away from the fluidity... any suggestions ?
I restored my email from titanium back up and also my browser bookmarks, now they don't open up or close immediately. This happens with a lot with system data restored things....

Whenever my tab starts it says encryption unsucessful, how can I get past this screen?
**UPDATED**
If you experience RANDOM reboots across different ROMS, and KERNELs, you've come to the right place!! You can solve this issue using the steps described below.
Apparently this is caused by some misconfiguration. Something went terribly wrong and is owning your phone randomdly... So we have to go back to stock and run the phone once to solve any issues.
(I spend a lot of time trollin' devs and other users to give me further info about it, but it ended out being a problem of my phone.) :S
So, to solve this, you'll need to flash 2 things using flashtool:
1- stock 2.1.1.A.0.6 ROM,
2- baseband: 2.1.1.A.0.6 BASEBAND 15 (IMPORTANT: choose the correct one (e15i or e15a) depending on your hardware!!!, check the label below your battery or you'll get F!-up)
download here (thanks lucastan96 for this link)
Note: The following procedure will not RE-LOCK the loader, so relax!
8 steps to glory: follow the order or you'll get served.
1. turn off the phone and format your SD card elsewhere
2. flash stock ROM
3. flash the baseband
4. turn on the phone and go through the setup once
5. turn off the phone and format the SD card elsewhere
6. copy the ROM you wish to install in your SD card
7. flash a CWM kernel and install the ROM (.zip) (make a factory reset before installing!!)
7.1. (optional) if you choose a stock rom kernel, turn off the phone and flash THE BASEBAND
8. turn on the phone and enjoy.
regards

You didn't understand, seems to me.
You have to do all this steps in order to make your phone alright and after that you can flash any ROM you wish and your random reboot problem should be solved.

Facepalm* You didn't read the instructions correctly.
First you flash everything stock; hopefully fixing the random reboots and then:
"7. copy the ROM you wish to install in your SD card"
in your case; MiniCM 3.0.0

Top Tip:
*Next time, try not to be so rash and avoid embarrassment.
Mhhh ... I did everything! But it did not work
I also have problem with random reboots on minicm7 (purple LED and then reset).
Anyone can confirm if it works?
@slake84: Almost 100% sure that's a Custom Kernel BUG.
This thread is for those having RANDOM REBOOTS/crashes using different ROMS AND KERNELS.
Thanks mate, it works :good:
