This may be a stupid question but is there anything I can do about a broken charger port? Is it better to get it fixed or buy a new phone and if anyone knows, how much does it cost to get it fixed? Thanks in advance!
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
When I broke my charger port I had sprint order me a new phone. When I went to pick it up I just asked the tech to swap cases so I could keep my orginal. Didn't wanna take the chances of getting a screwy hero. Don't know if this will work for you but a give it a try good luck.

I called my carrier which is Cellular South. They said to + ere is nothing they can't do about utah ans my warranty does not cover fixing it or replacing it. I love Cellular South but hate their warranty policy! Oh I'm up for and upgrade next month so I guess I will get hubby to charge my battery in his phone for me to have it during the day til next month. I just can't use it too much cause I need to save the battery for phone calls. Thanks so much for your help!

You could try to compare it to a friend's maybe and fix it yourself.
This might Sound Stupid... But If you have Insurance and their Playing Dirty, Claiming there's Basically a Loophole they can use to Avoid Fixing you Phone, Just Break something else on you Phone That Is Covered by Insurance!
When they Fix that, Go to your Car and Come Back Telling them you just Plugged your Phone into your Car Charger and now that Wasn't Working!! They'll Think they Did it, and You'll Probably Walk Out a Little Richer and with a Smile! Lmao!!!
Good Luck!

you can order a new shell for about $25. take it to sprint store and ask them to swap it for you and hopefully they dont check to see if you are with sprint lol.
if not, they are really easy to replace.

I love the phone but the hinge is a tad loose and there's like a little space inbetween the screen and it's backing (kind or hard to explain). My real question is, am I going to have to bend over backwards to get this replaced? Just getting the phone required me to be on the phone with t mobile and best buy multiple times to fix billing issues.

Returing for a new one after the 14 days will prob be hard. I would just call 611 tell them your phone reboots all the time and you need a new one. They will prob give you a refurb though. Personally I would wait a month or so they may work the bugs out in later models figure out how to tighten the hinge etc.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I forgot to mention that this would be within the 14 day limit. I just need to give them my receipt and the phone right? Like any other item or is it different because it's a phone?
make sure ur firm when you return it because more than likely they will tell you that its the way it was designed or some b.s. of that source. dont go in there girly and meek cuz they will play u like i play my ps3. youve been warned, now go forth on your journey
Thank you very much, now I just gotta track down what was in the box.

I returned mine today (so I could but the one at Costco for cheaper). I told him the phone reboots randomly. (It actually did do that twice, but it wasn't really bothering me) He immediately started trying to troubleshoot and I just said, "No. I want to return it."
Haha. Ya they always try and fail to change your state of mind you have when you enter the store. I would like to go get it for cheaper at costco but it was such a pain dealing with tmobile cause they effed up something on their end that required me to make multiple phone calls to remedy their skrew up. Arggg

this blows.
of all the crap going on in life right now, the one thing I could count on was my Evo. music, games, and kindle for the commute now that i take the train to my internship.
a couple of days ago I noticed the phone wasn't charging. if i just plugged in the power cord it wouldn't charge, but if i pulled it down, so that it would be at an angle, it would charge. but of course i couldn't keep it that way all night.
opened up the phone and found that the charging plug thing was coming off on at least three of the four big solder points. we just recently fixed my LCD tv with a cheap soldering kit so i figured we'd solder those points and it would work. no difference.
tried it twice and put the phone back together twice, it would turn on and finish loading but wouldnt charge.
opened it again, took out the one screw holding the pcb board to the screen, and looked around to see if there was anything that could be done from that side. i don't think my dad did anything there. i've checked since and nothing got even a scratch. put it back together.
this time the phone vibrates when i turn it on, but the screen never comes on.
opened it again, the charging plug had completely fallen off. the solder does not stick at all.
at this point, i don't care. i can buy a battery charger, and I can remove the memory card to transfer files. i'm happy with my rom so i could live not being able to directly hook up the phone and change system files.
but no screen?!!
so at this moment, for the first time since September, my Evo is out of commission and I can't do anything about it.
anyone know what may have happened here? any solutions? i'm willing to try any suggestions since i can't use the phone at the moment and I need it back.
thanks.
You likely could have had it fixed under HTC's warranty. But once they see it's been opened I believe the warranty is instantly void. You could take it in to the store and see if they will warranty it out and charge you the $35 advanced exchange fee.
Pretty much what he said lol. If you already opened the phone you have voided your warranty so sprint won't want to fix it neither will HTC. Your only two options are fix it yourself with parts off ebay. Second one is run it over with the car pay 100 to Asurion if you have TEP and they will send you a refurb and you send your old one back to them other then that you kinda screwed the pooch when you opend your phone up.
Hope you get it worked out.
i have agree since you cracked it open you screwed yourself :/
the phone hasn't had a valid warranty since last year...so I didn't mess it up.
my question here is what could have messed up the phone. not what messed up the warranty!
you can pick up and evo for between $150-200 on craigslist. just sell your broken one for parts, you would be shocked how many people would buy it.

really? this is my second HTC phone. first was 8125 and I loved it so much I lost it and bought a second one. now the Evo breaks after all this (ab)use and i'm planning on buying a second one or an Evo 3D if i can afford it when it comes out.
so, i'm pretty happy with HTC products.

Hey everyone. My epic recently took a tumble and the external speaker doesn't work...or should I say makes horrible crackling noises when there is sound going through it. My question is should I attempt to repair this myself or should I take it to a sprint store. I don't have insurance on it.

