How is the camera on this thing? Does it click good pics in low light too? and what about good bright day light? and the video recording too??
rate them all for me please
0-10, 10 being outstanding and 1 being s**t
Day light = 7
Indoor = 4
Low light = 1
I'm comparing it to my blackberry 9780 which also sports a 5mp camera. The blackberry camera is excellent.
The Streak is pretty disappointing everywhere except outdoors.

No question the desire HD camera blows this one away. It's sad how a 5MP camera can be so crappy.

Dj steve should port a new camera.

Oh how i dream of a new camera port. If i put vig on steady shot ( which can take forever to take the pic ) the results are great. So i know it has potential to be a good camera

Well i am using dell streak and one thing that is not good in it's camera is that it sharpens the pictures more than necessary...
Best thing contrast 0-(2) exposures 0-(2) can take awesome pictures in daylight...in can take picture from the distance of 3-5cm...for even a camera phone like Lumia 920 and nokia 808 distance should be 8-10cm....so there are some let downs but it's pretty awesome too.
so, from my point of veiw.

Low Light: Normal 5, Macro 7.7.

I installed a third party app which improved the situation a little.
My main problem is the camera losing focus when using the flash light.

The SEProductBlog have just released a new video demoing the Xperia's camera abilities. It looks very good, the speed of taking photos is nice and the interface looks nice and clean. it is also worth nothing the video itself is shot on an Xperia Arc, and the quality is slick.

There is also a short description of the details in the video at their blog.
Looks amazing!
Im happily going to drop my HTC Legend with the latest CM rom for this, Im not even going to be worried about any future xda rom support, that camera app alone will make up for any loss in customization.
Very fast!

Camera is not that good
The sensor size is 1/3.2 (0.16cm^2) very very small
Nokia N8 is 1/1.8 (0.40cm^2)
So it is same tech as Cybershot but not as good
Better them most other camera phones but still not good enough for printing

Well, which size of prints are you aiming at? Judging from the pixels I'd say printing up to ~A4/Legal shouldn't be a real problem - if you need bigger printouts you should consider getting a decent DSLR
Just like in real life, size isn't everything.....
Camera
8 Megapixel is enough for printing - I just think with such small sensor size pictures won't be good enough for printing

In daylight it works well. The problem starts when you take pictures in hard conditions. The shutterspeed will increase and the pictures will be a bit blurry. Therefore i use my slr for pictures. I print a lot and i am a complete perfectionist about the quality of my pictures...

Of course the Nokia N8 camera is definitely better. Its whole assembly is the reason for its bulk. The Arc due to its thinness cannot fit that in.
I shot a picture using the front camera, just to see the quality. I'm pretty amazed by the quality (considering its me on the picture)! Could some of you share pictures from front camera too?
Anyone?
Yeah.. it's pretty good!
Are there any apps out there that let us use the camera as a pc webcam?
Pretty sure there is. I downloaded droidcam 3-2 but never tried it
You're right, the front camera is pretty good, but, I think it can be smoother, just 2mpx and no auto-focus, why it's so jerky ?!
I hardly think they're going to build an articulating auto-focus lens array into the top of your phone just for doing your hair.
lol, i knew before i got this phone that wouldn't stand the frame rate of the front cam (2mp front cam sucks as expect to me, but better than any other phone currently). Will always use back camera video chat (if app supports it).

Because the IncS has an AMOLED display, if I am not mistaken, thus the colors

Hey, I see what you are trying to say but you can't say it's a fair comparison if you don't take the same shot from both cameras...then we can really see the differences.
Your Jaipur-ish building picture honestly doesn't look great, even with the X10, it's too pixelated...my X10 takes much better shots than that in similar light.
to do a fair n honest comparin
the same pics has to b taken with both phones

Indeed it is!
If you are rooted, check Potatoman's awesome work on the camera : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104051
I personally use hyperX-'s version of SuperHighBit camera (1080p @ 30MBit ), and it just tops my Sony FHD camera now!
Also, the sound quality is way better with this mod!
Camera with GOOD light is really well. But if there is small light camera SUCKS. Better has Iphone 4S (in dark conditions).
As mentioned above in good light this camera excels in the video department I've had some excellent videos shot in nice bright conditions, in low light conditions you notice the difference as with most cameras.
But as a mobile device it's very good in bright light and the hacked versions are awesome as audio improves compared to stock.

