[Q] why wont the sd builds for me with magldr - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

so i tried almost all the builds for magldr and a couple that i found zimage or intrd files for and nothing works.
Well the superRam froyo worked once after 4 tries and never worked again.
I even task 29'd my phone and installed a fresh magldr 1.3.
they are all booting to the htc screen or equivalent and staying there.
for some reason some of them wont even drag to my sd card. I waited over an hour on one of them and it was only half way with no progression.
the last one i tried was skinnyevo and it took over an hour to load onto my sdcard. then when it was done, niether my phone or my computer would recognize my card. only thing that would read it is easeus partition manager through mass storage in magldr.
Are some of the files corrupt or what. does anyone else have problems like these.
I want to have wp7 and an android build able to boot. wp7 for show mostly.
and i cant let my phone win. it really erks me.
I even loaded an android nand recovery through cw and tried to drag my files over using that.
I also tried to drag them to the fat32 partitioned half of my sdcard with wp7 on it, and nothing.

You shouldn't use magldr mass storage to transfer files... it's known to corrupt the files. Take card out and use card reader.
Also, most sd android builds need a modified init.rc file to work with magldr. There's a thread about it in the android sd section. I have most builds working good, so if there's a specific build you want, pm me and I'll see if I have it work and send you my copy.
I don't think you can use clockwork recovery when you have wp7 on NAND... clockwork is only for nand android. There are threads in the sd android section about dual-booting and getting sd builds to work with magldr. There are also a few recent builds that will work as is with magldr.

I was actually using either android or CW to transfer files. Ive never had any issues with them. my sdcard reader is broken.
I was able to erase and reformat my card so its working again.
I might give it a try again. Hopefully my head doesnt explode.
Are there any Builds that are known to have a high success rate for magldr.
Oh and by init.rc did you meen initrd.gz thats the only custom file ive downloaded and seen in the android folders. Maybe i have the wrong ones.
Maybe ill try with my 4g card. its the same brand though.

The same has happened to me, various NAND build corrupted my data on card and once I tried to use that card in a reader the reader then broke and didnt work on any cards or any systems. Thsi has happened to 3 now.

I have most sd builds working great with magldr... pm me with what builds you'd like if you want to try one of my edited builds. I've edited and gotten most of the sd builds from dec til now to work fine.

[Q] MAGLDR SD freezes on boot.

It's a problem, I've tried with different builds and SD cards with the same result, it boots to the system but right when the lockscreen shows up it freezes. Solutions?
cotulla said in the magldr thread, "the build on the sd card also has to be a "nand" build" reason being is that the current sd builds are looking for things left in ram (drivers) that aren't there.. Hope this clears this up..

Anyone know how to install a NAND version to the SD?!
You can't .. wait for chefs to build a SD version compliant with magldr

I Think
Theory # 1
I think it may be doable via Flash.cfg
We just have to figure out exactly how it can be done.
------
Theory # 2
I think we can use a NAND kernel on SD build to make it boot?
I will give the kernel thing a try - MDJ9.1 working very well on Gauner's HD Rom (sorry Gauner, but your kernel was quite choppy even after I had left it to sync).
i have the same question. i dont know how to solve the problem
stuck with the same issue, installed a nand version before backing up contents from my sd build, which is unbootable now.
My only hope is to uninstall nand (by putting a windows rom), then boot back into my sd android to backup settings?
update:
i put back on the fly the OzDroid, booted back to my SD android, but it was corrupted, upon boot it complained about different system UID, and i got too many FC on too many apps, and i am unable to backup anything useful
starting over.....

Can this be done for UBUNTU?
I had renamed ubuntu-hd2-0.3 files initrd.gz and zImage and also tried using initrd.gz from DFT_anrdoid and with same's flash.cfg layout and playing around GOT UBUNTU UP TO KEYBOARD/MOUSE (but no touch).
How can this be done to Nand?
What is proper way to do ubuntu you think?
What SHOULD files be named and which zImage/initrd.gz shoulw work?
Thanks.
You can now boot sd roms from sd using magldr
You just need to modify one line in init.rc as detailed here:

You will likely need linux or at least a live cd of linux to do it.

