Can anyone provide a simple step-by-step for installing and using Clockwork Recovery or point me to a thread that shows the steps to get it working? Thanks!!

Are you rooted ... if not root first ... then:
Go to Market,
Download Rom Manager
After ROM manger is installed, open Rom Manager
Choose install CWR
Follow instructions
Done

Automated Process?
Think some smart Dev will come up with an automated rooting or sd honeycomb loading method? Hate to screw up this sweet reader. Tried twice and keep getting hung up.
Piece of cake

There already is a honeycomb sd image that doesn't touch your reader. Same with froyo. Also its pretty easy to root. You download the img form the developer's forums for autonooter. Turn your nook off. plug in the sd card. plug in the usb cable and wait for it to reboot.

Thanks!!! I am rooted on 1.1 using autonooter 3.0. I ended up using Nookie Froyo which has ROM Manager as part of the image, but now I can load CWR on the nook if I choose. Thanks again.

Hello,
First time posting, so thanks for the great forum. Found lots of info, that usually take care of my questions, but not this time.
A bit of info before my questions:
I have a dual-boot setup, stock not rooted image on emmc and uSD with CM7 RC4. The CWR was installed unintentionally after I was playing with he ROM Manager. Thought that CWR would be installed in uSD but it got installed on emmc. After an update I am now on CWR 3.0.2.8. I only go into the stock B&N image if I remove my uSD card.
I would like to update to 1.2 (I do use the stock reader app, mostly for magazines) but as far as I understood from other threads, this is only possible if CWR is not installed.
1 - Is it only possible to use the official update to 1.2 if CWR is not installed?
2 - Is there any way that I can remove the CWR without having to erase and register my nook again? I'm out of the USA, so it may be tricky, or it may not work at all.
I did saw several ways of removing CWR and going back to stock, but I just want to remove CWR and not touch the stock image.
Thanks!
i believe there's a mod to the 1.2 update in the development section that allows you to load 1.2 stock via CWR.
I did the same thing as you! Can't get it off.
Try this thread here in the nc development section:
[UPDATE ZIP] Stock 1.2 update.zip flashable from CWM

Thanks for the info. I had already spotted it, but I was wondering about removing the CWR and using the official update as well as boot recovery. There is a mention in that thread "Assuming you haven't fooked up any paritioning by using the "dual-boot" stuff ...", which I am not sure if I didn't.
I also spotted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690 part2 "File to remove CWR and restore stock recovery (2):"
But I simple can't figure out if after removing CWR I have to do the 8 failed boots or if it simply removes CWR and the nook is back at default. Anybody knows?
Edit: Can I just use the boot.img from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919353 and adb?

you didnt, in fact, you dont really have dual boot, that is when you have both roms installed in your main memory, so there is a partition trick you need to do.
CWR is nice, keep it , i would go for than method with the CWR, but i'm waiting for the "autonootered" version
Thanks for the reply don_ernesto. I have been reading a lot these couple of days and now I understand what a true dual boot is (with the changes in partitions, etc).
I figured out two ways of getting 1.2 onboard.
1 - Use the image for CWR
2 - Use the image from point 3 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690 to remove CWR and install 1.2 as if it was an untouched nook!
But first I'll just back up all of my nook for good measure!
Hi,
I updated my A500 from 3.1 stock to Taboonay 2.0 HC 3.2. For some reason I decided to revert back to HC 3.1 Stock but in trying to do so I messed up and lost both CWM and Root Access. Now I can still boot into Taboonay 2.0 HC3.2 but I cannot access CWM and I cannot flash any other ROM as I do not have Root Access. Also due to lack of Root Access I cannot install CWM.
Can someone please help me regain control of my device??? Please!!!

Iconiaroot is for 3.1,Quick answer:Acer Recovery Installer: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.interphaze.AcerRecoveryInstaller&feature=search_result
Acer recovery installer also requires a rooted device to perform all of its functions including installing recovery.
D/load and flash a full rom some of them will work thru reg Acer recovery for your SD card.

