I just noticed this but don't know when it started. The 4 touch buttons (home-search), will illuminate as soon as I unlock the phone but after a few arcs they go off and don't come on again until next unlock.
Can anyone verify this?

Oh, you are right. If I cover the proximity sensor with my finger it comes on. Reasonable enough.
Thanks

Hey guys
Long time Galaxy Nexus / Galaxy Note 2 user here.
One of my fave apps was the PGM because it allowed control of the phone without hitting the unlock button to unlock it.
I know the dev (who lives in Poland) hasnt gotten an N4 yet, so he hasnt been able to write the kernel tweak yet.
Anyody found any options?
I have been using the app Sleep Tweak. What it does is if you get a text it wakes the phone but doesn't turn on the screen. If you pick the phone up within X seconds after receiving a text the screen turns on. Same with if the phone times out by itself if you pick it up within X seconds it will turn the screen back on. Not the same I know but it lets me decide whether I want the screen to turn on for a text or something.

No answer for you, but a question..
Wouldn't something like PGM (Nexus) drain the battery? As it would require the screen to be "on" to detect any type of touch from the user?

The battery drain was very minimal on my gnex when i was using it, maybe 5% tops.

No,
Snce it's written into the kernel itself the device still deep sleeps and so the effects on battery are minimal.

I mean, that's not bad at all, but man I wish I had 2 N4's I could ship this guy, so we could finally get that.
No lie, it's the ONE app I NEED on a device

5%? No. It's way less than that. When I use it it feels like it has absolutely no impact on battery life because it's a kernel module.

I bought a Nexus4 a couple of weeks ago. I constantly got this issue, it will be stuck and not return to the normal screen even I keep pressing the power button. However, if the other side of the call hangs up quickly, it normally works fine. but if it is directed to a voice mail box, it will be stuck forever until I shutdown the phone.
Just wondering has anyone experienced the same issue ?
Have you put a screen protector on it?

It sounds like the proximity sensor on your phone is being blocked you might want to try not using your case and see if its make any difference

Turns out the screen protector is the evil.
Thanks a lot!
I have a backlight problem with my HTC EVO Shift. The backlight has stopped working consistently. I believe it has something to do with the cable in between the slider part. When my phone is completely shut, the backlight is not working. When my phone is completely open (keyboard exposed) the backlight is not working. when my phone is in the halfway position (keyboard partly exposed) the backlight illuminates the screen and I am able to use the phone. It is very difficult to continue to use the mobile device in the halfway point. I have another mobile device on the way but I will need to see the screen in order to get the rest of my data off, or at least make a nandroid backup and go from there.
If it is not the cable then can someone point me in the right direction. If it is the cable/screen could someone tell me where to get a replacement. I am capable of doing repairs. I would rather not if it is avoidable.
thank you xda community.
Re: Backlight Screen Problem
Main flex cable could be your issue. Grab the part from eBay

If you're using the xda app, just add "solved" in the subject line. You may need to scroll up to see it...

If you edit your first post, the best way is to just add "[SOLVED]" to the beginning of your thread title
To give thanks, from the app either tap on the persons post and then hit the thanks popup, or on the computer theres a Thanks button under their name
As the topic says, holding the power button doesn't work.
So I can't switch it on nor off.
Any ideas.?

what do you think? is the problem in hardware or in software?
if the problem in software, there are a lot of apps doing what you want (on off restart whatever) , and you can install one of them.

If the button itself is defective and you are not under warranty you may be able to find a replacement on ebay. I have seen various phones being parted out there and the button should come with a replacement rear cover. If it is the actual switch on the motherboard you have a different problem though. Have you removed the rear case to test that switch? It can be done with a torx t5 screwdriver, a couple of guitar picks and a half hour of patience.

it seems to me something went wrong with your rom.. try to reinstall it by N-cry toolkit.. and then install one of those apps which gives you no need to this button anymore. just like what I do.

Sometimes my knock on doesn't work. I end up tapping the screen 5-10 times to get it to come on. Anyone else having this issue?

Strangely enough, I found how hard I knock matters to whether it works our not. I had the same issue with knocking 5 - 6 times until I lightened my touch.
YMMV

On your second tap, hold it on the screen for a millisecond longer.
I just hold my screen and shake my phone and it turns on

What are you using for that?
I too have noticed hard taps ate a bit more unresponsive. Mines perfect with quick ready doubletap.

This actually helped. For months the Knock On feature worked smoothly, as did the Off feature. Suddenly it stopped working so well. I had to tap very precisely and slowly, even then it was hit or miss. Better now. Off isn't an issue because I use Nova launcher gesture with Screen Off. Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity of the proximity sensor?