[Q] SD Card and NAND MAGLDR

Hi Guys I have a few questions.
I have flashed Magloader and one of the features is to boot ROMS from SD.
Well I can't boot any ROMS they all hang on the loading animation towards the end.
Originally I was not aware of the Panasonic formatter so I just did full format in W7 to FAT32 which has worked flawless in WM65.
So I then formated the card with the panasonic formatter but did not tick erase so just full format but it did take about 2 hours.
Then copied my data back accross.
RE tested and still the same issue.
All ROMS boot fine with WM65 but since I copied data back 1 ROM will now not boot with WM65 either.
I have a 32GB Card not sure of class I paid £55 for it so guessing its high up there ?
The card is not partitioned at all so full 32gb.
Any suggestions ?
If not I am thinking of going back to WM65 because I got like 4 - 7 drian on that which is acceptable for me and more space for apps.
You cant boot standrd SD card builds with magldr yet. You can only boot SD cards builds that are designed for magldr. The only current ones are designed for haret.exe on windows.
There is work going on to make magldr support startup.txt so in future it will also boot the standrd ones.
Thanks for clearing that up for me !!!!
So guess problem sloved !

WP7 NAND HD2 + Android Boot From SD ?

Hi,
Interested to see if this is possible, Simply because MAGDLR 1.12 has the SD Android boot option BUT NAND flashing of WP7 rom does something ? to the SD card, pretty much leaving the SD card useless unless formatted back to Winmo/Android, BUT the second catch is, if the card is formatted back AFTER WP7 flash, WP7 on HD2, then WP7 doesn't work properly ... A catch 22. Anyway around this, or maybe something I'm missing ?
Working
I got both of them dual booting and working great so far...
1) Do an AD hard reset from MAGLDR boot menu
2) Flash windows nand rom (dont boot)
3)Boot into MAGLDR and connect as USB mass storage
4)Format SD card
5)Put an SD android build onto sd card
6)Go into services, bootsettings, set sd dir to android folder
7)I personally set it to show menu on boot so I could choose which one to boot
7)Reboot in MAGLDR and choose boot ad sd
8) Setup android
9) Reboot and choose WPH
10) setup WP7
Good LUCK!
What about using the SD card still? How much storage do you have when you boot into Android?
EDIT: I tried but when it boots into Android, the whole build is frozen

Correct me if I am wrong, but this leaves only internal storage for WP7. I have a telstra t9193 with 512 or so mb internal. Once it is synced with my exchange and emails, I can't even load a song from zune on my hd2 as there is no space left.
Guess the tmobile hd2 has more space left for apps etc.
I am trying to find a way to resize the wp7 sd card partition but this does not seem easy.
I need a dual partition for my sd card. One for wp7 and one for Android. Unfortunately wp7 seems to take all the sd card except for 200 mb which is too small for an android build.
If anyone has a solution, I would appreciate.
Thanks
It doesn't work. He's just lying.
I attempted those steps and and soon as you setup WP7, the Android folder is all gone.
You have 200mb space which isn't space for a proper Android build. Maybe if we find a hack to increase this size to at least 1 gig then we should be able to do it.

That's what I got too. I even tried putting separate partitions on the sd card (ie. linux swap) to try to fool wp7 into deleting only the fat 32 one but it also did not work.
I have resulted to using 2 sd cards, one for wp7 and one for android. I have to make a holster for them so that I may swap them at will
EDIT: THE CURRENT SD ANDROID BUILDS DO NOT YET WORK WITH WP7 ON NAND - THEY LOAD BUT FREEZE AFTER THE LOCK SCREEN AND ALL YOU GET IS THE WHITE HTC SCREEN.

What works well for holding an extra sd card is to cut a microsd sized piece of foam out of the middle of the foam on the inside of the back cover. If you cut it right so it kinda hugs the sides of of the microsd, it will hold it in place well so you don't have to worry about it falling out when you take the back off.

It pretty much says never use the sd card with wp7 in the first place, however then it can never be used giving very little storage. Also I don't believe that there are any magldr compatible sd builds on xda, though I could be wrong...
Im booting up WP7 without the need for SD card.. Everythings seems working like normal..
And no partition on my SD card.. (My SD card is still clean but still can run..)
Uhh.... Is this normal....? Does this mean I can just copy DL's 2.2 SD Android onto my SD card?
wp7 and android
hi guys if you create two partitions on a 16gb sd card you will have two cards one for wp7 and one for android
how come it says that we need an sd card to run WP7 but you guys says ur running it on the same device with no problems without one. If that was the case then whats with all the insturctions on partitions and things. Also how do you run a Android sd rom from MAGLDR so that I canrun Android on my sd and WP7 On NAND. Thanks

