Just need a little direction here.. - Galaxy Tab General

Hi all,
Just got a Verizon SGT and after reading through the "bible" section, I am a little confused on where I should start and what method of rooting I should use.
I have rooted my droid and do have experience with that side of things. Just need a little help getting started with this Tab. My goal is to flash a recovery and then use ROM's etc..
Here are the specifics if they matter, of my Tab
Baseband: S:I800.0.3V.DJ11
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #3
Bulild #: SCH-I800.DJ11
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

Your can try using superoneclick to get root

Galaxy S 2.3.2 Rooting

I desperately need some help.
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (8gb). Here are some details about this phone:
Model Number: GT-I9000
Firmware Version: 2.3.2
Baseband Version: I9000XXJPK
Build Version: Gingerbread.XWJV1
The thing is, I want to root my phone and install custom ROMs and I have absolutely no idea how to do it. I've tried searching everywhere but I can't seem to find out how to do it. There is no information for 2.3.2!
Apparently, 2.3.2 is a beta version and I have no idea how my phone has Gingerbread.
To check whether my phone was already rooted or not, I installed Titanium Backup and it does not run because it needs "root privileges". So, my phone is not rooted.
Please can someone help me on what I need to do? I'm completely lost and desperately in need of help! A step-by-step guide would go a long way!
Thanking you in advance!
The easiest way to root is via super one click. You need to instal the same. You'll find the link in xda forums.

Yes, firstly you need to read the numerous guides already available in xda.
Secondly an excellent single source for firmwares, guides and pc tools is samfirmware.com
Thirdly, and only after you have done extensive research here you desperately need to update your firmware. You must have bought your phone second hand because 2.3.2 JV1 has never been officially released. It was the first leaked alpha release of gingerbread for SGS several months ago and is VERY experimental. An excellent source for current GB 2.3.3 JVH is Ramad's link here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011901
Best of luck...you've bought a cracking phone and the members here are very helpful (as long as you do your bit and thoroughly familiarise yourself with site content)
Thank you ever so much for the kind help!
I managed to find a website that had a step-by-step guide in very little words (but it was a complete guide) and that has helped me with my problems. I've updated to Android 2.3.3.
Yes, this community is great.
I was the same bit just read the development forums and figured it out

Unfortunately CF root doesn't work well with it but this method does: -
How to root and install busybox:
* Download Odin version of FuguRoot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1010141 (Remember to thank nikademus for his excellent work!)
* Download and extract the original and untouched Kernel:
XWJVH Kernel: Download (5.6 MB) (Double-Click to extract)
XWJVB Kernel: Download (5.6 MB) (Double-Click to extract)
XWJVA Kernel: Download (5.6 MB) (Double-Click to extract)
XXJVK Kernel: Download (5.6 MB) (Double-Click to extract)
* Flash zImage-root tar file as PDA with no pit and no re-partition, let the phone boot until it enters charging mode then disconnect the phone.
* Re-enter Download Mode
* Load the extracted original Kernel tar file as PDA only, no pit and no re-partition, connect the phone and flash the original Kernel.
* Done!
Enjoy your SGS.
Supercurio's kernel is excellent too. I rooted via fuguroot which worked fine, but have now flashed supercurio's.

It all sounds really helpful! I will try this very soon and I hope it works!
Thank you for your constructive input!

Hi guys, i just got my Galaxy Tab I/O Limited Edition 32GB Wifi only..
Model Number: GT-P7510
Android Version: 3.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3 [email protected] #1
Build Number: HMJ37.UEKG4.P7510UEKG4
how do i see if this is rooted or not?
Can i flash custom roms? sorry to ask, but im a newbie in this. seems confusing ...
Hi mate.
I'm new to all this myself.
First you need to root your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185
Then you are ready to flash a new rom. I used the task650&phantom rom and I'm going to use the pershoot kernel when I find out how to do it.
Here's the rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1284355
My advice is to just take your time, do a bit of research and follow the steps carefully. Oh and back up.
Off the top of my head you will need the following apps: RomManager, titanium back up and titanium back up pro.

A quick way to see if its rooted (doesn't always confirm if you've moved files and/or apps around) is to look at your apps list for "Superuser".
If its there and you didn't put it there, you're probably rooted.

