[Q] Erratic and unresponsive touch intput! - Legend General

All of a sudden, the screen is unresponsive and responds erratic to my input. It just happened, the phone was fine while using it the whole day. No water, no drop, nothing appears wrong with the screen.
I turn it on and it works like it should...but after a couple of minutes, it starts getting crazy.
I left it on the shelf for 3 hours and now it wont hardly recognize my fingers. If I swipe left, it pulls down the notification meny. If I try to pull down the notification meny, nothing happens...what gives?
There is no water damage in or on the screen and there shouldn't be, because I'm careful with that (now). I don't drop it at all almost and never from any hight. Its only normal use and I've taken care of this better than any phone I've had.

Have you tried a reset? Even though I doubt its software related, I'm thinking the screen has cropped out on you.
Sent from my S-OFF Bell Canada HTC Legend.

Wipe a few caches, see what happens

Did backups and a factory reset.
In vanilla, the phone seemed to work as normal. It was faster than before that's for sure. BUT, it was impossible to pull the notification bar down. Everything else works and no apparent problems arose.
BUT, then I installed ADW.Launcher again and the phone flippet out. Same problems as before, unresponsive and erratic touch behaviour. Strange....
Changing to Sense stopped this, but still can't pull down the notification bar with a swipe down. I can open it with pressing "Menu" button first though.
Seems somethings wrong with the upper part of the touch screen and ADW somehow tries to use this and the touch function stalls.
I don't really thing I can send it in as a warranty, because it has 3-4 bumps in it and they will use this as an excuse not to open it. Shame...

Unroot and try for warranty methinks. Otherwise, I can't be of much more help

Touch Response Problem

I have a Sprint Touch [Vogue]. It has served me very well up until recently.
One day, I was using my phone normally when the battery died. No big deal right?
Well, I charge my phone and reboot it. For some reason, Windows is EXTREMELY slow and unresponsive. I figure that something vital had been corrupted by the battery's death, and that it was nothing that a hard reset couldn't fix.
I performed a hard reset.
I let the utilities for the first boot run to customize the phone. Everything seemed pretty much normal. I configured my settings, re-added my contacts, etc. Then I turned the screen off [with the power button].
I turn it back on later to do something. I touch the screen. It immediately and accurately detects the touch's location, but it continues detecting a touch. For 20-30 seconds, after the input has stopped.
It was strange, so I soft reset the device. It booted, with the same problem. So I performed another hard reset. I did some configuration [the response acting normal at this point], and then turned the screen off. Turning it back on brought the same problem back.
This problem still exists on my phone, even after numerous hard resets and even ROM flashes.
A better description of the problem: When the device is first turned back on [meaning brought out of standby], its touch response is messed up. It will immediately and accurately detect any touch input, but it will continue to detect the input for up to 30 seconds AFTER it has been released, as if you were holding it the whole time.
WHY is this???? My phone is almost unusable because of this!!!! I can still place/ receive calls, using the navigation buttons and the red and green buttons. But the touch response is screwed!
Can someone please shed some light on this problem I'm having?
Phone specs: Windows Mobile 6.1, HTC / Sprint customized. Minimal third party software is currently installed.
[I've already determined that third party software is not the problem, because i haven't installed any!]
Possible solution
Hi,
today I experienced something similar to your description - no touch response when I tried to pickup a call. The strange thing is that last night everything was working and no settings were modified nor programs were added/removed. The screen suddenly 'died'. At the moment I am using it through a program MyMobiler which brings the mobile display to the PC and I can use the mouse to control the phone (it is like VNC for the phone screen, the phone is connected with ActiveSync).
This is temporary solution untill I finish my backups of files, programs, settings. I didnot performed hard reset yet, hope this will solve my problem
In the following link there is a 'magical' solution - to remove the screen protector:
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/1112981/LCD+or+Touch+screen+not+working
P.S. I had removed the screen protector and voilá - the screen is now touch responsive. The root cause of the problem obviously is the dust between the screen and the protector which results in constant screen pressing - and as a result no accepting my finger presses.
I hope this will work for you and others with similar problem.
I had a similar experience with an old Vogue.....In my case, there was no battery death precursor, but it just started acting up. Not too long thereafter, I noticed the screen/digitizer was forming what looked like an air bubble between the digitizer and the LCD on one place of the screen. The screen was becoming defective. I eventually had to buy another Vogue from a friend who didn't have a clue of the 6900's potential, and didn't want his anymore, so I got it cheap.
Sounds like your screen/digitizer may be on it's last leg.

[Q] Touch screen intermittently wont work from lock screen.