[Request]Dual boot WP7/Android NAND and Android SD (Only one working SD rom)

I'm making this thread here because I can't see anything being done to remedy this problem.
I have tried more than 5 roms that I have used in the past in SD era with MAGLDR 1.12 in the option "AD SD" and none worked. This SHOULD be easy, but it's not.
I have tried to change kernels for the new ones, thinking this would be the right way to do so, since the old ones expected haret and windows to work. This didn't work too.
To name a few...
NexusHD2-FRG83D V1.8 from Tytung (the best in the old days for a clean froyo, IMHO)
MDJ Desire HD 4.6
Topia HD and others...
None of them worked, the ONLY ONE that worked was [DL DesireZ v2.1][SD/NAND] (note, not tested version 2.2, ONLY 2.1)
It took a looong time to boot, but worked fine.
Now that we have WP7 (not everyone will want this permanently) we should have SD roms that are compatible with MAGLDR. Even because MAGLDR is way faster than waiting for WM 6.5 to boot.
I loved WM 6.5 in the days, but now, several of us don't want to deal with it anymore, and are just here for the two new OSs.
I would like to see some development in the SD ROMs again, so they can have newer and better kernels (the ones used with MAGLDR) and full compatibility with future development for MAGLDR and NAND.
We could even have two Android builds, for those who don't want WP7.
One for NAND and one for SD, like a Gingerbread and a stabler Froyo
Anyone agree with it?
Greetings, Santroph.

Problem:
Phone7 formats the sd card in an unknown file format.
That makes it presumably impossible to linux to load from there...
You would have to switch sd card

What about having 3 partitions on SD ? 2 for WP7 and 1 for Android ...

Yeah I know about this, but several of us, myself included have several SD cards.
I can pass for the trouble of changing SD cards from time to time to boot a completly different OS, with several other possibilities.
And I was talking about Android NAND / Android SD combinations as well.
Like I said we could have a Gingerbread experimental in nand, but keep a really stable Froyo in SD as our main build, or the other way around, a lot of us have big enough cards to do that.
Santroph.
I'm tested lot android SD too.

The problem is that we only have a few SD roms working. And for example DL DesireZ v2.1 works, but DL DesireZ v2.2, which is newer and just lauched, doesn't work, the support is gone
And we don't have as much roms as we had to choose in the past. I am trying to use WP7, to see if it is a viable alternative to my daily use, but I don't want to give up Android. Since we can't have WP7 and AD Nand at the same time, SD is the only alternative, and we have to get whatever is working instead of a lot of good builds like we have in Nand now.
If the devs start to make more sd builds closer to the Nand ones (same kernels and modules, which they can do now, since they will all be using the same hardware startup MAGLDR) we would have a lot of alternatives too.
Like I said, one of the best roms we ever had, tytung NexusHD2 froyo, doesn't work.
Santroph.
P.S: I'm willing to help any dev that need help. I'm a developer too, but a software one, not a cooker
I'm not a dev but I try to get it ...I took 4GB sd and booted wp7, connect sd via usb reader to pc, copied the wp7 filesystem to my 16gb sd card...wp7 says I got 3.5GB disk space ^^...means: wp7 uses 3.5GB, 11,5GB free sd space . formatted other partition as fat32, but windows7 didn't find it. I succeed to flash WP7 rom without SD card inserted. Inserting back the SD card after installation shows that SD storge with full size(not under WP7) and SD android rom (DL DesireZ v2.1) works fine with MAGLDR 1.12. Booting WP7 again will not destroy it, too. This may be a temporary method, while the free space left in WP7 becomes around 130MB which may not satisfy many demands .

Can you please make a kind of Tutorial?
I understood what you said, and I can probably replicate it (surely will try) but some people would be really glad to have a tutorial.
I have a single problem with your approach, my biggest card, the 16gb one, was the one used for WP7, so I will have to reformat, and since I already got my WP7 working with marketplace and activated, I don't want to mess with it.
If I only had used the 8gb or 2gb card, I would be able to do it....
Santroph.
The best way to know how to do this, would be to have a HD2 that has not a fully working copy of WP7, so we can test it as much as we can.
The biggest problem for me now, is that I don't have how to make a backup of my WP7 installation, or else I would do it and make a tutorial on how to use the dual boot.
Even with the option of using only one card, the SD rom version must be compatible, which in the present time, they are not (most of them).