Not to sound like a total jerk... But i recommend that you read and read ana read and watch many vidoes before you start flashing/rooting/modding/hacking/whatevering...you will thank me for this later when you DONT screw up your device... There are a few guides within this forum that are decent... Still not noob friendly like they should be but after some good reading i think you can get the hang of it...

[Q] Note 3, impossible to custom rom?

I must be terribly impatient or not understanding what I'm doing, probably both actually but I cannot for the life of me find a working method for loading a custom rom on my phone. Could someone PLEASE point me to a resource that will work for my phone? Info provided below:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Provider: Verizon wireless - USA
Quoted info from settings > About Phone:
Model number: SM-N900V
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: N900VVRUCNC4
Kernel version: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1 MON April 28 16:42:37 KST 2014
Build number: KOT49H.N900VVRUCNC4
Hardware version: N900V.07
Security software version: MDF v1.0 release 2
I have root access thanks to towelroot
I have supersu as well. Every guide I've found for different rooms has been busy. I've only tried safestrap methods because I know I can switch back to the stock rom slot and have a working phone again. Im weary of methods that wipe out the stock rom as I really don't want to end up with an unbootable brick.
Ive tried cyanogenmod, and a TouchWiz room who name I can't think of at them moment. Both roms simply booted to a black/blank screen.
I really like the simplicity of cyanogenmod and it is my preference but I'm open to others. Can anyone please advise me on my options please, I've about reached my words end here. Why must these companies make it so hard to make the devices we pay hundreds of dollars look/act/be the way WE want them to be as the now owning consumer?!?
Thank you for your time, help, and guidance, I have nothing but respect for all the developers in this community, wish I understood the system better so I could be of more help as well.

Do we need NC 2 and how would we install it?

I'm in a similar sitch. I have rooted my phone after the NC4 assault using towelroot. Note to those who plan to use it: there are some hijacks out there. Don't go to towelroot.net for example. I have downloaded a couple of safestrap apk files and have been reading up on how to install safestrap. Once installed, then what? I think I need to install the NC 2 kernel but how? What's a kernel anyway? How is flashing a kernel different from flashing a rom? How is an android kernel different from a linux kernel? I can't see a way to run linux commands anyway...
Hi guys! There's a ton of guides on the forums that answer your questions. If you need help you are best of posting the exact steps you took up to that point and at what point you are stuck. Wikipedia also has a ton of information on the basic computer science stuff (what's a kernel? etc...)
Good luck

The root methods you have listed are intended for older versions. The only functioning NC1 root method is towelroot. Please check the all things NC1 thread prior to posting. All info can be found there. The person above has given the link to towelroot. If you go to the galaxy s5 forums, you can get a tutorial on it, but it's pretty straightforward. Enjoy your rooted device.
Remember that the phone has a locked boot loader. So, the stock kernel and recovery cannot be replaced. The only working recovery is safestrap. There is also restrictions on the Roms that can be flashed.

Update to MM from rooted 4.4? Cant find a guide anywhere =/

Here is what I am currently running
The phone is currently rooted.
GM-G900V
Android Version: 4.4.4
Baseband version: G900VVRU1ANI2
Kernal Version: 3.4.0
Build Number: OptimalROM R12-6
I want to upgrade to MM and install this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-ressurrection-remix-mm-t3275340
I also want to upgrade my kernal.
When everything is said and done, I of course want to be rooted.
Now I cant seem to find answers anywhere. I love this site, but finding a helpful guide is painful. So many different version of threads. I found several threads where people were asking the same thing but there were no good answers. So I imagine this could help others too.
If someone could tell me exactly what I need to do to upgrade to MM and get this new ROM installed, I would be insanely grateful.

Hi skoad
You have a Verizon and, as so, you may first start by reading the below:
[GUIDE] Unlocking the Galaxys S5 Bootloader using DEV Bootloader [KK-MM]
As soon as you find yourself comfortable, you will need first update your Bootloader (mentioned above) and Modem partitions. To do so you should flash a Sammobile firmware using Odin.
These are the firmwares available for you but only the first one is Marshmallow and your aim.
You may follow these general instructions obviously regarding your device data.
The Kernel update will be done by the ROM you are focusing to install and it will be rooted already.
Let us know how it performed with Stock.
Cheers.
.
Thanks a ton. I am pretty busy this weekend but will be giving this a shot Monday and will report back. What youve provided seems very helpful and straightforward, just what I was hoping for!