I confirm the complete opposite. The quality is WAY better, namely in night settings. I've been filming Madrid in my trip, at night, and there was nearly no lag, and it was crisp all the time. I recorded at 720p @ 24MBit due to space issues (1080p @ 30MBit eats a LOT of memory).
I just bought a new camera to tote around mainly for my wife. I thought it was a pretty good camera, it's a fuji 14mp point and shoot. I've had one in the past which was pretty good.
Anyway, my point being my freaking camera on my note takes much better pictures than this camera does. I would think a dedicated camera would be the winner but Samsung did a good job here.
I've seen threads past complaining about the notes camera but mine takes great pics. Needless to sat wife still asks for the phone to take pics. That was a waste of money
From the big ole Note
Try comparing the two in conditions with poor lighting, particularly in any scenario that would require a flash or longer exposure.
When it comes to camera's, opposed to what alot of people think, the amount of megapixels you have isn't important at all. What's more important is the lens, and how big it is. The lighting, shutter time etc..
Just like knightnz said, the fuji would probably come out on top in "harder" to capture pictures.
Still I have to agree, the Note takes amazing pictures.
Yea I haven't tried the note much in low light or night pics so I'll have to check it out. I understand and have always read mp mean nothing so what is the point of these higher mp counts? I mean they are coming out with a friggin 41mp camera soon on a phone at that! Why the need for high mp if they don't affect quality?

It is just for marketing purpose.

It's not like the phone takes a 2GB 41 mp jpeg lol. It's a new type of technology that combines pixles in such a way that it creates a 5-8mp file with lossless 4x zoom and greatly reduced noise.
The *real* breakthrough is the size of the lense and the amount of light it lets in. I've seen some sample pictures and it has a mean DOF effect and almost no noise.
Back to the point. The notes camera is great and it is better than a few point and shoots that my friends have, I just wish there was image stabilisation but that's just software right?

Well, the best image stabilisation is actually hardware. It is a prism that moves based on a gyroscope to compensate for all camera movements. Effectively it keeps the physical focus point where it was and moves it slowly to where it now is, avoiding the quick shake caused by your movements. Software can only compensate slightly by moving the physical focus around in a similar way in a larger recorded image.
The best I have ever had is in my Sony HandyCam. It was the bees knees when I bought it many years ago. Full 1080p video with a superb and huge Carl Zeiss lens. Dark shots were great and better than most other cameras, and it even does a fair IR night mode. The videos are very stable as long as you do not do any large swings. The 10x optical zoom is also fantastic.
Now my Note stands in, but it will never replace the HC because of the poorer dark videos, lack of zoom, and the complete lack of stabilisation. Having said that, it is used a hell of a lot more as a camera and video cam, because it is always with me!

Is there anyway we can shut camera click sound ?
The camera is good enough.
But when you see your note camera taking better pictures than stand alone point and shoot snapper, you know you have crap point and shoot camera or the person taking photographs is not taking pictures properly.
Under good light conditions, these modern snappers will match the P&S sensor quality if you know what you are doing. Picture quality varies greatly by simple choice of settings by the person taking pictures on Note. Leave it at auto and you will not get the best results in tricky conditions. You also need steady hands to get good snaps from Note camera.
But overall, its good enough to be good casual snapper.
But if you start comparing Note against even older good compact cameras like Panasonic ZS7 (which is now outdated), its not even close. These point and shoot cameras will outperform Note under any condition. Leave alone more expensive and also cameras with newer better sensors available today.
The good thing about Note camera is that it takes more than decent pictures with relatively accurate colour reproduction unlike some other phone cameras.

There is a rather crappy digital zoom that happens when you press the volume button and swipe your finger across the slider that appears.. like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7abTRUO4WQ
(ignore the girl lol)
In other areas: I realise now that the stabilisation is hardware but you'd be SO suprised at how much software effects the video quality. I have 2 examples.
My old HD2 on windows mobile or android had TERRIBLE low light quality, frame rate dropped down to 9/10 fps, image noise was just unacceptable. -->
Updated to windows phone 7, and low light was quality is insane now. did not drop a single frame. The quality even went up to full 720p (which was not possible before)
I've even made some short movies with it because the low light was so good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZP68dAtn14 and the non "8mm style" shots in here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JQVeeZL4aQ
(sorry not trying to drop videos here but just so you get my point)
Second example is my transformer prime. Same thing. On Honeycomb terrible fps in low light and a whole heap of noise ---> ICS update and the camera was a different beast.
My point is, software is very important in mobile cameras. Once we get ICS, we can start complaining or praising properly