You said you formatted your SD card, but did you repartition it? When WP7 is installed it consumes all but 200 MB of your SD card so if you try to reformat it, you will only have 200 MB free unless you repartition it.
Did you say you tried other SD cards? Also, are you running Android from the SD card via Haret from Windows Mobile? Or, are you running a NAND Android ROM?

Did you say you tried other SD cards? Also, are you running Android from the SD card via Haret from Windows Mobile? Or, are you running a NAND Android ROM?

1- Sure i repartitioned it at full size... wipe de partition, and format a new primary partition in fat32.
2- Android SD via Haret.
Thanks
Do you have Android SDK installed, so that you can run logcat and see what's happening?

Nope, don´t know how
Dont think it´s a problem with the Android SD builds, I tryed some diferent and the problem keeps there...
The problem must be with WP7, but now all is the same as before but Android don´t boot and I need Android but don´t want to but NAND on it right away because I like WINMO still...
Please help, I´m not the only one with this problem...
I get a cmd, black screen and some text, the last is...
"jumping to kernel (custom)"
And them it crashes on the green HTC BOOT SCREEN.

Try Task 29 via bootloader, flash stock HTC ROM, Reformat SD card on PC and then again on WinMo. Transfer files while in WinMo on SD card or via SDcard adapter, and try booting Android again.
Did you by any chance transfer files on SD card while in Magldr if so the files may be corrupted (known issue) which may explain the problem with kernel not booting up.
Hope this helps.
Sorry for hijacking but nobody will reply in my thread and I'm becoming impatient lol. Can anybody help me?
Hey guys. I'm currently running this ROM, I've been using it for a few days and have had no problems but today, when I turned the phone off and turned it back on, it took ages to turn back on. Then when it did it all looked them same but was kept freezing etc., then up in the notification bar it said "SD Card Removed Unexpectedly" then my phone went crazy with FC's.
So I took out the battery and restarted the phone. Then, it would turn on and go to the lock screen but then it would reboot and be at a continuius* boot loop of the HTC 'Quietly Brilliant' screen.
So then I took out the battery again, this time I took out the SD card too and booted up and my phone was normal again. Obviously with no phone storage though as there was SD card in. Then after I just skipped the setup I put my SD card back in to my phone and went to the music player and all my saved songs on my SD card played. But no internal storage (I have the SD card partitioned with a 1GB Ext3 partition). Then with the SD card in knowing it still works I rebooted again, only to come back to the HTC screen again.
So basically, how can I fix this?
If I'm going to need to format my SD card is there a way I can backup what's in the Ext3 partition?
Thanks,
L.

lrbpereira - I'm the guy that posted having the same results as you in your other thread (this one seems to be getting all the action, though). Just curious, which ROM are you trying? I've been trying Warrenbread's, but I'm thinking about trying another just to give it a shot.

Hi, i´m on Dutty´s 14 PTG. I tryed Energy and the result was the same...
I think it´s someting that WP7 installed on the phone memory... Don´t know why task29 don´t resolve it... But I can´t put the Android SD working...
And it´s seams that this is a problem that isn´t only mine... you - koz - have it too...

Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear - I was curious what Android ROM you were trying to run from SD. Have you found a solution to this yet? Did you try flashing back to a stock ROM, then HSPL & then try an android rom from SD? I'm considering giving this a shot, but I haven't had the time lately.
EDIT: I resolved my issue by reformatting the SD again (I've done it multiple times & multiple ways). This way worked for me. First, back up everything you want to keep from your SD card onto your PC. Download this & install on your PC: http://download.cnet.com/Partition-...62200.html?part=dl-6285158&subj=dl&tag=button . With SD card in the phone, connect to the PC in USB mass storage mode. Start Partion Wizard and format the card to FAT32 at 32kb and as a primary drive. After that, drag-n-drop your flavor of Android onto your SD and boot it up. Hope it works for you.
EDIT 2: After getting android running, I reinstalled all my files/folders back onto the SD card, however, this broke android again (I couldn't get it to boot from SD). So I tried turning it into airplane mode while running windows mobile - and it worked. I can now boot to android from SD as long as I first turn on airplane mode. So, I don't know if the above reformatting was part of it. If someone gives this a try, it might be good to turn on airplane mode and try to boot before attempting the above formatting info. Please post results if you try it and I'll try to edit the above.