Try & go to radio shack & see if you can put insurance on it then wait a week & go to sprint store & get a new one! If they can't fix it then they give you a new phone but I still think you will have to pay around 100$ but it beats paying around 500$ for a new one this is my first phone I ever put insurance on!

I have the EXACT same problem. I don't mind fixing stuff myself, but I can't find the speaker. Are there any other places that sell them. The one you listed is only for dealers, they have a 5 per order minimum.
Like some others said if you go to an actual sprint store with a service tech they may fix it for 35 bucks. I dropped mine broke screen and the earpiece and a little sensor they fixed it all for 35 bucks no insurance. I got lucky someone was sending an epic in with all the parts I needed but it is worth a shot.

This is fraud. Do not do this.
www.cnn.cn has them if i remember right, thats where i ordered my amoled screen from and replaced it on my epic when i dropped it earlier this year.
The rumors are indeed true, we repair for $35. Hell, we even exchange for $35 so long as it's not liquid, a shattered screen (sometimes) or purely cosmetic.

mengtor.com is also a great place to order replacement parts for ANY phone.
edit - btw the antenna HAS the seaker connected to it from what im seeing. same thing happened to me a while ago and the tech told me the epic has had that happen alot, apparantly the speaker tends to blow fairly easy
I took my phone into the sprint store because it had stopped charging. The tech said the USB port was loose and he re-soldered it. A week and a half later the charging issues started happening intermittently so i took it in again. He repaired it again and said he had to "gob" solder on it to get it to stay.
Now I can't get my computer to recognize it no matter what i do and all it will do is charge. The phone doesn't even recognize it's hooked to a computer and charges like it would in the car. I'm at a loss now and don't trust these muppets with my phone any more.
So does anybody know what they screwed up? Am I going to have to get it replaced to fix this mess?
Is it under warrnty

I wouldn't even bother with it anymore. I say you take it back and make them give you a replacement. Theoretically, THEY broke it, so it shouldn't be ur issue to have to fix.
Take ur phone back and explain to them what happened: You had issues so you took it in, not once, but twice... To get it "fixed" And that immediately after the second time you took it on, your computer could no longer detect ur phone.

Should I go to a different store or the same one? I think the Samsung warranty runs out at the end of the year but I have TEP.
You gotta use a dialer code and switch from modem back to pda (I think).
I can't remember the dialer code though, anyone able to help him out?

The codes is ##8778#... although I don't believe this will fix his issue because even if the phone is in modem and not pda it should still recognize its plugged into a computer... you just can't mount the sd card as storage. Take the phone in and make them replace it

firstly, we have to cover our own mistakes, so your entitled to a replacement...
And second, we dont solder anymore? They actually made us ship back our soldering equipment nationally, and they stopped training people in it a while ago (i sure as hell dont know how to solder), so the fact that he would solder something is strange...

I'm not sure if it a corporate store or not. They have a sign that says sprint repair center so IDK. Interesting you say they not supposed to solder. Just take it back and explain the situation. I've NEVER had a problem with Sprint working/fixing/replacing my phone under TEP before.
If worse comes to worse, ask for the manager and politely explain what happened.
So I finally had fine to take it in today. The tech gave me no trouble, but said I have to wait 10 days to 2 weeks to get my new phone. :-( at least this one works, just can't root it which sucks.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Two weeks? That is crazy, I have a new one coming tomorrow, and that's only because I was a little late to make it in on Monday. Call customer care and get that expedited. Maybe it's because the old one is completely down, but still...
I'm a Sprint service tech, and I know we're not allowed to solder except as a temporary fix. If you're still having issues, take it back in and insist on a replacement. Any store that values still being open will get your phone replaced, and if you had come into my store and I treated you and your phone like this, my manager would be falling all over himself apologizing and I'd probably be sent home for the day and written up, as this is not conducive to good customer service. I work for an indirect dealer, not Sprint corporate.
Edit: Nevermind, looks like you already got it replaced. The Epic musta been on backorder because usually we get them in next day or within two days.
hey everyone, need a little help.
so my beloved evo is starting to have screen problems, with only 3 months left on my contract to go =(.
Now, here's the thing: only the backlight is not working. So if i turn on the screen, it actually is on. I can see that it is when i shine a flashlight into the screen. Everything still shows. I know its not because of a rom because i pulled the battery and it's like this on every screen, bootloader, recovery, the initial boot logo, etc.
I considered buying another phone, but given that i only have 3 months left on the contract, i figured it might be easier to just replace the broken part.
Does anyone know which part to replace in particular, or do I need to replace the whole screen? (not sure if the backlighting is part of the screen hardware).
Thanks in advance!

Thanks alot, this turned out to work better than I expected. The dude was able to replace the screen for me for $35, and did it within 10 minutes. You were right, he didnt care that it was rooted. He said it was cool what I did with it, in fact (thank the devs here!).
I also got really really lucky when I did this yesterday, cuz it just so happens that a Samsung mobile sales specialist (i think that's what his title is) was showcasing the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to the employees. He was nice enough to let me look at it as well, and I must say, it's a very very nice device. I just might upgrade to that when it comes out.

Yeah, that actually kinda does answer my original question. Technically, it is hard to look on Amazon if you don't know which part you're looking for. I only found out after the guy at the Sprint store who changed out the part for me told me that you just replace the whole screen. I initially wasnt sure if it was just simply the whole thing, or if there was a separate part for just the backlighting so that I didnt have to pay for a whole lcd screen. Also, buying a new lcd screen costs around 25$ on ebay. I paid 10 extra dollars to have it changed for me. Can't complain. The dude was done in less than 10 minutes.
Regardless, I got the phone fixed, and found my new potential upgrade phone =)
Glad you got it fixed