Acer recovery needs "root" access....superuser can be seen in the list of apps but it is denying permission to all apps despite setting "allow" to all apps on default!
What to do?
Tried iconia root....."denied root access"
Tried Acer recovery....."needs root access"
CMW can't be booted into as somehow it is not there!
Tried factory data reset......no change in problem!

Erica's Cure Worked for me!!!
Ok after taking advice from Erica, I downloaded the official full ROM package from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159443 and extracted the update.zip from it and placed it in the root of my external sd card. Switched off the A500 and rebooted it pressing Vol (down) & Power button till white text appeared in top left corner of the screen. A500 then started updating and successfully completed the full ROM install. On completing A500 automatically rebooted and all is good now. I am now on Stock A500 ROM HC3.1. I have not rooted or installed Acer Recovery app yet. I am going to wait for the official HC 3.2 from Acer Malaysia which I think is due on 10th September.
Thank you everyone on this amazing forum for helping fix this issue for me. Hope this solution also works for others having similar issues.
Additional steps to the last procedure
Ok... Last procedure though restored my A500 to Stock HC3.1 but was not allowing the OTA updates. So I copied update.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878. (you must ensure that you download the ROM that is specifically for your device region... mine is Thailand).
I repeated the same procedure as I did before (see last post). After installation completed, and device rebooted. I checked for new updates (from settings menu / About Tablet / Updates). Voila!!! new updates were detected and are downloading now. These are not HC3.2 updates but HC3.1 update patches.
Cheers!

Just read there is a new update for stock Nooks... basically gives more comic-reading options.
I currently have a rooted Nook color and don't really see any real reason to want the latest Nook update, but did want to ask: What would happen if i did update? Would I need to root again afterwards?
I know there's guides on previous versions of Nook, but was wondering if anyone had experience yet w/ the latest update.
I just downloaded it to look at it. It is a complete reflash of your ROM. So my guess is it will undo root. And this from B&N:
The NOOK Color Ver1.4.3 update contains new features and enhancements, including:
• Zoom view in comics and graphic novels
• 2-Page mode in landscape for viewing PagePerfect™ and PDF documents
• Other minor system enhancements

Thanks for the reply, very helpful!
Mine just automatically updated to 1.4.3. When I boot up it asks if I want to go to the normal home or the rooted home. I can go to the rooted home and my apps are there but I can't launch Google Play. Also, if I select the N button and then Home it just goes back to the default Nook home and I can't switch back to the rooted home. I have to restart the Nook to get back.
I'm going to try nooting it again to see if that corrects the issue.

I'm in the same state. One of my two Nook Colors auto-updated to 1.4.3 and I'm having the exact same symptoms. The other hasn't yet updated and still works fine. Please share your results
Update:
I used clockworkmod 3.2.0.1 and manualnooter 5.02.19. I reinstalled manualnooter without wiping the Nook and I am back in business on both of them
"back in business on both of them"
Including the google app marketplace? Super cool - the market (and gapps in general) require some things to be in /system to hook into to handshake with the Google servers.
I threw together a super minimal "install su and busybox" rooting tool that lets all of my apps run as I prefer but doesn't include the Market. Nice to know I'll be able to get the Market back as soon as I like.

This is why you're supposed to disable OTA updates when you Root a Device. Otherwise your device will update without your permission or foreknowledge. Usually it'll reset everything in System so you'll loose things like Root and Gapps.
Personally I just run CM9 off my 16gb class 10 SDcard. No OTAs to worry about and I get pure Android, all without modifying any of the Nook's Internal Memory.