I have the WP7 installed. No dual boot.
I have a password protected lock screen, and every once in awhile, the touch screen wont work, so I can't slide up and put in the password. If I hit the windows button in the middle, it kinda bounces for a second, then goes dark again.
It happened yesterday too, and the only way I fixed it was to turn it off, take out the battery and then turn it back on again.
When the touch screen works, it works fine. It's perplexing.
Anyone else have this problem?
Yes, but I only have to tap on the screen and the touch screen is working again and I can slide up the screen. Had this happen with both of the builds I've used so far.
This didn't work for me. My phone's been locked all night.
Hmm, not really sure what it could be. Check with whoever built the rom you are using, they may have a better solution. Sorry I couldn't help more.
Its a hardware problem, not software, i had the same problem the solution is to change touch screen, try to press touch near red button for same time it can help, but not for long time.
Sorry for me english)
Common problem. Your touch screen is fried (or is in the processing of frying). Start the warranty process now.
fried? dunno mate, when my touch screen goes on the blink i sweep a finger in the opersite direction to what i usually do then try again straight after, so forinstance, at the lock screen i try up and it doesnt work, so i try down then up and that usually fixes it, same for the tile screen, if it wont work as i sweepleft, i sweep right then left.
this doesnt happn on android which i would think rules out an overall hardware fault, at least for me anyway, it is however hardware related, the HD2 shouldnt have WP7, the drivers are not designed for our device so expect these odd happenings.
Of course its equally likely that this could be another sign of the pain in the arse SD card issues some of us suffer, reflash and try a new SD card and see what happens.
Man its realy problem of touch screen because it breaks in zone of red button, and when you press it some times it goes ok, and works wery well, but it die from now, replace the touch or it will die in few - weeks- days.
i would seriously get that accusation backed up by some proof before someone does something they didnt need to do.
I have random unresponsive screen issues that are directly related to the install of WP7 it does not happen on android or WM, there for its not hardware, at least in my case, its driver

[Q] Touchscreen Issue

So I'm here in the US, but I'm using the Korean SHV-E300L. About a week ago, my phone fell off my bed and cracked slightly, but the touch screen responded perfectly. However, last night while I was texting, I noticed the screen scrolled a little slower than normal, and I couldn't quite text as fast. Today everything was normal until a few hours ago, where the screen would seem to hang and not respond, and sometimes the notification panel would start to drop, but never fully descend. I went into developer options and turned on "Show touches" and it shows a persistent input in the upper left corner of the screen. Other than replacing the screen, is there anything software related that I can do about this?

Do you have a stock firmware or custom? If you have a custom try re-flashing it if you never had issues with it. The best way to go is if you are on stock firmware soft-reset your phone by holding the power button until it forces power off then turn it back on. If that doesn't fix your issue then your hardware is messed up.
The S4 screen is very sensitive and I hate it sometimes because the smallest air bubble on my device makes the screen go crazy touching all kinda stuff. Good luck!

Well I literally just rooted it after posting this because I needed to get some files. But it's the stock ROM, firmware, etc.

Also, If I just unlock the phone and let it sit, no touches register

Generic chinese head unit; touch screen sometimes unresponsive!

I would greatly appreciate your help. I have this generic Chinese made car Head unit (running android jellybean 4.2.2). I've had it for about a year and a half or so. A couple of months ago, the screen began to be unresponsive - after boot up. It is quite frustrating, as the unit itself is actually working.. but the screen just does not respond. This happens randomly! Sometimes you have to restart it several times before it works normally. And it does work normally sometimes, though there is no way to know for sure when it will work or not. So it just seems to happen randomly. Sometimes it will not work at all after several reboots. Sometimes it will just work the first time it's turned on!
. It seems to just be quite random. I tried using one of the screen calibration apps from the appstore. It seemed to make a very minor difference (or perhaps not!). The problem is still very much there.
Sometimes, while it's unresponsive, if you touch an app icon and leave the unit alone, after some time the app would eventually open - though the time it takes to do that greatly varies. At this point, the screen may then work - sometimes normally, but in many cases, abnormally or unpredictably. In some cases it will not work at all.
Please does anyone know what is responsible for this and if/how it can possibly be fixed?
One more thing I should add is that I suspect this started to happen as a result of an unsuccessful attempt to root the device. Could that be the reason... and/or is there any hope... i.e. can it possibly be fixed?
I have also done a factory restore.. but it still does this! Please help
Did you ever get any answer to this?
Best thing I would recommend would be to disassemble the unit remove the ribbon cables carefully be very careful removing the latches the plastic latches on the Zero Force connections and then make sure they're clean reinstall when it boots plays Five Fingers flat on the screen for about 10 seconds and it'll give you the touch calibration screen with four dots touch the dots from one then two then three then four then it'll give you the option automatically to save it and then let you calibrate the touchscreen hit configure start and then do each button one at a time touch the screen and then the left side touch buttons starting with power and then ending with volume down and that

Touch stop working after turning off and on the screen.

I've been using the PH-1 for a year and a half and its great, but a couple days ago i would unlock the phone via fingerprint (as ussual), it would unlock but the touch wont work, so i factory reset the phone and still the same, remove the case and the screen was loose (almost complete), but the cable was well connected on both sides so i got the screen glued, but still the same.
Im using Android Pie (from day 1) with March update (updated like a week ago), in order to use the phone beyond what Google assistant can do i have to reboot the phone (using power and volume buttons) to get the touch to work again and dont let the screen go off. Sometimes after rebooting the touch works even if i turn the screen off and on, but i think its just luck.
You guys think it might be a software issue? or hardware issue? because i don't live in the US or CA, so i would have to wait a couple weeks for the screen to get here and i would'nt be able to return it in case its not a screen malfunction.
I really don't wanna change my phone, i love the PH-1.
EDIT: i just replaced the screen with a new one from fixez.com and the problem persists, i think april's update broke something. is there something i can do to check the software? Pls help.
I rooted my phone and almost the same thing happens. I turn off the screen and turn it back on and the touch is unresponsive. Howver, ONLY the apps left on screen are unresponsive. I can still pull down from status bar its weird.
Update 1: I saw u mention fingerprinting. I removed mine and somehow it seems to have stopped. I'll use it for about another day or 2.
Update2: Well it doesn't. If my screen times out with an app open. The app is unresponsive upon waking.