I tried this and I cannot access the market. I had a stock unrooted 1.4.2 and then rooted using mn 5.02.19 on CWM 3.2.0.1
My device is rooted but the Market will not download apps. I have followed the guides to clearing the Vending.apk cache and Google Framework Services here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494901 but Market is not updating and I cannot install apps.
Even after flashing the two files here: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com...tock/m-p/1356004/message-uid/1356004#U1356004 and then re-flashing MN 5.02.19 I just have root.
Currently I have the standard/stock build.prop. I can push files to /system/app and /data/app but that is getting old. And so far no combination of checking or unchecking the NookTools toolbox is letting me install apps via Market.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have downloaded the update twice from B&N and copied it to the sd card root. Keep getting a message when I try to install the update, using your instructions, that it can't open the archive (bad).
I am trying your method because I can't get the Nook to update normally. I even followed the default NookColor reset instructions then tried to install the update. The update would never even start. Currently sitting at 1.3.0. So I decided to try this CW mod route. More problems...
This update process is getting so frustrating...... I must assume at this point that the archive is bad again. Tried using both IE and Firefox (heard FF causes problems). The CW boot process worked fine so that's not it.
Not sure what more I can do.

You can't edit the zip with archive software. You must entirely extract it, then edit the files, then rezip and re-sign the zip.
To save you the effort, I made a version of 1.4.3 that is CWM flashable and posted it. See my tips thread linked in my signature. See item A12.

Not needed.
My system started as a 1.3 NC, that I successfully rooted using nooter, but a year ago last Oct ( 2011 ) and OTA update removed my rooting. After a couple weeks, someone posted a "fix" that restored my root access, but also bocked the OTA update.
A few weeks ago, I screwed up and mistakenly tried to install a Android Market update, and it BROKE my system. So I desided that this was a great time to update the NC to it's current OS level ( 1.4.3 ) and tried to follow the instructions on restoring the NC to "factory" fresh state... but thats where it started to go wrong!
Using the clockwork recovery sdcard I used to root the system, it FAILED to erace / format the Data area, probubly because I "fixed" it when I had the problem over a year ago with the OTA update.
Now no matter who's instructions I follow, I can't get that data section deleted so I can restore the system,
What I want to do restore/update the NC to current level, and THEN to reroot.
Currenly, the ONLY way I can use the NC is with the newest N2A image on a sdcard, but there is a huge speed penalty that way!
Can ANYONE help!
Thanks in Advance!
Tom

Did as suggested, created the card ( CWM-6.0.1.2-bootable_SD ) and loaded the "nookcolor_1_4_3_signed.zip" onto it.
Was successful in formatting the system , boot and cashe AND the Data directory! Restarted CWM and was able to run the 1.4.3 zip completely. Rebooted from CWM menu after removing the SD card from the NC....
...but now the NC hangs at the "N" screen.
So, what did I do wrong? What next?

Hi leapinlar and tomsheeley,
Due to 10 posts rule I cannot reply to eyeballer's thread (I'll send him a pm instead). tomsheeley might try TWRP 2.3.1.0 after he root his NC as more friendly. Today I tried to upgrade to TWRP 2.4.1.0 available in #129 post. The problem I had with fixing permissions was solved by deleting the folder emmc/TWRP using a root explorer (I use Root Browser Lite free from market).
The problem is common I think with SGS+ and I found it by watching this thread.
Thanks and sorry for posting here but watching that you are posting in fattire's thread and I think my feedback might helps.
My Nook Color was running the stock rooted 1.4.2 and tonight I decided to install CWM from Rom Manager and backup the rom so I could install CM10. The install of CWM through Rom Manager went well but when I did the backup it rebooted and now I get a black screen after the Read Forever screen.
I've tried the 8 interrupted boots which has worked for me in the past but that doesn't seem to work. I've also tried t use a bootable sd card - uNooter, per the CM10 wiki instructions for Nook Color here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_encore
I know it's pretty hard to brick this thing, but did this actually do it? Any suggestions?

I was able to get it back to stock with A 15/A 10 of this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25354258#post25354258
Just follow the directions and then once it's re-flashed I did a reset by holding the n and pressing power. It'll boot back into stock.
Now that I was able to get it back, I just need to find proper directions for installing CM10.
